MAISIE PAULINE

Due Date: June 13th, 2008

Born: May 30th, 2008 at 6:34 am

Stats: 7 lbs, 4.9 oz -- 19 3/4 inches

She's a gorgeous girl with a little dark brown hair and blue eyes... she stole mommy and daddy's heart from the first moment we laid eyes on her!

ONE MONTH:

Whew! What a whirlwind month it's been! Maisie is a really good baby and we're so happy she's a part of our family. Dan and I have studied her from top to bottom and have concluded she's perfect. :) She seems to have mom's dark hair, eyes, and toes, and dad's mouth and temperament. Overall she looks a bit more like dad than like mom.

Maisie has pretty much smiled from day one. She's a very happy little baby who, like all newborns, likes to eat, sleep & cuddle with mom and dad! She loves bathtime. She often does the "Popeye-eye,"" which is when she opens one eye first when she wakes up. When she's hungry and I put her over my shoulder, she bobs her head back & forth, like a bird does when they're looking for food. It's so cute! Being a mother is the greatest feeling in the world, and I'm loving every moment of it!

TWO MONTHS:

Maisie is still the cutest little peanut I've ever seen! At her two month checkup she weighed 10 lbs, 5 oz. It's funny because that's about the size they thought she would be when she was born... now she's just reaching that weight at 2 mos of age. It's amazing how wrong the ultrasound technicians were about her size. But since she was such a little peanut when she was born, she definitely looks like she's filling out a lot now. Her little face is a bit pudgier, and her arms and legs have a few little rolls on them. So cute! Her hair is getting just a bit thicker, and she still has beautiful blue eyes.

She's also been interacting with Dan and I more and more each day. She imitates our facial expressions. Dan sticks his tongue out at her and she does it back. I tend to smile at her with my mouth wide open and she smiles the same way back at me. She definitely knows who I am too. She follows me with her eyes when Dan is holding her and I am walking throughout the room. Melts my heart! She also turns her head toward my voice when I walk into a room.

I'm still breastfeeding and enjoying that, even though it is a bit time consuming. I have no idea how I'd do it if I had another child in the home. Speaking of which... I swear I'm already ready to start trying for #2! Dan isn't anywhere near that point, so we'll be probably waiting at least a year. Actually if Dan had his way, Maisie would be an only child. We'll see where life takes us!

Maisie at two months:

Maisie

THREE MONTHS:

Maisie turned three months on August 30th. I see why people say they grow up way too fast. It seems like just yesterday that she was born. But then I look at pictures of when she was firstborn, as compared to pictures of her now, and I just can't believe how much she is changing. She's still a very happy little girl, and a very calm baby, which we are so very thankful for!

She began reaching for toys and grabbing things several weeks ago. I took her to Iowa to meet her great-grandparents and she laid on their floor and suddenly reached over and grabbed a little toy. She'd been trying for a long time, but that was the first time she was successful. So cute! She loves to bury her little head into my chest when I hold her, which just melts my heart. She hasn't rolled over yet, but she's working on it like a mad woman. If she could just get the upper part of her body to communicate with the lower part, she'd be a rolling machine! :) She was twelve pounds, two ounces as of last week, so she seems to be growing really well.

I started back at work last week, which has been a tough adjustment, but we're getting through it. Maisie is still at home with Dan, so that has helped the transition. I still miss her like crazy when I'm at work, and I hardly put her down between the time I get home and the time she goes to bed! I just love her to pieces.

September 7, 2008 -- Yay for Maisie! I'm such a proud mama... Maisie rolled over for the first time this evening! I had brought her over to my grandmother's and she was laying on the floor, working so hard on rolling over, but she just couldn't figure out what to do with her shoulder. We put her back on the floor after we got home, and she worked and worked at it until finally... she did it! She looked so cute laying there, grunting and tensing her muscles... I am so proud of her!

September 11, 2008 -- Maisie laughed for the first time when I was blowing on her tummy! Sooo cute!

September 15th, 2008 -- Maisie started rolling from her back to her front last week, but today she kept on rolling, and rolled from her front to her back! My little girl is growing so quickly!

