Hello, My name is Melissa Smith, I'm 27 years old and my husband Dwayne is 28 years old, we have been married for 8 years, but dating since middle school:)

We have been self employed since 2000, we have a 3500sq. ft. antique shop here in Portland, That we run with my in-laws, we couldn't be happier.

I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome(pcos) in 2000 which is when we started trying to conceive. We got pregnant after using clomid in 2002 and lost our baby to an unfinished misscarriage at 7 weeks (didn't find out until I was supposed to be 12 weeks) due to getting off Metformin. We began trying again about 5 months later and had been on aprox. 5-6 cycles of provera/clomid, 4 cycles of provera/femara, we went through ovarian drilling in 2005, then more clomid and femara cycles, still nothing.

I began starting to give up, started getting on different herbs, I think those just made things worse, as my periods stopped all together even with provera, I was then put on a stronger med to get my period going (prometrium) way more expencive.

Well, gave up on the herbs, tried femara again, still nothing my progestorone level was still at 1.6 (no ovulation)

Then decided to ask my ob/gyn for a referral to Portland center for reproductive medicine. Wanted to try the shots 2 more times, then move on to IVF.

My RE first put me on YAZ birth control pills to help regulate my hormones a little, even though I had to wait 28 days, it was worth a shot.

Then started AF on April 10th 2007, went in for an ultrasound on April 11th, Started my first shot of Repronex on April 12th. Went back in April 18th to check follicles 6.5mm was the larges on my left ovary, moved me up to 2 amps per day, went back in April 21st, larges follicle 7.0mm, Moved me up to 3 amps per day larges follicle 10mm, Moved me up to 4 amps, went back in again on April 28th, multiple follicles at 12.5-16.7mm, we are finally ready...took my trigger shot that night, went in May 4th for IUI, Then went in May 16th, 2007 and got my BIG FAT POSITIVE!!!

So, after 8 years of refusing to give up, we are now pregnant with twins and 2 healthy heartbeats at 6 weeks 3 days!

It has been a very long journey for us. But we never gave up, no matter how hard it got.

We are still very early, but the doctor says everything looks good, we are very hopeful, I'm currently pretty much on bedrest because i'm high risk for misscarriage...

My only symptoms of pregancy are 1) bb's hurt (since 2 days after iui) 2) tired all the time 3) more hungry then normal 4) bathroom breaks a lot more.

No morning sickness!!

I had no idea I was having twins, some people just know they are, I did know from about 4 dpo that I was pregnant but not with twins.

I started getting a bump at about 6 weeks, which is way earlier then expected!

6-12-07 7 weeks 5 days!

well, went in for my 7 week 5 day ultrasound, everything looks perfect:) Baby A's heartbeat 142bpm and Baby B's hearbeat 144bpm, doctor says babys are exactly 7 weeks 4 days:) The doctor said the babies will likely be born between dec. 25- Jan. 4th. Because they are twins and will likly be born earlier.

6-18-07 8wks 3 days!

Went back in today to my first OB appointment, babies are still doing good, they have grown so much just in the last week. I didn't get anymore u/s pictures:( but our heartbeats today are: Baby A 153 Baby B 176.

I go in tomorrow for the 1hr. Glucose test and an ekg because my heart rate has been so high. Today at the doctors it was 99 and it has been ranging from 93-99 for the last 2 weeks. My next appointment is July 2nd. ( seems so far away ) But we did buy a doppler heartbeat machine, so in a week or so we should be able to hear our heartbeats at home:)

7-3-07 10 weeks 6 days!

All is still going ok! Went in for my 10 week 3 day appointment, we saw the heartbeats again, and saw the beautiful babies:) They look like babies now:) I can't believe how much they are growing by the week. My next ultrasound is July 27th, which seems so far away to me.

I ended up with a nasty cold, for the last 2 days, and a touch of food poisioning last night, it was horriable, I just hope the babies are still ok. I didn't have a fever but I had bad chills, with a bad headach, and vomiting. I feel better today, but am now worried about the babies again.

I will be going in for downs and spinal testing next week, I know all will be fine, but still can't help worrying.

Other then that, I can't help but be very happy that I made it past 7 weeks, where I lost my last angel. I'm almost through my first trimester:) Can't wait to get out of it...

7-7-07 11 weeks

Got to hear the hearbeats again today at home, I bought a doppler and finally at 11 weeks, i'm able to hear them, today I was only able to find one of them at 154:) I guess it's not easy finding both of the twins. I go in tuesday for the downs testing, hopefully during the ultrasound they will let me see my little babies again, and maybe even get another picture to post...

I'm finally getting over my nasty cold, and am starting to feel better, but still no energy.

I'm also, having a hard time fitting into my clothes now, I'm going to do my maternity shopping next weekend:)

7-11-07 11 weeks 4 days!

