Birth Story

Wednesday, August 15th I went in for my 38 week checkup and I was nothing - zero percent effaced and zero percent dialated. So we set up my induction date for August 28th - my due date. I kept telling my husband that night that I think we should get everything in the car because I had a feeling something was going to happen sooner than later. Well Thursday, August 16th I went to work as usual - everything was packed in the car - his bag, my bag, and baby Elle's bag. I was at work and around 1:00 p.m. I got this tight feeling in my legs so I decided to get up and I did this squat and then I left my office to head down to the restroom - on my way there I felt this "pop" and then gush fill my panties a bit - not a whole lot of fluid but enough to notice. So I thought I had "peed" a little in my pants so I headed to the restroom and went "pee" - then I headed out to my car to get a pair of workout pants so that I could do my afternoon walk at work. On my way to the car I felt "gush" again and this time I knew something was going on - my pants were soaked and I told a lady out in the parking lot - " I think my water broke". She told me to go back to the bathroom and check there. I headed back to the restroom and this time the fluid was getting a pink tinge to it - so I knew this was it.

I went in and told my office "we are having a baby" - I called my husband and of course he didn't believe me - I had to have a coworker tell him that this was for real and was really it - hahaha. He picked me up and off to the hospital we went. I wasn't having any contractions so I drove - I HATE HIS DRIVING... We got there and they checked me to make sure it was amniotic fluid and it was - I was 80% effaced and 1.5 centimeters dialated - so they started the pitocin around 4:30 p.m. by 11:30 p.m. I was 4 centimeters and I had enough of my off the chart contractions coming every 1 1/2 minutes so I said "bring on the epidural'. That was nothing - it didn't hurt I felt this warm sensation and poof all the pain was gone. It was a weird feeling - legs were numb and heavy but I felt normal. Well, I felt relaxed and told my hubby to take a nap and then I relaxed to - by 2:30 a.m. they came in and checked me and I was 9 centimeters and fully effaced. I waited an hour till I was 10 centimeters and so by 3:30 a.m. I was ready to go but I had to wait to wake my poor doctor up to get there - it took about 45 minutes and then he arrived. I just love him!!! Well I pushed for 11 minutes and out she came. Thd doctor said "grab your baby" and I got to pull her out - it was absolutely miraculous. This beautiful little angel sent to us. Elle had a bowel movement on the way out and had injested some meconium so the nurses sucked it out and gave her apgar score and 8 because of this. She was fine though and wailing like a banche. It was so awesome.

I tried the breast feeding and it I made it through the hospital stay but it was taking a toll on me and Elle so now we are bottle feeding and it is going great. I love my little girl and I can't believe how much love you can have for someone so small. Our family is perfect and my husband has taken to fatherhood like a champ and I love to see that he has fallen in love with another girl - our little Elle Rose.

Well, hang in there. I definitely know how you feel. I was so miserable at the end. I didn't even go out of the house. I heard a myth about this salad (at a restaurant by my house)that puts you into labor. I ate it and went in to labor 12 hours later! Maybe there is something like that by you? Try anything LOL. You look so pretty in your baby shower picture, by the way :)

kimmi - Friday, 10 Aug
You're getting so close! Congrats!

Hi Mel! It could be any day now. I can't imagine being pregnant this late in the Summer. You poor girl. Hopefully you will go early. Are you dilated yet? Thanks for the comment about Jackson. I think he's pretty cute too ;)

Hey there, I just couldn't help but let you know I love the name you picked out for your baby girl, Elle or Ellie. Me and my husband are naming our baby girl Ellie Grace. Lots of people I tell that too say those names are coming back in style!!

Daisybooboo - Monday, 6 Aug
Good luck! Not long now. Hope it all goes smoothly! Enjoy your baby girl. Daisy

Good so im not the only one that hasnt lost the plug. I know it does seem like things are going pretty slow but then we will soon have our babies with us. Cant wait! Your pretty lucky to not have the BH, who ever said they're 'painless' must have been lying! But have a good weekend and keep me posted =)

Hey, this is Jessica.. You guessed close! Im 19 weeks this sun. we dont know what the sex is yet, but we are finding out here on the 27th.

jovi - Thursday, 2 Aug
Hey there well seems like were in the same boat here. I was like 'HUH? Im not dialated at all and still thick?' But the walking has been good. My BH come on strong and then they stop as soon as i rest. It does get frustrating when ppl are progrssing in that 'dialation' direction and your not. My mom was telling that hopefully I will be one of those ppl that as soon as they start dialating, they go into labor. Have you lost your plug? I havent so I was wondering if i ws one of the few that havent. I will keep you posted on what the dr. says. Keep me posted too and have a good day!

I know, I keep reading others birth story and how some of the had their babies 2 or even 3 weeks early and I'm sitting here just thinking...knowing Leah she is going to take her sweet little time. I've been doing a lot of walking but I don't know if that will make her come eariler or not. Although my dr. did tell me if I've already started dilating by the first part of August she will induce labor on the 20th or 21st but I want my little girl to come before then and plus I don't want to be induce.:(

OMG, I hope they don't wait to long to come. I hope both of them come at least a week or two early. How have you been feeling these last few weeks? I'm so tired of being pregnant, I'm ready to get her out of here, everything seems to ache and hurt alll the time. I don't care if she keep me up all night, I'm ready for this to be over..LOL! I was trying to pronounce your little one's name is it Ell-lee? I love it, though!

LitaaB - Friday, 20 Jul
Congratulations!! I see we have the same due date and we're both expecting our first little girls...YAY!

jill - Thursday, 19 Jul
Thanks Mel! He's getting bigger and bigger. You'll be back to your old self soon! I love the name Elle, by the way. I'm sure I've told you that before. Motherhood is good. It was stressful in the beginning, but it's getting easier. I think I've finally got the hang of it :)
