MAISIE PAULINE

Due Date: June 13th, 2008

Born: May 30th, 2008 at 6:34 am

Stats: 7 lbs, 4.9 oz -- 19 3/4 inches

She's a gorgeous girl with a little dark brown hair and blue eyes... she stole mommy and daddy's heart from the first moment we laid eyes on her!

ONE MONTH:

Whew! What a whirlwind month it's been! Maisie is a really good baby and we're so happy she's a part of our family. Dan and I have studied her from top to bottom and have concluded she's perfect. :) She seems to have mom's dark hair, eyes, and toes, and dad's mouth and temperament. Overall she looks a bit more like dad than like mom.

Maisie has pretty much smiled from day one. She's a very happy little baby who, like all newborns, likes to eat, sleep & cuddle with mom and dad! She loves bathtime. She often does the "Popeye-eye,"" which is when she opens one eye first when she wakes up. When she's hungry and I put her over my shoulder, she bobs her head back & forth, like a bird does when they're looking for food. It's so cute! Being a mother is the greatest feeling in the world, and I'm loving every moment of it!

TWO MONTHS:

Maisie is still the cutest little peanut I've ever seen! At her two month checkup she weighed 10 lbs, 5 oz. It's funny because that's about the size they thought she would be when she was born... now she's just reaching that weight at 2 mos of age. It's amazing how wrong the ultrasound technicians were about her size. But since she was such a little peanut when she was born, she definitely looks like she's filling out a lot now. Her little face is a bit pudgier, and her arms and legs have a few little rolls on them. So cute! Her hair is getting just a bit thicker, and she still has beautiful blue eyes.

She's also been interacting with Dan and I more and more each day. She imitates our facial expressions. Dan sticks his tongue out at her and she does it back. I tend to smile at her with my mouth wide open and she smiles the same way back at me. She definitely knows who I am too. She follows me with her eyes when Dan is holding her and I am walking throughout the room. Melts my heart! She also turns her head toward my voice when I walk into a room.

I'm still breastfeeding and enjoying that, even though it is a bit time consuming. I have no idea how I'd do it if I had another child in the home. Speaking of which... I swear I'm already ready to start trying for #2! Dan isn't anywhere near that point, so we'll be probably waiting at least a year. Actually if Dan had his way, Maisie would be an only child. We'll see where life takes us!

THREE MONTHS:

Maisie turned three months on August 30th. I see why people say they grow up way too fast. It seems like just yesterday that she was born. But then I look at pictures of when she was firstborn, as compared to pictures of her now, and I just can't believe how much she is changing. She's still a very happy little girl, and a very calm baby, which we are so very thankful for!

She began reaching for toys and grabbing things several weeks ago. I took her to Iowa to meet her great-grandparents and she laid on their floor and suddenly reached over and grabbed a little toy. She'd been trying for a long time, but that was the first time she was successful. So cute! She loves to bury her little head into my chest when I hold her, which just melts my heart. She hasn't rolled over yet, but she's working on it like a mad woman. If she could just get the upper part of her body to communicate with the lower part, she'd be a rolling machine! :) She was twelve pounds, two ounces as of last week, so she seems to be growing really well.

I started back at work last week, which has been a tough adjustment, but we're getting through it. Maisie is still at home with Dan, so that has helped the transition. I still miss her like crazy when I'm at work, and I hardly put her down between the time I get home and the time she goes to bed! I just love her to pieces.

September 7, 2008 -- Yay for Maisie! I'm such a proud mama... Maisie rolled over for the first time this evening! I had brought her over to my grandmother's and she was laying on the floor, working so hard on rolling over, but she just couldn't figure out what to do with her shoulder. We put her back on the floor after we got home, and she worked and worked at it until finally... she did it! She looked so cute laying there, grunting and tensing her muscles... I am so proud of her!

September 11, 2008 -- Maisie laughed for the first time when I was blowing on her tummy! Sooo cute!

September 15th, 2008 -- Maisie started rolling from her back to her front last week, but today she kept on rolling, and rolled from her front to her back! My little girl is growing so quickly!

FOUR MONTHS:

It’s hard to believe my little girl is already four months old! Maisie continues to grow like a weed and amaze Dan & I every day. At her four month checkup she weighed 13 lbs, 13 oz and was almost 24 inches, which put her at about the 50% for height and weight. She started rolling over last month, and now she’s basically obsessed with being on her stomach. It’s made diaper changes a bit challenging! She’s still smiley as ever and giggles when we play with her. I just can’t wait to come home after work each day to see her. It melts my heart when she gives me that big gummy grin when I walk in the door. Now if only I could get that hair on her head to grow a little… I swear she had more hair on her head when she was born! She’s still adorable with her little cue-ball head. Life is good... J

FIVE MONTHS:
Maisie is still the cutest little peanut I've ever seen. She's a really happy little baby who just goes with the flow. We did our first overnight trip with her a few weeks ago, and she did just great. Hardly made a peep as we toted her around from place to place. She's finally consistently sleeping about 11-12 hours at night, which has made me very happy! She's rolling both directions, and is really good at grabbing things... and of course putting them straight in her mouth once she gets them into her hands.
I'm actually still breastfeeding, though we've had to introduce formula due to my milk supply decreasing since I've been back at work. I think I'm finally burning out on pumping during the day, and will likely just start breastfeeding her in the morning and evening.
Maisie was a flower for Halloween. Truth be told, she wasn't too excited about having a flower hat on her head. But she was a good sport about it anyway, and let Dan & I take her around trick-or-treating. She fell asleep in my arms before I could even get her costume off. Too cute...

November 9th, 2008 - I felt Maisie's first tooth popping through! She's been drooling a lot, but other than that I wouldn't have even known she was teething. She hasn't been any more fussy than usual, or anything like that.
See Maisie in action!

Hi, sweetie! Sorry it's been a while...I am trying hard to keep up with this, email and Facebook! We are going really good. Yes, we are home and fortunately, had very little damage. Nothing inside of the house was...except a vase fell down, maybe from the house shaking?? So, Norah is doing GREAT! I cannot believe she will be 6 months old next month! Where does the time go??? She is rolling over--from front-to-back, to the right side only. She is soo happy and fun! Yes, I am still breastfeeding...exclusively. She is doing well on it, so we'll start cereal and baby foods next month. I have a lot of milk frozen and need to be pumping more often, because in Jan, I am going to see a specialist to try and get pg again. If I have to be put on fertility drugs and stop breastfeeding, then I want there to be enough for her to have some in the mornings and evenings. We'll see. So, how is Maisie?? Norah sends big hugs to her!! Love reading your updates and blogs...you are really on top of it all! I finally updated photos on my page and moved my pg story to a blog!! I'm getting there!! So, check them out and message me when you can! Miss talking with you!

I have also been looking for a bath ring for the tub. I had one for my first daughter 13 years ago. The reason that you can't find them anymore, is that they have been deemed unsafe- most likely from irresponsible parents leaving their kids unattended in the bathtub. Well anyway there is one that you can purchase online at Amazon called the Aquaring. Babies R Us does sell one by Safety 1st, but it has a safety arm that hooks to the side of the tub. I bought this but am taking it back due to its poor design and quality. Hope this helps!

Hello!

It was lovely to hear from you. I am sorry that it has taken such a long time to write back! I have barely had chance to get on to this site to read my messages! In fact yesterday was the first time I actually managed to write a message in over a week.

Things have been a bit chaotic! Last Friday (24th) was Bethan's 9th birthday. We had a party for her and Kate on Saturday at the 10 pin bowling centre, which was good fun. This week has been the school's autumn break and I have been struggling a little bit with all 3 girls at home! I just don't have enough pairs of hands!! Antony took a day's holiday from work today and took the two older girls to the cinema and then for lunch and to do some shopping leaving me with just baby Erin for a bit. Not that it helped with getting anything extra done - it just meant that the two older girls were not so bored stuck at home all day!

Things have been a bit up and down with Erin - on the whole she is fairly settled - we are no way near trying to fix upon any kind of routine, but at least she is feeding well and gaining weight (she put on about 9ozs in just over a week). Yes I am breastfeeding. Erin has taken to it really well - nursing definitely seems much easier 3rd time around than when I had my first. However, she has been quite troubled with wind and she is very sickly. She spits up a lot of milk after each feed and for quite a while after. I don't remember my older two girls being so bad. As she is gaining weight well I am not overly concerned, it is just taking a bit of getting used to. I have to change her clothes frequently as she is sick on everything!

She is sleeping for a stretch of 3-4 hours at night which is lovely, although on the whole she only manages a couple of hours between feeds during the day. Interestingly she is not so sickly at night, so I suspect the cause of the problem may be that she has a tendency to over-feed slightly during the day, but there is no way you can ignore a baby that is screaming to be fed, so I am hoping that she will get better in time as her stomach gets bigger!!

It is nice that you have managed to keep on with nursing Maisie, particularly as you have gone back to work now. With Bethan (my 1st baby) I was still breastfeeding her when she was 14 months. I only fed her in the morning and at night, but it was really nice to still have that bond. I hope that it works out for you to continue with it for a while longer.

Bethan and Kate have been wonderful with Erin. We have been very lucky that there doesn't appear to be any signs of jealousy, even from Kate, the youngest one. I was quite worried before Erin was born that she would feel a bit pushed out, but that doesn't seem to have happened. Both the girls like to help me where they can, although it is difficult for them to do much at the moment. I think that will change as Erin gets older and a bit more interactive. She cries such a lot at the moment that it can be a bit disconcerting (even for us adults). Sometimes Bethan and Kate just don't know what to make of it all!!

When you get a bit of time, drop me a line or two to let me know how things have been going for you. How are you faring at work - are you managing to balance the demands of having a job as well as being a mum? I hope all is well with you and your family?

I had better say goodbye for now as I can hear Erin crying (again! She certainly does that a lot!).
Best wishes, Val xx

knockoutmom - Friday, 24 October
yea i hear that. im going back to 5 days a week in november and im dreading it. thankfully its only part time but its still bad enough. i like the lady i leave her with but i always feel bad when i walk out of the door when i drop her off. today riley smiled at her and while it was cute it also made me a little jealous. i almost felt like i wanted her to smile at me and not her! i know she knows im mommy though because shes finally starting to calm down whenever shes crying in someones elses arms and i take her. thats a GREAT feeling after 4 months of straight crying for me! she is getting a little better though. still needs to be constantly entertained which gets a little in the way sometimes. i always tell her "thank goodness your cute"! haha!

raebabe - Friday, 24 October
We are all doing really great! Eliana is sleeping wonderfully (knock on wood). It's been pretty consistant the last 4 nights so I am hoping this sticks! I enjoy the weekends too! This weekend we have our last wedding this year....which was a grand total of 11 weddings!! It's so ridiculous. We figured we spent at least $600 on just going to weddings this year!!! Yeah, I think I am a better mother if I am working. Although, I miss my girls sooo much during the day :) My eldest is sick with a bad cold...I feel so bad for her :( It seems to be if I am getting good sleep because one baby is sleeping the other one is up all night! God doesn't want me to sleep I guess, oh well! Have a great weekend and we will talk to you soon.

padow - Wednesday, 22 October
Hey! Still not rolling over...but I think she will from back-to-front first. She is soo happy and adorable. R U still b-feeding? Just curious. Things here are good....just catching up on soo many messages! We are getting re-settled here and into a routine. No complaints! Love your pics and updates! U R on the ball!!!! I had to laugh about you worrying about her and the fun it is to change her now that she's more "mobile"!!! What r u thinking about another? Msg when you can!

deerwendy - Tuesday, 21 October
Wow! She looks beautiful like her mommy!!

knockoutmom - Tuesday, 21 October
oh gosh! thankfully he said something about putting her face in the water. i doubt she woulda liked the pool after that one!! haha! i really dont understand men sometimes when it comes to babies. i just dont think they think about things sometimes!!
zach is the only person that can get riley to really laugh and i hate it! i can make her kinda giggle but he gets her all riled up. its cute! i love how much more interactive they are now.
no matter when you stop you've done something awesome for maisie that im sure she will thank you for in the future. breastfeeding was definitly something a lot of us really wanted to do but didnt realize how hard it actually was. thats so awesome you did it this long!! good job!!
yea short hair is great! i love mine but ive had it for so long that i think im gonna grow it out just a little bit and see how it looks. then if i dont like it i can just chop it right back off. that easy!!

raebabe - Monday, 20 October
hahaha! It would be so much easier if I would just stop too. I am really having a hard time with making my mind up. I was going to stop pumping during my lunches starting today and now I don't know if I can. That means that I won't be able to nurse her during the days on the weekends! I am going to miss that....I don't know what to do. Not to mention the cost :( My girlfriend just had a baby 6 weeks ago and she is fed up with the whole thing already too! Convenient my ass, LOL! Well, I wish you luck with your decisions.. I will keep my fingers crossed for the both of us that our little girls keep sleeping like they have. Eliana teases me soo much! She is so inconsistant! Have a great week :)

knockoutmom - Monday, 20 October
shes adorable! and look at how pretty the foliage is. i wish it looked like that here!

knockoutmom - Monday, 20 October
hah! thats so cute! i love your hair!!

knockoutmom - Monday, 20 October
haha!! thats funny. poor little maisie! men do the most ridiculous things. i asked zach to feed her some cereal so i could go take a shower on saturday. so i come out and zach had put like 2 drips of milk in with the cereal so it was extremely thick. it seriously was in a ball covering the spoon. it looked like cookie dough! i was like what the hell?! and to think thats he's been doing when i asked him to feed her the past couple weeks when im at work on saturdays. yikes!
maisie is getting way too cute! is she still a big smiler? thats awesome that from the time she was born she smiled. i wish riley did more often! you really have to work for her happiness. hah!
i hope maisie sleeps 11 hours for you from now on! that would be great for you! hows the breastfeeding? your so good for doing it this long! i remember before i had riley i said i was gonna do it for a year. crazy how things change!

raebabe - Friday, 17 October
Everything is going great here too! We are pretty much in the same boat all across the board, LOL! I don't know how much longer I am going to nurse either. I too am only pumping 3oz which is a huge drop compared to 6-7oz! I figured I made it 4 months that is a great period of time. Eliana was doing so great sleeping through the night up until about a week ago....little shit is right! IT's about 3-4am :( Weight loss for me as tappered off too. I am also at my pre-pregnancy weight but not fitting to compfortably in my clothes! I am taking a step class so hopefully that will tone everything up! Keep in touch :)

knockoutmom - Friday, 17 October
oh by the way, im still doing just one day a week at work. start november im doing friday through monday 5am-whenever im done so that will be great! plus we have her in daycare for 4 hours a day M-F which leaves me tuesday, wednesday, and thursday to have 4 hours of free time. how nice?!
