Message to all This may be interesting to some of you. Seema`s email is seema.modhvadia@rdftelevision.com

Hi there,

I work for a television production company based in the UK . We are currently making a documentary for ITV1 exploring the issues surrounding pregnancy and eating disorders. The film will be a thoughtful and insightful look into this extremely sensitive subject.

We’re in the research stage of our production and very keen to chat to women who are, or have been, pregnant whilst having an eating disorder.

If you’re interested in having a chat or finding out more about our documentary, it would be really great to hear from you. All communication would be in complete confidence.

You can contact me on: seema.modhvadia@rdftelevision.com

Don't be too alarmed with your doctor... expect the fact that you aren't too fond of him. When I go for my 'belly checks,' I give a urine sample, the check blood pressure, measure my belly, and then they check the heart rate with the doplar. I am only there with the doctor for ten minutes tops. I have only had two ultrasounds: one at 9 weeks and one at 21 weeks. I had asked my doctor if I would be having anymore because everyone seems to be getting more on this website from what I read, but she said no, as long as everything is going well they don't see a need for another one. So you seem to be in the same boat as me; I just wanted to give you some relief to your worry. Just think that soon our babies will be here and we will know they are okay!

Hi there! I haven't had any prenatal testing this pregnancy, or my last. I get a heart rate, measurement and urine at each visit, and I still go once a month, not every other week or every week. My midwife is not a CNM, so she can't write for ultrasounds. I had the same with my last pregnancy. With my first, I had 1 ultrasound halfway through to verify dates for the AFP test. I had an OB with her. With my second, I had 3 ultrasounds because I had some early bleeding and a clot behind the placenta. After the third ultrasound when I was cleared, I declined to take the gestational diabetes test, and the OB laughed at me and said I had to have it, so I got rid of her and went to the midwife. FWIW, my oldest daughter, with the OB, with an anatomic ultrasound, has a very slight birth defect that was not detected. She has an underdeveloped nerve above her lip and one side of it is just slightly droopier than the other side. The other 2 kids are completely healthy, rarely sick (except when she brings home bugs from school) and had no birth defects of any kind whatsoever. Babies were born healthy for thousands of years without ultrasounds. Yes, I'd love to have one so I know what I'm having, but honestly, routine ultrasounds have only been commonplace for about the last 20 years or so, if that. It has been proven that babies can hear the vibrations in the sound waves and it does irritate them, which is why they move more during ultrasounds (and Dopplers.) I'd rather not take the chance on something that's become common practice for less years then I've been on this earth (I'm 27, and my mom never had any with me, nor any of my older aunts with my cousins) than risk it harming my baby's hearing or any other effect that repeated ultrasounds might have that have not even been associated yet. Who knows, maybe they'll find out one day that is what is causing increased autism rates, not the vaccinations!

CHASESMOMMY08 - Thursday, 6 Mar
Hi! I have the same problem. My doctor doesnt do much I wait for them for forty minutes then I see the doc for barely ten minutes. I always wondered why it seems everyone else is talking about ultrasounds, and they know the babies size and weight, what position the baby is in, I don't know any of that. My doc said I don't need another ultrasound unless there is a problem, plus people with high risk pregnancies get alot more attention, I am sure we
will be fine(I hope!)

ladobruk - Thursday, 6 Mar
You did not have an ultrasound around 20 weeks? He must really be super old school….time for him to retire, haha. I am pretty sure that is a standard one, any others are not unless there is a reason. Some Dr.’s do them more often, but the 20 week one is the only one that should definitely have happened.

Your next appt should include a swap (in both vagina & anus) for the Strep B bacteria (normal bacteria found in some healthy women). So if he doesn’t offer it up, demand it. It can be very harmful to baby, so it is important you have it and if you test positive they just give you antibiotics during labor.

