So around 10:15 a.m, I was given a Cervadil to help my FULLY CLOSED and NONE EFFACED cervix open up. I was told that it doesn't always do the job well quick. But by around 2p.m, I was already 2cm dialated. Not only that, but I started having regular contractions 5 minutes apart. I was feeling so horrible, bad head ache, nausea. Not to mention I haven't eaten a thing since Sunday afternoon and was told I couldn't have anything not even water, until after I delivered. Time was going by so slow for me, but according to my husband and doctor, I went from 2cm dialated to 3.5cm dialated in about an hour. Pain, pain, constant pain was taking over my body, and I was shaking uncontrollably from the extremley high blood pressure. I was really scared and nervous because I wasn't expecting to get induced tonight. Around 4 cm dialated, I asked for an EPIDURAL. My contractions were already 3 minutes apart by this time and were way too painful for me to handle along with the head ache and nausea, and I wanted a little rest. It kicked in for about, hmm, 20 minutes until it stopped working completley and I was back in the same crucial pain again.
The anesthisiologist did not understand what happend and why it stopped working, they determined that the catheter fell out or something. So I had to wait for a little bit until another one could be done. So another one was done, and to my surprise and everyone elses, it also DID NOT WORK. This one though, only worked for 5 minutes, unlike the other that worked for 20 minutes. What on earth??!?! I was dying of pain!!! So then they decided to give me STADOL, I didn't know what it really would do, but I was told it would help me sleep and rest for at least an hour. Nope. The pain of the contractions over powered it. So no sleep, no rest for me. I had a really hard time around this time....
So we decided to wait a while after the 2nd epidural and try a 3rd time. That didn't even work for a minute on me. I was so upset and scared of delivering this baby without any pain medication. So they asked if I wanted another shot of STADOL, I said no, number 1, it didn't do anything to me except make me feel high, and number 2, it made the baby high too, so no way.
I was trying to get a hold of my body, and managed to control pain as best as I can, and tried to reassure myself that this is a natural process that the body CAN handle. I can't honestly say that thinking positive like that took the pain away, but it eased my emotions a bit.
Moaning, and groaning, and at times being quiet loud at 7cm dialated, I was so wishing it would fly by faster. It felt like forever. Finally, I was at 9cm dialated and it felt like I had to push, and honestly, I wasn't pushing, just the pain was so bad it was such bad pressure, that my body just felt like it was pushing down anyways. I was already screaming for my doctor. But she wasn't at the hospital yet. So I had to wait for her a half hour holding this baby in. Finally she runs in the room, and my eyes brighten up with happiness. I thought to myself, it will all be over in no time....
Honestly, when the pushing was started, it didn't hurt that bad. The contractions are the worst part of labor and delivery. I felt everything since I had no meds, I then knew myself when to push and when to not push. When to hold my breath, when to let go. I pushed for about a half hour...the only part that started hurting was when the head was almost out.
Nathan Alexander was born at 11:55 a.m Monday morning on February 11, 2008. Weighing in at 6lbs 3.5oz. 19 1/2 inches long!
He wasn't breathing at first which scared me to death because he had mucuous in his throat. But he started breathing and I heard the first cry, my husband was so exstatic he had tears in his eyes, and so did I. I have never seen anything so precious in my entire life.
I didn't tear at all. Which I was so happy about, but I did have a very low platelet count, so I'm slowly recovering. My blood pressure is still a bit elevated, and my swelling is slowly going down.
Nathan is doing really well. Although I didn't get to take him home the day I got discharged due to him developing a slight case of JAUNDICE, I got to take him home the next day on VALENTINES DAY! What could be better than that?
