MAISIE PAULINE

Due Date: June 13th, 2008

Born: May 30th, 2008 at 6:34 am

Stats: 7 lbs, 4.9 oz -- 19 3/4 inches

She's a gorgeous girl with a little dark brown hair and blue eyes... she stole mommy and daddy's heart from the first moment we laid eyes on her!

ONE MONTH:

Whew! What a whirlwind month it's been! Maisie is a really good baby and we're so happy she's a part of our family. Dan and I have studied her from top to bottom and have concluded she's perfect. :) She seems to have mom's dark hair, eyes, and toes, and dad's mouth and temperament. Overall she looks a bit more like dad than like mom.

Maisie has pretty much smiled from day one. She's a very happy little baby who, like all newborns, likes to eat, sleep & cuddle with mom and dad! She loves bathtime. She often does the "Popeye-eye,"" which is when she opens one eye first when she wakes up. When she's hungry and I put her over my shoulder, she bobs her head back & forth, like a bird does when they're looking for food. It's so cute! Being a mother is the greatest feeling in the world, and I'm loving every moment of it!

TWO MONTHS:

Maisie is still the cutest little peanut I've ever seen! At her two month checkup she weighed 10 lbs, 5 oz. It's funny because that's about the size they thought she would be when she was born... now she's just reaching that weight at 2 mos of age. It's amazing how wrong the ultrasound technicians were about her size. But since she was such a little peanut when she was born, she definitely looks like she's filling out a lot now. Her little face is a bit pudgier, and her arms and legs have a few little rolls on them. So cute! Her hair is getting just a bit thicker, and she still has beautiful blue eyes.

She's also been interacting with Dan and I more and more each day. She imitates our facial expressions. Dan sticks his tongue out at her and she does it back. I tend to smile at her with my mouth wide open and she smiles the same way back at me. She definitely knows who I am too. She follows me with her eyes when Dan is holding her and I am walking throughout the room. Melts my heart! She also turns her head toward my voice when I walk into a room.

I'm still breastfeeding and enjoying that, even though it is a bit time consuming. I have no idea how I'd do it if I had another child in the home. Speaking of which... I swear I'm already ready to start trying for #2! Dan isn't anywhere near that point, so we'll be probably waiting at least a year. Actually if Dan had his way, Maisie would be an only child. We'll see where life takes us!

Maisie at two months:

Maisie

THREE MONTHS:

Maisie turned three months on August 30th. I see why people say they grow up way too fast. It seems like just yesterday that she was born. But then I look at pictures of when she was firstborn, as compared to pictures of her now, and I just can't believe how much she is changing. She's still a very happy little girl, and a very calm baby, which we are so very thankful for!

She began reaching for toys and grabbing things several weeks ago. I took her to Iowa to meet her great-grandparents and she laid on their floor and suddenly reached over and grabbed a little toy. She'd been trying for a long time, but that was the first time she was successful. So cute! She loves to bury her little head into my chest when I hold her, which just melts my heart. She hasn't rolled over yet, but she's working on it like a mad woman. If she could just get the upper part of her body to communicate with the lower part, she'd be a rolling machine! :) She was twelve pounds, two ounces as of last week, so she seems to be growing really well.

I started back at work last week, which has been a tough adjustment, but we're getting through it. Maisie is still at home with Dan, so that has helped the transition. I still miss her like crazy when I'm at work, and I hardly put her down between the time I get home and the time she goes to bed! I just love her to pieces.

September 7, 2008 -- Yay for Maisie! I'm such a proud mama... Maisie rolled over for the first time this evening! I had brought her over to my grandmother's and she was laying on the floor, working so hard on rolling over, but she just couldn't figure out what to do with her shoulder. We put her back on the floor after we got home, and she worked and worked at it until finally... she did it! She looked so cute laying there, grunting and tensing her muscles... I am so proud of her!

September 11, 2008 -- Maisie laughed for the first time when I was blowing on her tummy! Sooo cute!

September 15th, 2008 -- Maisie started rolling from her back to her front last week, but today she kept on rolling, and rolled from her front to her back! My little girl is growing so quickly!

