MAISIE PAULINE

Due Date: June 13th, 2008

Born: May 30th, 2008 at 6:34 am

Stats: 7 lbs, 4.9 oz -- 19 3/4 inches

She's a gorgeous girl with a little dark brown hair and blue eyes... she stole mommy and daddy's heart from the first moment we laid eyes on her!

ONE MONTH:

Whew! What a whirlwind month it's been! Maisie is a really good baby and we're so happy she's a part of our family. Dan and I have studied her from top to bottom and have concluded she's perfect. :) She seems to have mom's dark hair, eyes, and toes, and dad's mouth and temperament. Overall she looks a bit more like dad than like mom.

Maisie has pretty much smiled from day one. She's a very happy little baby who, like all newborns, likes to eat, sleep & cuddle with mom and dad! She loves bathtime. She often does the "Popeye-eye,"" which is when she opens one eye first when she wakes up. When she's hungry and I put her over my shoulder, she bobs her head back & forth, like a bird does when they're looking for food. It's so cute! Being a mother is the greatest feeling in the world, and I'm loving every moment of it!

TWO MONTHS:

Maisie is still the cutest little peanut I've ever seen! At her two month checkup she weighed 10 lbs, 5 oz. It's funny because that's about the size they thought she would be when she was born... now she's just reaching that weight at 2 mos of age. It's amazing how wrong the ultrasound technicians were about her size. But since she was such a little peanut when she was born, she definitely looks like she's filling out a lot now. Her little face is a bit pudgier, and her arms and legs have a few little rolls on them. So cute! Her hair is getting just a bit thicker, and she still has beautiful blue eyes.

She's also been interacting with Dan and I more and more each day. She imitates our facial expressions. Dan sticks his tongue out at her and she does it back. I tend to smile at her with my mouth wide open and she smiles the same way back at me. She definitely knows who I am too. She follows me with her eyes when Dan is holding her and I am walking throughout the room. Melts my heart! She also turns her head toward my voice when I walk into a room.

I'm still breastfeeding and enjoying that, even though it is a bit time consuming. I have no idea how I'd do it if I had another child in the home. Speaking of which... I swear I'm already ready to start trying for #2! Dan isn't anywhere near that point, so we'll be probably waiting at least a year. Actually if Dan had his way, Maisie would be an only child. We'll see where life takes us!

Maisie at two months:

Maisie

THREE MONTHS:

Maisie turned three months on August 30th. I see why people say they grow up way too fast. It seems like just yesterday that she was born. But then I look at pictures of when she was firstborn, as compared to pictures of her now, and I just can't believe how much she is changing. She's still a very happy little girl, and a very calm baby, which we are so very thankful for!

She began reaching for toys and grabbing things several weeks ago. I took her to Iowa to meet her great-grandparents and she laid on their floor and suddenly reached over and grabbed a little toy. She'd been trying for a long time, but that was the first time she was successful. So cute! She loves to bury her little head into my chest when I hold her, which just melts my heart. She hasn't rolled over yet, but she's working on it like a mad woman. If she could just get the upper part of her body to communicate with the lower part, she'd be a rolling machine! :) She was twelve pounds, two ounces as of last week, so she seems to be growing really well.

I started back at work last week, which has been a tough adjustment, but we're getting through it. Maisie is still at home with Dan, so that has helped the transition. I still miss her like crazy when I'm at work, and I hardly put her down between the time I get home and the time she goes to bed! I just love her to pieces.

September 7, 2008 -- Yay for Maisie! I'm such a proud mama... Maisie rolled over for the first time this evening! I had brought her over to my grandmother's and she was laying on the floor, working so hard on rolling over, but she just couldn't figure out what to do with her shoulder. We put her back on the floor after we got home, and she worked and worked at it until finally... she did it! She looked so cute laying there, grunting and tensing her muscles... I am so proud of her!

September 11, 2008 -- Maisie laughed for the first time when I was blowing on her tummy! Sooo cute!

September 15th, 2008 -- Maisie started rolling from her back to her front last week, but today she kept on rolling, and rolled from her front to her back! My little girl is growing so quickly!

