MAISIE PAULINE

Due Date: June 13th, 2008

Born: May 30th, 2008 at 6:34 am

Stats: 7 lbs, 4.9 oz -- 19 3/4 inches

She's a gorgeous girl with a little dark brown hair and blue eyes... she stole mommy and daddy's heart from the first moment we laid eyes on her!

ONE MONTH:

Whew! What a whirlwind month it's been! Maisie is a really good baby and we're so happy she's a part of our family. Dan and I have studied her from top to bottom and have concluded she's perfect. :) She seems to have mom's dark hair, eyes, and toes, and dad's mouth and temperament. Overall she looks a bit more like dad than like mom.

Maisie has pretty much smiled from day one. She's a very happy little baby who, like all newborns, likes to eat, sleep & cuddle with mom and dad! She loves bathtime. She often does the "Popeye-eye,"" which is when she opens one eye first when she wakes up. When she's hungry and I put her over my shoulder, she bobs her head back & forth, like a bird does when they're looking for food. It's so cute! Being a mother is the greatest feeling in the world, and I'm loving every moment of it!

TWO MONTHS:

Maisie is still the cutest little peanut I've ever seen! At her two month checkup she weighed 10 lbs, 5 oz. It's funny because that's about the size they thought she would be when she was born... now she's just reaching that weight at 2 mos of age. It's amazing how wrong the ultrasound technicians were about her size. But since she was such a little peanut when she was born, she definitely looks like she's filling out a lot now. Her little face is a bit pudgier, and her arms and legs have a few little rolls on them. So cute! Her hair is getting just a bit thicker, and she still has beautiful blue eyes.

She's also been interacting with Dan and I more and more each day. She imitates our facial expressions. Dan sticks his tongue out at her and she does it back. I tend to smile at her with my mouth wide open and she smiles the same way back at me. She definitely knows who I am too. She follows me with her eyes when Dan is holding her and I am walking throughout the room. Melts my heart! She also turns her head toward my voice when I walk into a room.

I'm still breastfeeding and enjoying that, even though it is a bit time consuming. I have no idea how I'd do it if I had another child in the home. Speaking of which... I swear I'm already ready to start trying for #2! Dan isn't anywhere near that point, so we'll be probably waiting at least a year. Actually if Dan had his way, Maisie would be an only child. We'll see where life takes us!

Maisie at two months:

THREE MONTHS:

Maisie turned three months on August 30th. I see why people say they grow up way too fast. It seems like just yesterday that she was born. But then I look at pictures of when she was firstborn, as compared to pictures of her now, and I just can't believe how much she is changing. She's still a very happy little girl, and a very calm baby, which we are so very thankful for!

She began reaching for toys and grabbing things several weeks ago. I took her to Iowa to meet her great-grandparents and she laid on their floor and suddenly reached over and grabbed a little toy. She'd been trying for a long time, but that was the first time she was successful. So cute! She loves to bury her little head into my chest when I hold her, which just melts my heart. She hasn't rolled over yet, but she's working on it like a mad woman. If she could just get the upper part of her body to communicate with the lower part, she'd be a rolling machine! :) She was twelve pounds, two ounces as of last week, so she seems to be growing really well.

I started back at work last week, which has been a tough adjustment, but we're getting through it. Maisie is still at home with Dan, so that has helped the transition. I still miss her like crazy when I'm at work, and I hardly put her down between the time I get home and the time she goes to bed! I just love her to pieces.

September 7, 2008 -- Yay for Maisie! I'm such a proud mama... Maisie rolled over for the first time this evening! I had brought her over to my grandmother's and she was laying on the floor, working so hard on rolling over, but she just couldn't figure out what to do with her shoulder. We put her back on the floor after we got home, and she worked and worked at it until finally... she did it! She looked so cute laying there, grunting and tensing her muscles... I am so proud of her!

September 11, 2008 -- Maisie laughed for the first time when I was blowing on her tummy! Sooo cute!

September 15th, 2008 -- Maisie started rolling from her back to her front last week, but today she kept on rolling, and rolled from her front to her back! My little girl is growing so quickly!

