Hello! I am Danielle and I am 24 yrs old. My husband and I were married Jan 12 2008 after being together since May 1 2002. He is my best friend and soul mate. We wanted to start a family right away after we were married. We tried for three months and BOOM! it happened!!! We didn't want to try too hard in March because we knew it would be a Christmas baby and that wouldn't be fair on a child. but, that was the time it happened. I found out by having weird signs over a weekend and went to work on a monday and I just knew.
Over the weekend, I took 3 pregnancy tests and all came back faintly positve, so my husband wasn't convinced! so Monday I called him from work and told him I was going to go to the local hospital to get a pregnancy blood test and asked him how he wanted to know. He said I could call him if I wanted to. So at lunch I went, and an hour later I called and found out it was positive! I tried calling my husband for 30 minutes and it kept going to voicemail (no signal- works out in desert on gov. base). I called all his co workers out in the field and still, no answer. finally I got a hold of him and told him he was going to be a daddy. He couldn't really speak. He was so nervous, he couldn't really talk to me for 2 weeks. Now he is so excited!
We found out we were having a girl on July 18!!! On a routine U/S on Aug 1, we found out my cervix was funneling and was down to 1cm and I was 1 cm dilated. We went to hospital to get a cerclage put in by advice from my OB, but I was given many different opinions from doctors. I had to stay overnight for observation. My husband was there by my side the whole time. I let him go home to be with our dogs around 11pm. than night we decided on the cerclage to be put in the next morning. My husband showed up and I talked to another dr and more nurses and the anesthisiologist. The dr said he would not want to do the cerclage, rather put me on nifedipine for contractions every 6 hours and progesterone shots once a week. I never had a contraction in the first place though, and the medicine gave me horrible headaches.
We were sent home that night around 10pm with prescriptions. I was on bedrest all day Sunday then back to hospital for check up on Monday. I went in and had a vaginal U/S that showed my cervix only had 6mm left. there was no other choice but to have the cerclage. I talked to another dr, Dr. Draper that said he loved doing cerclages and highly recommended it in my situation. I was afraid of the risks to my baby- 1) bag of water could rupture and cause delivery of baby- she couldn't survive 2) infection up to 48 hours after placement of cerclage due to the act of putting the cerclage in 3) and hemorraging.
I was wheeled into the OR and was prepped for the spinal block. The numbing shots did nothing. The big long needle going into my back killed. I had shots of pain down my right leg and I kept telling the anesthesiologist I could feel it on the right. Not by the spine at all. I kept on getting numbing medicine and he would try again. I was crying so hard I was snotting all over the poor nurse holding me up. Finally I felt a warmth go down my legs and it was done! now for the rest of it....
Cerclage was put in and it took about 30 minutes. success!!! No rupturing of membranes or too much bleeding. Since then I have made it 6 weeks of no complications. I am on bedrest and I have appts with my OB every week. Dr. Langer is a wonderful dr. I am so blessed to be this far along and I couldn't have done it without her push for the cerclage. She did admit to me she was frustrated that I didn't get it put in Friday or Saturday, but she understood why.
My husband has been very supportive and helps with anything he can. He now does the cleaning and laundry. I couldn't ask for more. My aunt takes me to my appts every week. I love having that time with her. Every time I feel Kenzie move, I know it was all worth it. I rely on her movements to let me know she is ok. We hope to get to 37 weeks without any contractions or dilation. so far, so good! The cerclage will be removed at 37 weeks before any real labor starts so my cervix doesn't get ruined and makes the next pregnancy more difficult.
So there's my story. I should have done a blog! Thank you to all for your support and kind wishes.