FOUR MONTHS:

It’s hard to believe my little girl is already four months old! Maisie continues to grow like a weed and amaze Dan & I every day. At her four month checkup she weighed 13 lbs, 13 oz and was almost 24 inches, which put her at about the 50% for height and weight. She started rolling over last month, and now she’s basically obsessed with being on her stomach. It’s made diaper changes a bit challenging! She’s still smiley as ever and giggles when we play with her. I just can’t wait to come home after work each day to see her. It melts my heart when she gives me that big gummy grin when I walk in the door. Now if only I could get that hair on her head to grow a little… I swear she had more hair on her head when she was born! She’s still adorable with her little cue-ball head. Life is good... J

FIVE MONTHS:
Maisie is still the cutest little peanut I've ever seen. She's a really happy little baby who just goes with the flow. We did our first overnight trip with her a few weeks ago, and she did just great. Hardly made a peep as we toted her around from place to place. She's finally consistently sleeping about 11-12 hours at night, which has made me very happy! She's rolling both directions, and is really good at grabbing things... and of course putting them straight in her mouth once she gets them into her hands.
I'm actually still breastfeeding, though we've had to introduce formula due to my milk supply decreasing since I've been back at work. I think I'm finally burning out on pumping during the day, and will likely just start breastfeeding her in the morning and evening.
Maisie was a flower for Halloween. Truth be told, she wasn't too excited about having a flower hat on her head. But she was a good sport about it anyway, and let Dan & I take her around trick-or-treating. She fell asleep in my arms before I could even get her costume off. Too cute...

November 9th, 2008 - I felt Maisie's first tooth popping through! She's been drooling a lot, but other than that I wouldn't have even known she was teething. She hasn't been any more fussy than usual, or anything like that.
See Maisie in action!

How you feeling today. I hope you doing good. I know that belly makes it a little difficult, but I'm sure its all worth it.

jillb - Wednesday, 26 Mar
Yes, wow! Another 12 weeks will be interesting. We did have a nice Easter, and I am glad to hear you did too. My parents only live about 2 1/2 hours away from here, so my daughter and I went there. My hubby was working :( We have only painted the nursery but are in the process of putting it all together. I have a ton of clothes for him already and most of them are washed. I just need to get some things purchased (or wait to have a shower). There are still a few things I need that I don't have yet. We still have the big items from having our daughter, but some things will need to be replaced. My goal is to have everything in it's place by week 36. I don't see that being a problem. I hope and pray he doesn't come early. I am glad to hear you are doing well. I go back to the doc 4/1, and I am interested to see if/when they will do another u/s. I want to know if he's head down yet. I have a feeling because of the way he's kicking, but some times I feel like he's sideways. I know I still have time for him to turn, but it makes me nervous. I will let you know what I find out next Tuesday. Well, I am exhausted today (I am sure you know the feeling). I am about to my my sweet girl in bed, then I am headed there too. Have a great Wednesday!!

hi mplsmama my mother always says to me that also if you eat things with too much salt your body can swell up. also you if you spend too much time walking or sitting can also make that happen but also remenber just the pregnancy alone can be the one doing it to you. good luck and hope the sweling goes down.

ellasmom - Tuesday, 25 Mar
Try to avoid too much salty food. Like potato chips, pretzels and french fries. THe sodium makes you retain more fluid. When I was pregnant with my daughter, my dad was in ICU for the last 3 months of my pregnancy. I sat in hospital waiting rooms for hours on end...eating junk food. My doc told me that my ankles were so swollen because of all of the salty foods. And keep your feet elevated as much as possible....:-)

Hey there, how are you? Long time no chat with! I was just thinking of you today and wondering how you made out on the bar? Did you ever take it, if so how did you do? How is your little one doing these days? Did you ever find out the sex? Week 28...it's getting close! Talk to you soon!

shocked - Tuesday, 25 Mar
How was your Easter? So sorry I forgot to update you after the Dr.'s appt. It was great - my blob finally looked like a baby! The heartbeat was 176bpm. The Dr. said the neck measurement was under 1 which was SOO normal, the baby has a prominent nasal bone which is also a sign that it does NOT have downs and was very active. He said babies with downs, chromosonal abnormalities and heart defects do not move around very much. What a relief! I'm finally not obsessing every moment over this pregnancy. He also gave an educated guess to the sex. He said you can't tell right now because the sex organs are the same size, but that he's guessing it's a girl. He said we'll know for sure next month (4/17). I have to admit, I was initially a little disappointed at the thought of another girl, but honestly, I'm just so relieved about the indications that everything is ok, I'm already over the disappointment. At least I know what to do with girls!