FOUR MONTHS:

It’s hard to believe my little girl is already four months old! Maisie continues to grow like a weed and amaze Dan & I every day. At her four month checkup she weighed 13 lbs, 13 oz and was almost 24 inches, which put her at about the 50% for height and weight. She started rolling over last month, and now she’s basically obsessed with being on her stomach. It’s made diaper changes a bit challenging! She’s still smiley as ever and giggles when we play with her. I just can’t wait to come home after work each day to see her. It melts my heart when she gives me that big gummy grin when I walk in the door. Now if only I could get that hair on her head to grow a little… I swear she had more hair on her head when she was born! She’s still adorable with her little cue-ball head. Life is good... J

FIVE MONTHS:
Maisie is still the cutest little peanut I've ever seen. She's a really happy little baby who just goes with the flow. We did our first overnight trip with her a few weeks ago, and she did just great. Hardly made a peep as we toted her around from place to place. She's finally consistently sleeping about 11-12 hours at night, which has made me very happy! She's rolling both directions, and is really good at grabbing things... and of course putting them straight in her mouth once she gets them into her hands.
I'm actually still breastfeeding, though we've had to introduce formula due to my milk supply decreasing since I've been back at work. I think I'm finally burning out on pumping during the day, and will likely just start breastfeeding her in the morning and evening.
Maisie was a flower for Halloween. Truth be told, she wasn't too excited about having a flower hat on her head. But she was a good sport about it anyway, and let Dan & I take her around trick-or-treating. She fell asleep in my arms before I could even get her costume off. Too cute...

November 9th, 2008 - I felt Maisie's first tooth popping through! She's been drooling a lot, but other than that I wouldn't have even known she was teething. She hasn't been any more fussy than usual, or anything like that.
See Maisie in action!

Hi there! If it's any consolation, I think people ask that ignorant 'natural' birth question at any age. What irritates me is that they mean 'vaginal.' I believe natural means natural--no pain killers or other drugs--which is a more valid question, but people love to ask if you're going to push the baby out. . . Like in the lasy century normal female vaginas became incapable of delivering babies and only super-human women can push theirs out or something.

I think people ask that Q so much these days because so many women have elective c sections and there is a myth out there that it is somehow easier and that delivering vaginally is more difficult. Of course that is ludicrous to think major abdominal surgery is 'easier' but what can you do? Especially your bro won't be able to understand-men are so clueless! Just laugh those people off. I think it is pretty funny that they are ignorant!

Oh it is so good to hear other people feeling the same!!!I am hoping there is relief soon once I can exercise again! I am ready to just hold her know and get this body back to normal! Good luck to you.

Thank you so much for your supportive message. It was very encouraging. I am going to try my best to see this through.

Thank you so much for your reassuring comments! You're right about the sad stories can really bring you down, but that overall, I really love having the website to hear about others' stories and to have support when I need it.

Congrats to you - you're almost there. AND big congrats on passing the BAR, no small feat! I remember 10 years ago, receiving my MBA and 4 months later I got pregnant. Soon after, quit working and have been a stay-at-home mom ever since! I'm still really glad to have my advanced degree, even if I never use it for more than helping with homework. I swear my 4th grader is already almost over my head at times - I have to go back and look stuff up!

Again, thanks for posting and best wishes with your new family!

HEY :) I hear ya about worrying!! I failed my one hour test, but everything else was going bad that day, so it was bound to happen lol. So as long as you are having a good day, you should be fine :) Again Good Luck !!

I used the playtex nursers with the plastic liners with my first daughter....they are a godsend. You never have to sterilize a big bulky bottle....only the nipples. No air bubbles=no tummy ache for the baby. My daughter did great with them...so my baby boy will use them too. Probably the same bottles to be exact!!!! I LOVED the plastic liners and agree with pixikate...buy the silicone nipples if your baby will take them...they clean up so nice in the dishwasher. The latex (brown) ones get so discolored and start falling apart if you put them in the dishwasher.

pixiekate - Wednesday, 12 Mar
i nanny for an infant right now, and he is mostly breastfed, but when he's with me i bottle feed him. i like the bottles with the plastic drop-ins because you can squeeze all the air out of them so the baby doesn't get bubbles....also the Playtex brand doesn't use any harmful chemicals in the drop-in's, its explains on the website. glass bottles are good too! oh- and get cilicone nipples because you can throw those in the dishwasher!

ziggysmom - Wednesday, 12 Mar
hello I am from week 25 but I read your post about plastic bottles and I am concerned as well, my mother in law gave me the lowdown on it and now I am paranoid I looked around and cant find any glass bottles but did find a brand of plastics at babies r us that say they are free of that chemical. I didnt get the name but wanted to let you know to check out babies r us and see if you can find what I saw.

I will keep my fingers crossed, I was so excited when I found out. Good luck to you :) Is yours the 3 hour?? If it is, bring lots to read!!

knockoutmom - Tuesday, 11 Mar
i read your post about falling over while bending down and i did the exact same thing today at our mailbox! i dropped some mail so i squatted down and literally just toppled over without warning! thankfully no one was around but getting up by myself was horrible! i felt like a turtle who had fallen on their shell! haha. how are your movements doing? mine definitly change day to day and i hate it! it gets me so nervous on days like today where she relaxes and doesnt kick too much. it seems like all she has room to do now is squirm and not kick! i hope shes not that big yet!

knockoutmom - Tuesday, 11 Mar
 awww you look great!

