My name is Melissa and my husband and I have been married since November 2004. When we decided to start trying to have a baby we never expected to face the obstacles that were thrown our way. Finally, after three years of trying to conceive that included two miscarriages, surgery and finally the help of fertility doctors we are excited to be expecting our first child together in October. This is our second marriage and I have a wonderful step-daughter who is 19 years old. We feel so blessed to be expanding our family and can't wait to meet the newest addition.

Went to the doctor yesterday and got to hear the sweet sound of the baby's heartbeat. It's always so reassuring to hear it. Heartbeat sounded great and was 143. Also had blood drawn for AFP testing. Hoping that everythign will come back normal. My husband and I go on Thursday, May 15th for our anatomy scan and hopefully our little will cooperate and allow us to see what we are having. We are both so excited! It's been 6 weeks since I have seen the baby on ultrasound. I am so curious to see how much he/she has grown and just to have the reassurance of seeing the baby move all around. I feel little flutters from time to time but no real kicks or heavy movement yet. Doctor says this is perfectly normal at this stage of the pregnancy. Overall, it was a great visit and now I just have one more day to wait to see my precious little one. Just two weeks to go and we are officially at the half way point. I can't wait to meet this precious little person growing inside me.

We had our anatomy scan today and when the tech first started the scan, the baby was sleeping. Oh, how very cute! Once she stirred the baby awake and after a lot of moving around we were finally able to see that we are having a little boy! We are so excited. We got to see him yawning and playing with his hands. I could not believe how big he got in just a few short weeks. Doctor said everything looks great but they could not see the bottom of his spine so we have to go back in two weeks for another scan. They want to make sure there are no signs of spina bifida.
Due to previous fibroid surgery, we also found out today that we will have to deliver via C-Section. They do not want me to go into active labor and take the chance that my uterus could rupture. This is perfectly fine with me. It took us so long to get to this point that we will do whatever is necessary to ensure a safe delivery of our precious little miracle. The best part is we will meet our beautiful baby boy two earlier than planned.

Went for our ultrasound today and baby boy was sitting on his butt. Made it very difficult to see the bottom of his spine again. We tried everything to make him move but he looked really comfortable and didn't really want to cooperate. Doctor reviewed the pictures but wasn't happy that he couldn't see his spine so we had to go back on the ultrasound machine again so he could take a look. Finally we were able to see that his spine looks just fine and everything is perfect. Doctor estimated him in the 80th percentile and indicated that he is a little larger than most babies right now at this stage of the pregnancy. Looks like we are going to have a big boy! So exciting to see him moving all around. He was waving and kicking his legs back and forth. AFP results were 2.89 which are slightly elevated but ultrasound looked normal. They are going to monitor the baby on ultrasound every 4 weeks just to make sure he is growing and everything continues to look normal.
Within the last few days I am finally starting to feel real movement. I have felt bubbles and flutters for a few weeks but not any real kicks or movement. The first time I felt the baby move from one side of my stomach to the other I gasped. It was the weirdest but best feeling ever! He likes to hang out on my right side and that is where I feel most of his kicks and rolls. It's so reasurring to feel him moving around.

I have really started to feel the baby moving around. He has developed sleep patterns and is most active first thing in the morning after breakfast and late a night before I go to bed. I have been able to feel him kick on the outside of my belly now. Of course, everytime someone else tries to feel it he immediately stops! He definately does not like when I have a full bladder. He makes sure that he kicks it again and again until I can't take it anymore and have to go and empty it. What a little stinker! Our next regular doctor appointment is scheduled for June 10th. We will see how much weight we have gained since our last appointment. I feel quite heavy lately. Overall, the weight has been gain has been really good.

We have an appointment today for a follow-up ultrasound. I am so excited to see how much my little boy has grown over the past few weeks. They want to make sure he is growing properly and gaining the necessary weight. I feel him moving inside me everyday and can't wait until I meet him for the first time. I will update again next week with results.