FOUR MONTHS:

It’s hard to believe my little girl is already four months old! Maisie continues to grow like a weed and amaze Dan & I every day. At her four month checkup she weighed 13 lbs, 13 oz and was almost 24 inches, which put her at about the 50% for height and weight. She started rolling over last month, and now she’s basically obsessed with being on her stomach. It’s made diaper changes a bit challenging! She’s still smiley as ever and giggles when we play with her. I just can’t wait to come home after work each day to see her. It melts my heart when she gives me that big gummy grin when I walk in the door. Now if only I could get that hair on her head to grow a little… I swear she had more hair on her head when she was born! She’s still adorable with her little cue-ball head. Life is good... J

FIVE MONTHS:
Maisie is still the cutest little peanut I've ever seen. She's a really happy little baby who just goes with the flow. We did our first overnight trip with her a few weeks ago, and she did just great. Hardly made a peep as we toted her around from place to place. She's finally consistently sleeping about 11-12 hours at night, which has made me very happy! She's rolling both directions, and is really good at grabbing things... and of course putting them straight in her mouth once she gets them into her hands.
I'm actually still breastfeeding, though we've had to introduce formula due to my milk supply decreasing since I've been back at work. I think I'm finally burning out on pumping during the day, and will likely just start breastfeeding her in the morning and evening.
Maisie was a flower for Halloween. Truth be told, she wasn't too excited about having a flower hat on her head. But she was a good sport about it anyway, and let Dan & I take her around trick-or-treating. She fell asleep in my arms before I could even get her costume off. Too cute...

November 9th, 2008 - I felt Maisie's first tooth popping through! She's been drooling a lot, but other than that I wouldn't have even known she was teething. She hasn't been any more fussy than usual, or anything like that.
See Maisie in action!

Are worried that 8lbs would be too big for you to deliver vaginally? I'm 5'4 and my husband is 5'10 so neither of us are very tall either. When I was pregnant with my first, the doc thought he would be between 8 and 9lbs. She was right on the money. He was 8lbs 8oz. Although she wasn't concerned, just letting me know how much she estimated his weight to be. Anyway, hope everything goes well and take care!!!

preggiebelly - Friday, 18 April
oh... thank you so much. I hope so too. I'm feeling some weird tingly pains today in my uterine area so hopefully I'm ovulating!
We'll find out huh? I'll keep in touch. I hope so much that I'm just as fortunate as you've been. Congrats again.
Now... I have to go seduce my husband. :)
Wish me luck!

newmamabear - Thursday, 17 April
Good luck with your appointment tomorrow. I'm going to try the foil thing TONIGHT! Great idea!

preggiebelly - Thursday, 17 April
Wanted to stop by and see how you're doing.... I'm so happy for you.
Your story gives me sooo much hope. I can't thank you enough for leaving me a message a couple of weeks ago after my m/c. My husband and I are starting to try again ....
and knowing that if I get pregnant before my first period that everything could be perfect is so reassuring. I hope so much to get pregnant right away and be exactly where you are in 31 weeks! You are so blessed and I'm so happy for you.
Thanks again for that comment.... it's helping me get through all of this.

Nursey - Thursday, 17 April
Hi Minneapolis!

Well we have less than 2 months to go now! I'm awake now ever 30 minutes to 1 hour up to pee! It doesn't make for a very energetic day.....what about you?
Make sure you have lots of help at home when you & baby get there. The hormones are goin' wild and you will be beyond tired.....it's good to go over this before you have your baby (ie. chores around the house, etc.). I remember that pre-natal classes really seem to focus on the "hospital/birthing experience" and breastfeeding/nutrition. What they seem to forget about is what the heck to do with yourselves & baby when you get home from the hospital!!!! I cannot believe you only get 12 weeks maternity leave...wow. We are very lucky up here in Canada...we get a full year.
Well take good care, mama.....thanks for the response back!
xxx Nursey

pixiekate - Thursday, 17 April
aww thanks so much.....these fits of worry come in waves; i'm sure everything will turn out for the better. as long as the baby is warm in my arms, i think we'll be just fine no matter where we're living:-). xoxo