Well, that week in April may be a big one for both of us - I'll find out my baby's sex and you will pass your bar exam (we're thinking positive)!!!

Hi, hope you had a good weekend. I'm so glad I'm not the only one that is squeamish about the 'beauty' of childbirth! Did you get a chance to talk to your doc about pain management options? I see mine on Friday so I'll be asking her the same questions. I am so on the same page as you as far as fear of labor goes. I try not to think about it but that's probably not very constructive. Lol. I think what I fear the most is being reduced to a big pile of mushy tears - ugh, I just want to be able to handle it. I don't want to cry more than my baby does! On a happier note, how is your registering/buying going? We've got most of the big stuff taken care of so now I can focus on figuring out what else I need, things I probably haven't even thought of. Ok, hope you're feeling well!

jillb - Monday, 24 Mar
Hey and Happy Easter!! I am feeling much better. I don't have bronchitis anymore. But I am having a lot of round ligament and middle back (muscle) pain. This boy is going to be big!! My daughter was 7lb. 11oz. but I just have this crazy feeling he is going to be much bigger. We are in the home stretch now, and I am happy. I am actually starting to get uncomfortable, and I think it's a little early to be feeling that way, but oh well. It just feels like everything is pulling around to the front of my stomach, so my back is hurting a lot. And I feel like my stomach is huge!! I think 'how will I ever make it another 12 weeks.' LOL!! I hope you are doing well. Your wait will be over soon, and you will know if you havev a prince or princes. I am so excited for you! Well, I am off to bed. It's late, and it's been a long festive Easter weekend. Hope yours was great. G'night!

LOL What kind of ice cream :) MMMMM that sounds soooo good lol. Ice cream or cleaning. I am thinking of a very uneven scale lol. I am glad that you didn't get effected by the bridge thing, except the traffic, but whats new in that city. We have family up there too, but fortunately no one we know got hurt. I actually wouldn't mind a trip to the mall. But being 18 hours instead of 4 makes all the difference in the world. The coolest thing I saw while in the cities, was in 8th grade we took a class trip there, and saw part of the movie 'jingle all the way' with Arnold Schwartzanager(?) being made. Didn't actually meet arnold, but his stunt double. The mall was all decked out in Christmas stuff in April. Anyhow...there I go again rambling on about nothing. Its turning out to be an awesome day outside!! 1hr and 20min then i get to go home YAY!!! How does your little munchkin like the ice cream??

laddgirl - Saturday, 22 Mar
I'm glad to see you are doing good. Yes, the Lord saw fit to bless me again. I am so excited. My first appt is on Wed. I asked God for twin boys, so say a prayer for me tonight. Rub your belly for me and take it easy. Blessings to you.

KariLynn - Saturday, 22 Mar
LOL. I can relate to the tub cleaning!! I had Thursday off, and did my cleaning. Everything went well til i got to the tub, then i said screw it lol. At least I got everythign else done. But it gets hard the further along I get. My next project is to go through my closet/junk room and make some more room in my tiny apt. Its snowing in Minneapolis?? I am glad I am not there. I am from Sioux Falls SD and have been there a few times. I got stuck at the airport once, that was before the 9-11 security stuff, it was kind of scary. My dads head office is right there by the airport. He was even scared for me lol. Anyhow, guess I like to ramble. Are you getting a lot of snow. Oh did the bridge collapse have any effect on you?

KariLynn - Saturday, 22 Mar
Hi :) Happy Saturday!! I just wish I didn't have to work. Its a beautiful day out today. A good sign of Spring!! And that just means it so much closer to meeting our babies :) I think I am starting to feel body parts outside my belly! I have noticed bulges in my belly, and I push on them, then they seem to go away, then come back. I think me pushing on them is making the baby mad lol. Have you felt anything on the outside yet?? Its so amazing! How is the sweet tooth coming along? I made chocolate chip cookies the other night, oh so yummy!!

mandalou81 - Saturday, 22 Mar
Wow, I had a creepy foot person too... ages ago... last year during the summer. I had sandals on and he came up to me while I was waiting to cross a road and started commenting on how he liked my feet and my toe ring! It was so creepy I think I even crossed before the lights turned green! There definitely are some creepy people out there.... actually now that I realise this has happened a few times I hope it doesn't mean I'm some kind of creep magnet! Totally gross!!

