May 23/07 gave birth to a preemie baby boy. We named him Theo. Now pregnant with #2 and hoping for a healthy full term baby. Wish us luck!
My story:
A few days before May 22/08 I was feeling like changes were happening. I can't describe them. But, since I was on bed rest at the time and a nurse would visit me every few days, I wasn't worried.
When the nurse arrived on the morning of the 22nd, I told her the concerns and she said to talk to the specialist at the next appt. So, I continued to stay on the couch that day and later in the afternoon my hubby called. He called to say he was in the emergency waiting room. He had an accident at work -a piece of rebar steel (35mm thick) flew up and at his face. It opened him up like a lid to a can. Being a CDA I was really concerned about his teeth. But, he reashured me that they were all there.
After I got of the phone and knew he was ok (he didn't want me to come and see him), I started to feel contractions. Not Braxton hicks -but the real thing. I went to take a warm bath (as per the nurses instructions) and found that I started bleeding.
Well, long story short, my girlfriend came to take me to the emergency room. I tried to get ahold of the hubby but, he was getting stiched up at the time. So, by the time I got ahold of him he was on the way out of the emergency door passing me. He went home cleaned up and came right back.
The baby was too early to deliver at this local hospital -no NICU. So, I was transferred to RCH and was oberserved overnight.
The next morning my hubby went to the dentist, and was on the way back when I called him to hurry up. I had been hemoraging all night and I knew that the baby had to come out.
He arrived just after the doctor and while the doc was doing an u/s I had a siezure.
I woke up in extreme pain (placental abruption had happened -complete). They rushed me to the ER -where they weren't even ready. The doc didn't scrub in -no time. The baby was without oxygen and life support. He did a classical incsion and ripped the little blue Theo out.
They revived him and sent me to recovery. Later, the doc came by and told me that I had added grey hair to his beard. He had to get the emergency surgery tray out (the one that sits in the cupboard) to get the baby out. He xrayed me after to see if there were any missing instruments. Usually they count as they go along.
Dr. Ubhi at RCH saved our lives! I don't know what I would have done if he didn't do that u/s at that exact moment and if there were no surgery rooms available.
Theo was 3.1 pounds and I couldn't bring myself to see him until the 24th of May. It was so tramatic -I didn't want to see him so small. But, Im glad I summened the courage to go down when I was ready.
I want this pregancy to be different. You can understand. Im not allowed to go to full term -this type of incision can rupture. So, sometime in December/08 I plan to be a mom for the second time.

I am coping its not easy but def something I have to work on.. I got my braces off today.. its amazing seeing my teeth