KariLynn - Wednesday, 16 April
Hey :) I am sorry to hear that you had a m/c. I guess I was unaware of that. I am sure it is difficult, escpecially with the dd coming up so quickly. I can relate to the hot flashes thing. They are horrible. It was realy warm here on Monday, and while I was working, I couldn't stay cool to save my life it was so horrible. Good times :) You know, when I first got preggo, I never thought it would actually hurt. Boy was I ever wrong. I can't believe how painful it can be sometimes. Do you have that same problem? Last night my baby was wedged up by my ribs and I couldn't get him to move to save my life. I love him, but he was driving my crazy lol. I hope its not a sign of whats to come! Though I know it will be well worth it. Well I should get back to work. I will talk to you soon. I hope you are able to feel somewhat comforted with the 23rd coming up :) I know I can't do much, but if I can do anything just let me know :)

newmamabear - Wednesday, 16 April
me too! We have a cat Gabriel who will be 3 this June, and he is a fiesty one. I'm so nervous about how he'll react to the baby. We've been keeping him out of the baby stuff for the most part. But I know when we leave for work he does what he wants anyway. I've been meaning to play the crying baby sounds for him but keep forgetting. Maybe I'll do that now...

raynbowmami - Wednesday, 16 April
If this class wasn't so hard I'd have been laughing. But before I knew it I had 30 questions left and 30 mintues. I do not want to take this class for a 3rd time. I just want it to be over. Now during my quiz earlier I could laugh. That class is easy. I got 100 on that quiz.

Thanks for trying to make me smile. Preciate cha.
Deb

yea, i bet the hormones dont help with that either. losing a baby is pretty hard. but i believe everything happens for a reason. plus your baby has a little guardian angel watching over him/her! if you carried that baby to term then you wouldnt have this awesome support group on this page! you'd be with a different group of women! i love this group. we've got some crazy characters on here. its so entertaining and informative sometimes! i just still cant get past the idea that were about 32 weeks pregnant. thats the final stretch! i see moms come in and deliver at 34 weeks all the time. a lot of the times theyre healthy and within the weight limit to go to the regular nursery, too. so scary! how long will you wait to go back to work and take the new job? before i knew that this cobra was so expensive i was thinking 3 months for me, but now im probaly down to about 2 months which really isnt too bad. i know it will be hard though. then i think of childcare and how expensive that is! it really makes me understand why people wait to have kids. your post reminded me that i need a breast pump, too. those suckers (haha, literally) can be so expensive! by the way, hows the weather there the past few days? im imagining cold because at night we have gotten down to the upper 20's! thats pretty odd for this time of year for us!

jess84 - Tuesday, 15 April
no problem! like i said the nurses will be the bad guy. Cus even though i wish i had the courage to tell my husbands family off sometimes i know he would get mad at me. And i dont want to be the topic of discussion for them u know? But make it a plan to let the nurses know what you want and they usually follow that. my son was hurt a few months ago and i got sick of my husbands family just walking back anytime to see him so i asked the nurse to only let 1 person in at a time with us. unless WE said different. and the nurses said they totally understand and did what i asked.

knockoutmom - Tuesday, 15 April
$660 a month?? are you serious? thats ridiculous! i guess thats definitly a fib about teachers getting great benifits then. you just made cobra sound not that bad! haha! i use to be a size small before pregnancy as well and now im in a large and still some of my larges feel super tight on me. zach is promising me that i wont get bigger from now til 40 weeks. i love how he's just so sure of that! men are totally clueless sometimes! how much more stuff do you need to buy for the baby? i was reading a pamphlet today and realized that we havent even thought about baby tylenol and gas medicine and bath stuff and just little stuff like that. now i feel like we still need a bunch more! it never ends!

nmck - Tuesday, 15 April
Hey! Why not call them after you have tried breastfeeding? And before they come, ask your labor burse to kick them out after an hour. At my hospital, the nurses say they don't mind being the bad guy. They can come in and say, OK,, mom has had her limit, we need her to rest... and get rid of em! Good luck!