Today I went in for a 2D ultrasound for the downs syndrome testing, The doctor said everything looks great, but we won't know for sure until the blood tests come back. These babies sure were active today:) they were kicking all over, and turning, and they kept waving at us:) They both measure 4.6 cm. which is perfect for 11 weeks 4 days! Heartbeats today are: Baby A 160 Baby B 163. This was truly an amazing thing to see for me, My babies are healthy:) They both have seprate placenta's and those look great too. 7-15-07 12 weeks 2 days!

Just an update, I MADE IT TO 12 WEEKS!!!!! YAY!!!

I'm still feeling great with no morning sickness, so I guess I won't be getting it at all, but the babies are still doing good, got there heart rates again with my doppler they were 154 & 157 still strong. I was a little worried because my last appointment they were 160 & 163, (which was only 2 days) so I freaked out and called the doctor...so paranoid:) Still no energy, I sleep all the time (except at night for some reason) Felt the little butterfly's in my tummy this morning at 4am, I was so excited that it was the babies I couldn't go back to sleep, but stopped after a little while:( while i sat there and waited for more...

Got my test and ultrasound results back today the risk for downs is 2:16,221 and trisomy test is 2:27,161 the doctor said everything looks great:)

8-17-07

Went in today for my OB check-up, everything went perfect:) My little ones are actually kicking each other. They are growing so quick, I have more u/s pics but they didn't turn out good at all, But we go in on the 29th of August to get our 2 hour ultrasound done, and to find out what we are having, I can't wait... I can only have 1 person in there at a time and I have My mom, Grandma, sister and niece coming in from central oregon then My husbands mom and dad who want to come in too, so we have to keep switching adults:( that sucks... But we will make it work so everyone can see them. I can't wait to find out what we are having so we can buy all boy stuff or all girl stuff, so far we have been buying both like crazy.

My husband got too see the babies for the first time today since I was 7 weeks pregnant (due to being self employed) He was so excited to see them moving around and seeing there little hands and feet, It was a wonderful thing for him to be able to see them.

Babies heart rates are still ranging from 139-154 depending on how active they are when I check them. And they kick like crazy (I thing they are boys)

Also, got the AFP test results back today and all turned out perfect:)

I do have gestational diabetes already, but i'm managing that with the low carb foods.

We went in yesterday for our 18-20 weeks ultrasound, everything looks great to me, the tech couldn't tell me anything as far as the medical goes, but he measured the babies arm bones, leg bones, head, and looked at the kidneys etc. and we got to find out the sexes of both babies:)

Baby A was so shy we almost didn't get to see, because of the legs being closed... IT'S A GIRL!!!

Baby B we had no problems, this one didn't mind showing off...

The nurse called with our ultrasound results and everything looks good except my baby boy has SUA (single umbellicle artery) most babies who have this problem are ok, from what I have read on the internet, but some have some major problems after birth.

Most umbellicle cords have 2 arteries and 1 vein, My baby boy does not have one like that, It is common with twins I guess, but it sure does scare me. I will be going in to see a genetics doctor some time this week, and will probly have another ultrasound soon to make sure my baby is still growing, as he is not getting the correct blood supply.

Please pray for us, I know my baby boy is strong and we will make it through this, but i'm so freaked out right now.

10-17-07 25 weeks 5 days

Well, babies are still doing good, lots of kicks and twists:) My baby boy is doing most of the kicking on the left side, both babies are head down now. Went to the doctors yesterday and my uterus measures 35cm which I guess is big, but the doctor said it's because of twins!!! I'm so glad Baby Robby is doing good with his SUA, he is getting plenty of blood still. My doctors apts. are now set for every 2 weeks instead of every 4 weeks. (which makes me feel better)

We are so close, 11 more weeks until i'm 37 weeks!!!! I go back in for my 1 hour ultrasound on october 30th, which is soooo far away....

Babies heartrates dropped a little they are normally between 135-145 and are now down to 126 and 132, kinda worries me but the doctor said they are normal.

10-30-07 27 weeks 4 days!

Went in today for another ultrasound to check on the babies growth, Baby A is measuring 27 weeks 5 days and weighs 2 pounds 6 ounces, and Baby B is measuring 28 weeks 5 days and weighs 2 pounds 11 ounces, They are both right on track:)

Heartrates A 141 B 133.

Both babies are breech now, everything looked good from what I was told by the Tech, But I will find out more tomorrow when the doctor calls.

I'm feeling ok, still very tired, and bad heartburn:( not sleeping at night because of my bathroom breaks every 30-45 minutes. but other then that we are doing good.

Next doctors appointment is Nov. 9th, will update again then.

11-9-07 29 weeks!