FOUR MONTHS:

It’s hard to believe my little girl is already four months old! Maisie continues to grow like a weed and amaze Dan & I every day. At her four month checkup she weighed 13 lbs, 13 oz and was almost 24 inches, which put her at about the 50% for height and weight. She started rolling over last month, and now she’s basically obsessed with being on her stomach. It’s made diaper changes a bit challenging! She’s still smiley as ever and giggles when we play with her. I just can’t wait to come home after work each day to see her. It melts my heart when she gives me that big gummy grin when I walk in the door. Now if only I could get that hair on her head to grow a little… I swear she had more hair on her head when she was born! She’s still adorable with her little cue-ball head. Life is good... J

FIVE MONTHS:
Maisie is still the cutest little peanut I've ever seen. She's a really happy little baby who just goes with the flow. We did our first overnight trip with her a few weeks ago, and she did just great. Hardly made a peep as we toted her around from place to place. She's finally consistently sleeping about 11-12 hours at night, which has made me very happy! She's rolling both directions, and is really good at grabbing things... and of course putting them straight in her mouth once she gets them into her hands.
I'm actually still breastfeeding, though we've had to introduce formula due to my milk supply decreasing since I've been back at work. I think I'm finally burning out on pumping during the day, and will likely just start breastfeeding her in the morning and evening.
Maisie was a flower for Halloween. Truth be told, she wasn't too excited about having a flower hat on her head. But she was a good sport about it anyway, and let Dan & I take her around trick-or-treating. She fell asleep in my arms before I could even get her costume off. Too cute...

November 9th, 2008 - I felt Maisie's first tooth popping through! She's been drooling a lot, but other than that I wouldn't have even known she was teething. She hasn't been any more fussy than usual, or anything like that.
See Maisie in action!

Woo Hoo Mrs. Minneapolis! I was thinking of you today, knowing you were having your ultrasound! I'm so glad that everything is fine and that mom & baby are healthy! U/S's are fabulous, aren't they? Mine is on Wednesday....looking forward to it! My maternal blood screen was fine, lowest possible chance for Down's Syndrome. I'm hoping that like you, the U/S will show healthy organs for baby! S/he is poking a lot....loves it when I work the night shift....I feel him/her most then! I've just had problems with dizziness/fainting this trimester....I have low blood pressure and low glucose levels...I guess my pancreas is very efficient! And other than fatigue, I'm fine!
By the way, ace pics! LOVE your belly!
Stay warm during this cold snap, love. And good luck writing the Bar....you will be called!!
xxNursey

Congratulations on good u/s. I am having my big u/s on Feb 15 - kind of worried, what if they find something wrong. It is interesting that you don't feel any kicks because of the placenta. Maybe this is the reason for me also. When I had CVS, they did it through my abdomen, because the placenta was on the front wall. So maybe it is blocking the kicks for me also. Hope so. Everybody reports kicks since 14 weeks and I'm 18 wks and still not sure. Happy pregnancy:)

padow - Tuesday, 22 Jan

copmom2b - Monday, 21 Jan
Congratulations!!!! I don't even know you and I found myself wondering how your appt. went. That is such great news!!! I can only imagine how relieved you must feel!!! Did they say how big your little one was, and how much S/he weighed? My appt is tomorrow at 7:45 am and hopefully my news will be as good as yours!!!!

knockoutmom - Monday, 21 Jan
im feeling the same about the baby being laid back. except yesterday though! i actually felt her a little harder but its still nothing that i wouldnt of felt if i wasnt laying down and waiting for it. if i hunch over when i sit or lay down i feel her sometimes. we were at zachs parents house last night and as soon as his mom put her hand on my stomach she kicked or poked her! she didnt feel it though. then later on laying down i felt her poking me and put zachs hand on it and he finally felt it! it hasnt happened since though. i wish it was a regular thing cause it was a really cool feeling! who knows though. let me know how the doctor went!! i scan my pics and put them up whenever i have u/s pics by the way. i dont know if you have a scanner or not but its pretty easy. although zach still has to help me do it cause everytime i do it it turns out too dark! oh well, let me know how it went!

