Monday, 6 October Message to all This may be interesting to some of you. Seema`s email is seema.modhvadia@rdftelevision.com
Hi there,
I work for a television production company based in the UK . We are currently making a documentary for ITV1 exploring the issues surrounding pregnancy and eating disorders. The film will be a thoughtful and insightful look into this extremely sensitive subject.
We’re in the research stage of our production and very keen to chat to women who are, or have been, pregnant whilst having an eating disorder.
If you’re interested in having a chat or finding out more about our documentary, it would be really great to hear from you. All communication would be in complete confidence.
You can contact me on: seema.modhvadia@rdftelevision.com

Tuesday, 29 April I have been practically obsessed with this thrush thing. I used the Nystatin (sp) for 2 weeks ending today and it didn't work. It's sticky on yur nipples, and makes a mess with baby, but doesn't stain. That is probably what they gave you. After a week I called the doc and told her it wasn't clearing up and she gave us the next step up-fluconazole. (Pills for me, liquid to drink for baby, and still use the nystatin.) I had my mom send me a bottle of Gentian Violet (stains everythng purple) because they don't sell it here. I hear it works miracles with pain and getting rid of it, I haven't gotten it in the mail yet. I also started using Grapefruit Seed Extract tonight and taking acidophilus. I cut out sugar and dairy, I boil everything that goes into her mouth daily for 5 minutes, including the breast pump stuff, I rinse my nipples with a vinegar solution with each shower, I change my breast pads constantly, I only use a burpie cloth once per feeding, then get a clean one for next time, and wash everything on very hot water cycle to kill the yeast. It's hard to get rid of and you need to be very persistant. It can grow back after an hour and a half! Google thrush and check out breastfeeding online dot com, as well as the la leche league website under thrush. there is also a woman named Pat Gima (google her name with "yeast treatment plan") and it should come up. I'm trying to stick to it as much as I can. It' s been frustrating and hard to get all the treatments in, I've cried my eyes out plenty from the pain as well as frustration, but my motivation is to get rid of the pain so I can breastfeed, so I'm trying everything possible! Most important thing is to feed the baby though. It doesn't matter how. I swore on my life that my baby would never have formula or a bottle before a month, and I was in so much pain after the first few days after she was born I thought i was going to melt down. I needed a break from breastfeeding, if for only one feeding, becuse I too was tense and in extreme pain and it's not good for me or baby. (Thrush pain is worse at night.) I was rushing he off too. I started pumping and I gave her a bottle of formula so that i could heal and so that she can get fed. That was the first and second week. (A bottle was crucial for the 3 week growth spurt! I couldn't have done it by breast alone.) We now, 4 weeks old, just nurse except for a bottle at night that dad gives her so I can take a break. (The pain isn't gone but it no longer makes my toes curl as much and no more crying...just a lot of deep breathing though.) There wasn't any nipple confusion and I don't feel guilty at all. The most important thing is that the baby needs to get fed. Also you can pump then use a little medicine syringe to give her extra while she is on the breast. Just have dad shoot it directly into her mouth while she is on the breast and she'll be getting an extra dose. (You can use formula for that too. Get one that is digested or partially digested. Easier on stomach. Yeast produces gas and bely pain.) But make sure you find a lactation consultant and talk to them, and I highly recommend using other remedies as well as what the doc gives. Sorry this is so scattered and quick. I'm trying to give yu all the info I have gotten over the last 2 weeks, and I gotta make it quick since my baby is gonna wake up soon. Let me know how it goes. We'll be fine, but it is a b!tch! ;-) Plus I think I just have a bad case of it since I didn't catch it right away. You might be a diff story! Good luck! Maddux -
Monday, 28 April Hi...one thing that worked for me is using olive oil. I would put olive oil on my nipples after a feeding with some cotton balls. You don't hav to worry about wiping it off before feeding again, your skin absorbs most of it and any reside left will not harm the baby in any way. My midwife suggested this and it really helped me. collsbaby -
Monday, 28 April My pain problem with nursing was that my baby had Thrush, which is a yeast infection of the mouth, and I didn't realize it until she was about 2 1/2 weeks old, but had pain since birth with nursing. It's very common, but it's passed back and forth to mama and baby and is extremely painful on your breasts and nipples to nurse. If it's not a latch on/positioning problem, then I'd look into other things like Thrush. (Does she have white residue on her tongue?) Doc's don't seem to know much about breastfeeding (that has been my experience anyway.) I recommend looking for a lactation consultant, at your hosp maybe. Their whole job is helping women with breastfeeding. Good luck. I'm dealing with this myself. My baby turned a month yesterday. csewell0301 -
Monday, 28 April i had that problem and just really make sure she is latching properly and also they make these pads that stick to your breast that cool them they are from medela and they work great! lauren8681 -
Sunday, 27 April did your nipples hurt from day 1 or just now start hurting?? mom2boy -
Sunday, 27 April My nipples were pretty painful for the first 2 weeks. After that they started feeling much better. Make sure your baby is latching correctly but pain is pretty normal in the beginning. In fact my right nipple still hurts pretty bad but that is because I keep getting clogged milk ducts on that side for some reason. MzMommy2B -
Sunday, 27 April Good to hear that she is sleeping better! I am formula feeding. I couldn't do the breast feeding as my breasts were way too sore. Good luck! manda21 -
Sunday, 27 April My son is a month old and for the first two weeks...i absolutely dreaded feeding him because it hurt so much. I started getting fevers when I fed him because I had an infection from cracked nipples. Everyone told me to wait it to just keep trying and by two and half/3 weeks, everything imporved drastically. It will get better. My mistake was switching breasts per feeding. I started feeding him for ten min. on each breast and that make a big difference. Good luck. It will get better! mzmommy2b -
Monday, 21 April He will be 4 weeks old tomorrow. I have the newborn soother swing, so it may be a little different and maybe slower, I dont know, but I think I put him in it for the first time at about 5 days old. mzmommy2b -
Sunday, 20 April
Oh how adorable! mzmommy2b -
Sunday, 20 April Just keep on trying! Try putting her in a swing. It gives them the feeling of rocking, while not actually being in someones arms. I found that this helps let my little boy adjust to sleeping on his own. Also, try letting her sleep in the car seat or stroller for a few nights. That may help as well. Good luck! mzmommy2b -
Sunday, 20 April I have some advise, it may work! Try keeping the lights off (leave a night light on at all times at night so you do not have to turn it on when you get up in the middle of the night) and do not talk to the baby AT ALL during night time feedings. Not even a whisper. You can look into the babies eyes to let her know that she is safe instead of talking to her. This way, she will most likely fall right back asleep. missjess -
Friday, 11 April i was having i think false contractions this morning, which is weird cuz usually its at night. But all morning i feltthem, it was like kinda hurting, period cramps. NOthing too bad though. Im like, its not the real thing cuz if it was id be hurting alot more. So even though i woke up like 20 times i just kept going back to sleep. Yeah, i guess if your in no rush id rather not induce, but then ur risking the baby getting big! But forme, i dont wanna wait cuz i only have like exactly 6 weeks until i have to be back at work. I just wish he would come on his own! missjess -
Friday, 11 April that sounds about like where i am at this point.I was really upset yesterday that i was only in between 1 1/2 and 2 cent. barely , when last friday i was 1 1/2 cent. But i didnt think about the fact that my appoint are alwasy on fridays and this week it was on a wed., 2 days earlier. I think had i gone in tommorrow i would probly be at 2. But thats still not much progress. :( i was sposed to be induced next friday, but that day is NOT gonna work for me cuz my bf might miss the birth if we do it that day. So my doc is in the process of finding me another doc to induce me sooner like wed. I just wish baby would come on his own before then! Lets hope we go into labor soon! missjess -
Thursday, 10 April i had my appoint yesterday. No progress from last week, im so disappointed. :( Theyre gonna schedule me for an induction a week after my due date. missjess -
Wednesday, 9 April my due date is the 11th too. I was 1 1/2 dilated 70-80% effaced last friday. I have an another appoint tomm. Let me know if you have any progress after your appoint today! natalie75 -

