Hello, my name is Becky and this is my first time experiencing the joyful experience of pregnancy. So far, I have to say, it has been better than I thought. I haven't really had any pains, discomforts, or complications and so far he has been a healthy boy. So far so good, but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed. You never know what complications you can get at the last minute.

I was lucky to not experience morning sickness. I think for a month, I would feel nauseated at the smell of certain foods, but would never throw up. Lately, the only things that I could say are bothersome are the tips of my fingers have become rather itchy with bumps. As each day passes, I think another finger gets a small bump. Nothing too extreme though. Also, lately I haven't been able to eat as much. I get full really fast and get a stomach ache if I don't stop myself. I know they say that this is common and that you have to stop eating 3 full meals and start eating small portions throughout the day. I've just started doing this and it's working really well for my belly.

I have a shower coming up on March 29th. I have to say that I was a bit worried at first, but slowly my nerves are calming down. I guess I'm just worried that we won't have everything we need or not a lot of people will make it to the shower. I don't know, but I'm trying to look deeper on the bright side. I'm sure everyone will have fun and I'll be suprised at how successful it was. :) If anyone has any baby shower tips, feel free to send them my way. :) Have a good day! I have to get back to work....

March 21, 2008

For the longest time I have been reading the horrors of pregnancy and labor. There has been very little positive feedback that I have received from people about the entire experience. I think the only thing everyone has agreed on is that it was all worth it when it comes time to wrap your arms around the baby for the first time and look into its eyes. I'm sure there is so much love and emotion just in that one moment. I have yet to find out because I'm still feeling my baby kick in my tummy...and he has 2 more months to go. :)

Today, I've come to realize that I shouldn't be so frightened about the entire procedure of labor and birth. Every woman I have spoken to has had a different experience. There have been some women who say that it wasn't as bad as they had seen in movies. While others say it was the worst pain they have experienced in their entire life.

So far I haven't really had much to complain about my pregnancy. I didn't have morning sickness at all (Thank God for that). There haven't been any complications. Everything, so far, has come back normal and healthy. I'm going on month 8 soon and I've gained 7 pounds so far (despite the fact that I was overweight at the start of my pregnancy). I've been able to sleep well majority of the nights. There never has been any type of pain or discomfort to keep me awake (nothing a little toss and turn couldn't fix). I was very excited to see what I would crave, but still have yet to crave any type of food or drink. :( My sciatic nerve has been under some pressure, but nothing too strenuous. The only thing that I seem to be fighting right now is exhaustion. It's so hard...40 hours a week seems so difficult now. Once I get to work, I'm struggling to stay awake and make it until the end of the day. I take it back, waking up to go to work...WoW! I don't think I've fought that much with myself before. I hope that this means I will have a quick and smooth labor....LOL!!! I'm sure it will be opposite, but maybe wishful thinking will help. :)

The pain is what I am worried about. I know many people have recommended the Epidural, but I refuse to take that. It's against tradition...let's just say. Or I can be honest and say that I'm just a competitive person and it runs in the family. LOL! I have 3 sisters. They have given me a total of 7 nieces and nephews. No, there weren't any epidurals used!!! One of my sisters is younger than I am and is disabled. I don't want to be the first one to say that I needed an epidural. I also don't want to take any other drugs that are going to be harmful to my baby. So that's why I'm looking for all the information I need to make this decision of taking meds. I don't have my lamaze class until April 12th, so that's when I will find out more about the whole process and preparation of labor. So if anyone has any advice or feedback. It is more than welcomed. Hope you all have a great weekend and thank you for keeping me awake at work. :)

April 4, 2008

My baby shower was last weekend on March 29th. On Friday, I was suppose to be preparing all last minute things, but my allergies kicked in and were physically painful. My eyes were watery and extremely itchy. I could not stop itching. My nose kept blowing like a foghorn. I started crying because I thought my shower was going to be ruined because I was sick. I called my OB doctor and they said that I had to go see a regular doctor. So I was able to get sqeezed into this new doctor and all she said was that it was allergies. She prescribed me anti-biotics, but couldn't really do much more because of my prenancy. She said it was that time of year and everyone was sick with allergies. She told me that I could use visine for my eyes. The anti-biotics didn't do a lot of help. Right now I am still itching my eyes and my nose is like a faucet that just won't drain. :( So if anyone has a solution, by all means...please help me.

Okay, back to the shower. Shower was starting the next day, boyfriend woke up and said he wasn't feeling well. I wasn't feeling well either, but I told him he had to get up because there was a lot that needed to get done. He didn't move and so I got mad and said, "Fine, I'll go back to bed and not worry about the shower." So I finally went to the room and laid back down. My best friend was also already here and he said he was going to the pool to get a tan. I told him he could stay there as long as he wanted. I ended up going back to bed and woke up when my phone rang. It was the delivery guy who was delivering tables and chairs for the event. So I get up and I tell my honey (who I'm mad at) that the delivery guy was here and to meet him downstairs. So he gets everything and we start setting up. Meanwhile, I look around and see that he had already went to go get ice and he picked up the cake. So I began decorating.

