November 16th-07

My first post on my own page...10 weeks, 4 days today and I feel not pregnant! I've been very lucky with no sickness and other than been tired, and having the odd headache, I'm the same old me. We go for our first external ultrasound (have had two internal ultrasounds at 6 weeks and 8 weeks - saw the 'baby' and saw the heartbeat....106 at 6 weeks and 171 at 8 weeks) on Monday, Nov 26th (IPS screening for Down's etc) but they will let us see the baby and take some pics home which is exciting as THEN, we'll tell everyone! We've only told my family and a few VERY close friends. Will be hard to tell my boss but I know he'll be happy for me.

Question about the ultrasound...they never told me to arrive with a full bladder...should I?

November 26th-07

Ultrasound was great...what a huge relief to see that little baby moving and to see all the body parts. It looked like it had the hiccups! Heart beat was 155 and length was good for the age (she didn't tell me what it was. Now we wait for results of nuchal transparency and blood work - early -mid January! (see photo - she/he has large feet!! ha!). Told my boss today and he was happy for me...everyone is that we have told so far. Hard for a few that I know want to have kids and are struggling...hard for me to tell them my news.

December 14th -07

Well, things have gotten interesting.....turns out my first ultrasound showed a low lying placenta covering the internal os - after some spotting on the weekend (very little), I went thru a series of tests which all came back fine. A second ultrasound at 14 weeks 6 days showed that it's still low lying but is not covering the internal os. We are not sure if this means its moving up to where it should be or just two different people's view of the same picture. He could also see a small pool of blood still there so I may have a bit more spotting or it will just become part of a fold and I wont see any. Either way, due to the spotting and my age, he has ordered me off work for a week (which takes me to my xmas break so I'm off until Jan2nd now) and to stop physical activity (sex, curling and long/frequent walks). Just to relax and remain stress free with no physical activity. I see him again on Monday for our first appointment (my OB just happened to be at the hospital so I met him for the first time in the Ultrasound room), and I'll know more then....wonder if I have to wait until 20 weeks to have another ultrasound to see if the placenta has moved up! Due to the fact my uterus is still growing, there is a good chance it will move up on it's own. Worse case, it doesn't and I have placenta previa and my have complete bedrest adn a c-section. Honestly, as long as I can have a healthy baby, I'll do whatever it takes!

January 18th, 2008

Great day! had my OB appointment and found out the results of my IPS (genetic testing) was negative...what a huge relief. He also said my Iron and hemoglobin levels were good and I'm A+ blood type (which I knew). Won't know about my placenta until Tuesday so must still abstain from sex! I got to hear the heartbeat on the doppler again which is always such a joy! Then he measures my belly and says that I'm measuring for 23 weeks instead of 20 weeks! Oh boy...big baby? We'll have to see what the ultrasound says - usually with IVF babies, they tend to be small so a bit unusual! Anyway, it was a great day! looking forward to my ultrasound on Tuesday now - no, we don't want to know the sex!

Sunday, January 20th, 08

Madame Zaritska's prediction for me:

The day you deliver, outside will be blustery. Your baby will arrive at night.

After a labor lasting approximately 9 hours, your child, a girl, will be born. Your baby will weigh about 6 pounds, 9 ounces, and will be 20-1/2 inches long. This child will have light brown eyes and dark hair. (hope the labour part is NOT right!!)

Tuesday, January 22nd, 08

Had our ultrasound appointment this morning - snowy morning and the technician was 25 mins late - never even apologized! She had zero personality and basically barked out instructions to me - never spoke for the whole procedure. Left and came back with my husband (thanks for telling me where you are going) and starting going thru the babies anatomy - any questions we had, she had a snarky reply or made us feel like idiots! My husband asked if the baby's size is good for being 20 weeks and she said "I'm not a Dr., I'm just a tech and I have a hard enough job just making sure I take the right pictures'!! My husband, began to lose his temper and said' I just asked a question'. It really dampened our experience and we complained to the receptionist and will complain to my OB!! My hubbie was furious - I felt bad for him as this is only the second ultrasound he has gotten to see and he has trouble feeling the kicking so this was a big deal for him especially. I was so upset afterwards and had a good cry!

ON the flip side, baby was squirming and actually flipped over! Looked like he was rubbing his eyes and then gave us the peace sign. Kept opening and closing his/her mouth too. Very active and we were delighted to see that everything looked good although we won't know for sure until Feb 12th. If something is not good, my OB will call us next week.

Thursday, Jan 31st 08

Talked to my Dr. today and my 20 week ultrasound was very good....all normal measurements and I'm measuring where I should be for 20 weeks - and babe is in the 50th percentile so nice and average! On the flip side, my placenta is still low lying so another ultrasound at 30 weeks to see where it is...he suspects it will move up then. Otherwise, I'm delighted all is well!

