MAISIE PAULINE

Due Date: June 13th, 2008

Born: May 30th, 2008 at 6:34 am

Stats: 7 lbs, 4.9 oz -- 19 3/4 inches

She's a gorgeous girl with a little dark brown hair and blue eyes... she stole mommy and daddy's heart from the first moment we laid eyes on her!

ONE MONTH:

Whew! What a whirlwind month it's been! Maisie is a really good baby and we're so happy she's a part of our family. Dan and I have studied her from top to bottom and have concluded she's perfect. :) She seems to have mom's dark hair, eyes, and toes, and dad's mouth and temperament. Overall she looks a bit more like dad than like mom.

Maisie has pretty much smiled from day one. She's a very happy little baby who, like all newborns, likes to eat, sleep & cuddle with mom and dad! She loves bathtime. She often does the "Popeye-eye,"" which is when she opens one eye first when she wakes up. When she's hungry and I put her over my shoulder, she bobs her head back & forth, like a bird does when they're looking for food. It's so cute! Being a mother is the greatest feeling in the world, and I'm loving every moment of it!

TWO MONTHS:

Maisie is still the cutest little peanut I've ever seen! At her two month checkup she weighed 10 lbs, 5 oz. It's funny because that's about the size they thought she would be when she was born... now she's just reaching that weight at 2 mos of age. It's amazing how wrong the ultrasound technicians were about her size. But since she was such a little peanut when she was born, she definitely looks like she's filling out a lot now. Her little face is a bit pudgier, and her arms and legs have a few little rolls on them. So cute! Her hair is getting just a bit thicker, and she still has beautiful blue eyes.

She's also been interacting with Dan and I more and more each day. She imitates our facial expressions. Dan sticks his tongue out at her and she does it back. I tend to smile at her with my mouth wide open and she smiles the same way back at me. She definitely knows who I am too. She follows me with her eyes when Dan is holding her and I am walking throughout the room. Melts my heart! She also turns her head toward my voice when I walk into a room.

I'm still breastfeeding and enjoying that, even though it is a bit time consuming. I have no idea how I'd do it if I had another child in the home. Speaking of which... I swear I'm already ready to start trying for #2! Dan isn't anywhere near that point, so we'll be probably waiting at least a year. Actually if Dan had his way, Maisie would be an only child. We'll see where life takes us!

Maisie at two months:

Maisie

THREE MONTHS:

Maisie turned three months on August 30th. I see why people say they grow up way too fast. It seems like just yesterday that she was born. But then I look at pictures of when she was firstborn, as compared to pictures of her now, and I just can't believe how much she is changing. She's still a very happy little girl, and a very calm baby, which we are so very thankful for!

She began reaching for toys and grabbing things several weeks ago. I took her to Iowa to meet her great-grandparents and she laid on their floor and suddenly reached over and grabbed a little toy. She'd been trying for a long time, but that was the first time she was successful. So cute! She loves to bury her little head into my chest when I hold her, which just melts my heart. She hasn't rolled over yet, but she's working on it like a mad woman. If she could just get the upper part of her body to communicate with the lower part, she'd be a rolling machine! :) She was twelve pounds, two ounces as of last week, so she seems to be growing really well.

I started back at work last week, which has been a tough adjustment, but we're getting through it. Maisie is still at home with Dan, so that has helped the transition. I still miss her like crazy when I'm at work, and I hardly put her down between the time I get home and the time she goes to bed! I just love her to pieces.

September 7, 2008 -- Yay for Maisie! I'm such a proud mama... Maisie rolled over for the first time this evening! I had brought her over to my grandmother's and she was laying on the floor, working so hard on rolling over, but she just couldn't figure out what to do with her shoulder. We put her back on the floor after we got home, and she worked and worked at it until finally... she did it! She looked so cute laying there, grunting and tensing her muscles... I am so proud of her!

September 11, 2008 -- Maisie laughed for the first time when I was blowing on her tummy! Sooo cute!

September 15th, 2008 -- Maisie started rolling from her back to her front last week, but today she kept on rolling, and rolled from her front to her back! My little girl is growing so quickly!