Finally, done decorating. I finally decide to go and shower. Oh and I'm not happy because I don't have anything to wear. Luckily, my sister-in-law was a life saver and picked up something on the way. It was beautiful! :) It went perfect with the occassion. Nice blue maternity shirt! While I'm in the shower one of my friends from college shows up. So I come out and a couple people are already here and I still have an hour before it starts. So there are still things that need to get done and I starting feeling stressed out. I begin crying in the bathroom and my honey comes in to calm me down. Then I run to pick up the balloons and some icecream.

People start showing up with gifts. :) All of my college friends show and some of my honey's family shows and it begins. Yay! The shower lasted about 6 hours. I was so tired and my feet were aching by the end. I was ready to just sleep, but all the gifts needed to be put away. I was so happy to just receive gifts and have everyone be there. My family was missing, but some of them sent me gifts. :) Overall, I have to say it was a success. We still need some stuff, but slowly we will be purchasing them. :) I know it will all work out. I can't believe that I can already say that my baby is due next month. How crazy, but exciting!!! :)

April 28, 2008

So this past weekend we made a trip out to Cassadaga, FL so that we can get a reading from a psychic and just see what all was out there. I had heard a lot of good things about the area that made me curious to go myself. Well, my main purpose wasn't for me, but for my hubby to see if he could get some clarity to fill a void he has had for a while. He had a great experience and got exactly what he was searching for, if not more. I think he walked out a lot more confident and secure. :) However, there were some things said about me in the reading that he shared with me on the way home. It kind of made me feel left out not knowing all the details, but mostly it was just things to watch out for.

Well, for one...I had two psychics tell me that my baby was going to come early. The first one said that he would be here 2 weeks earlier. The second one said that he would come early in order not to be a gemini, which means he will be here on or before May 21st. This was good news and hope that it is true.

My hubby's psychic told him to protect me from myself after I have the baby because I was going to have extreme Postpartum Depression. You know, I didn't even think about that at all before yesterday. I didn't see that as being an issue or being in that category. Now I'm worried. I don't want to be miserable and depressed. :( Hopefully, she is wrong. Another thing she said was that I was going to be very protective of my baby to the point that I don't want people touching him. Well, I don't think I'll be that way, but I could see why she would say that. I'm not going to want everyone touching my baby all of the time and I am going to need some space in the beginning.

Anywho, enough about that. I am 35 weeks already. I can't believe it. Not much further to go, but I can't seem to grasp the reality of how close it really is. I mean, I know it's not too far, but it still seems far away.

awee, thank you, i know i felt like that too-- i wanted to read as much as possible about ppl's birth stories bc i just didnt know what to expect! Everyone is different tho and I can imagine ways in which mine could have been much more difficult (bigger head, me having a narrow pelvis, what ever). The thing is by the time you are ready to push youre just so excited to see him you dont give a damn about anything but getting him out! You're almost there tho!!! :)

sherrybabydean - Tuesday, 6 May

Hi, just wanted to say, mine is pretty detailed....its not very interesting but its detailed! ;) happy reading

Your welcome!
It all depends on a person's pain tolerance! I have high pain tolerance so therefore i just took all the pain in. They say that the epi sometime prolongs labor, I did not want it because I knew I was stronger than letting someone drug me up, I knew that the needle that they used was long as hell and i was scared of that.

My labor started about 11am on my due date (4-10-07) and i went into the hospital and of course they sent me home... My midwife said just to come in the next morning to be induced! i was soo happy.
We went in and they hooked me up to antibotics since i tested positive for the group strep B thing. My midwife then started my pitocin at 1 and didn't break my water till 4:00. I progressed very little since that morning.... I thought geez this is going to take all night but believe it or not I had him at 11:45 that evening. (My birth story is posted under the children's tab.)
Suggestions for labor:
1.) Stay calm.. just breathe through the contractions.
2.) Watch t.v. or listen to music
3.) Just remember that the pain is temporary and when your child is born.. IT ALL GOES AWAY!!
I just stayed calm and tried to keep my cool during the contractions..
Hope this helps.. I look forward to seeing how you made out once your child is here!!
Good Luck!

I am from week 39 and still working, and I am doing great with it. Some days I need a nap, but other than that all is well! I think it makes the pregnancy go by A LOT faster! I would be going crazy sitting at home I think!

MILMOM2BE - Wednesday, 23 April
I'm still working, and it is hard getting going everyday, but it keeps me sane. I think the days would feel that much longer waiting for baby if I was at home. Not that the idea of sleeping in and lazing around the house doesn't sound nice to me, but it is possible to work this late and that is what you wanted to know! Some days I don't think I can do it any more, but I always manage to get thru!

newmommy2be - Wednesday, 23 April
Hello! I am from week 39 also. I worked until my 37th week and they gave me the option to stay or go. I chose to go. These last two weeks have been my only time to make sure I have everything ready to go. From finishing touches on the nursery to just, resting and preparing myself mentally. My energy level is actually quite well. I get spurts every now and then, but I still nap whenever I feel like I need to. Well, good luck to you!!

first-time-mommy-to-b - Tuesday, 22 April
Hi! I am from week 39 and saw your post...I am still working and plan on working until I deliver (which isn't looking like anytime soon). My energy levels are great, I work full time and when I get home I still have the energy to get some cleaning done, cook dinner and I walk 2 miles in the evenings. Actually this 3rd trimester has been wonderful for me aside from all the anticipation and much better than the other two. I would say it is possible...BUT everyone is different. Just see how you feel and go with it!! Good Luck! You are getting close! :)

kelsul - Tuesday, 22 April
with my 1st i worked right up until a week before my due date. i thought it would be nice to stay home for a week with no stress and it was so worth it. i lucked out too and had her right on her due date. but this pregnancy has been very painful and difficult. so i have been out of work since feb 1st. just go with your instincts :) good luck!