I also told the office manager and Dr. about the tech and apparently they get a complaint a week about her!!! Office manager can't understand why something isn't done about her....they need to find another tech for that ultrasound clinic and if she hates her job that much...well, quit! My Dr. said that there is no where else in the city that does as good a job as they do and so it's a trade off....and I'll take having a good job over a nice tech but you should be able to get both! Apparently the receptionist at the clinic called my Dr.'s office after we left to let them know we'd had a bad experience.....perhaps she is in agreement that this girl has to go!!

Friday, Feb 29th, 08

Another good OB apointment (forgot to mention I had one earlier in February - he gave me antibiotics for my cold which worked well. Hubbie came too and got to hear the heartbeat for the first time.).
Anyway, I measured 27cm so I'm right on target (few days ahead) and heart beat was great! Love hearing it! Told me to pick up some support undergarments for my back but so far, I can't find them! Hot showers for nosebleeds and also for my back (and to help baby move ALL over my uterus and not just my right side) I'm to get on my hands and knees on my bed and stay that way for 10 minutes! Booked my 30 week ultrasound for March 28th so see if my placenta has moved up! Going back to the same place so likely the same bitchy tech...she better have improved or else I will tell her what I think this time!! Will be great to see the baby again too!

Wednesday, March 19th, 08

Visit with OB this morning. Weight gain is about 17 pound (even though only 1 pound in the last 2.5 weeks - he was not concerned about this) and he was very happy with this! I was measuring 30 weeks so about a week ahead. Heart beat was the loudest and strongest I have ever heard it...she/he is getting stronger!! Head is down which is great but he said there is still room for baby to turn so we won't get too excited about that yet (no breech). Going home to PEI today to see parents and brothers and nieces and nephews and friends!!! Can't wait to get some family nuturing!

Friday, March 28th, 08

Went for our 30 week ultrasound today and YAH, there was a student about to graduate working there for her final rotation so we got her instead of nasty tech from January!! She was so nice and friendly and excited for us. Half way thru the measurements she had to show me the screen as it was a perfect picture of the nostrils and little mouth just opening and closing! He/she behaved very well until the last few minutes when they got a little tired of being poked! ha! Got some pictures and my husband enjoyed the time he had as well. As they get bigger, it's much harder to get good pictures so I have posted the ones she gave me but my 20 week ones are better...she said it would be that way. Much happier today! Now, we just hope to hear from the Dr. that baby is measuring ok and my placenta has moved up!!

Thursday, April 10th

Good news from Dr. Fraser....my placenta has moved up!! It now clears the internal os by 4.0 cm which I guess is good! Such good news!! Baby is measuring right on target and is in the 70th percentile! No bigger please!! Heart beat was 147 and when he took it today, it was 132. He said I'm doing great and all is well!! Love those visits. I'm getting swollen ankles now, in particular, my right one......he said its all normal but to keep an eye on it and if it gets worse to let him know.

Monday, April 21st

Good visit with Dr. Fraser....and the 70th percentile was based on my dates....based on the ultrasound, I'm in the 53rd percentile which is much more accurate (and I like that number much better)! I was measuring almost 34cm which is right on (34 week on thursday). Heartbeat was strong and clear and he gave me a thumbs up!!

Wednesday, May 7th

Dr. Fraser away so Dr. Huebanks saw me.....all the same. Weight gain is 27 pounds according to him but it's actually 24 pounds (weigh me after lunch and with clothes on and yep, there's 3 pounds there)!. Heart beat was good and where we always find it. Measured 36 weeks so right on. blood pressure was 110/60 which is good and urine was fine. Ankle (right) not as swollen today which is nice!

Wednesday, May 14th

Just back from my weekly OB appointment...still all good! measuring 37cm so right on schedule. Heart beat good and he said the head is not engaged yet but I'm not carrying high, high either. Said he might do a stretch and sweep next week...yikes, hear those are not that fun! Oh, my GBS results were negative too! My friend Michelle came too and took notes! Haha...my OB is so funny! He also gave me a prescription for hemmroid cream and for another massage!! Weight did not change from last week so all good! Blood pressure was 117/70 and Urine was clear of glucose. Happy!!

Tuesday, May 20th

Visit with OB - Blood Pressure was 130/70 which is still normal but that top number is creeping up! Everything else was fine but he did say he is a bit concerned as the baby hasn't dropped yet....could be a sign that my pelvis is too small for babe which would mean c-section. He is going to do an internal next week which will tell us more. Weight was up a pound, urine, clear and as always, loved hearing the strong heart beat!!!

Tuesday, May 27th

OB Visit - Blood pressure was 108/70, urine was good, I measured 38 and change, and the heart beat was good. He did an internal and said my cervix is closed and although my pelvis is 'smallish' and my pubic bone is 'there' they shouldn't be an issue which was good news. He went thru all the signs to look for when I should then go to hospital. If nothing happens, I see him next Friday, June 6th...my due date! At that point, we will reassess the situation.

Thursday, June 5th

Well, I think my water broke at 4:30am this morning! I went to pee and on my way back to bed, I felt gushes of fluid come out...back to bathroom to find my undies soaked! Pink tinge to it and a little bit of mucus! called hospital and they said it sounded like I did and to come in around 8-9am this morning!! Excited but nervous....probably won't chat to anyone until after!! Good luck to everyone!

momma-b - Tuesday, 27 May
well luckily my dr told me i was about 1/2 cm dialated today. that isnt much, but i was very pleased to have a teeny bit of progress. my dr will not do anything to speed up the process for me, and they wont consider me to be overdue until i am 42 weeks. i sure hope that he comes earlier on his own!

massconfusion84 - Tuesday, 27 May
lol i just felt like whining. Im miserable for obvious reasons. My whole body feels like it was hit by a bus basically. I go to the Dr today maybe I will have made some progress.

bailey - Tuesday, 27 May
Hi there-
Just caught your question about the mole thing.... I have noticed little nasty skin things happening. I am actually going to my dermatologist Wednesday to see about removing the few that I have. They said it has to do with the hormones. But hey as long as they can be removed, I'm okay with that.... :) Hope that answers your questions and congrats on your pregnancy... We are at the home stretch!!!!!!

terra-michelle - Tuesday, 27 May
Yes! I have noticed little moles on my arms and more so the later on in pregnancy I get. Have a wonderful day!!!

Thanks! it makes me feel better that i'm not the only one! it feels like it though with people who are due same as me and are having their baby's already! ha ha thanks again!

margysd - Saturday, 24 May
Your pictures sure do look great. You look awesome pregnant. That is a great keepsake.

At my last midwife appointment she said that it looked like the baby was moving and into my pelvic area, but I am not sure if that constitutes as dropping.

She did tell me that I could start using primrose oil and sex to get the labor induction process going. I have not started the primrose yet, but might start next week. At this point, I feel like I have been pregnant forever.

margysd - Friday, 23 May
Hey, How are things going with you? I love the new pictures that you have posted on your page. You look great pregnant!

I have not started to dilate. At each appointment I ask the midwife to check me and she has not seen anything yet. But, so far it has been a healthy pregnancy--negative for all of the testing, strong heartbeat, everything looks good.

How about you, have you started to dilate? Take care. ttys.

rob - Friday, 23 May
Hey..
everything is good!! the doc said the baby is just symetrically small which means its still growing and getting nutrients from the placenta so no induction for me !!!!! YEAH!!

amandajlane - Friday, 23 May
Yea I know that Obama really wants a more open health insurance policy for us but I dont know if that would improve our maternity leave! I really hope he does though. . I am tired of being the nation everyone hates because of one idiot and his "tiny penis syndrome" Ugh!! There really is no good reason to only give us 6 weeks. They leave it up to our employers and they give us the required time to "heal" but nothing extra for us to bond with our children. its really sad.

amandajlane - Friday, 23 May
Nope we arent that blessed! I think its ridiculous that I only get 6 weeks after I have her!! If we had the means for me to just stay home and raise our daughter I would. They wonder why so many people here are depressed and its all because of stupid crap like this that stresses us out! I wish we could have better maternity leave. . but instead I get the ordeal of finding a daycare that I trust to take care of my 6 week old!!!!

Megan the lump maker - Friday, 23 May
They give us 6 to 10 weeks only. It's extremely depressing and not fair. Men had to make that rule. No wonder everyone in this country is on prozac. There are no more family values, especially when it comes to women. I'm so stressed out about having to return to work so early, and letting someone else raise my child...

mom2mady - Thursday, 22 May
Im not sure what the cerclage looks like but when I go to the peri, through the ultrasound it looks like a miniature rope. My doctor's kept referring to it as a stich. Thanks to that stich I was able to stay pregnant (still am) if not my cervix would have opened and i would of lost my little girl.

mom2mady - Wednesday, 21 May
A cervical cerclage is treatment for cervical incompetence a surgical procedure called cervical cerclage, in which the cervix is sewn closed during pregnancy. The cervix is the lowest part of the uterus and extends into the vagina.

rob - Tuesday, 20 May
Hey...
me measuring small could mean alot of things... my placenta could have stopped working or there could be a genetic deficiency or the baby could just be small.. im not too worried cause ive been measuring small the whole time im really tiny to so thats a factor.. i went for my ultra sound today and my next doc visit is thursday so i should know by then if they are going to induce or not.. im really hoping they dont induce i want the baby to come when its ready and when my body is ready i really dont believe in forcing it out.. but im not going to argue with the doctor!!! he is the expert after all lol.. so keep your fingers crossed for us that all goes well!!!!