FOUR MONTHS:

It’s hard to believe my little girl is already four months old! Maisie continues to grow like a weed and amaze Dan & I every day. At her four month checkup she weighed 13 lbs, 13 oz and was almost 24 inches, which put her at about the 50% for height and weight. She started rolling over last month, and now she’s basically obsessed with being on her stomach. It’s made diaper changes a bit challenging! She’s still smiley as ever and giggles when we play with her. I just can’t wait to come home after work each day to see her. It melts my heart when she gives me that big gummy grin when I walk in the door. Now if only I could get that hair on her head to grow a little… I swear she had more hair on her head when she was born! She’s still adorable with her little cue-ball head. Life is good... J

FIVE MONTHS:
Maisie is still the cutest little peanut I've ever seen. She's a really happy little baby who just goes with the flow. We did our first overnight trip with her a few weeks ago, and she did just great. Hardly made a peep as we toted her around from place to place. She's finally consistently sleeping about 11-12 hours at night, which has made me very happy! She's rolling both directions, and is really good at grabbing things... and of course putting them straight in her mouth once she gets them into her hands.
I'm actually still breastfeeding, though we've had to introduce formula due to my milk supply decreasing since I've been back at work. I think I'm finally burning out on pumping during the day, and will likely just start breastfeeding her in the morning and evening.
Maisie was a flower for Halloween. Truth be told, she wasn't too excited about having a flower hat on her head. But she was a good sport about it anyway, and let Dan & I take her around trick-or-treating. She fell asleep in my arms before I could even get her costume off. Too cute...

November 9th, 2008 - I felt Maisie's first tooth popping through! She's been drooling a lot, but other than that I wouldn't have even known she was teething. She hasn't been any more fussy than usual, or anything like that.
See Maisie in action!

Hi Thanks for your note. You have described my FIL to a T. Whew, not a nice person at all. Hope it is the hormones making me feel this way cause I am not prepared to spend the rest of my life with FIL junior. HA HA!!! Anyway he's not so bad at least 20% of the time. Good luck to you and I think we musn't forget why we vell in love with them in the first place...Why was that again......?

Oh the lovely registry. What a blessing and a curse. I know what you mean about a 'fish out of water.' I had no idea what I was doing with my first child either. I called a lot of friends who already had a child, and it helped. You really just have to pick everything you could possibly need and be open to taking a lot of things back. You really don't know what you need until the baby arrives, truthfully. Here are a few must-haves: a boppy pillow, a swing, MILICON DROPS
(saved my life), little mittens or socks for their hands (when they are first born, they will scratch their little faces terribly). I have found socks worked better than those mittens they sell. The mittens are too tight on their little wrists. Take these to the hospital. The little outfits that have the flap that will come over and cover their hands are awesome. I can't think of anything else right now, but if you have any questions, you are welcome to message back or email me at jillbenton@hotmail.com. I know how you feel, so I am more than happy to help in any way! You are doing so well not to know what you are having. You are almost there now, so may as well wait a little longer. How wonderful your experience will be :) Well, I am headed to bed. G'night, and talk to you soon.

This is a little late but congratulations!! It must feel so good to be done with the exam. I hope you've been able to unwind and getting studying out of your system. I remember after the exam I just didn't know what to do with myself. Lol. Did you go register? We are actually not having a shower or registering. My friends & family are so bugged that we aren't but it just isn't our thing. We've decided to have a little get together after the baby is born. Are you back to working? I've been so swamped the last couple of weeks I haven't been online much. :( I've been working 6 days a week and I feel ready to collapse. I just suddenly got a bunch of stuff dumped on me. I'm not that happy about it and can't wait to leave. We've pretty much decided that I won't work for the rest of the year after the baby is born. I'm so looking forward to that! Do you know what you're doing after your little one is born?

LOL. I am very short too. I am 5'2...I think the 'long' comes from my husband, he is nearly 6'0 tall. I am really short waisted too, what height I do have is nearly all in my legs. The baby, if not poking out my ribs, usually will also rest really really low in my abdomen, I get this little shelf underneath by belly button sometimes. It always makes me laugh.

We decided to keep the gender for a surprise for pretty much the same reason, to have a surprise at the end to look forward too, plus its so fun hearing everyones predictions based solely on the shape of my belly THAT DAY. And it's always different. And they are always SO sure that they know I will be having this or that. Almost everyone though thinks I am having a boy. We'll see, only time will tell.

Have people started randomly touching your belly in public yet? Everyone I see wants to rub my belly, you;d think I ma good look or something. LOL

Oh--I hope you did well! Please let me know when you find out! Yeah, I got overwhelmed and then a friend of mine went with me and started 'the basics' to get one started so people can start shopping and stuff. Then I have been adding online and I created the other 2. It really helped me to go with a friend that knew what to do...she also suggested no outfits and not a lot of blankets, as people will get you those regardless! And don't forget some bigger items, in case people want to go in together....love your pics!! You look really great! I am still waiting to POP out! I'll post a picture soon...let me know what you think, OK? And congrats on the bar being over with...I know that is a relief!! :) Take care of yourself and stay fabulous!

I wish I could feel my little one that well...I can feel her kick a lot from the inside, and now even started feeling it from the outside too when she kicks hard enough. My placenta is in the front so it cushions her kicks. I still haven't seen my belly move when she kicks - but then again I'm not always looking at my belly either.
My face is clearing up - thank god! I guess it's just cuz I was really stressed out last week. I can't wait to get down to FL!..and to have the baby shower!...this is all so new to me, ya know? Sometimes I feel like I'm not even me, ya know?...feel like this is not my life - just not too long ago all this baby talk was non-existent! Just feels wierd to me sometimes - do you ever feel like that?

MrsWetzel - Monday, 3 Mar
IT is really uncomfortable!!! But I am getting used to it. I went into the doctor on thursday and she said I was having a 'very long baby' The baby starts to get really active at the time when I got to bed and right after I eat thats when the ribs start to get knocked and my lower abodomen starts to get kicked. Last night was crazy. My doctor says to lay on my left side if I can, but when the baby is there (which is most of the time) I feel like I am squishing it and I can't breathe very easily.

I don't mind so much. I love when the baby kicks, just now when s/he kicks my bladder.

Its neat to see someone who is at the same place I am at with pregnancy.

Cheers.

Hi! OMG yes I've checked every possible name site on the internet, including name polls here. I've checked our Japanese name book too. I'm getting sooo tired and disheartened! At least we still have time left. But I really want to pick a name we both love, rather than a name we have to settle on. Many Japanese girls' names sound pretty in English, but boy's names sound soooo Japanese in English and vice versa. Ahhhhh! I'm sure a good one will come to us though. I'll let you know.

MrsWetzel - Saturday, 1 Mar
I am at 25 weeks plus a couple of days and I am TOTALLY experiencing the same thing. It does kind of hurt a little. The baby's head is right under my left ribs and feet are kicking me in my lower right pelvic area. I think I am starting to get used to it now, but he moves around alot.

Jessika429 - Saturday, 1 Mar
My baby sat under my ribs for quite a few weeks. I would have to lay down just to breathe. Everyone told me it would just get worse the farther along i got but it has seemed to let up now. she still sits up there some times but not constantly anymore. hang in there =)

mommi2b - Saturday, 1 Mar
Hi! So glad your doing good!
I know exactly how you feel...went I went registering for stuff I felt so overwhelmed and stressed out about it. I picked out our bedding set/nursery theme and registered for all that stuff, a bouncy seat, swing, diaper bag, diaper genie & refills, Little Einstein's play gym mat, booster seat, front baby carrier, Graco's Travel System, bath tub, a few toys, bassinet, bassinet pad & sheets, changing table, pack -n-play & sheets, changing pad & covers, wipes warmer, digital thermometer....stuff like that. I checked on Consumer Reports and Graco always got good reviews, so I bought our travel system, pack -n- play and swing from Graco. I figured I'd wait on the high chair. Don't need that for awhile anyways. My mom also said I'll probably get a lot of gift cards from the people who can't make the shower, so I figured I'd buy a lot of clothes and sheets and the little stuff w/ that.
Hope that helps a little bit! :) I registered w/ BabiesRUs and Target. Where are you registering?
That's so awesome you guys can see your little one moving around in there! I haven't seen my belly move yet but I feel her ALL THE TIME and I love it!!! Still mostly from the inside, but just last night my hubby and I were laying down watching a movie and she started kicking me and we both could feel her from the outside! He was so thrilled!!! Not very hard from the outside yet, but we definitely could feel her! :)

KariLynn - Saturday, 1 Mar
I can relate to the 'what the heck is that' lol. Did you read the post about registering at target? I didn't and someone said it wasn't a good idea, but I dont know what it is! Another thing, I want to nurse, but would really hate to spend the money if something should happen that I couldnt. What to do, what to do lol.

caitie - Saturday, 1 Mar
hi, to answer your post about your baby under your ribs. Mine is right under the end part of my ribs so if i move a certain way it acts like it is catching on him and it is so painfull and i would think it would hurt him too but since he doesnt move i guess it doesnt. He doesnt seem to like to be in any other spot either. You just have to bear with it and realize that baby is going to do what ever it wants lol. It just makes you want him out earlier so you can quit being in pain. Well, hope your baby moves and yes it is completely normal.