OakleesMommy - Tuesday, 22 April
I am still working and I am due on friday, I am actually working on my due date! I think it depends on your line of work, I sit at a computer all day, so it just depends on the day... this past week my back has been killing me so bad I have been in tears! My feet are very swollen but other then that I have energy! Luckily I am allowed to leave after working only 2 hours everyday lol! I just want as much leave time as possible!

jujubee - Tuesday, 22 April
Hi, my due date is friday, I feel great, no swollen feet, no nothing. This morning I cleaned all the windows and just got back from a walk. I could totally be working, but I'm just lazy and quit at 7 months! ;-)

mbyrd27 - Tuesday, 22 April
Hi there! I am due on Sunday and Thursday is my last day of work. I was going to work up until the day I had her, but I am totally exhausted. When you get to this point you can't sleep and you are physically and mentally exhausted from everything. Everyone kept telling me that I needed to take at least a week or 2 off before I have her, but I didn't think I would need it. BOY WAS I WRONG! I cry everytime I get up in the morning. Good luck to you! I hope you are feeling well!

agummybear - Monday, 14 April
Thanks for your comment. I'm sure he's just freaking out. It new for both of us. It's hard to prepare for the unknown!

bdubb - Friday, 11 April
thanks for the advice on my mom. I am going to talk to her. I shouldn't make assumptions - sometimes being pregnant makes you do that though. She may totally understand that she won't be able to be as involved as she would like and may be cool with it. It is going to be awkard to bring it up but I bet I will feel better. Have a great weekend.

HollieNJax - Friday, 11 April
With my first son, they gave me Stadol thru the IV and I really think I could have delivered with just that but I went on and got an epidural. The 2nd time I just had the epidural. Usually the doctor and/or hospital will have a protocol that they follow (things that do or meds that they give under the same general circumstances). I would talk to your doctor about what kind of medication he prefers and what effect you are looking for. The epidural was nice to me because it numbed me from mid spine down and I didn't feel the pain from the contractions and only a little pressure from actual delivery. The Stadol on the other hand had me pretty loopy....I couldn't stop laughing. I would rather have the pain relief with no loopiness.

dancinmama - Friday, 11 April
I have been referred to a urologist due to blood in my urine before. It was shortly after I had my second baby. All of my cultures kept coming back positive for blood but negative for bacteria. After several months of that they referred me to a specialist. The one sample I left there at his office came back clean, of course! Now with this pregnancy I've had three or four samples turn up pos. for blood again, but I don't have a UTI. They didn't seem concerned about it and said I'd just need to be checked after I delivered. I wouldn't worry - the urologist said that sometimes you can just have blood show up from an irritated bladder or urethra (sorry if this is TMI)...if pregnancy doesn't irritate a bladder I don't know what would! I hope it all goes well for you!

MommyJewels - Friday, 11 April
 Cute:)

MommyJewels - Friday, 11 April
Oh well that must have been uncomfortable. He should have explained things better to you. I dunno you could have a UTI....although they could have told you that from your urine test...mmm. Maybe they are just being careful to check. Kidney stones they say are worse than labor. I have had MANY. But I have also passed many without even knowing. I just hope that your U/S goes well and the urologist is very nice.

How many doctors are in your practice? We have three in ours...but I have had appointments with all of them because you never know who will be oncall when you go into labor!

Mommyjewels - Thursday, 10 April
I would call back your doctor and ask WHY. You are paying for their services and don't be afraid to ask questions. You might have an kidney infection or possible stones.

HollieNJax - Thursday, 10 April
I read your post about the negative comments on labor and stuff. I don't know why people say such scary things to a new mom. It doesn't make any sense to me. I am 24 also but this is my third and I have nothing but good things to say. Yes, you will feel a bit unpleasant at times but you are young and have had an uneventful pregnancy and labor and delivery should be a breeze. I don't know what your plans are but as a nurse and as someone that has done this twice before....get the drugs!! It helps so much and 99% of the time there are no complications to you or your baby. I'm sure all will go well. We are due the same day, too. I think my profile says June 1st but the doc changed it to the 31st of May. Anytime in May will work for me. I am so tired of being pregnant.

HollieNJax - Thursday, 10 April
It's probably nothing to get too upset about...maybe a bladder or kidney infection or an UTI. I'm not sure why he would want you to go to a urologist maybe just because he specializes in pregnancies and babies not bladders. I'm hope everything goes well.

meekiepoo72 - Friday, 4 April