nmck - Monday, 21 Jan
hey! I totally understand what you mean about not being emotionally ready to exercise. I was afraid too. That is why I settled on the pool...low impact, etc. It felt great this morning! I didn't do anything too strenuous, but that is an hour I could have been doing nothing so I feel better. I hope you are feeling good!! Good luck.

wowwowmomma - Monday, 21 Jan
Hi all. I don't know for sure but with all my girls we couldn't tell the sex because they were keeping their legs crossed. The last time I even told the doc that it's a girl if she behaves like that. With my sister's two pregnancies they were both spreading them wide and they were boys. Must be a man thing. I also find that my belly is huge by the end of the day and the next morning when I wake up I am almost flat. Never fear by midday I am back to my humungus preportions. Still don't want to know the sex yet, but reading all your notes I am really just as exited for all of you. And I'm starting to itch to find our. Good luck to you all.

baconbits - Monday, 21 Jan
Hi there! So your a gym rat? I was, too, with my 1st. I watch other girls running and I miss it so much! You're right not to push it though. It's not about you right now, it's about the baby. We'll get our figure back when we're ready. We got prego 9mo after my first born...right when I was getting back into the gym & running!? But I was still swimming 2 days before I delivered! The best part was that the water takes away the lower back strain! I could've lived in the pool that last month! Hmmm.

copmom2b - Monday, 21 Jan
Hey there, good luck with your appt tomorrow. I'm sure you're very excited. Mine is Tuesday at 7:45am and I too am very, very excited!!!!! Also, Good luck with the bar. If I didn't get accepted to the police academy law school was going to be my plan B. Thankfully, I was accepted and I've been a PA State Trooper for about 6 years now. It's a difficult profession to try to start a family in, but so far things are going okay. Please let me know how your appointment goes tomorrow.

holly28 - Sunday, 20 Jan
good luck on the bar BTW :-)

holly28 - Sunday, 20 Jan
Thank you so much for your support and understanding. I know exactly what you mean. 15 hour days used to be a standard for me. But now, *sigh* I just can't do it. It seems like I can't handle more than about 4 hours and I am done. This makes working full time as well as doing 2 other private contracts extremely difficult...but I have to do what I have to do.

knockoutmom - Sunday, 20 Jan
today is actually another snowstorm! well, if you wanna call it storm. haha. its such a nice change. im so tired lately!! i dont wanna move off the couch for anything except to look out the window or to eat. ive also been getting what im pretty sure are round ligament pains in my lower stomach. they kinda hurt! i think ive gotten bigger until this morning i got out of bed and zach was like 'oh, the baby must be lying a different way because you dont look as big as you did yesterday.' and sadly i got mad him for saying that! it hurt my feelings! i really wanna have that belly and i was so sure i did! haha! i eat a lot now too which probaly has a lot to do with the bulging belly! no movement though yesterday or today. im not too worried though oddly enouugh. come week 23 i'll start to worry though. thats my cut off point for starting to worry! haha. only a couple more days til your scan!! you still unsure about finding out the sex? which reminds me, i really need to post my ultrasound pics! i keep forgetting. at least i have a good excuse though!

ylindsay - Saturday, 19 Jan
-That is also what my midwife told me. She doesn't seemed worried at all. The heartbeat is strong, I guess that is at least reassuring. I hope everything goes well with you too.

preciousangels2 - Saturday, 19 Jan
Thanks! Have you found out or are you going to find out what you're having? I was hoping for a girl, but I'm in love with my little man already!

catsa79 - Saturday, 19 Jan
hi! i'm not stressing bout the movement thing as you really not supposed to be able to feel it properly until 20+ weeks. Today after my last post I notice that I have started a bit of leaking of fluid from my breasts so they are obviously developing but just not gettn huge LOL!!! you take care too..

