MAISIE PAULINE

Due Date: June 13th, 2008

Born: May 30th, 2008 at 6:34 am

Stats: 7 lbs, 4.9 oz -- 19 3/4 inches

She's a gorgeous girl with a little dark brown hair and blue eyes... she stole mommy and daddy's heart from the first moment we laid eyes on her!

ONE MONTH:

Whew! What a whirlwind month it's been! Maisie is a really good baby and we're so happy she's a part of our family. Dan and I have studied her from top to bottom and have concluded she's perfect. :) She seems to have mom's dark hair, eyes, and toes, and dad's mouth and temperament. Overall she looks a bit more like dad than like mom.

Maisie has pretty much smiled from day one. She's a very happy little baby who, like all newborns, likes to eat, sleep & cuddle with mom and dad! She loves bathtime. She often does the "Popeye-eye,"" which is when she opens one eye first when she wakes up. When she's hungry and I put her over my shoulder, she bobs her head back & forth, like a bird does when they're looking for food. It's so cute! Being a mother is the greatest feeling in the world, and I'm loving every moment of it!

TWO MONTHS:

Maisie is still the cutest little peanut I've ever seen! At her two month checkup she weighed 10 lbs, 5 oz. It's funny because that's about the size they thought she would be when she was born... now she's just reaching that weight at 2 mos of age. It's amazing how wrong the ultrasound technicians were about her size. But since she was such a little peanut when she was born, she definitely looks like she's filling out a lot now. Her little face is a bit pudgier, and her arms and legs have a few little rolls on them. So cute! Her hair is getting just a bit thicker, and she still has beautiful blue eyes.

She's also been interacting with Dan and I more and more each day. She imitates our facial expressions. Dan sticks his tongue out at her and she does it back. I tend to smile at her with my mouth wide open and she smiles the same way back at me. She definitely knows who I am too. She follows me with her eyes when Dan is holding her and I am walking throughout the room. Melts my heart! She also turns her head toward my voice when I walk into a room.

I'm still breastfeeding and enjoying that, even though it is a bit time consuming. I have no idea how I'd do it if I had another child in the home. Speaking of which... I swear I'm already ready to start trying for #2! Dan isn't anywhere near that point, so we'll be probably waiting at least a year. Actually if Dan had his way, Maisie would be an only child. We'll see where life takes us!

Maisie at two months:

Maisie

THREE MONTHS:

Maisie turned three months on August 30th. I see why people say they grow up way too fast. It seems like just yesterday that she was born. But then I look at pictures of when she was firstborn, as compared to pictures of her now, and I just can't believe how much she is changing. She's still a very happy little girl, and a very calm baby, which we are so very thankful for!

She began reaching for toys and grabbing things several weeks ago. I took her to Iowa to meet her great-grandparents and she laid on their floor and suddenly reached over and grabbed a little toy. She'd been trying for a long time, but that was the first time she was successful. So cute! She loves to bury her little head into my chest when I hold her, which just melts my heart. She hasn't rolled over yet, but she's working on it like a mad woman. If she could just get the upper part of her body to communicate with the lower part, she'd be a rolling machine! :) She was twelve pounds, two ounces as of last week, so she seems to be growing really well.

I started back at work last week, which has been a tough adjustment, but we're getting through it. Maisie is still at home with Dan, so that has helped the transition. I still miss her like crazy when I'm at work, and I hardly put her down between the time I get home and the time she goes to bed! I just love her to pieces.

September 7, 2008 -- Yay for Maisie! I'm such a proud mama... Maisie rolled over for the first time this evening! I had brought her over to my grandmother's and she was laying on the floor, working so hard on rolling over, but she just couldn't figure out what to do with her shoulder. We put her back on the floor after we got home, and she worked and worked at it until finally... she did it! She looked so cute laying there, grunting and tensing her muscles... I am so proud of her!

September 11, 2008 -- Maisie laughed for the first time when I was blowing on her tummy! Sooo cute!

September 15th, 2008 -- Maisie started rolling from her back to her front last week, but today she kept on rolling, and rolled from her front to her back! My little girl is growing so quickly!

