Update: Adriana had her 6 month check up and she weighed 16lbs 8 oz's and is 25.75 inches long. She measures in the 50 percentile in all her measurements. Our doctor said she's PERFECT. And of course I already knew that. ;) And did I mention she's formula fed! It is possible for a FORMULA fed baby to grow perfectly or ideally! And not that many babies do! I personally think size depends on genetics and not what your baby eats! My opinion. :)

Adriana Faith's Birth Story

I was 39 weeks and 1 day pregnant when I entered the hospital on the 27 September 2007 at 7 am for induction. I was given Pitocin around 8:45. I was checked by the nurse and I was dilated at 3 cm and 80% effaced. My Dr. also said that my baby's head was not engaged in the birth canal. She kept bouncing to the top of my uterus. My Dr. also told me that my baby was going to be big because I have gestational diabetes. Which kind of confused me because a week before I was induced the U/S said my baby weighed 7 lbs 5 oz's. And what also confused me was that if she's so big, how can she have room to bounce? As soon as the Pitocin started, I started to feel the first contractions and every hour the nurse up my dose. Around 12 pm the contractions started to get more intense and I requested for some pain meds. My Dr. decided to give me 50 mcg of Fentanyl to help ease the pain, but what I didn't like about Fentanyl is that it only last 1 hour. Once the first dose of Fentanyl wore off, I requested another dose at 3pm. This time they gave me 100 mcg of Fentanyl and it still only lasted 1 hour. Around 6 pm I was in so much pain and on the max dose of Pitocin. I did request for another dose of Fentanyl but the nurse told me that she was unable to give me anything to ease the pain. She wanted to wait until my Dr. came in to see me. That when I broke down in tears because I was in so much pain. Around 7 pm, my nurse checked me to see how far I progressed. When she checked me I was only 4 cm. And that's when I broke down again. I didn't expect to go through 11 hours of labor and only progress 1.5 cm. When I was in the middle of my brake down due to the pain, my Dr walked in and saw I was in distress. She checked me and said I was 4.5 cm dilated, but my baby's head was still not engaged in the birth canal. My doctor then told me to prepare myself for a c-section if I don't progress by the next morning. She also told me she didn't want to brake my water because there's a big chance the umbilical cord can come out first and the baby's head will cut off her oxygen supply. Around 7:30 pm I FINALLY got my epidural. My Dr. was so kind to give it to me so early. :-) Since the epidural started I was pain free. :D But the bad part about the epidural is that had to get my blood sugars checked every hour. So, didn't really sleep that much that night. But the good news is that my blood sugars were in range and I was not required to have a insulin drip. Around 9 am the next morning, my Dr came in and checked to see how far along I was and I was dilated to 5 cm and the baby's head was still not engaged. She was still bouncing. She then told me that she's going to wait until 3pm to see if I progressed any. If I didn't, I would be heading in for a c-section. Around 1:30 pm my water finally broke! YaY Around 2:30 I started to feel intense pressure, but I just blew it off as a intense contraction and pressed for more meds from my epidural. lol Well at 3pm my nurse came in to check me and she was shock to find out that my baby was half way down the birth canal. She then proceed to run out the room and call my doctor. My doctor arrived in the room around 3:20pm and that's when I started to push. And at 3:40 my little Adriana was born. She didn't cry when they laid her on my chest, she was so calm. As she laid there, I kept thanking the good Lord for bringing her into my life. She's such a blessing

My pregnancy updates

Hello. My name is Melissa and I'm expecting my first child. I can't tell you how excited I am. So far, my pregnancy has been a blessing. The Dear Lord has been so kind to me. My first and second trimester was great. The only symptom I had in the first trimester was being tired all the time and my second trimester was great!! Now that I'm in my 3rd Trimester I knew something was bound to happen. I didn't pass my 3 hour glucose test, so now I have gestational diabetes. But the good news is that my little Addy is doing great. During my last U/S at 29 wks and 5 days, she weighed in at 3 lbs 3 oz's. Per my OB doctor her weight is slightly below normal, which I can't complain because I don't want to have a large baby. :) I am watching my diet and putting this situation in the Lord's hands. I know He'll take care of my little angel.

18 weeks and 6 days

Here's a few items I recently bought for my little Adriana

11 April 2007

Today, I'm at 14 weeks and 6 days and I had my 3rd appointment with my doctor. We were able to hear the baby's heart beat and it was 145. This is the second time I heard the heart beat at the office, the last time I heard it was when I was 11 weeks. It was such an awesome experience. What's also great news is that I will have my next ultrasound May 9th. Please think Pink. I can't wait to find out if my little peanut is a boy or a girl. Because I have the big urge to do some shopping. :)

09 May 2007

Well, I had my second ultrasound today and I found out that I'm having a little girl. We are going to name her Adriana Faith. I'm so excited.. I did visit my OB Dr. today and he said that my amniotic fluid is low, but not to low where it's a concern. I'm just not in the "normal" catagory. So, now I plan on drinking at least 2-3 litters of water a day. Also, my Dr. told me that I need to start gaining some weight. I haven't gained nor have I lost any pounds. So, now I'm going to increase my ice cream intake and hopefully this will get me up to par on my weight.. hehe..

24 May 2007

So far my pregnancy is going great and sometimes I feel like I'm not pregnant. Well, that's until I feel little Adriana move. :) I'm now 21 weeks pregnant.. I sometimes think I'm one of theluckiest pregnant women out there. Still no morning sickness and no brain farts.. lol.. Honestly, it seems like I can remember things more then I did when I wasn't pregnant.. Which is strange.. I just think the dear Lord is being kind to me. He's awesome that way. :)

29 March 2007

Not much to update on my pregnancy. I'm still feeling GREAT! :) My next Dr's appointment is on the 5th of June and I do hope I gained some weight. I don't want to get another lecture from my doctor. ;) Well, ever since I found out I"m having a girl, I've been doing so much shopping. lol.. I already purchased most of Adriana's 0-3 month old clothes. I'm now looking into purchasing 3-6 month old clothes.. I bought most of the clothes off of Ebay. What's great about buying clothes on Ebay is nobody's looking for Fall baby clothes, which means cheap prices. I know it will be a different story when summer is almost over. I figured it's best to start now.:)

21 July 2007

Well, last week I found out that I failed the 3 hour glucose test. So, now I have Gestational Diabetes. I don't having any signs or symptoms, but I decided to start watching my sugar and my carbs until I go see the Diabetes councoler on Wednesday (July 25th). But the good news is that my little Adriana is on the small side. During my last ultrasound I found out she weighed in at 3lbs 3oz's. My doctor told me that her weight is little below normal, but not to worry. Now that I'm staying away from bad sugar and carbs, I hope that when little Addy is born, she'll be "average" weight. I guess we'll see in two months. Oh, my amniotic fluid is not a problem anymore. My OB doctor said that everything is perfect now. I guess drinking 4 liters of water a day, helped out alot. :)

I still haven't gained that much weight. At my last OB visit, I gained only 1 lb since my last visit in June. Which means I only gained 9 lbs so far in my pregnancy. :)

Here's the latest U/S picture of Adriana at 29 weeks and 5 days. She's sucking her thumb, but it looks like she can suck on her toes as well.. :D

25 July 07

Today I went to see my Diabetes Councilor and she gave me so much information. The good news I have is that my Gestational Diabetes has just started within the last week.. So we were able to catch it in time and control it. So far, the diet isn't that bad. I did decide to test to see if I could have a Wendy's Spicey Chicken sandwich, but I was over by 9 points, so now I know that I can't have that until the Addy's born.. lol.. Lesson learned. But other then that, my sugar level's are within range. :D I'm so glad to know that GD isn't as bad as it seems.. I don't mind pricking my fingers four times a day, but I did ask the councilor if I can have a machine that dose not take that much blood.. hehe.. I'm a wimp when it comes to needles.. :D

02 Aug 07

Well, today I went to go see my OB Dr and my Gestational Diabetes councilor. As for how Addy's doing, she's doing great. The good news is that I gained 1 lb the past 2 weeks. YaY! I hope I can do that for the next 2 months. If I do keep it up, it will be a total of 15 lbs gained the while pregnancy. woo hoo.. I can't complain.. :D Today I also was started on my bedtime insulin dose. I was excited for the insulin because my morning fasting sugars haven't been so great. The hardest part about the insulin is giving myself the shot. It doesn't really hurt that much, it's just the thought of giving myself the shot that bothers me. lol.. But it's all worth it.. I just keep looking at the bright side, it's only for another 8 weeks.. :)

13 Aug 07

Well, I just got back from my appointment with my diabetes councilor and she decided that we need to attack my fasting sugars aggressively because the insulin doses I've been getting haven't even made a dent in my FBS level. So, now I've been instructed start of with 20 units and increase by 2 units every night until I'm in target range of 60-90. I also lost 2 lbs since mylast visit with her. She told me that I need to up my carb intake at lunch and dinner. She told me not to worry about my blood sugar levels for one week and to see her in 7 days. If my sugars are high, she will put me on insulin before meals. I honestly don't mind the injections, I just want the problem to be fixed. I just pray that my little one is gaining the appropriate weight for her development. I know she's already on the small side, but I hope within the next few weeks she starts to gain some weight.. Please keep us in your prayers.