polingn - Tuesday, 20 May
Yeah it's my 1st and if it's not scary enough they have to add a csection to it. I find out thursday for sure, it is really disapointing knowing that I want more children and I would have to have a csection for them as well. But I wish you the best of luck

MAGGIEMAE - Tuesday, 20 May
Thanks!

raebabe - Tuesday, 20 May
Well, best of luck and I will keep my fingers crossed for you! Keep me posted!

feltkoo23 - Tuesday, 20 May
With my first, they told me my pubic bone was miss shaped and too small. I am 4'11 and prepregnancy about 90 pounds. So it makes since. I had a C section because of that, and as much as I would love to try a natural birth, I just know that its out of my hands.

polingn - Tuesday, 20 May
Yeah it sucks huh... My doctor said I could only deliver a 6 to 6 in half pound baby, and well he should already weigh that so it looks that i'll be having one as well! I've just been trying to look at the bright side of it we'll both be safe and well I just get to lay there, haha recovery may be longer but hell it just gives me an excuse to why I havnt lost all the weight yet and am still lazy haha I wish you the best thou and some women don't drop until right before so maybe your just not ready is all

raebabe - Tuesday, 20 May
Hi missygirl! I had the same EXACT thing happen to me with my first pregnancy. I was 39 weeks and maybe dilated to 1cm and baby didn't drop. My dr told me I would need a c-section. I was SO mad but I figured they knew what they were talking about so I schedule my c-section. After everything I am so mad I agreed to the c-section. Recovery was terrible and I thought to myself "what if I waited a couple of more days". They told me my pelvis wasn't going to "open". This time, I am almost 37 weeks and dilated to 1cm and baby has dropped. I think too, first babies are harder and take longer because your body doesn't know what to do! My advice, hang in there and try to wait it out to avoid the c-section! Good luck :)

Here you go:

What I ACTUALLY needed from packed bag at hospital:

I put EVERYTHING in my bag and needed very little of it!!!! I didn't even use my own robe because I was more than comfortable just being in their gowns... You're in and out soooo fast that you don't really care about being in your own robe and slippers believe it or not. As far as pads - they like you to use theirs as they have a "certain way" they like you to cover yourself down there for a few days... my hospital liked me to rinse with warm water with one of their water bottles and use their pads - with BIG underwear and some witch hazel pads on top of my sanitary pad - I think the with hazel pads are similar to tucks pads or the sort... They feel soothing...

Here's what I actually used of what I packed:

*Sample size bathroom items because the hospital stuff is generic and gross... (toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner & shower gel)

*Hair towel (if you have a special type of towel you like to dry your hair in... they usually just give you a small one to try your body off with)

*Clothes to go home from hospital in. I actually just wore what I went to the hospital in because I had to be there at 6AM so I only wore them from the house to the hospital then hung them up in closet to be wore home. ***they give you nursing pads if you ask for them - so don't worry about taking them - but I'd wear a good nursing bra or atleast pack one***

*camera and charger - don't forget your cell phone charger!!! :0) EVERYBODY DOES!!!

*outfit for baby to get pictures in - and something a little more comfortable for baby to go home in. They provide more than enough diapers and wipes so I wouldn't worry about overdoing it packing those...

*blanket to cover baby in carseat (i know some of these items are just common sense but I figured I'd rather tell you EVERYTHING that I used) :0)

*Baby binkie (pacifier) They have some there but I wanted her to get used to the one that I would be using that home

*I have a puppy so I took a receiving blanket for my family to take home to the puppy with the baby smell on

I think that's it... Wow - I actually used a little more than I thought I did... but that's not even HALF what I packed... and it was a PAIN getting everything back to the car because I had TOO much stuff...

Good luck :0)

Yes, i did read 2nd comment. You're right. It is and should be about me. i guess they are just selfish and hateful. I'm just the type that always tries to please everyone.

MELINDA73072 - Saturday, 17 May
Thank you for your response. I already know it's way too close to my due date to travel and it wasn't just that that's stressing me. It's the fact that I'm being told I am going to ruin the wedding because my son was suppose to be in the wedding and I won't send my kids without me. They act like me sending my kids so far away without me and on a plane is a ridiculous fear. My son wants to go because he has an opportunity to be in a wedding, but he will also miss the birth of his sister which he will never experience again. No one in my family is close and my brother really doesn't have any family from our side attending, but his Fiance has like 150. I just feel if I was the the tables were turned no one would risk or make any extreme sacrifices for me.

shortstuff - Saturday, 17 May
I agree with you!! Why are all this people trying to start their own labor?? I know women that would have loved to carry their baby to term ..but couldn't due to medical reasons and here are these ladies that are able to carry healthy babies to term and take it for granted.
