MAISIE PAULINE

Due Date: June 13th, 2008

Born: May 30th, 2008 at 6:34 am

Stats: 7 lbs, 4.9 oz -- 19 3/4 inches

She's a gorgeous girl with a little dark brown hair and blue eyes... she stole mommy and daddy's heart from the first moment we laid eyes on her!

ONE MONTH:

Whew! What a whirlwind month it's been! Maisie is a really good baby and we're so happy she's a part of our family. Dan and I have studied her from top to bottom and have concluded she's perfect. :) She seems to have mom's dark hair, eyes, and toes, and dad's mouth and temperament. Overall she looks a bit more like dad than like mom.

Maisie has pretty much smiled from day one. She's a very happy little baby who, like all newborns, likes to eat, sleep & cuddle with mom and dad! She loves bathtime. She often does the "Popeye-eye,"" which is when she opens one eye first when she wakes up. When she's hungry and I put her over my shoulder, she bobs her head back & forth, like a bird does when they're looking for food. It's so cute! Being a mother is the greatest feeling in the world, and I'm loving every moment of it!

TWO MONTHS:

Maisie is still the cutest little peanut I've ever seen! At her two month checkup she weighed 10 lbs, 5 oz. It's funny because that's about the size they thought she would be when she was born... now she's just reaching that weight at 2 mos of age. It's amazing how wrong the ultrasound technicians were about her size. But since she was such a little peanut when she was born, she definitely looks like she's filling out a lot now. Her little face is a bit pudgier, and her arms and legs have a few little rolls on them. So cute! Her hair is getting just a bit thicker, and she still has beautiful blue eyes.

She's also been interacting with Dan and I more and more each day. She imitates our facial expressions. Dan sticks his tongue out at her and she does it back. I tend to smile at her with my mouth wide open and she smiles the same way back at me. She definitely knows who I am too. She follows me with her eyes when Dan is holding her and I am walking throughout the room. Melts my heart! She also turns her head toward my voice when I walk into a room.

I'm still breastfeeding and enjoying that, even though it is a bit time consuming. I have no idea how I'd do it if I had another child in the home. Speaking of which... I swear I'm already ready to start trying for #2! Dan isn't anywhere near that point, so we'll be probably waiting at least a year. Actually if Dan had his way, Maisie would be an only child. We'll see where life takes us!

THREE MONTHS:

Maisie turned three months on August 30th. I see why people say they grow up way too fast. It seems like just yesterday that she was born. But then I look at pictures of when she was firstborn, as compared to pictures of her now, and I just can't believe how much she is changing. She's still a very happy little girl, and a very calm baby, which we are so very thankful for!

She began reaching for toys and grabbing things several weeks ago. I took her to Iowa to meet her great-grandparents and she laid on their floor and suddenly reached over and grabbed a little toy. She'd been trying for a long time, but that was the first time she was successful. So cute! She loves to bury her little head into my chest when I hold her, which just melts my heart. She hasn't rolled over yet, but she's working on it like a mad woman. If she could just get the upper part of her body to communicate with the lower part, she'd be a rolling machine! :) She was twelve pounds, two ounces as of last week, so she seems to be growing really well.

I started back at work last week, which has been a tough adjustment, but we're getting through it. Maisie is still at home with Dan, so that has helped the transition. I still miss her like crazy when I'm at work, and I hardly put her down between the time I get home and the time she goes to bed! I just love her to pieces.

September 7, 2008 -- Yay for Maisie! I'm such a proud mama... Maisie rolled over for the first time this evening! I had brought her over to my grandmother's and she was laying on the floor, working so hard on rolling over, but she just couldn't figure out what to do with her shoulder. We put her back on the floor after we got home, and she worked and worked at it until finally... she did it! She looked so cute laying there, grunting and tensing her muscles... I am so proud of her!

September 11, 2008 -- Maisie laughed for the first time when I was blowing on her tummy! Sooo cute!

September 15th, 2008 -- Maisie started rolling from her back to her front last week, but today she kept on rolling, and rolled from her front to her back! My little girl is growing so quickly!

