Hi everyone and congrats to all of you mommies-to-be! I'm Veronica and I've been married to my husband Stan since October 7, 2006. We live in Indiana where we both grew up. Although Stan is 13 years older than me. He does Marketing for a living and I work in Payroll. This is our first baby so we are so excited but also nervous. Neither one of us know anything about babies so this should be an adventure. We normally spend our time riding motorcycles and hanging out with friends who's children are almost grown. This will definitely be a big change for us. I hope we can keep our sanity. :) Fortunately a couple we are very good friends with just had a baby in September so we are already learning a lot from them.
I wish you all the best of luck and hope we can all learn a lot from each other.

January 28, 2008

Well, I'm 31 weeks and I can safely say I'm feeling the pains of pregnancy. My freaking stomach is so sensitive. It's almost like I'm stretching so fast my skin can't keep up. It just hurts and aches with every move. Even clothes hurt sometimes. Thankfully no stretch marks have arrived yet. Also, my boy keeps punching my round ligament and it just feels like a knife is stabbing my side. I just can't seem to get relief from the pain and discomfort these past few days. I guess maybe this is just my body's way of getting me used to pain gradually. Ugh...

February 13, 2008

So we had our second birthing class tonight. This was the first one my husband went to. I hate to admit this but I think he might drive me crazy during labor. He's just not very attentive. And he was so figity in the class. He has to be out of town for the next two classes so my mom will go with me. As much as I want my husband to be my "coach" It's looking like my mom will most likely be more helpful. It's just not in the poor man's nature to deal well with these things. It's a little disappointing because I would love for him to be all about it. But I also know back when I was born, men were hardly involved at all.

On a cheery note, my showers are just around the corner. One on the 23rd and one on the 1st of March. I have to admit, I've been peeking at my registries! I can't wait! Next Dr. appt is Friday.

February 19, 2008

Alright, I'm going to use this page to vent my a$$ off. This must be my week to ride the emotional rollercoaster. My husband is not a sympathetic person at all and treats me as if I'm just as fit as I was before I was pregnant. Not once has he thought to help me more around the house or with grocery shopping or anything for that matter. He just left for 3 days and didn't change the bottle on the watercooler after I asked him at least 3 times to do it before he left. Now I have to go get some bottled water. I did laundry all weekend and he never once offered to carry the baskets up or down the stairs for me. I asked him if he could clean up after dinner last night since I was still doing laundry and paying bills and he just completely ignored that I even asked him. I've asked him to come with me when I do the grocery shopping because now days it wears me out. But no, he won't go with me and doesn't help carry them in when I get home. I don't think he's being this way on purpose, I really think he's just freaking clueless. I just want to knock some sense into him. I hope the baby takes a big crap on his laptop and throws up on his remote when he gets here. I know I sound awful but I'm just at that point today where nothing seems to be going right. Can't sleep, can't poop, insurance issues, dogs are on my nerves, sick of working, housekeeper quite with no notice and my husband is a slob, snow is moving in tonight and heartburn now attacks me nightly. AGGGHHH! Lord, please let this mood pass QUICK!

February 25, 2008

Thank goodness my terrible mood has passed. I'm just full of excitement these days. I've had my first shower with one more to go this Saturday. So strange seeing all of the baby items in my house. At times it seems like the time is going fast then at other times it seems like it's taking so long for him to get here. I'm just really excited to meet my baby boy. His movements are so pronounced now. I do have moments where I fear something will be wrong with him. Things like Downs Syndrome or various other things. I have no reason to be fearful but it is in the back of my mind at times.
Sleeping has become a chore these days which makes for a miserable day at work. And eating is no longer fun since I get so full so quickly and burp up everything for an hour afterward. Other than that I don't really have any major issues thank goodness. Just some common aches and pains. All in all I have to say I have enjoyed my pregnancy. I feel so blessed that things have gone so well. So many people, even close friends of mine, have had so much trouble and heartache with pregnancy. We are truly blessed. Just five weeks to go now. I hope they are as wonderful as the past weeks.

Hey, I'm so glad that you met with your doula today and that she is a great one! Doesn't it give you like this sense of relief or something? I haven't met a mean or grumpy doula yet. They are a certain breed. I really enjoy going to acupuncture too. I've gone for many years and it is very relaxing. My acupuncturist is also a midwife, but not my midwife. I expect to go to her each week and the days leading up to my due date, but I don't know if she would come to the hospital for a treatment since she works for a different hospital. I might ask her though. Yes, thank goodness the back is improving and I didn't have to take too much of the medication to get some relief. Hopefully tonight and tomorrow night will be all. And so unusual for an FAA guy to do something like that. Very pleasant surprise. Have fun at your baby shower!

mommyinthesky - Thursday, 21 Feb
Hi, Well, it's too bad the doula didn't make it, but I'm glad you rescheduled. My husband is excited about having one too after seeing how it all works. He's good at calming me to a point, but it will be helpful to have someone take the pressure off of him too. I do get a lot of time off from work, just not paid. We get 4 months maternity leave from the time the baby is born. We get about 2 months off before the baby, I've been off since the beginning of January and I'll get some maternity disability insurance money that flight attendants can get, but it stops 8 weeks after the baby is born. Once our 4 months unpaid maternity leave is up, we then get 3 months of parental leave if we are breastfeeding. I don't think we can afford all of that time, so I will go back for a recurrent training day the last week in August and then will start flying again in September, but I have vacation then, so I'll only have to work 2 trips that month. Depending on how we are financially by that time, I am hoping to give away 1-2 trips per month so I can be home longer with the baby. So we get time, just no money and I'll lose medical insurance at the end of May.

Hi, How did it go with meeting the doula? We are going to have one too and I'm very happy about it. We're using the hospital doula program, so it is $250, but the going rate here is $600-800. Our city has the highest number of doulas and midwives per capita in the country. I know several doulas and they all seem so nice. Our hospital birthing class was taught by a doula too. I'm sure yours will be great as well. I wish you didn't have to work right now. I worked up until last month and now I don't know how I did it. I'm so tired as it is and all I'm doing is staying home and running errands and that wears me out, so I feel for you!

smurfmv - Wednesday, 20 Feb
I love that site. Most of the stuff is military stuff but you can send them any pictures and anything you want any of their items to say and they will make it custom for you and the pillow only cost me $19.99! It didnt cost anything to customize it. My husband loves the pillow though! I finally go to the doctor on Thursday for me strep B cultures. I havent been in 5 weeks! Thats what they wanted is for me to come in 5 weeks! I think thats nuts but they said I will start going every week now.

mommyinthesky - Tuesday, 19 Feb
Hi, Yes, you have to be on antibiotics during labor and for so many hours before the baby is born or else the baby could get meningitis of the brain. They also already know that I will have to be in the hospital a few extra days to monitor the baby. Once you're a carrier, you're always a carrier, but it isn't always present. So at 3 months it was present in my system, so they gave the antibiotics then and each month they check to see if it's present. It hasn't been, but they already know I carry it.

Laurabutterfly81 - Tuesday, 19 Feb
Yeah, I think mine just caught up finally. I hate stupid glitches like that because I have no idea how to fix it if I wanted to. Cool site by the way. Take care.

lil-ole-me - Monday, 18 Feb
Ha ha! I read your comment - and I'm with you! I was so looking forward to having some boobs for a change! But really no luck yet... It must be when we start breastfeeding that they really get nice and big... :)

If you go to this site (you might have to copy the link and try and paste it into your browser) you can see what I had made for the hubby for valentines day. He just got it today and he said he was so excited and loved it so I was glad to hear that! The web site (if you cant put the following link in your browser) is www.cafepress.com/silent ranksshop. If you have to just go to the website because you cant use the link I gave, just go to that sight, when you get there click the drop down menu that shows a list of products. Under the housewares category you should see throw pillow. Ours is on the third page I think of throw pillows and it will say 'for Kara throw pillow'. Tell me what you think! http://www.cafepress.com/silentranksshop.221355176

Your nursery is adorable. It's the same colors as mine just a different theme. I love the airplane light, that's so cute. Good Luck!