Well, my appointment was pretty uneventfuly, I found out it's time to be put on insulin, so I go back in tuesday for that:( I knew it was just a matter of time though. The babies are both doing great, heartrates were a little up A 150 B 160, but the doctor said that's nothing to worry about. I also asked him about the hiccups, each baby seems to get them 3-4 times a day, I feel like we have hiccups all day long... He said it's completly normal, and a good sign that the babies are doing good. He also said it was time to pack my bag! which scared me, I'm so early and the babies are only about 3 pounds now, hopefully they will hang in there until 37 weeks, which is January 4th.

My next appointment is Nov. 20th, and I will have another growth ultrasound on the 29th of Nov.

Well, that's all I have to update, Will update again soon.

11-28-07 31 weeks 4 days!

Had a Dr's apt. yesterday, My uterus is measuring 39 1/2 cm, Found out our baby girl is laying across the very bottom of my tummy (which explains the bladder problems) and baby boy is laying across the top, I don't think they are going to turn in time, so if their not we will schedual a c-secion at my next apt. which is Dec. 11th. I'm planning on Jan. 3rd, which is my grandfathers birthday, If we make it that far. I'm having a lot of bh contractions still, so the doctor is sending me in tomorrow for a 2 hour nst test to monitor the babies and my contractions. Then 1 hour after the nst I go in for my 2 hour ultrasound. I have gained a total of 15 pounds so far, which I guess is good.

I'm now on 4 units of fast acting insulin before dinner and 10 units of slow acting insulin before bed, My doctor my be adding 6 units of fast acting before breakfast too. I'm so tired of needles:( I'm also testing my blood sugar 4 times a day.

I'm really hoping the babies are both over 3 pounds now and close to 4 pounds. We were able to see them trying to breathe yesterday which was very cool, and explains why they get hiccups so much:) I don't feel too my from my baby girl because she is so low and closer to my back, but my baby boy is trying to roll, scratch, and kick his way out, he is very active.

11-30-07 31 weeks 6 days

Today is not such a good day for me and my family, my StepDad passed away yesterday and I'm so messed up, he was so excited about my babies, and getting me through this pregnancy, I'm very close to my whole family and too loose my Dad is the most horriable thing I have ever had to deal with.

My apt. went ok, concidering. I was so broke up that the nst test was like a blurr. But Everything with that came out fine.

My ultrasound looked good, fluid is perfect for both babies, they are active, good heartrates, measuring 32 weeks 4 days (about 5 days ahead) Both babies are the same size. Baby A weighs 4 pounds 3.2 ounces and baby B weighs 4 pounds 3.5 ounces. Both are very healthy and doing great. Will update again soon.

12-21-07 35 weeks!

Sorry I haven't updated in a while, it's been tough lately... I had my mom here for a week and kept her busy shopping and watching movies with hubby and me. It has been 3 weeks since we lost my dad and things are getting a tiny bit easier to deal with, although it's still such a shock to us, like we will wake up and it was all a bad dream. I know he will be here watching over Hailey, Robby and I when it's time for them to come, I just miss him so much:(

Robby and Hailey are doing very good, The doctor says they are healthy and happy, and a little over 5 pounds each. I'm now 2 cm dialated, and at 80%, I almost ended up in labor and delivery today, because my contractions were 5 minutes apart. So, we are almost there, we still have to schedual my c-section for between the 3rd and 11th of january. (If we make it that far)

I have gained a total of 26 pounds, which the doctor said is fine. uterus is measuring 43 cm now (huge) I'm getting very uncomfortable now, between the cramps, heartburn, and bathroom I'm not sleeping at all, But it will soon be well worth it.

THE BABIES HAVE ARRIVED!!!

On 12-29-07 I started leaking fluid at about 3:30am, and at 6:15am My water broke at home, I rushed to the hospital, and within 30 minutes I was in full labor. (ouch) Because my baby girl was breech and my baby boy was transverse I already new I was going to have a c-section, I dialated from 2 to 6 within 30 minutes and was rushed to the O.R Got my epideral and within about 30 minutes both babies were out and taken to the special care nursery because they were so small and would wake up.

I was 4 weeks early, baby Hailey was born at 8:47am weighing 4 pounds 7 ounces and 18" long, Baby Robby was born at 8:49 weighing 5 pounds 0 ounces and 18 1/2" long.

Both babies came home with me after only 4 days in the hospital, they are doing very good, except at night they are so fussy, they wake up at about 4am every night and don't go back to sleep until about 6:30am, I'm so tired:(

Sorry I haven't updated in a while but as you can imagine it's been pretty busy around here....

Both babies are doing great, we had their second check-up on monday 2-11-08 and all went well.

They finally fit into their newborn clothes, even though they are 2 months old.

They are eating about every 2 hours, so no sleep for mommy:(