KariLynn - Saturday, 22 Mar
LOL about the baby :) Its scary to think they start doing what they want so early in life lol. Great news about the test!! Its got to be such a relief!!(Not sure if I can spell today or not lol) Well I have to get going for today, but will talk to you soon!!! Have a great night :)

knockoutmom - Friday, 21 Mar
aww well let me know when you get back! hope you get the results today. good luck!! :D

knockoutmom - Thursday, 20 Mar
hey! i have to go back for the 3 hour next thursday. thats so far away! i may call today and just see if i can get it done sooner than that. some women on here said their doctors said that their cutoff was 140, so i would have passed if i went to their them! im just so hooked on sugar that is bothering me so badly! zach and i both agreed that this is a wake up call for both of us to start eating a little better than we usually do though, so maybe there is some good out of this! oh yea, the morning of mine i ate a protein filled breakfast which makes numbers more accurate and still got that! i wouldnt go in on an empty stomach though. it is a lof of sugar! if you like sunkist youll like the drink. i didnt think it was bad at all! good luck and let me know!

sophiesoph - Thursday, 20 Mar
Hi, thanks for your note! I'm feeling much better today but still a little anxious about having contractions like that again. My doc told me that until this UTI clears I could have more contractions. If that happens I have to go back for another shot of terbutaline. Did you enjoy your birthing class? I did until they showed the video. Wow, that was scary. I'm starting to think maybe I'm not normal! Lol. I was so bothered by the images of the baby's head coming out. It just looked so odd to me. Ugh, I hope I can get over this fear because I'd really like to enjoy the birth as much as possible and not be so squeamish! Did you have any of those kinds of feelings??

Andais - Thursday, 20 Mar
THANKS!

KariLynn - Wednesday, 19 Mar
Hey there :) I happened to see your post on knockoutmoms page, as I am a little snoopy lol. Anyhow you commented on not eating before. I really had no problems with my 3 hour test, and they make you fast for 14 hours before you even take the test. So I am sure that if you don't eat you will be alright. I drank quite a bit of water, both times, and that might have helped with having no effects. Hope things are going well for you :)

Christelle - Wednesday, 19 Mar
Hi! Thanks for the nice compliment. Actually I was scared silly before, but since I have to do things without meds, I probably made more of an effort to educate myself than I would have if I lived in Canada (where I would have gladly accepted the epidural). Now, I must say I'm starting to be glad that I will give birth naturally after all the research I've been doing. I love the hypnobabies program- the cds are relaxing and the messages so positive. There is a yahoo group too which is really supportive. I'm going for a painless childbirth and no epidural! Good luck! Our bodies are made for this AND the more you are afraid of something, the worse it gets right? (With anything). Same goes for birth- so surround yourself with positive birth stories and people if you can- that has helped me.

thebigtomato - Wednesday, 19 Mar
I hope your GD test goes well. GD's biggest risk seems to be a grossly large baby that can make vaginal delivery impossible. It can also hurt the baby trying to push it out. Plus, the baby is at high risk for its sugar level to be dangerously low after birth. Babies born to moms with GD also have a greater risk of respiratory problems. Can you tell I've been researching? :)

shocked - Wednesday, 19 Mar
Sorry, my brain's not processing. Of course, you just graduated law school and I know that it takes awhile to get the BAR results back (my brother is a lawyer in L.A.). My parents were also big on education. My Dad was a public school teacher for 18 years before retiring and going into manufacturing. He had a Masters Degree and my Mom does too. My Masters is in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. You're right about the fact that you always have that - no one can take it away and what an accomplishment! I'll be crossing my fingers for you, but I'm sure you will pass with flying colors! Although I don't know how you concentrated while pregnant - my brain seems to frequently be MIA. I go to Dr. on Thursday AM - can't wait to see the baby. It still doesn't seem real, since I'm still not showing. Almost to my 2nd trimester - yeah! Keep in touch!

jobean38 - Tuesday, 18 Mar
Happy to help! I remember 5 yrs ago, one of my friends was pg with her 2nd - at 32 (k I was single at the time) and she said 'OMG I can't believe i'm having a baby at 32, I feel so old to be pregnant' I was like 'gee thanks!' Then I called her a hick LOL!