smurfmv - Saturday, 16 Feb
Well, my husband payed almost $100 for the flowers and since they wouldnt be here on our anniv. I just called 1800flowers and told them to refund the money. I am going to set it aside so my husband can do some shopping for the baby on his leave. He is really upset that he hasnt been able to pick out much for the baby. I thought he would like to go on a little shopping spree of his own!

smurfmv - Friday, 15 Feb
Thank you so much for thinking of me today though. It made me feel a little better! I hope your day was much better than mine!

smurfmv - Friday, 15 Feb
It has been such an awful day. My husband was so excited because today is our wedding anniversary and he ordered me flowers on Jan. 24 and was having them delivered today and they didnt come. This was our first anniversary out of 3 that we werent together and I was just so disappointed because he was so sweet to do that for me and they didnt even come.It was such a lonely day. I really hope you had a better Valentines day!

I've been working on the bag more this week too. I packed a lot when I had contractions and then stopped. I'm almost finished packing my bag now though. Mostly I still need to put in the electronic stuff: camera and portable DVD player, a few other things I'm dragging my feet on. I made a list of songs I want to listen to and my husband is putting them on a CD. I don't want to bring my IPod. I am always running around last minute packing before my trips. Every single week. So this time I won't have it. I got doubles of many toiletries and it's already done. I made a list of things that will be packed at the last minute and made a copy for my husband in case I'm elsewhere when it's time to go to the hospital.

I like the idea of having the name and then the airplanes flying through. We'd planned to have the biplane carrying a banner with the name. I'm gonna run that by my husband. How cute a little Harley bear, I'm surprised you guys didn't choose motorcycles then. I guess it would be hard to find a motorcyle light fixture. Ours isn't all airplanes either. A lot of globes and travel around the world ABC kinds of things as well as a vintage It's A Small World poster from Disneyland. Anyway, there's still a lot to be done before the baby arrives!

mommyinthesky - Thursday, 14 Feb
Hi, Yes, my husband finally got our scanner working and he helped me out with the pictures. I found the airplane shelves in a picture from the internet and brought it to my dad. He changed the dimensions a bit because the wings were kind of short and I wanted them long enough to hold a Build A Bear dressed in a pilot outfit. I also have a puppy and a monkey that I want on the shelves and ordered some small doll suitcases that I put travel stickers on. They look so cute holding their suitcases! Yesterday my dad put the shalac (not sure how to spell that) on the shelves to make them shiny. They should be dry by today and we will hang them up over the weekend. I'll put up some pictures then. My sister also made an airplane mobile and I got another one from Restoration Hardware that has some older model planes flying around a globe. My husband wants to paint a biplane on the other wall, but he's just in the drawing stage with that. What kinds of airplane things are you guys doing with the nursery? I saw your light fixture and wanted one like it awhile back. I saw it at Lowe's or Home Depot a long time ago, but they didn't have it anymore. I wonder if they have it online?

theresaanne - Friday, 8 Feb
My husband thinks it should be a nonrelative too although I don't think it is a rule. Although my mother thinks it should be a relative because 'they will always be your family' i'm annoyed that my mother is already 'campainging' for my sister and brother. It irritates me to no extent but at the same time, it usually isn't worth the fight with her because she holds a grudge....It is something I really wish I didn't have to deal with - but my mother will probably win!

kcard82 - Thursday, 7 Feb
My DH and I gave up ice cream for Lent, too! I really won't miss it that much, but I know he will. He fiends for it every night after dinner.

Hi, i read your post about packing your hospital bags, i think they (husbands) are pretty much all in denial. i cant wait to see how mine acts when i have to even go to the hospital! priceless.

stephandisaac - Tuesday, 29 Jan
I did a search online. I found a train light just like yours, but it was a little out of my price range...269.00
WOW Cute though :)

stephandisaac - Tuesday, 29 Jan
I just noticed the plane light...that is the coolest light I've ever seen. Where did you find something like that ? Too bad it isn't a train...that's what my son's room is going to be.

smurfmv - Tuesday, 29 Jan
Sorry, that last question was stupid, I just saw the pictures from your 3d/4d ultrasound. Im just so amazed how well you can see our babies!