FOUR MONTHS:

It’s hard to believe my little girl is already four months old! Maisie continues to grow like a weed and amaze Dan & I every day. At her four month checkup she weighed 13 lbs, 13 oz and was almost 24 inches, which put her at about the 50% for height and weight. She started rolling over last month, and now she’s basically obsessed with being on her stomach. It’s made diaper changes a bit challenging! She’s still smiley as ever and giggles when we play with her. I just can’t wait to come home after work each day to see her. It melts my heart when she gives me that big gummy grin when I walk in the door. Now if only I could get that hair on her head to grow a little… I swear she had more hair on her head when she was born! She’s still adorable with her little cue-ball head. Life is good... J

FIVE MONTHS:
Maisie is still the cutest little peanut I've ever seen. She's a really happy little baby who just goes with the flow. We did our first overnight trip with her a few weeks ago, and she did just great. Hardly made a peep as we toted her around from place to place. She's finally consistently sleeping about 11-12 hours at night, which has made me very happy! She's rolling both directions, and is really good at grabbing things... and of course putting them straight in her mouth once she gets them into her hands.
I'm actually still breastfeeding, though we've had to introduce formula due to my milk supply decreasing since I've been back at work. I think I'm finally burning out on pumping during the day, and will likely just start breastfeeding her in the morning and evening.
Maisie was a flower for Halloween. Truth be told, she wasn't too excited about having a flower hat on her head. But she was a good sport about it anyway, and let Dan & I take her around trick-or-treating. She fell asleep in my arms before I could even get her costume off. Too cute...

November 9th, 2008 - I felt Maisie's first tooth popping through! She's been drooling a lot, but other than that I wouldn't have even known she was teething. She hasn't been any more fussy than usual, or anything like that.
See Maisie in action!

Great new pics!!!! You are much bigger than I am. I wish my belly was that big, but all in good time I guess. How did you do on the mock bar? I will definitely keep my fingers crossed for you!!! Yeah, I started my nursery. We just ordered our furniture about 2 weeks ago and we have our contractor coming over at the end of the month to do our crown molding and chair rail and I've already chosen my perfect shade of mint green and taupe for the my very neutral nursery!!!! So to answer your question NO way have I peaked and to be honest I don't have the slightest desire to. I picked out a really great boy name and girl name and I will be completely and totally happy with either. When do you plan to start your nursery shopping? Our shipping time was 8-10 weeks for our furniture and I knew that might happen so I wanted to get a jump on things. How much time do you plan to take off of work?

Lol, I just had to comment on what you said about best hormonal stories... the radio one LOL... made me have good laugh :D

KariLynn - Monday, 11 Feb
I like your new pics :) I am so computer challenged and haven't put any on yet LOL. I am kinda starting to think that techs don't know how to keep quiet. Mine did the same thing as you. Then later on she did it again, only then she said right away, or girl. I think she just didn't catch herself the first time. I am happy to know though. I thought I was having a boy from the get go. Otherwise things going good for you? We are getting closer :) Take care!!

mommi2b - Monday, 11 Feb
Me 2! Last night when I woke up, I was laying there and I felt her kick from the inside, so I put my hand on my belly and I felt it again from the outside too! It was so awesome! Then, this morning when I woke up I wasn't sure if I had dreamt it or not! LOL :)

christelle - Monday, 11 Feb
Hope all is going well in your pregnancy too by the way!

christelle - Monday, 11 Feb
Thanks for your message on my VIP. Maybe I should be feeling lucky, it wouldn't be such a bad thing to have a laid back baby! DH and I are both pretty lazy and love sleeping so maybe our baby is just taking after us :)

KariLynn - Saturday, 9 Feb
Hi how are you doing?? I havent talked to you in a bit so I thought I would say hi. I remember talking with you about not finding out the sex of the baby, well I had a trainee tech do my u/s and oops, she let the gender slip. So I am having a boy, even though I didn't want to know I am thrilled to konw, ya know :) Well I just thought that I would check in. I hope that you are doing alright, take care!!

copmom2b - Saturday, 9 Feb
Hey there! Great to hear from you!!! Yes, I can finally feel my little one kick! I've been feeling it pretty consistantly for about a week now. They feel more like plucks than kicks but it's so wonderful to finally feel!!!! Things are really going well with me and I'm happy to see that things are going good with you too and that you're belly is getting big!!!! You have to post more pics, I love those!!!! K.I.T.