preciousangels2 - Saturday, 1 Mar
I don't really have much of a choice whether or not to go back to work. It was be way to expensive to send to kids to daycare anyway. I'd be working just to pay for childcare! Why do that when I can do it myself? I'd rather stay home with the kids anyway, although I do love the things my son does at daycare and the interaction with others kids that he gets. I know I am fortunate though. Not everyone has the opportunity to stay home. I think it's harder work staying at home than it is working outside of the home.

teenMOMMIE - Friday, 29 Feb
bleh yeah. i kept thinking 'if shes born i dont have my camera!!' hahah

KariLynn - Friday, 29 Feb
I hear ya about the registering. I was talking to my aunt probably about a month ago and she says that I need everything. I just was like well whats everything?!?! I don't know what I need, ya know. LOL I am just going to take the gun and shoot I guess. Do you plan on breastfeeding? Thats my biggest worry. I just don't know what brand to go with, and that kind of stuff. Plus all the stuff to go along with it. Like i saw today they have the freezer bags and stuff, is all that necessary? Ya know what I mean. And I don't have anyone to go to the store with me to do it. I don't know anyone here, and am sad about doing it by myself! My boyfriend has no interest in going at all, so that just leaves me. Hmmm....sorry kind of venting a bit. I have had a somewhat depressing day. Stupid hormones!!

knockoutmom - Thursday, 28 Feb
hey! im doing alright. i actually just got in from the hospital!! i woke up with horrible back pains which i thought was my sciatica acting up but i went to the bathroom and noticed that i urinated a couple specks of blood!! so my doc told me to come in for observation. after 4 hours of questions and watching tv zach and i found out i had a uti and thats it!! thank god! it was nice to get hooked up and hear my babys heartbeat and see the few contractions that i had on a monitor. im really not making them up!! haha. she said my cervix was closed, too. ughhh. it was so stressful going there though just thinking about what could be wrong! thankfully nothing big! 25 weeks is way too early. anyways, im glad to hear about your bar exam being over finally! you think you did well? at least you had a little good luck charm with you!!

SophieSoph - Tuesday, 26 Feb
Good luck tomorrow & Wednesday!!! You'll be great. Just think, it'll be done pretty soon and no more studying. Let me know how it goes. Smart vibes, smart vibes, smart vibes...

pixiekate - Friday, 22 Feb
i've gained 30:-(, so don't feel too bad! hope you and baby are well!! xoxo

JillB - Friday, 22 Feb
Hey there! I am definitely able to say that I have been feeling movement every day. And you're right, it's deeper than it was before. I can tell he's getting bigger. Oh, and yes, we are having a boy. I commend you for not finding out. I don't think I could ever wait that long. I am glad to know you are doing well. Stay in touch :)

knockoutmom - Thursday, 21 Feb
and by the way, my doc also told me i have sciatica! it hurts so bad even just to walk. it seems to get worse and worse, too! oh the fun!

knockoutmom - Thursday, 21 Feb
aww my babys heartrate was 160, too! he said she had a really strong heart which made me happy. i gained 9 lbs which in total is 16. i dont know how i gained that so quickly! did you gain 20 total or 20 at the last visit? we're allowed to gain up to 35 so we're still in the clear! even if your doctor did slip, at least he didnt tell you he slipped! so at least you still dont really know for sure. i find myself calling my little one a boy sometimes. i guess its just everyones first reaction to a baby is considering it a he. who knows? zach and i are probaly taking the really long childbirth class plus im sending him to a thing my hospital has called daddy boot camp. its where a dad comes in and teaches a class to new dads about basics like how to hold a baby or change a baby. so its gonna be great for him! we've been looking for a house the past few months and we're hoping on finding that dream one this weekend. our first home we'll own! now just comes a ring! haha! one of these days we will. we just really dont want it to be because of the baby so when things die down a bit i think we're gonna go for it. well, that is if he asks me! :) plus we'll already have a flower girl!! perfect!

knockoutmom - Thursday, 21 Feb
hey! i finally got around to putting up some pics! i even got zach to help me put up one of the ultrasound pics from 18 weeks. can you believe that was already 6 weeks ago?! time is going by too quick and it kinda hit me today that ill be considered full term in 13 weeks only! that really doesnt sound like long at all! scary! im starting the waddle now. my little girl is always on my bladder and i cant walk any other way! zachs been getting on my nerves, too. hes always been an only child so this whole responsibility thing is kinda taking him by surprise. 25 sounds a little late to be realizing this though! haha! oh well, i think he's been trying to understand more lately. men just dont seem to be much into pregnancy, even if they say they are. has your husband read any books yet? we have a few father to be books but im sure come week 37 they'll get some use. will you be taking any birthing classes?
