My Birth Story
On July 24th around 1am I started having mild contractions. They were about 7 minutes apart and lasted about 30 seconds each. I went online and used contractionmaster.com to time my contractions. At 2am they were about 5 minutes apart and were getting a little stronger. My fiancee called me and asked me to pick him up from work because he didn't feel well. On the way home the contractions were getting worse and I had to pull over every time one started. I got to the hospital at 4am and was already 4 centimeters dialated. My back was killing me! I think the worst part of my labor was the back labor. Around 5am I was admitted and had to wait a long hour and a half or so for pain relief. I originally didnt want an epidural. I didn't like the idea of a needle in my back and was uncomfortable with the idea of it. I was in so much pain (mostly from my back) that I didn't even care what was done to me, as long as the pain would go away. Immediately after recieving the epidural I felt relief. I was able to lay down and relax. My contractions were so bad that they were off of the charts. I was able to take a little nap. Around 12:30 I was fully dialated and started pushing between 12:30 and 1pm. The pain in my back was so bad I could still feel it even though the rest of my body was numb. I had to have a "top off" of the epidural 2 or 3 times while I was pushing. During my pregnancy my insurance refused to pay for my prenatal treatment and I ended up going to a clinic. I had residents delivery my baby but a doctors overseeing them. The doctor said that I wasnt pushing hard enough and if I didnt push harder and get the baby out soon she would take him out with a vaccuum because she didnt have all day. I told her I was doing the best I could and that I couldn't feel down there because of the epidural. She told me that was my fault and I should've thought about that before I got it. She then told me that if I didnt push right that she would wait for my epidural to wear off and I would have to do it without any pain medication and have to suffer. I wanted to strangle her. She was the bitchiest doctor I have ever had to deal with. Other than her, my birthing experience was really great. I pushed for about 2 hours until my baby boy was delivered by a resident who had never delivered a baby before. He was really great. He was the only one who stayed with me the entire time I was pushing. My baby boy came out with the cord wrapped around his neck and the doctor had to pull it off of around his neck. I will never forget how i felt seeing him for the first time when they put him on my stomache. I couldn't be any happier!
Week 39:
I went to the doctors yesterday and unfortunately they said the said there are no signs of him coming out yet. Im not dilated, Im not having contractions, and he is still pretty high. They said that he is a big big baby, at least 8 1/2 lbs as of yesterday! I have an appointment next wednesday and if I haven't had him by then Im going to hopefully get induced. I would rather go into labor when it happens, but he is already big enough, my feet, ankles, hands, face and lips are swollen beyond belief and my grandfather is going through radiation treatment on july 23 and i want him to be able to see my little boy before that. When he gets the radiation he is not able to be around babies or pregnant women for 1-3 months.
Now its time to get that baby out!!!