I also have a misshaped stomach, but don't have scoliosis. I have 2 large fibroids on the left side, and it is starting to be obvious to me. I am afraid I will look like a circus side show at the end, but trying not to worry about it!

jinniyah - Saturday, 9 Feb
I also have scoliosis but I'm not sure if wil mis-shapen your stomach lol. Bcuz my little boy loves to lay on the right side of my stomach no matter how I lay or anything. I think the only thing scoliosis will effect is your posture (especially now you carrying a baby) and labor. I have horrible back pain from the scoliosis and on top of that I think my scoliosis causes sciatic pain. Hopefully you won't get any of that. Hope you found this useful, if not I am so sorry the best thing would be to ask a doctor or better yet a chiropractor. Also, you can go to the chiropractpr while being pregnant, a lot of my moms friends said when they went to chiropractor while being pregnant they experienced easier labor than with previous pregnancies, but everybodys body is different. Take care and good luck!

deerwendy - Saturday, 9 Feb
Thanks for your great comments on telling people about the baby. I loved your story about your friend who didn't share in your happiness. I guess some people feel like they have the corner on the mommy market and only a select few meet the criteria. I think it is so awesome that you and your husband went to school, finished with great degress, and then decided to have a family. I wish with all my heart I would have been that smart, but I was too involved with guys to see straight to finish my degree. So I was married at 22, had my daughter, and was miserable because I had nothing in the way of stability. I am just now finishing my BA and starting grad school this summer and I will be 37!! You did it the right way and maybe your friend was just jealous. I keep telling my daughter that she can have children later and she needs to focus on herself and her school career.

I am very proud of you!!
Take care!

awww your little one was trying to calm you down and get your mind off the stress! thats so cute! i feel like my little one has done that a lot for me. everytime i start overthinking things and getting upset she moves around and totally gets my mind off of things. isnt it so weird to watch these shows on tv like the baby story and see these moms going through labor and having a baby and actually realize that the same thing is going to happen to us?! i dont think i can even comprehend it still to this day! i definitly know something is in me but a little baby? its such a weird but amazing concept! i love it and cannot wait to see what she looks like!! oh yea, are you getting heartburn or indigestion at all? im getting both HORRBLE!! some days are fine but others are unbearable! another joy of pregnancy!

padow - Friday, 8 Feb
Hey! How are you? I found out I am having a girl! I always thought we would have a boy first, but that's what I get for thinkin! I am super excited!! Hope you are feeling good and have a great weekend! ♥

knockoutmom - Thursday, 7 Feb
hey! just checkin on ya!! im sure youve been busy like everyone else. im doing pretty good. getting bigger. carrying very low as everyone says! i feel movement low as well, still. im sure its ok but it always gets me nervous when i read how some women are feeling it by their belly buttons! ive maybe felt it that high three times or so. thats it. she moves a whole lot but im pretty sure its still just the same as usual. the only way i can feel it is when i sit or lay down and i have some tighter pants on that hug my tummy. if i put my hands on it i can feel it too sometimes pretty hard. im just wondering why im not feeling kicks like other women are. i wonder if its because she is so down low? who knows. im eating up a storm too! im gonna end up gaining so much. ughh! anyways, hope you are well!

Hi! Are you feeling any better? I completely understand what you're saying about the bar exam. I don't know if this helps or not but I think probably almost everyone studying thinks they're falling behind and they probably are. The schedule is impossible to follow and unless you're a machine there's just no way to get it all done. All you can do is your best and if it doesn't happen for you this time try not to beat yourself up too much. You've got yourself and a little one to think about and if you're tired or not feeling well then you need to do what's best for you. If you need a rest, allow yourself that. You're only human and there's only so much you can do. I wouldn't have been able to do half of what you are! I had such a hard time with studying and keeping up that the night before the exam I almost backed out! lol. I was ready to flee the city and start fresh somewhere else but thankfully my boyfriend (now husband) talked some sense into me and I just went in and tried my best. You will be ok and you will get through this. Just try to cut yourself some slack. I hope you're doing ok - I'll be sending good thoughts your way.