padow - Friday, 18 Jan
HA! The dr. said that the baby must be modest...I said 'nah...John's the father!' It was pretty funny! I have heard it all, it seems like! The heartbeat has been between 150 and 160 for mine...I will just have to see. My MIL thinks it's a girl and my youngest BIL assumes that if it was a boy, it wouldn't have had it's legs crossed...dunno. I will be patient. When will you find out what it is?? I understand your feelings about telling people. A lot of my friends know, but when people look at me, they still can't really tell. Am trying to watch the weight. So far, so good. R U planning on going back to work after baby? How is school going? I am still working on my bach degree and will finish a month after little one is here. I am excited, just a little stressed from school starting up again. Somehow, I'll get through it...hope you are feeling great, still! Let me know...

SophieSoph - Friday, 18 Jan
Thank you! I'm still in a state of shock because everyone in my family thought we were having a girl. Lol. The u/s was interesting - I honestly had such a hard time figuring out what I was looking at that I feel like I missed the whole thing. For most of it, he was turned towards my back so we didn't get to see his little face. :( I was really looking forward to that. I think I'm going to check out one of those private places when I get closer to 30 weeks. Good luck on your scan on Monday! You're so incredibly patient to be able to wait to find out the sex but I think it's great. It was the best feeling to hear from the doc that the baby is healthy & perfect - you will soon find out! Hope you're surviving barbri!

Nursey - Friday, 18 Jan
Hahahaha! Lucky Charms! That's an awesome craving!!! So you're having your U/S on Monday - I hope all goes well! It'll be neat to see baby! Mine is on Wednesday, we'll likely find out the gender, but keep it between us.....this should be interesting....my hubby finds it very hard to keep a secret like that! I'm hoping he sticks to his promise! But who knows, maybe we won't be able to see the gender! It happens.
Well take care and we'll chat more soon!
xxNursey

thebigtomato - Thursday, 17 Jan
Yeah. I guess little boys start playing down there early! :)

knockoutmom - Thursday, 17 Jan
awww you will do great! i sometimes wonder if my feelings are my baby or just my mind. i only feel them when i sit down and the top of my pants press on my stomach. never standing up at all! and if it is then why hasnt the feeling gotten stronger? its been about two weeks (so i think). i almost just hope it isnt the baby moving. all these women have these heart felt stories about feeling so amazed and loving when they feel that big first kick, and here i am just stressing! no big anything! ugh! anyways, ive been so sick lately. i have what i thought was a 2nd cold but i went to my regular doc yesterday and she said it was a double ear infection and really bad congested sinuses! so im on claritin and an antibiotic. thank god! im miserable!! its our first snow day for the year here in charlotte! of course the city has just about shut down and everyones freaking out. haha! its funny. we have a dusting of snow and freezing rain as of now. i miss chicago because of the snow! i bet you guys have had tons up there! i just saw that minneapolis was like 4 degrees the other day! how do you do it?

copmom2b - Wednesday, 16 Jan
Sorry it's taken me so long to respond to your post. I went ahead and got my genetic tests done and thank God all went well. My sister who is 42, and my brother and his wife who are both 32, had them done and they recommended an amneo for both of them. Both of them held the position that you did and said that it really didn't matter b/c they were going to have their children regardless and both of their children are fine. All that to say, if I were you I wouldn't get too excited b/c you may be doing yourself a favor by waiting it out.

KariLynn - Wednesday, 16 Jan
Hello again :) I am glad there are others out there waiting along with me. I get a lot of positive feedback from people of the older generations as well. People my age can't believe I am waiting. I am like you in that I figure I can buy non gender stuff in the beginning and for the nursery. I just cant wait for the next 21 weeks to go by to meet my baby :) I hope all is well for you. Take care!

nmck - Wednesday, 16 Jan
Good luck with your U/S! Some people told me I should have eaten a meal first. I have heard that caffeine makes them move around too much, but food helps. My baby was resting and wouldn't move around too much. Ironically, at 4 am, he or she started moving around like crazy... already taking after dad, being obstinate!! Haha! Hope yours goes very well. Good luck!
