UPDATE (6/1/08) Life is GREAT! For those of you that are preggo and alone right now...let me tell you things will get better!
Elijah is doing fantastic. His father takes him almost every weekend and they are inseparable. I bought a brand new car for mother's day and just moved into a 1-bedroom with my son. I'm going back to school come fall 2008.
UPDATE ( 4 /28/08): Well, things are still getting better! His father and I are starting to get along, and he is helping with clothes, daycare, etc. For now he just visits with Elijah, but when the baby gets a little older he will start taking him on weekends. Elijah's father and his family are absolutely in love with him.
Elijah at almost 3 months old:

Elijah is doing wonderfully--he is currently 17.5 lbs and almost 27 inches--he is ENORMOUS but according to his dr his height and weight are proportional so I have nothing to be worried about. Meanwhile , his very first tooth is coming in! He has been in pain but overall is coping wonderfully. Also, due to his large size his dr has reccomended that he start solid foods---so Elijah now, at 2.5 months old, eats apples and bannanas and LOVES it!
Sorry it took so long to update--my computer was broken! Hope all of you are doing well!
UPDATE (3/20/08): Life is going great! I got a new job, new place....and i'm oh-so-happy! Filed for child support at the end of February. I won't get it for a while because the deadbeat is in another state, but its all good! I've been back at work since Eli was 4 weeks old, and I love the new job. He goes to this wonderful daycare lady while I'm working. I've been back to my normal size since almost immediately after Eli was born, thank goodness! Elijah is huge, at his 6 week checkup he was almost 14 lbs. Below are some pics of my sweetheart at about 6 weeks old. He is ALWAYS smiling! Oh yeah and he can wave bye-bye, no joke! If you wave to him, he will wave back. Nobody believes it until they actually see it because he is so little, but its true!

Me when I was 38 weeks Pregnant with Elijah:

*ABOUT ME*

My name is Katie. I'm a rising Junior at an ivy league school, though I took this academic year (07-08) off to have my beautiful son. My major is Communications, I want to become a researcher for Children's Television programming.
I am a single mom. However, I am so happy and proud to say that we are doing WONDERFULLY! God has blessed me with a loving family that has my back no matter what.
My son is the best thing that has ever happened to me, and I can sincerely say that this is the happiest I have been in my entire life.
Good luck to all the new mamas and mamas-to-be!

Baby Elijah was born 1/29/08 at a whopping 9 lbs, 8.7 oz, 20.9 inches!

Holding the bottle by himself at just 1 week old (I am both bottle and breastfeeding)
I am so in love...

*BIRTH STORY*
On Monday, January 28th, 2008 I was scheduled for an induction at 9:00pm. The plan was to do cervadil to warm things up, and then to do the pitocin 12 hours later to get things going. My midwife decided to see if my body responded w/ contractions to the cervadil within 2 hours of it being applied, and said that after that we would go from there. Well, 2 hours went by and my contractions were still mild to nonexistent. I sent my doula home and was getting ready to send my mom and bestfriend home, figuring I could tell them to come back tomorrow morning after the pitocin was administered.
Well, a little bit after the 2 hour mark I started having relatively painful contractions, and they increased in intensity/frequency pretty steadily for the hours following that. I decided to call my doula and have her come back in. My contractions continued increasing in intensity to the point where my midwife thought it'd be appropriate to remove the cervadil and check my cervix. While she was there, she surprised me by rupturing my membranes! Things got really intense immediately after she broke my water, I thought I was going to die from the pain! I was SCREAMING for an epidural and they told me I had to have 30 minutes of fluid before I could get it. Thank goodness for my bestfriend/mom/doula or I would have totally lost it--my doula did this great massage/breathing technique that got me through the painful contractions. I got my epidural, and it kicked in relatively quickly, though I was still feeling the contractions. Then, I turned to my left side soon after the epidural was administered, so it turned out that the epidural was working okay on my left side and barely working on my right side! I was still in pain! The anethesiologist came in and administered another dosage that not only evened things out but made it so I felt nothing from the waist down. For the next few hours I felt absolutely nothing (whoohoo!). From that point on, I didn't feel any of my contractions, I was completely numb--I couldn't feel my legs at all. Around 4 am my midwife came in to check my cervix and much to my shock, she told me it was time to start pushing. The pushing was alot of work, although it was overall not particularly painful and was virtually nothing in comparison to the painful contractions from earlier in my labor. However, it was exhausting!
At 5:51 on Tuesday morning, I finally pushed Elijah Maxwell into the world. Ultrasound/Midwife had predicted that at birth Elijah would be between 7.5 and 8.5 pounds. But, much to my amazement my son was born at 9 pounds, 8.7 ounces! He was 20.9 inches long, and is absolutely perfect. When he came out he had some trouble breathing and was a little purple, but they spent some time working on him and he is doing wonderfully. I had some painful tearing and discomfort following the birth, but beyond that am recovering just fine. Words cannot express my happiness....I am so in love!

Above is me at 35 weeks preggo.