It really sucks to not only not care for your Dr. but also to not trust him. As long as your belly is growing, your baby is moving and you are feeling good, just take care of yourself and trust all is well with your baby. And look forward to changing Dr.’s for your next pregnancy!
Take care and good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

hello- about your question of what to bring home your baby in- I have heard from a nurse friend of mine that you don't want to pack a onesie because they are tight on their new umbillical cord- you might want to get one of those loose, cotton sleeper sacks with a matching hat- he is going to need a hat- no tight clothes though! You can put a onesie on him if that is all you have but you will have to have him wear it not snapped with the crotch part pulled above his belly button like a t-shirt- hope this helps!

natalie75 - Tuesday, 19 Feb
I have flown when I was 35 weeks with my first. DXepending on the airline you might require a note from your doctor saying it is ok for you to fly. Good luck

roni28 - Monday, 11 Feb
I'm actually having my babyshower at my house. It's pretty big so everyone should be comfortable. Do you want to have it at hall? I can help you find one...

esmer - Wednesday, 6 Feb
Your welcome. Have a GREAT week.

joeymama - Wednesday, 6 Feb
I don't think it's that big of a deal as long as you make sure to throw in your fruits and veggies too.

marina - Monday, 4 Feb
I agree w/everything you said. I don't want that epi either because a)I don't want it getting to the baby (BTW, read up on breastfeeding, the babies might not be able to feed well at first if you get the epi!!) and b) I already have bad lower back pain and don't want to worsen it. If you're hooked up to an IV, your mobility might be affected, so talk to your doctor. First lamaze class is tonight!

I was worried about not leaking last week and not to be weird, but if you squeeze your nipples a little, you might notice it. You should probably be doing this normally w/a monthly breast self-exam...I was also still on a once a month dr's schedule until last week, now we'll go every 3 weeks until the last month and switch to once a week. I also am having the baby naturally. So you're planning on not having any drugs?

joeymama - Monday, 4 Feb
DOn't worry about not leaking, this is my third baby and I never leaked even a little and I breast feed both of the for a year. Everyone is just different.

airmans-princess - Saturday, 2 Feb
Hey have you gone to any of the navy wives websites? Im not sure if the navy has any but I am sure they do.Cause my husband is in the airforce and they have a bulleitin thing where you can find out info like!

esmer - Friday, 1 Feb
Good Luck on finding a place. If I can think of somewhere else, I will let you know.

esmer - Friday, 1 Feb
My mom and my cousin are planning the baby shower, and I think they told me they are going to try and get the Annex building from my church. Since I'm not due till mid May so they are planning for April 5th.
I see that your due about 1 month before me. How exciting.
Have you thought of the Lyndale Senior Center. I don't think it would cost that much like in the $200.00 or $250.00. My friend's son is also having a baby in at the end May and she is thinking of renting the Golf Association Hall off of Horne Rd for her baby shower, but I think that is $475.00.

Coastie06 - Friday, 1 Feb
I went through Coast Guard bootcamp and we weren't able to write for about a week in a half, and weren't able to call untill I think it was the 4 week mark. Stay strong for him!! It sucks being away at boot.

stephandpat7 - Friday, 1 Feb
Not sure about the Navy, my hubby is in the Coast Guard. When he first reported in, it was a little over 2 weeks before getting a letter in the mail, and there were allowed 2 ten minute phone calls at the 4 week mark. (I got one, and his parents got one....then again at that point back in 2002 we weren't even engaged yet) Also, after the first 6 weeks they were given back their cell phones and had certain times of the day where they were allowed to use it. Though with all the stuff they had to do, it was usually only a 5 minute call to say goodnight. Hope your holding up okay. If you need someone to talk to, messgae me :-)

ABCmommy - Friday, 1 Feb
I actually had my shower in oklahoma with the in-laws so I don't know where a good place is around here sorry. Good Luck though!

sarahjanesgirl - Thursday, 31 Jan
Well my parents threw one for me at my Grandpas house so I guess that probably doesnt help you too much. I think most baby showers are just at someones home though