FOUR MONTHS:

It’s hard to believe my little girl is already four months old! Maisie continues to grow like a weed and amaze Dan & I every day. At her four month checkup she weighed 13 lbs, 13 oz and was almost 24 inches, which put her at about the 50% for height and weight. She started rolling over last month, and now she’s basically obsessed with being on her stomach. It’s made diaper changes a bit challenging! She’s still smiley as ever and giggles when we play with her. I just can’t wait to come home after work each day to see her. It melts my heart when she gives me that big gummy grin when I walk in the door. Now if only I could get that hair on her head to grow a little… I swear she had more hair on her head when she was born! She’s still adorable with her little cue-ball head. Life is good... J

FIVE MONTHS:
Maisie is still the cutest little peanut I've ever seen. She's a really happy little baby who just goes with the flow. We did our first overnight trip with her a few weeks ago, and she did just great. Hardly made a peep as we toted her around from place to place. She's finally consistently sleeping about 11-12 hours at night, which has made me very happy! She's rolling both directions, and is really good at grabbing things... and of course putting them straight in her mouth once she gets them into her hands.
I'm actually still breastfeeding, though we've had to introduce formula due to my milk supply decreasing since I've been back at work. I think I'm finally burning out on pumping during the day, and will likely just start breastfeeding her in the morning and evening.
Maisie was a flower for Halloween. Truth be told, she wasn't too excited about having a flower hat on her head. But she was a good sport about it anyway, and let Dan & I take her around trick-or-treating. She fell asleep in my arms before I could even get her costume off. Too cute...

November 9th, 2008 - I felt Maisie's first tooth popping through! She's been drooling a lot, but other than that I wouldn't have even known she was teething. She hasn't been any more fussy than usual, or anything like that.
See Maisie in action!

I NORMALLY USE THE PRILOSEC, BUT SINCE I GOT PREGNANT I CAN'T ANYMORE. IT'S NOT GOOD FOR THE BABY. SO I'M GONNA ASK MY DOCTOR AGAIN TOMORROW, ABOUT WHAT ELSE I CAN TAKE. I HOPE EVERYTHING IS WELL FOR YOU.

BABYJENNIFER - Wednesday, 30 Jan
coffee! just make sure its decaf.

SophieSoph - Wednesday, 30 Jan
Hi! Yeah, we feel so much better. I should've just called the peri's office right away but you know how intimidating doctors can be. This time the peri really took his time to show us everything and wouldn't move on until we understood what we were looking at. It was so nice of him to do that. Anyway, it's just a huge relief. How are you feeling? It's so great you're feeling movement now! A lot of the time I don't feel actual kicks either but the amazing thing is this morning the baby was just going nuts and I could see my belly quivering with every movement. It went on for about 20 minutes. I just couldn't stop giggling watching it and that just seemed to make him kick and punch me more. My husband missed the whole thing. :( I suppose he'll have plenty of opportunity to see it though. How are your classes going?

ACK! - Wednesday, 30 Jan
Actually, after doing some more research, looks like this could be pretty dangerous stuff. Women are also using it in place of Botox, so it is pretty strong. I can't wait to use it after giving birth though! Supposedly it is the best on the market right now. It really did fix the two marks that I had.

padow - Tuesday, 29 Jan
That's a neat idea. And I like the philosophy. My DH and I are planning to move a month after the baby comes, so we are finding out to help with the planning, only. That, and I can't see myself not wanting to know! I have the 'big' u/s on Feb. 6th...next Wed. I am excited. At first, I was ALL boy, but then I prepared myself for a girl, and then I was more confident that it would be a boy (all first borns are boys in the history of John's family) but then I was sad it might not be a girl...obviously, I don't have a clue!! But I am excited to have a happy and healthy little bundle of joy! So, are you feeling any movement or is the placenta still in the way?? Hope you are doing good. It's nice to hear from you...anytime! I just LOVE this website! R U feeling all right??