Well, it's been such a long time since I have updated my page. Hmm....to sum up the last few weeks. I failed both my 1 hour and 3 hour glucose test! I was really shocked to say the least. So, I have to monitor my sugar levels 4x per day and send the results to the doctor once a week. Right now I just have to watch my diet to keep my levels in the normal range. The baby is doing great and he is growing right on target. At our appointment last week, he weighed approx. 3lbs 7oz and the doctor's were very pleased with his progress. Because of the diabetes, I will have an ultrasound every 4 weeks to make sure he is not growing too big. I am not that worried about it because I am already scheduled for a C-section. Because of the surgery that I had last year on my uterus, my doctors do not want me to go into labor or have my uterus contract. Thereofore, they will deliver Jacob at 38 weeks (October 3rd). I am excited that I know my actual delivery date! I just hope things continue to progress normally and he doesn't decide to come early resulting in an emergency C-section. He moves continually now.....and finally moved out of the breech position. He is not a big kicker but prefers to move and roll around from side to side. My stomach looks like there are waves going across it.
We had a 3-D ultrasound done at the end of July for my husband's birthday. What an amazing experience. I would recommend it to anyone....Jacob was very active and didn't really want to cooperate. He has his leg up and across his head and face. It was hard to believe that a baby can be that flexible. One shot has his foot in front of his eye where it appears that he is punching himself. So Cute!! Overall, the pictures were all fairly good but we were not able to get a complete frontal face shot. He looks like his dad and has my chubby cheeks and a dimple in his chin. I can't wait to meet him and compare it to the ultrasound shots. I will post pictures soon.
We are now coming down to the wire and I see my OB every two weeks now. It's actually starting to set in that Jacob will be here in just 7 more weeks. Very exciting but scary! We had our baby shower last weekend and it was beautiful. We received so many wonderful things for him. The nursery is complete and now I am just spending time trying to organize everything and wash all of his towels, blankets and clothes. The nursery came out sooooo cute! Now we just need Jacob to make it complete.

Yesterday was the beginning of seeing the doctor every two weeks. We had our regular OB appt and all went well. Overall, the appointment was pretty rountine and I only spend about 10 minutes with the doctor. I have not gained any weight from two weeks ago which I found hard to believe. Not that I am complaining!! I was measuring exactly at 32 weeks. Jacob's heartbeat was very strong and he was moving all over the place. The doctor was pleased with my sugar levels as well. Next appointment is in two weeks for the same routine. Also, have an appointment on 9/3 for the next ultrasound to check his growth and weight. It will be fun to see Jake and see how much he has grown. Until then, I am just counting down the weeks until maternity leave......4 more to go. It's getting more difficult to wake up in the morning and drag myself into the city for work. My feet are swollen and my back hurts more each day. AHHHH.....what we must endure to have a baby. But he will be so worth the pain!

Well, tomorrow we have our 34 week ultrasound and our regular two week OBGYN visit. I believe this is the last bi-weekly OBGYN appointment and we will now start on weekly visits. It's getting much more difficult to come to work everyday. My last day of work is September 26th, one week before my delivery date of October 3rd. It's going to be difficult working right up until the end but I would rather have the time off after Jacob arrives. I don't plan to return to work until the first week of January. I have not been very good this past weekend with tracking my sugar levels. I know that the doctors will not be too happy with me and who can blame them! I just got lazy....Now it's time to get back on track and make sure I am doing everything right to get through these next 4 weeks. My husband and I are getting so excited and we know that Jake's arrival is right around the corner. We keep trying to envision what/who he will look like and they type of baby he will be. I can't wait to see his precious little face and tell him I love him and I am so happy that he is finally here.

Well last night we had two dr. appointments. First I had my regular two week check up with my OBGYN. Jacob's hearbeat was nice and strong and he was moving all over the place. I gained four pounds in two weeks but the doctor said that was good. Weight to date was only 14 lbs, so I can't really be upset over 4 more. Next appt. was for an ultrasound and meeting with the high risk doctors. Growth scan went really well; although Jake was not too happy with the ultrasound tech. He kept kicking and punching the wand and trying to turn away from it. He is really quite strong. His weight right now is estimated at 5 lbs. 13 oz and he is in the 77th percentile! They said he has lots and lots of hair and looks great. It does not appear that the diabetes are effecting him in any way and my fluid levels are good. I have been officially released from my high risk doctors and will finish the remainder of my pregnancy with my regular OBGYN. YEAH!!
