I was having irregular contractions, but for the most part they were 5 minutes apart, and some were very painful. So my husband and I went to the hospital to get a morphine shot for pain relief. I thought they were going to send me home; I was only dilated to two centimeters. But the doctor said that we could stay the night if I wanted because the intensity of the contractions. So we decided to stay the night, and because of the morphine my contractions slowed down, and were 10 minutes apart. The nightshift nurse said I would probably be sent home in the morning.
I was completely shocked when I was awoken at 8:30AM by a doctor, a student doctor, and a nurse telling me to open my legs to do internal exams. First the Doctor did and then the student doctor did and said I was 6 centimeters dilated. They were so fast I had no Idea what the hell was going on!
Meanwhile the nurse was scolding me to calm down and relax, as the student doctor held out a large long stick with a hook on the end saying “so do I stick this in and turn it?” They were about to break my water and hadn’t explained it to me or given me an option or anything! Finally my husband who was as confused as I was said she hasn’t been told what is going on. So the nurse explained to me that they were going to break my water bag of water on my next contraction.
They broke my water, and standing by next was a doctor to give me an epidural. I could barely feel the epidural. I was attached to all these monitors and they were saying that I was having contractions but I couldn’t feel them at all. It was actually pretty nice because I was able to have a sleep for a few hours. I woke up at 11:30AM when they were doing another internal. They said I was 10cm and started getting everything ready for the pushing part. I did a few big pushes, but because of the position of the baby, they decided to wait and see if the baby would change positions. They had me get on my hands and knees to see if the baby would turn.
Finally around 3:00 we started pushing again and I had her at 3:30PM. I couldn’t feel a thing because of the epidural, and ended up with what they called a 3rd degree tare.
Now we are happily at home trying just trying to recover and settle down(:
