MAISIE PAULINE

Due Date: June 13th, 2008

Born: May 30th, 2008 at 6:34 am

Stats: 7 lbs, 4.9 oz -- 19 3/4 inches

She's a gorgeous girl with a little dark brown hair and blue eyes... she stole mommy and daddy's heart from the first moment we laid eyes on her!

ONE MONTH:

Whew! What a whirlwind month it's been! Maisie is a really good baby and we're so happy she's a part of our family. Dan and I have studied her from top to bottom and have concluded she's perfect. :) She seems to have mom's dark hair, eyes, and toes, and dad's mouth and temperament. Overall she looks a bit more like dad than like mom.

Maisie has pretty much smiled from day one. She's a very happy little baby who, like all newborns, likes to eat, sleep & cuddle with mom and dad! She loves bathtime. She often does the "Popeye-eye,"" which is when she opens one eye first when she wakes up. When she's hungry and I put her over my shoulder, she bobs her head back & forth, like a bird does when they're looking for food. It's so cute! Being a mother is the greatest feeling in the world, and I'm loving every moment of it!

TWO MONTHS:

Maisie is still the cutest little peanut I've ever seen! At her two month checkup she weighed 10 lbs, 5 oz. It's funny because that's about the size they thought she would be when she was born... now she's just reaching that weight at 2 mos of age. It's amazing how wrong the ultrasound technicians were about her size. But since she was such a little peanut when she was born, she definitely looks like she's filling out a lot now. Her little face is a bit pudgier, and her arms and legs have a few little rolls on them. So cute! Her hair is getting just a bit thicker, and she still has beautiful blue eyes.

She's also been interacting with Dan and I more and more each day. She imitates our facial expressions. Dan sticks his tongue out at her and she does it back. I tend to smile at her with my mouth wide open and she smiles the same way back at me. She definitely knows who I am too. She follows me with her eyes when Dan is holding her and I am walking throughout the room. Melts my heart! She also turns her head toward my voice when I walk into a room.

I'm still breastfeeding and enjoying that, even though it is a bit time consuming. I have no idea how I'd do it if I had another child in the home. Speaking of which... I swear I'm already ready to start trying for #2! Dan isn't anywhere near that point, so we'll be probably waiting at least a year. Actually if Dan had his way, Maisie would be an only child. We'll see where life takes us!

Maisie at two months:

Maisie

THREE MONTHS:

Maisie turned three months on August 30th. I see why people say they grow up way too fast. It seems like just yesterday that she was born. But then I look at pictures of when she was firstborn, as compared to pictures of her now, and I just can't believe how much she is changing. She's still a very happy little girl, and a very calm baby, which we are so very thankful for!

She began reaching for toys and grabbing things several weeks ago. I took her to Iowa to meet her great-grandparents and she laid on their floor and suddenly reached over and grabbed a little toy. She'd been trying for a long time, but that was the first time she was successful. So cute! She loves to bury her little head into my chest when I hold her, which just melts my heart. She hasn't rolled over yet, but she's working on it like a mad woman. If she could just get the upper part of her body to communicate with the lower part, she'd be a rolling machine! :) She was twelve pounds, two ounces as of last week, so she seems to be growing really well.

I started back at work last week, which has been a tough adjustment, but we're getting through it. Maisie is still at home with Dan, so that has helped the transition. I still miss her like crazy when I'm at work, and I hardly put her down between the time I get home and the time she goes to bed! I just love her to pieces.

September 7, 2008 -- Yay for Maisie! I'm such a proud mama... Maisie rolled over for the first time this evening! I had brought her over to my grandmother's and she was laying on the floor, working so hard on rolling over, but she just couldn't figure out what to do with her shoulder. We put her back on the floor after we got home, and she worked and worked at it until finally... she did it! She looked so cute laying there, grunting and tensing her muscles... I am so proud of her!

September 11, 2008 -- Maisie laughed for the first time when I was blowing on her tummy! Sooo cute!

September 15th, 2008 -- Maisie started rolling from her back to her front last week, but today she kept on rolling, and rolled from her front to her back! My little girl is growing so quickly!

FOUR MONTHS:

It’s hard to believe my little girl is already four months old! Maisie continues to grow like a weed and amaze Dan & I every day. At her four month checkup she weighed 13 lbs, 13 oz and was almost 24 inches, which put her at about the 50% for height and weight. She started rolling over last month, and now she’s basically obsessed with being on her stomach. It’s made diaper changes a bit challenging! She’s still smiley as ever and giggles when we play with her. I just can’t wait to come home after work each day to see her. It melts my heart when she gives me that big gummy grin when I walk in the door. Now if only I could get that hair on her head to grow a little… I swear she had more hair on her head when she was born! She’s still adorable with her little cue-ball head. Life is good... J

oh no! shes really that big? id be so excited just to get another u/s. i dont know if they do one or not before you have the baby just to make sure everythings ok. i have absoultly no clue what we're gonna do for daycare when i go back to work in august. my mom is a teachers aid for 2nd grade and wants to go back to school so thats shot. zachs mom hopefully may. i doubt it though because they live about 30-45 min away and she has her nursing job. the thought of it stresses me out so bad. working is getting so hard. life in general is getting hard! sitting right now i have this horrible pain under my right rib. plus i had a really long day at work so im even more tired. i can hardly get out of bed. walking around all day isnt as easy as it once was! my new place is coming around slowly. we finally got a mower from my parents but it broke so we had to borrow one of our neighbors. my parents helped us tidy up the outside so thats looking good now. theres still untouched boxes in the garage and living room though. im hoping this nesting thing comes soon! everyone says i looked like ive dropped even more this week. it really feels like it. sometimes i get these sharp stabbing pains like shes punched an arm out of me! hope im not dialating!

WOW what a great day for shopping lol. Are you feeling better?? I can relate to not taking pills. I am surprised I do as well as I do when it comes to my prenatels. I did also get some meds when I was having migranes, but I stay away from them otherwise. Well also except the fact I have had 3 UTI's and had to get those cleared up. Wow I have some issues...lol :) I am also always so exhausted. Its soooo annoying more than anything. It makes it even worse cause I can't sleep at night. I am ready to kick Dan out of the bed so I can move my fat a$$ around easier. LOL Sorry about the cursing, but thats how I tend to feel a lot of the time :) Its eithor I can't get comfy cause Dan has to sleep right next to me, or sometimes the baby doesn't think it be important to let me sleep. He will kick and kick. We really have such little time left. I will say though that I am ready to have him. I don't want to get any bigger and uncomfortable. So we got what I hope to be our last snowstorm of the year Saturday and Sunday. We got 19" of snow. EWWWW!!! Thats all I have to say about it. A bunch of us were planning on doing some camping after the weekend before being almost 80. It was -8 this morning. Good time :) Well I should get back to work. It would be great to actually get something done today. If I don't hear from you before, I will be thinking of you on Wednesday!!! Have a great day :) Talk to you soon.

preggiebelly - Monday, 21 April
Thank you so much... it was so sweet of you to check in on me. I really appreciate it.
Looks like everything is going well for you still... you're just moving right along!
I'm so happy for you.... only 8 more weeks to go- how wonderful!
Thanks again.... and I'll be checking up on you periodically to see how things are going. Keep in touch!

JillB - Sunday, 20 April
You're welcome :) I can imagine you feeling torn about it. The thought of being able to stay home with your little one for a longer period of time certainly sounds fun at this point, but I am sure once he/she is a few weeks old, you will be glad you passed. And like you said, the thought of taking it again with a 6 week old, umm no thanks.
Things here are good. I am starting to really feel out of sorts. My shortness of breath, having this extra weight, dizziness, lack of sleep, it's just getting really old! It's all normal, my blood pressure is great, so I am not worried about that. I just want to see my little Jacob. I shouldn't complain though with all these other women having their babies early. I am very blessed to still have him in my tummy. And to have hit 32 weeks is wonderful. My doc hasn't given my an estimate about how much they think he will weigh. They don't even talk about stuff like that when I go in, and I don't think they will do another ultrasound as long as everything is fine and they can tell which position he's in. I am okay with that, I guess. My daughter was 7lb.11oz., and I have read boys are normally bigger. So, I may be pushing out an 8 pounder too. Whew!! Maybe I'm not ready for June :) When's your next ultrasound?
And I know how you feel about buying stuff. I am dying to finish up, but I have another shower (work is doing for me) on April 29th. And the people there normally shop off people's registries, so hopefully they will get the rest of what I "need."
Well, I hope the swelling gets better for you. I am doing okay with it. I am still wearing heels to work, so by the end of the day, my feet are puffy, but my ankles are not swollen (YET).
Take care and enjoy your Sunday. Rest, rest, rest!! :)

firsttimemommysf - Sunday, 20 April
Hey- how's the pregnancy going for you? Hasn't time just flown by?!? You are getting so close now!!! It does really seem real, doesn't it, all of a sudden? Maybe the kicking is the start of that, I dunno.

nmck - Saturday, 19 April
Forget the puffy, that is temporary! Congrats on the bar exam!! That is awesome news!

JillB - Saturday, 19 April
CONGRATS ON PASSING!!! That's wonderful news!!! I hope the puffiness gets better. The doc doesn't think it's preeclamsia, does he?

newmamabear - Saturday, 19 April
When is your u/s? Definetly let me know what the outcome is. It's probably just extra fluid. I hear about that happening a lot.

mommi2b - Saturday, 19 April
Hi! Sorry I haven't gotten back to you, been so busy lately - exhausting! lol anyways, I work from home so yes, I will be working after Maddy's born. But I'm going to take at least a month off. Or maybe work p/t until I am able to get on a normal schedule w/ the baby, ya know? I'm a contractor so I basically make my own hours - which is great, especially w/ all this change going on! I know what you mean, though - I would feel the same way if I were you. I wouldn't want anyone really to watch lil Maddy except me - - I wouldn't wanna miss anything, ya know? Does your hubby have to take a leave of absence? Could you maybe stay home instead? I know it's so tough work schedules and a new baby and everything. My hubby's on the road a lot, especially during the summers - that's his busiest time of year...and that's when Maddy's gonna be here! He's gonna take a week or two off when she's born, but we really can't afford for him to take any more time that that off - especially cuz summer time is when he makes most of his money, ya know? Oh well...compromise is what it's all about I guess!....

preciousangels2 - Saturday, 19 April
I know what you mean. I was kind of surprised when my doctor had told me she thought he was going to be about 9lbs. Hopefully after you have your next ultrasound you'll have nothing to worry about! I don't think I get anymore ultrasounds... :(

leesamum - Friday, 18 April
Hey there, I was measuring "big" but totally ignore the "big baby" comment. My doc said it's often extra fluid and not that the baby is too big. I don't like it when doc's use that term. It creates too much fear in the mum (as you probably know) and I don't think doc's should be allowed to even say that! You'll both be fine! Just trust that body of yours.

newmamabear - Friday, 18 April
That's weird! Are any grandparents on the taller side? I'm sure everything will be okay though. Better big than too small. How did your doc find out this info? Mine measures my uterus but hasn't mentioned anything about the baby's weight. It could be extra fluid too. At my appt the other day they told me I gained 7lbs in one month...a total weight gain of 29lbs altogether! Looking at me you would never believe it. And my hubby and I are small too. I'm only 5 feet and he's 5'5' !

preciousangels2 - Friday, 18 April
Are worried that 8lbs would be too big for you to deliver vaginally? I'm 5'4 and my husband is 5'10 so neither of us are very tall either. When I was pregnant with my first, the doc thought he would be between 8 and 9lbs. She was right on the money. He was 8lbs 8oz. Although she wasn't concerned, just letting me know how much she estimated his weight to be. Anyway, hope everything goes well and take care!!!

ll bree ll - Friday, 18 April
at least theyre going to do an ultrasound to check. they wont for me! so i wont know whats gunna pop out of me hah. i was looking at my belly pics earlier today, and man my 20 week belly was massive compared to ones i see on here now. its crazy

ll bree ll - Friday, 18 April
heyy. saw your post. dont worry. ive been measuring 3 weeks ahead for a while. if its not extra fluid, hang in there :P they told me eight to ten pounds if i go full term. doubt ill make it though

preggiebelly - Friday, 18 April
oh... thank you so much. I hope so too. I'm feeling some weird tingly pains today in my uterine area so hopefully I'm ovulating!
We'll find out huh? I'll keep in touch. I hope so much that I'm just as fortunate as you've been. Congrats again.
Now... I have to go seduce my husband. :)
Wish me luck!

newmamabear - Thursday, 17 April
Good luck with your appointment tomorrow. I'm going to try the foil thing TONIGHT! Great idea!

preggiebelly - Thursday, 17 April
Wanted to stop by and see how you're doing.... I'm so happy for you.
Your story gives me sooo much hope. I can't thank you enough for leaving me a message a couple of weeks ago after my m/c. My husband and I are starting to try again ....
and knowing that if I get pregnant before my first period that everything could be perfect is so reassuring. I hope so much to get pregnant right away and be exactly where you are in 31 weeks! You are so blessed and I'm so happy for you.
Thanks again for that comment.... it's helping me get through all of this.