Wednesday, 12 Mar hey, i know that heating up plastic produces xenoestrogens and other cancer causeing chemical reations, i would definatly not use them, even though they are easier, ...just my own take but have done lots of reading up on it,,just google it :)

Wednesday, 12 Mar I think I may have sterilized bottles with just boiling water with my first, but I know for sure I've not done it with the others. I plan on just throwing them in the dishwasher if we use any. (I'm planning on nursing this time...didn't before.) I always just washed them with plain old dish soap, water, and a bottle brush before because we never had a dishwasher before. My cousin has preemie twins, and I know she just uses the dishwasher. I never even warmed up my kids' bottles when I went to feed them. They just drank cold formula and did perfectly fine with that. Good luck! MelisaK -

Tuesday, 12 Feb thank you! i cant wait to give it a try my back is killing me!! ladobruk -
Friday, 8 Feb It was neat to read how your baby is sitting on joyfulmum’s page because what you describe is exactly how I am feeling mine. She has been on my right side the entire pregnancy. The movements are always around my belly button and below and to the right down to my hip area. I have an appt on Tues with my Dr. and I plan on asking him how she is laying because I just don’t have a clue. I know he will ask why I care, I just do, curious what is poking me where!
I also get a lot of cervix action, lot’s of pokes and jabs downwards…very weird feeling!
Hope your feeling good!
