ABOUT ME:

My name is Dawn and I am in my late 20's. I live in Pennsylvania with my husband, Rob. We met in college and started out as friends. We went from best friends to being engaged and have been married for over 5 years. We own a beautiful home. I quit my full time job as a Production Control Clerk to stay at home with my son.

THE PREGNANCY:

I woke up one Saturday morning in March 2007 and decided to take a pregnancy test. I didn't expect anything of it but to my surprise there were 2 lines on the stick. When Rob came home from work I waited for him to get a shower before telling him. Even though we had been trying he was in complete shock. I ended up taking 2 more tests just to convince myself that it was real. The 9 months of pregnancy went well. I had not experienced any morning sickness. During the first trimester I had a lot of food cravings. During the last trimester I couldn't see my feet, was tired all the time and was ready to pop this baby out. All in all it was a great pregnancy.

THE BIRTH STORY:

My due date was November 23, 2007 and after spending the day decorating for Christmas with my husband it was time to go to bed. I had a feeling I was going to have to wait a long time before this baby decided to show up but to my surprise I woke up in the middle of the night feeling some pain that didn't last very long. It happened again shortly after. When I felt the third one I knew it was a contraction so I got out of bed. I looked at the clock that read 3:00 am. I went into the bathroom and with another contraction I felt a little water drip down my leg. I went downstairs and sat on the couch so I could start timing the contractions. They went from 20 minutes to 5 minutes apart really quickly. I called the doctor's office and the operator that answered put me on hold as she called my doctor. When she got back on the phone she told me to head to the hospital. I woke my husband and we drove to the hospital. We got there around 4 am but the doctor didn't come in and check me until 6 am. I was about 3/4 cm dilated and he told the nurse to admit me. Rob called my parents and his family. My parents quickly came and sat with us the entire day. It took a few hours before they admitted me into a room. Once my contractions started coming more frequently I asked for an epidural. After I received my epidural the doctor broke my water. The contractions became more intense and when I couldn't stand it anymore I told the doctor. She checked and I was at 10 cm. She called the other doctor and they had me start pushing. I pushed for 3 hours. Finally the doctor said the baby wasn't moving down and I had to have a c-section. I wasn't scared about the c-section because both my sisters had them done and they said they were great. So I went into the Operating Room with confidence. They numbed me up and before long I could hear the cries of my baby boy. They called Rob over to cut the umbilical cord so he got to see the baby first. Then one of the doctor's brought the baby over to me and once I started talking to him he opened his eyes and looked at me as if he already knew who I was. I will never forget that moment.
