I figure now that I'm almost in the 2nd trimester, I should actually put something on this page! My husband and I are expecting our 1st child June 13th 2008 and we are very excited. We decided to get advanced degrees before we started our family, so I'm very thankful that it was able to work out that way. I will be done with school in February. I'm appreciative of this website and the opportunity to 'chat' with other women who are also expecting.

Above is a picture of me, my husband and our current "baby," Theo the cat. We hope he won't be too jealous of the new arrival in June!

I feel like I should clarify my above entry... I said I'm pregnant with my 1st child, but I really meant I don't have any living children yet. I did have a miscarriage earlier this year. So really this is my 2nd pregnancy. I felt the need to clarify, because when I re-read my entry, I felt that I was being disrespectful to the child I lost. It was a very painful experience to go through, but somehow I've made it through. It helped that I was able to get pregnant again right away.
I'm feeling pretty good these days, nausea is pretty much gone, although I'm still pretty tired. I think part of it is just being emotionally drained from thinking of the exciting changes that are ahead!
I've managed to stay out of maternity clothes so far, but I don't know much longer that'll last. I feel like my tummy is sticking out more than usual. I've also tried to hold off on buying baby clothes, but I think I'll be breaking down soon!
Best of luck to everyone!

Had my 14 week appointment today and got to hear the heartbeat again! S/he apparently likes to lay on my right side, since that past 3 times that's where they've found the heartbeat. I'm feeling really great these days, just waiting for my belly to 'pop' one of these days!
Now that I'm done with finals I have told most of my friends our big news, but I still haven't told my work. I'll probably break down and tell them soon. For some reason I'm finding it hard to picture walking around and telling all of my co-workers that I'm pregnant. Not quite sure why, since I've loved being able to tell everyone else.

We had our level 2 ultrasound today and were so relieved to hear the doctor say that everything looked just great! There wasn `t a single sign of any type of birth defect or anything else concerning. We were so relieved. I drank a bit of coffee before I went, and the baby was moving around like crazy! S/he would kick at the ultrasound wand when the tech would dig it into my abdomen. As my husband said, it looks like s/he is already a bit feisty, just like mom! :) We were just so relieved to see that everything went well. In fact, they actually decreased my odds of having a baby with downs or other abnormalities because everything looked so good. I also found out that I `m probably not feeling much movement yet because the placenta is directly in front of my belly button, so it `s covering the area where I `d feel the kicks. I `m also measuring at about 20 wks, 2 days, but they `ll still keep my due date the same for now. Now I just can `t wait to meet him/her!

Thursday, 21 Feb
Had my appointment today & was pleased to hear that everything seems to be going well. Heartbeat was 16O, which is the highest it `s ever been! My dr also commented that `he ` is very active... we were not trying to find out the gender, but everyone keeps saying he! I had my ultrasound done at a different place, and they said they don `t include the gender on the info they send my dr, so I have no idea if that was just a `guess ` on her part, or a `slip. ` Oh well, we `ll find out for sure in June! The only concerning thing for me is that I `ve gained 2O lbs. I think it really is mostly in my belly, but it `s pretty hard to hear that I `ve gained that much, and I `m not even 2/3 of the way done! Oh well, all for a good cause!

Thursday, 28 Feb
Well, I just spent the last 2 days taking the bar exam and I `m soooo happy it `s over! Taking the bar isn `t a treat regardless of the circumstances, but it was especially challenging being 24 wks pregnant. S/he was kicking me all throughout the exam which was just making me giggle. Of course I hope I passed, but more importantly I `m just happy to be done and able to finally focus on `baby-stuff. `

Monday, 10 Mar
Our good friends gave us their crib and changing table last night, and we set it up in the nursery. It really made everything feel so real - I found myself thinking that I couldn `t believe there `s going to be a baby in there in a few short months! It `s very exciting. Some other friends brought over some toys and other supplies, so I feel very lucky to have so many friends who are helping us out.I `m feeling pretty good these days, though sleeping is getting a bit more challenging. I `m feeling kicks pretty consistently, but I do still feel them more strongly some days than others. I look forward to feeling them on a regular basis.