Nursey - Thursday, 17 April
Hi Minneapolis!

Well we have less than 2 months to go now! I'm awake now ever 30 minutes to 1 hour up to pee! It doesn't make for a very energetic day.....what about you?
Make sure you have lots of help at home when you & baby get there. The hormones are goin' wild and you will be beyond tired.....it's good to go over this before you have your baby (ie. chores around the house, etc.). I remember that pre-natal classes really seem to focus on the "hospital/birthing experience" and breastfeeding/nutrition. What they seem to forget about is what the heck to do with yourselves & baby when you get home from the hospital!!!! I cannot believe you only get 12 weeks maternity leave...wow. We are very lucky up here in Canada...we get a full year.
Well take good care, mama.....thanks for the response back!
xxx Nursey

pixiekate - Thursday, 17 April
aww thanks so much.....these fits of worry come in waves; i'm sure everything will turn out for the better. as long as the baby is warm in my arms, i think we'll be just fine no matter where we're living:-). xoxo

KariLynn - Wednesday, 16 April
Hey :) I am sorry to hear that you had a m/c. I guess I was unaware of that. I am sure it is difficult, escpecially with the dd coming up so quickly. I can relate to the hot flashes thing. They are horrible. It was realy warm here on Monday, and while I was working, I couldn't stay cool to save my life it was so horrible. Good times :) You know, when I first got preggo, I never thought it would actually hurt. Boy was I ever wrong. I can't believe how painful it can be sometimes. Do you have that same problem? Last night my baby was wedged up by my ribs and I couldn't get him to move to save my life. I love him, but he was driving my crazy lol. I hope its not a sign of whats to come! Though I know it will be well worth it. Well I should get back to work. I will talk to you soon. I hope you are able to feel somewhat comforted with the 23rd coming up :) I know I can't do much, but if I can do anything just let me know :)

newmamabear - Wednesday, 16 April
me too! We have a cat Gabriel who will be 3 this June, and he is a fiesty one. I'm so nervous about how he'll react to the baby. We've been keeping him out of the baby stuff for the most part. But I know when we leave for work he does what he wants anyway. I've been meaning to play the crying baby sounds for him but keep forgetting. Maybe I'll do that now...

raynbowmami - Wednesday, 16 April
If this class wasn't so hard I'd have been laughing. But before I knew it I had 30 questions left and 30 mintues. I do not want to take this class for a 3rd time. I just want it to be over. Now during my quiz earlier I could laugh. That class is easy. I got 100 on that quiz.

Thanks for trying to make me smile. Preciate cha.
Deb

knockoutmom - Wednesday, 16 April
yea, i bet the hormones dont help with that either. losing a baby is pretty hard. but i believe everything happens for a reason. plus your baby has a little guardian angel watching over him/her! if you carried that baby to term then you wouldnt have this awesome support group on this page! you'd be with a different group of women! i love this group. we've got some crazy characters on here. its so entertaining and informative sometimes! i just still cant get past the idea that were about 32 weeks pregnant. thats the final stretch! i see moms come in and deliver at 34 weeks all the time. a lot of the times theyre healthy and within the weight limit to go to the regular nursery, too. so scary! how long will you wait to go back to work and take the new job? before i knew that this cobra was so expensive i was thinking 3 months for me, but now im probaly down to about 2 months which really isnt too bad. i know it will be hard though. then i think of childcare and how expensive that is! it really makes me understand why people wait to have kids. your post reminded me that i need a breast pump, too. those suckers (haha, literally) can be so expensive! by the way, hows the weather there the past few days? im imagining cold because at night we have gotten down to the upper 20's! thats pretty odd for this time of year for us!

jess84 - Tuesday, 15 April
no problem! like i said the nurses will be the bad guy. Cus even though i wish i had the courage to tell my husbands family off sometimes i know he would get mad at me. And i dont want to be the topic of discussion for them u know? But make it a plan to let the nurses know what you want and they usually follow that. my son was hurt a few months ago and i got sick of my husbands family just walking back anytime to see him so i asked the nurse to only let 1 person in at a time with us. unless WE said different. and the nurses said they totally understand and did what i asked.