Deveney - Tuesday, 15 April
i'm in the same boat as you with the in-laws and i don't have my family nearby. we're just not going to call anyone until after the baby is born. we should be able to get our bonding time in before anyone gets called and i'm hoping that they won't stay long, but i'm pretty sure i won't have a problem with making them leave if they've been there too long (let's hope!). we already told his mother that she is not staying at our house too. she would end up trying to take over and i really don't want to deal with that! but whatever you decide to do, talk about it now and let your in-laws know now how it's going to be so that they don't end up ruining your first moments with your baby. good luck!

wowwowmomma - Tuesday, 15 April
Hi yikes, I have been screaming like a wild woman at everybody. With this constant pain under my right ribcage I sometimes feel like I will not be able to make it till the end and then to deal with bad school reports, dirty rooms, lazy teens, husband who thinks my big butt is just the cutest and cannot keep his hands to himself, I am loosing it! Other than that I'm just dandy. Hope you are too. Can't wait for little one to arrive. Good luck to you and keep in touch.

christelle - Tuesday, 15 April
Hi! Saw your week 31 comment and thought I'd let you know that I worry about the same thing. Not that my inlaws are super intrusive, but they are the only ones who live close, my family is a continent away and I don't have to worry about them. Talk to your DH about how you feel and see how he feels too. You've carried that baby around for nine months and deserve your bonding time and I'm sure DH will not only agree, but want his bonding time with your both too. Since you never know what time the baby will be born, it's hard to know in advance when to call the inlaws. My DH will not call til the baby is born and of course he won't jump out of the delivery room to call before having his own bonding time either so, I figure we'll have enough time- no one waiting outside so to speak. Since everyone works too, probably visitors will come in the evening. If its a late night birth, DH will probably ask for visitors to take that into consideration. You kind of have to play it by ear and trust your Dh and talk to him I think. Good luck though :) I'm on a high from coming back from a great doc appoint. - all is going smoothly, and the nurse showed us a baby who is just a month old that was there for a checkup (he slept the whole time)- sooooo cute!!! I'm so excited!

jillb - Tuesday, 15 April
Yes, I definitely think girl, but you know how that goes. It's not long though, and I am so excited! I just can't believe we are a few weeks away. It's insane! My swollen ankles/feet/legs are better, but I still can't be on my feet too long before I start feeling it. It's so annoying not to be your "normal 'ol self" but DEFINITELY worth it. We got our car seat/stroller today, and it's awesome. After my husband put it together, I was thinking, "we are going to have a little boy to put in there soon. Whoah!" Our daughter, 4 years old, was trying to put her baby doll in it. It was cute! :) Oh, and congrats (I think..lol) on the bar. I can imagine how you would feel about passing/not passing. You want to, but you just want more time at home. IT'S NOT FAIR!! Why can't we all just stay home all the time?!?!?!? :) They seriously will do fine in day care though. It's harder on the moms more than anybody, unfortunately. Well, my hubby is snoring away on the couch, so I think I will grab him and head to bed. I am tired, as usual. I hope you had a nice Monday. I will chat with you soon. Take care of yourself :)

jess84 - Tuesday, 15 April
For your comment about the birth and having visitors after i told the nurse that after i had the baby i wanted him to get fed then once he had done that i would let visitors in. Usually the nurses are the best to tell people to back off when ur stressed and just wanting a bit of alone time with baby. With my 1st child my husbands family flew to see us after i had the baby but there were 8 of them and we only had a 2 bedroom house. They even brought cousins who my husband didnt think needed to be there. they just didnt get it. ANd i told my husband this time not one person is spending the night at our house. It can be real stressful and people/family need to think of the moms compforts first!!!

newmamabear - Monday, 14 April
Oh the cat in your profile pic is soo cute! I just wanted to stop by and do a mini-vent. I am not returning to my job and today at the VERY last minute my boss asked me to meet with, train, and let my replacement SHADOW me the whole day. I was pissed! First of all, I had a million other things to do. Second, a little notice would have been nice. My last day is this friday, she starts right after I leave, and she "actually has never done this before" so she was clueless. (SIGH)

wowwowmomma - Monday, 14 April

Andais - Monday, 14 April
Ya, it's nice to be at home and not dread leaving my bedroom in fear of running into my mother in law...

The shower for me was suprisingly fun...minus the MIL. I was so touched that my sisters did all of it for me. I owe them BIG TIME! any ideas on thank you gifts?

preciousangels2 - Monday, 14 April
Thanks! Today was a bit better but I had a horrible day otherwise! My son overflowed the toilet upstairs and then water started leaking in the kitchen... It was a big mess! I have had more contractions. But they're always in the afternoon whenever I eat... Have to talk to my doc about those... My back hasn't been hurting so much but I've still have some cramping. At least it's not as bad as yesterday!