Hey Minneapolis, thanks for the comment/support. Yeah, it just doesn't occur to some men to clean up/help out. My tears don't even work :( I love my sweetie, but sometimes......aarhh!! Well, I suppose if no help around the house/no sense of responsibility is my biggest problem with him, it's not so bad in comparison to what other problems people have. It's just to me, it's so inconsiderate. He knows this bothers me and continues to do nothing around the house. If I've worked all day and he's been at home with my son, you should see the mess I come home to. The boy is put to bed, but hubby is on the computer, or on the phone. My argument with the phone is: if you can chat and hold the phone with one hand, you can pick up toys, dishes, clothes, etc. with the other! We have only portable phones! He just doesn't get it! Man, your story about 'dinner made by lamp light' is a goodie. How did you not have a headache from that for 6 months?????? Take good care, girlie

Andais - Sunday, 3 Feb
thanks for giving me a piece of mind. So do you know what you're having yet?

Keep in touch.
Cici

knockoutmom - Saturday, 2 Feb
yea, i read the 'older mom' comment myself and wondered why that was said. i was online when the whole debate started and it just made me laugh. all the comments but that one were funny. i know she was trying to personally attack the lady who was making the rude comments, but i dont think she realized how many as some people would say 'older' pregnant women there were on here. i wanted to say something myself but i was afraid id get a comment back and i just really dont feel like getting into it! i think on this website we all have certain people who we are 'closer' to and talk to moreso than others. its like a tight group of women who have never met but can talk about anything, regardless of age (except for that comment) or anything!! and i love that! i got emotional myself today thinking about how when we all have our little ones with us, then what? who will we talk to? i hope we all keep in touch. its the best feeling to talk with women who are in the exact week as you and to chit chat about how your feeling. ok now im getting sappy! haha. i was telling this to zach today and he looked at me like i was crazy!! oh well! anyways, im glad you felt movement! im worried about week 28 where they say you have to start keeping track of movements. thats a total of 12 weeks of worry! we dont need anymore of that!!

knockoutmom - Saturday, 2 Feb
hey!! im definitly not offended by that at all. i feel the same way! i always thought that carrying low meant a boy, but who knows? all i know is i have checked that ultrasound pic a million times and verified the 3 lines that means girl!! haha. yea that blood thing was a real big scare for me. everything was going through my head. thankfully it didnt continue. but now im concerned that maybe when i urinated it came out then?? i dont know. i dont feel like i have a uti. it didnt look like spotting type of blood. oh well, all i know is it stopped and i feel a bit better now because she was kicking me soooo hard last night in my intestines or something! it made my heart jump when she did it. i can see her now moving through my stomach sometimes. all it looks like is a little jab. i love it!! it makes me feel so much more confident about all of this!! how have you been? any new developments?

ACK! - Friday, 1 Feb
Thank you so much for your encouraging thoughts. I really appreciate them and agree whole-heartily with you. I was really having a tough day yesterday and I just feel so much better today.

padow - Friday, 1 Feb
Awww...sorry to hear you've got a bug. Glad to hear that you're feeling better, though. I have my 3rd cold (since pg) and this one is a doozy!! Taking Mucinex now and my nose just doesn't want to stay clear. I hope that this is the last time I get a cold while I'm pg. Everything with babe is going good, though. The movement still surprises me, but it's such a wonderful feeling! Have you been feeling the babe? And how's work?

SophieSoph - Thursday, 31 Jan
I'm sorry you haven't been feeling well! I know how scared you must've been. I get so paranoid about being around sick people. My husband has been under the weather the last couple of days so I've been staying away from him. Lol. Poor guy. Are you able to eat anything now? Yes, I fell yesterday like an idiot. I have an 8-month old puppy and if it's possible she's even clumsier than I am. I just got so scared because I landed pretty hard on my butt! I called my doc this morning and everything is fine. I've been feeling my little one move quite a bit today so that makes me feel heaps better. That's so exciting you're feeling your baby! It will only get stronger and stronger and even with the placenta right there I'm sure you'll be feeling kicks soon. Hope you're feeling better. Take care of yourself!