deerwendy - Tuesday, 29 Jan
Thank you so much for the level 2 u/s, I feel better now. And as for feeling old? I almost died when they were scheduling the u/s the said ' advanced maternal age.' All I could think of was, why don't you say old and decrepit, or nursing home ready? Ugh!! My husband was laughing, I felt like telling him, well, your almost 42 so I don't think I would be talking!

ugh, health insurance is a pain! plus zach found out that open enrollment already passed so i cant go on his insurance! ughhhh. im gonna have to call up the team member service line and beg and if that doesnt work then ill have to do cobra. i know people said medicaid but i just really dont want to go that route. if i did id lose my doctor, too. im only going to need cobra for a little bit so i hope it isnt too bad. do you pay all at once and they reimburse you? ugh, i dont need stress right now. anyways, you feeling anymore movement yet?! im feeling it more and more. not really stronger though. i feel like ive gotten big! ill have to post pics soon.

Nursey - Monday, 28 Jan
Aww, don't worry that baby is 13 oz at 19 weeks. It doesn't necessarily mean that you will have a whopper of babe. Time will tell - how big were you and your husband when you were both born? Sometimes that can help point you in the 'guessing direction' of how large your baby will be! As you get closer to your due date (ie. after 34 weeks), ask your Ob-Gyne how large s/he thinks your baby is. At 39 weeks, mine guessed 61/2 to 71/2 lbs. His range was good - Aiden was 6 lbs 14 oz!!
Thanks for the well wishes, love! Hope all is well with you!

Hi Minneapolis! My ultrasound went fine! My baby is very healthy and 'grossly' normal. We found out we are having another boy....no mistaking it! I had the u/s at the hospital I work at, and they're giving us the CD of pics for no charge because I'm a nurse there! Yay! I am so relieved that baby is healthy - that's all I cared about. However, I really thought that I was having a girl! I am not disappointed in the least...just shocked that I was wrong! :)

cherryb0m - Sunday, 27 Jan
I think I am going to try prenatal yoga. They offer classas at my hospital, and beginners are welcome. I think it will be nice to meet some more mommies-to-be too. :-)

haze - Sunday, 27 Jan
Thanx. Will do that on my next appointment definately. I got so worried about it after going thru some new sftuff about caffeine and pregnancy and decided to hear how others think about it. Am still very nauseaus and tea makes me concentrate on my thesis without wanting to throw up or spit. Thanx for the info. Do yu know what yu a carrying now. i still am not. still to wait for another week

sexymama021 - Sunday, 27 Jan
Thank you for your advice :)

awww im glad you finally felt something! its really hard to distinguish what it is the first few times you feel it. i had my appt today! all is well. doctor said im having an 'extremly normal' pregnancy. all they really did was ask questions and do the fetal doppler thing. 150bpm! he said at my 18 week scan the baby weighed 8 oz but i looked on the 18 week page on here and it says at that week they should weight 5.25 ounces. week 20 says 9 ounces so if i add the 4 ounces that it adds between the two weeks my little one would be 12. haha, can you tell i got nervous and totally reworked the whole thing in my head? when he said 8 oz the first thing i thought was your comment saying 13 oz! but then i realized that mine was done the 1st day of my 18th week. talk about worrier!!! i swear ill never stop! anyways, do you feel any bigger lately? i feel like i have definitly popped! ill have to post pics.

emily- - Wednesday, 23 Jan
Congrats on your pregnancy!! When do you find out what your having? Yeah Im going to have to ask my OB about the weight of baby! Everyone I talk to says theres is 7-9oz! Here mine is 12oz!! Im scared! lol Let me know if you ask your OB!

raindrop0208 - Wednesday, 23 Jan
HI! My little sister was a 10 lb baby! Now at 25 yrs old she is only 5'3' and very petite! Me on the other hand...was 7lbs at birth but now I'm 5'6'! strange =)

preciousangels2 - Wednesday, 23 Jan
Law school?? Wow. Congrats! What a busy and exciting time for you! Pregnant and graduating!!