22 Aug 07

I have some great news to report. I finally got my fasting blood sugars under control! woo hoo!! It did take 33 units of insulin to fix it, but it worked. Today was the first time my fasting sugars were 76. I'm so glad everything is finally on track. But the bad news is that I lost another pound. :/ I will see my OB on Friday and see what he says. I'm not to sure if I should be loosing weight at this stage of pregnancy. Wish me luck.

thanks for the comment, I will follow your advice, I really don't think that shaving her hair will do any good, but I just wanted to hear from other mommies that didn't do this, everyone that I know (who has had babies) did it (they do this in the mexican culture), so I wasn't sure ...thanks again!

momtotheo - Wednesday, 20 August
Now that's a nice seat!! Too bad they don't sell it in Canada!

Awwwwwwe! Your baby girl is SOOOOO PRECIOUS!! Thanks for the comments. Your birth story sounds like all the reasons I wanted home birth, mainly, NO BODY induces me, I get to let nature take its course so I don't end up w/ an emergency C. WHich I wouldn't need if the doctors didn't create an emergency for me. LOOL!!
THe good news is, in the end you got your precious gift from The LORD, and still managed to avoid the knife. I suggest reading the book, "pushed Birth" before you give birth again to get you up to speed on all the ins and outs of labor and delivery from the medical perspective. It gives you the opportunity to see the procedure in a different light. After all, you make such beauties, I KNOW you just gotta have another, LOL!!
:} (don't know why when I copy & paste the smileys it doesn't work for me, what's up with that)?!?!
Hugs,
Alisha

I've been meaning to respond to your comment about the teething thing, but i kept forgetting. Anyway thanks for the response, hopefully he will get some soon but we will see. Your little girl is so cute by the way. Have a good night!

babyJSL - Monday, 5 May
Thanks for responding! I left his running nose alone. It is now much better. It just went away. I will keep in mind about saline drop the next time he has a terrible running nose. By the way, you baby girl is so adorable. I can see the camera loves her. Lots of nice pictures. I can't belive she is sitting already. My baby can't sit yet. Anyway, thanks again.

illy1 - Sunday, 4 May
Hi, my baby had a bad cold/runny nose for quite a few days and we tried saline drops and all that but nothing seemed to help. Then a friend of mine recommended trying a bit of breastmilk and the next day his cold was gone! It also worked when he had mild conjunctivitis. I guess it works as a kind on antiseptic and of course it's full of antibodies.

brandywittwins - Thursday, 1 May
yes ive tried everything ...there taking there bottles fine

Ah thanks! You little Adriana is suuuuuuper cute! Does everyone just go crazy over her eyes and hair every where you go? I wish we could go to the beach, it's like winter here!

oneluv - Sunday, 20 April

jh1983 - Thursday, 10 April
I was just talking to another woman about that. My nurse told me not to eat many carbs three days before the test...which is why i did it. I usually eat whole wheat pastas and the go lean kashi cereal for snacks. I am mainly a fruit and veggie person though - so i still ate plenty of those before my test. However, my doctor doesnt perform a 3 hour test. He only puts you on a diabetes diet if your numbers are high. Which I think will be good for me regardless. It will help me make sure I am eating all of the right foods. When chatting with the other woman, i realized that so many doctors have their patients do various thingse before their test. I wish they were a little more consistent! But thanks for the tip.

my-lil-miracle - Monday, 7 April
Hey, yeah the exam was only esternal so I don't beleive that dr. and I won't be seeing her again, so....... I'm hoping my baby will be no more then 8.6 pounds.. thatwould be good, and i really hope he doesn't have any of the GD side effects..

Thanks a bunch for the comment, yeah I'd love to hear what your pediatrician has to say! Your little girl is SO precious! I love the picture with the swimsuit and sunglasses, what a doll. Take care!

jpcm - Wednesday, 19 Mar
Hi, Adriana is adorable and I love her name!!! I love the caption under her swimsuit picture, about talking to the man in the moon. The movie Man in The Moon was filmed where we are from so it's a big hit here still. I plan on telling Caitlin about it when she and mommy talk about stars and wishes. We made plaques for her room that say We made a Wish and YOU came true, and You are proof Dreams Come True. Noone I know has a child so little, and now because people see all that she eats they say she'll just be petite. We can't get her to drink milk at all...but are trying. Thank you so much for your message, sometimes it's hard and I have my days where I worry about if I will be a good mom, but I guess everyone does that. We are having another little girl end of April and that scares me too, getting excited though!!!

mvthomas - Monday, 3 Mar
