My
water broke at 1:10 am on Saturday, October 27, 2007. My husband and I
went to the internet and looked up what happens when your water breaks
and it said that some women hear a pop followed by a gush of water,
followed by a trickle of water and finally feeling the need to push or
have a bowel movement. It was like a checklist for exactly what
happened to me. So, after that bit of research to determine if what
actually happened was my water breaking I took a shower, my husband
packed my bag (I was almost three weeks early... pack your bags now
ladies) and then my husband and I went to the emergency room. I've
heard from a few Moms to take a shower if you feel that you have time
because you don't know the next time you may get one.
We arrived
at the hospital at around 2:30 Saturday morning. I was 1 cm and told I
could receive my epidural if I wanted it. I have heard that you
shouldn't get your epidural too soon because it could run out and the
doctor said that was nonsense that I had a drip and would not run out
of medicine. So around 5:00 am (still 1 cm dilated) I received my
epidural. Up until that point I only had a few contractions the worst
of which was about a 4 on a 1 - 10 pain scale. After the epidural of
course I felt no pain at all. At around 11:00 am they checked me and I
was at 4cm. About 45 minutes later the babies heart rate dropped to
around 60 beats per minute. Everyone started rushing around me and
turning me in different positions to get his heart rate back up to the
145/150 area. The doctor on call checked me (my doctor was still in
route) and I had gone from 4cm to 8cm in 45 minutes. They tossed around
the phrase "emergency C-Section" and I got pretty upset. But the nurses
were able to position me so that Jake's heart rate went back up. So my
husband called our mothers because it was just about time. At around
1:15 the doctor checked me again and said she would be back in about 10
minutes and I would start pushing. With my husband, Mother &
Mother-In-Law cheering me along I started pushing at 1:30 pm and three
pushes later (12 minutes total) our little man was born. He had the
cord around his neck and crossed across his chest. I tore a little and
received a couple of stitches. I don't think I could have asked for a
quicker, less painful delivery. Our baby is absolutely perfect we love
him so very much! Good luck to all!

28 Weeks 4 Days - August 23, 2007
Well, it has been quite a while since I updated my page… Everything is going very well. Just passed my Gestational Diabetes test – didn’t really have any worries there. I’ve gotten numerous lectures from my doctor over the last few months about my weight gain. I am 28 wks 4 days and I have gained 28 lbs. The last two months were pretty bad in the weight department – last two visits were 10 lbs. & 7 lbs. respectively. I’ve been keeping a close watch on things this month and am very happy to report that I have only gained 1 lb. in the past three weeks. My next appointment is on Tuesday, August 28th. Doc said I would start going every two weeks after this appointment. Early on I had quite a bit of pain due to (after a trip to the hospital) a pretty decent size fibroid off the top of my uterus. Aside from about a week of pain from that and my CONSTANT excruciating tail bone pain things have been very good.
The baby is rolling and kicking everyday! My favorite thing is to lie down after dinner and watch my belly roll - every night at 7:00 pm almost on the dot he is crazy active! Doc says I will get another sonogram closer to my due date. I can't wait to see our little guys face again! Good luck to you all & God Bless!