mommi2b - Monday, 10 Mar
I know what you mean - sometimes the reality of all this hits me and it's so scary. It seems so unreal - like, I'm gonna have a BABY in a few months! How crazy is that? I don't know anything about babies!...it's terrifying and exciting all in one!
I'm leaving for FL tomorrow afternoon - woohoo!!! I miss it so much! Just about all my family's down there. Going down for my baby shower - can't wait! I'm so looking forward to working on my laptop out on the patio in the warm sun!!! I really need a little vaca right now too :)
How have you been feeling?

padow - Monday, 10 Mar
Also...glad you finally registered. I think it will make your life a little easier, even if just a little. Yeah, I asked my friend 'which one??' and then did that. You can always change it...I've been given a few things so far and will definately modify the registry once I get more and figure out the other essentials....I don't want too many clothes. She's not going to stay small forever...:( Have a great day!

padow - Monday, 10 Mar
OH...my belly is really poking out now and I think about my weight all the time. Trying to stay near 25 lb. gain, but I don't think that is going to happen. Need to be walking on a consistent basis....and stop worrying all the time about it!! I am feeling good. Heartburn and constipation, but loving this precious angel! Yes, I am feeling lots of different movements now. Pretty regular...it takes a bit to get them on a consistent basis, and didn't it take you a little because of your position?? It will come...and it will still amaze you every time! :) Any news on the bar????? And how are you doing these days??!

You're very welcome for the tips. I didn't know how helpful it would be, but it's a start. I meant to tell you that it would be mentally draining. It's fun when you first start, but then you physically start to get tired and want to go home. I remember with my first one. This time I did mine on-line only. I haven't even been in the store. I may be sorry I did that, but I think it will be okay. I don't even have my baby furniture in the room yet. My hubby is going to paint next weekend, then I am sure it will start to be real. We bought our first package of diapers tonight. They are the little pamper swaddlers. Aww!! I am SO excited. Everyone has their own opinion about diapers, but personally Pampers were the only ones I liked. The Huggies and Luvs would wad up and get lumpy. They are definitely cheaper for a reason. But you will find what you like. I am always here if you have any questions. I am feeling horrible today. My daughter (3 years old) was running a fever of 103 last night, and she's doing better, but now I have a slight fever and feel horrible. I won't be working tomorrow, needless to say. And Jacob definitely has his active days. He wasn't that active at all last week, but this weekend, he's been moving a lot. Well, I better hit the sack. Maybe that will make me feel better. Take care and message when you can. G'night!

JennysFirst - Monday, 10 Mar
Thanks for your input- I appreciate it and it is good to know that what I am feeling is probably normal. I cannot help but to worry- but hearing from other moms really helps!!! Best of luck and thanks again:)

MissPrego901 - Sunday, 9 Mar
thanks mama...I'm happy I can eat!!

Christelle - Thursday, 6 Mar
You're funny! No, I didn't laugh so hard that I peed, but I have started wearing pads again, at least until this cold is over. Today I had my first ever nose bleed (in my life!) Right in the grocery store. Fun fun fun!

KariLynn - Thursday, 6 Mar
Its hard to believe in about 3 months our babies will be here!! Time is sure going by. I don't have anything ready at all. We live in a 1 bedroom apt right now, so don't have to worry about a nursery at this point, but the 1 bedroom can't last too long! We barely have enough room for the two of us with as well as we accumualte stuff lol. I am just so excited!! I can't wait to meet my baby boy!

knockoutmom - Wednesday, 5 Mar
thats almost exactly how i feel! except i can never have it massaged cause i can never find where exactly it hurts. sometimes when i flares up really bad the pain shoots down my upper thigh and its this really sharp throbbing pain that if i press down on it feels better but the second i let go it hurts worse! usually its just a sharp pain down my spine and into my legs though either when walking or sitting. i think wearing heels would definitly aggrivate it! thankfully my nursing shoes are these huge, white, ugly, cushiony things that make my feet feel a little better than regular shoes. im sorry your hurting!!

erica93 - Wednesday, 5 Mar
thanks for your comment on the baby bedding. We decided to go with tiddiwinks safari from Target. I was so stressed about it, but now it will be mujch easier to decorate the room!

Christelle - Wednesday, 5 Mar
Hi! I laughed at your comment on my VIP that everyone in our week seems either sick or angry. It's true! Don't know which I'd prefer, but this being sick thing is getting a bit tiresome I must admit. And the whole sneeze/pee thing is out of control now that I have a cold!! Ugh.

Niknaks - Wednesday, 5 Mar
Thanks for your comment! I'm glad I'm not the only one worrying about it. You have no idea how I pig out on sweet things lately, but I have tried to trim down a bit on them...the things on your list sound like the things I buy every day! hah! I'm holding thumbs for you too for the test, but if they're not so sure what actually causes it, then I'm sure we don't have to worry :))