preciousangels2 - Wednesday, 23 Jan
I wish I had the will power to wait to find out but I was sooo excited I couldn't wait! If I already had a girl and a boy, then I wouldn't have wanted to find out, since I already had both. But, now I will have two boys. So, next time I will definitely have to find out. lol, my husband only wants two kids, but I want three. We'll see how having 2 goes. lol. I'm glad that everything looked great on the ultrasound. They said mine looked really good too. Which is such a relief after having two m/c and the problems with bleeding that I had in the beginning. I can't wait to see what my little man looks like and to hold him in my arms! Do you guys have any names picked out?

wowwowmomma - Wednesday, 23 Jan
My u/s is next Wednesday. Also just to check if everything is okay. Sure it is. Baby is moving around in there and my daughter felt him/her kick the other day. First one other than me to feel movement. So you don't know what it is yet. Sure if your husband says he saw male parts thats what he saw!! He should know what they look like! They are so cute sometimes, our big babies. Almost halfway and from here on time always seems to stand still and then they're born and time flies again. Hope you feel the kicking soon.

padow - Wednesday, 23 Jan
Well, it is a great accomplishment, regardless of what you choose to do with it. Honors, huh?? Too cool! So, at your u/s they couldn't tell what it is? When is your next one? My 'big' onw is on Feb 6th. I am excited. I've been up since 4:30 dreaming about baby clothes. It's probably because I donated some items for a program that they have at the military hospital here that gives a gift bag to younger families after a birth. We went through all the cute clothes last night at a function. I am getting so much more excited and reality is really setting in. Take care of yourself and let me know how you are doing. And when you know what the little bundle is!

SophieSoph - Wednesday, 23 Jan
Hi! My u/s was done by my perinatologist. I also started with the genetic counseling and the the peri came in, did the scan in less than 10 minutes and told us everything was fine. He's a very well respected doctor and a pioneer in something called genetic ultrasound (basically I think it's a level 2) so I should have more confidence but reading that other people had 45-minute or longer u/s makes me nervous. I'm probably just talking myself into a panic. lol. I tried calling my regular ob today but they just dismissed my question and said my peri is very thorough. I'm going to try to call the peri's office tomorrow to see if I can get some info out of them. He did check all the organs like you said and spent the most time on the heart but I don't think he looked closely at the hands and feet. So annoying. I don't know, maybe he did and I just couldn't tell what he was looking at. I hear what you're saying about certain tests being ordered merely because we are 35. I can't help but wonder if it was less stressful back in the day when there were no u/s, no blood tests, and no amnios. Lol. By the way, I saw your post in 19 weeks about fetal weight. My little boy weighed 9 oz. and my doc told me that puts him in the 45th percentile. I don't know what the top of the scale is but I bet your baby is right there. You just have a very healthy little one! :) I've been feeling kicks externally now and my husband felt one for the first time the other day. The kicks come and go though. I'll feel a lot one day and then almost nothing the next. How about you? Sorry for venting - I hope you're doing well!

lolabean08 - Wednesday, 23 Jan
yes i had mine scan done at 19wks 5days and he was measuring 11oz and +4 days which would make him right at 20+weeks also!!! so i think the estimates are wrong on here!!!

copmom2b - Tuesday, 22 Jan
I just got back from my level II and it went great. I didn't sleep a wink last night b/c I was no nervous for it. They said everything looks perfect!!!!! I'm so excited!!! I didn't find out the sex, but they wrote it down for me in an envelope that my husband and I locked away in our safe. They said that the baby is 9' long and weighs about 12 oz or so. Time is ticking...I just can't wait to meet him or her!

nmck - Tuesday, 22 Jan
Hey, I know the feeling. After getting out of the pool yesterday, I felt like I needed a nap! We will get back in shape one day!! Good luck with the Yoga.

SophieSoph - Tuesday, 22 Jan
Hi! I saw your post. Congrats on your healthy little one!! You must be on cloud 9. Your pictures are so great! I love the little buddha belly on your little bean. Just curious - how long was your actual scan? My doc only spent about 10 minutes - I feel slightly cheated. I know he was thorough but I can't help but feel like he flew through the scan. Anyway, congrats again!!