Friday, 21 Mar

Passed my GD test today - thank goodness! I was really nervous for it, mainly because I feel like all I eat these days is sweets. The funny part is that s/he is literally laying sideways! No wonder my belly is oval-shaped. The doctor thinks the pressure I `ve been feeling under my left ribs is its little butt! It `s laying kind of bent over. They said there is plenty of time for it to turn so it `s not concerning at all. I have a feeling we `re in for quite a ride once s/he arrives... s/he is already marching to the beat of his/her own drum!

Thursday, 1 May

We had an appt today to find out why my fundal height was measuring so far ahead. I had an u/s first, and couldn't believe that my husband wasn't there by the time they called my name. I was starting to get worried because it's not like him to miss an appt. He's a teacher, and it turns out he had a big fight break out in his room just as he was about to leave for the appt, and he had to stay & suspend a few kids. He missed the whole u/s. He felt horrible too. I think the tech felt bad that he couldn't be there, so she threw in a few 4D pics of the baby's face. It just melted my heart! S/he is soooo cute already! S/he has chubby little cheeks, and the tech said s/he already has some hair! It's just amazing what they can see.

Then we met with the dr. She confirmed that the baby is very large, and she estimates it's about 6.5 lbs at this point. Yikes! If I went full-term, it'd probably be minimally 9.5 lbs. Depending on how much longer s/he stays in there, I may need a c-section. At first I was terrified at the idea, but then my dr explained some of the risks associated with vaginal birth with a baby that large, and I decided I'm just fine with the c-section! Nothing is set in stone yet, so we'll see what happens. I'll do anything to make sure s/he arrives here happy and healthy!

knockoutmom - Thursday, 20 Mar
hey! i have to go back for the 3 hour next thursday. thats so far away! i may call today and just see if i can get it done sooner than that. some women on here said their doctors said that their cutoff was 140, so i would have passed if i went to their them! im just so hooked on sugar that is bothering me so badly! zach and i both agreed that this is a wake up call for both of us to start eating a little better than we usually do though, so maybe there is some good out of this! oh yea, the morning of mine i ate a protein filled breakfast which makes numbers more accurate and still got that! i wouldnt go in on an empty stomach though. it is a lof of sugar! if you like sunkist youll like the drink. i didnt think it was bad at all! good luck and let me know!

Hi, thanks for your note! I'm feeling much better today but still a little anxious about having contractions like that again. My doc told me that until this UTI clears I could have more contractions. If that happens I have to go back for another shot of terbutaline. Did you enjoy your birthing class? I did until they showed the video. Wow, that was scary. I'm starting to think maybe I'm not normal! Lol. I was so bothered by the images of the baby's head coming out. It just looked so odd to me. Ugh, I hope I can get over this fear because I'd really like to enjoy the birth as much as possible and not be so squeamish! Did you have any of those kinds of feelings??

Andais - Thursday, 20 Mar
THANKS!

KariLynn - Wednesday, 19 Mar
Hey there :) I happened to see your post on knockoutmoms page, as I am a little snoopy lol. Anyhow you commented on not eating before. I really had no problems with my 3 hour test, and they make you fast for 14 hours before you even take the test. So I am sure that if you don't eat you will be alright. I drank quite a bit of water, both times, and that might have helped with having no effects. Hope things are going well for you :)

Hi! Thanks for the nice compliment. Actually I was scared silly before, but since I have to do things without meds, I probably made more of an effort to educate myself than I would have if I lived in Canada (where I would have gladly accepted the epidural). Now, I must say I'm starting to be glad that I will give birth naturally after all the research I've been doing. I love the hypnobabies program- the cds are relaxing and the messages so positive. There is a yahoo group too which is really supportive. I'm going for a painless childbirth and no epidural! Good luck! Our bodies are made for this AND the more you are afraid of something, the worse it gets right? (With anything). Same goes for birth- so surround yourself with positive birth stories and people if you can- that has helped me.

thebigtomato - Wednesday, 19 Mar
I hope your GD test goes well. GD's biggest risk seems to be a grossly large baby that can make vaginal delivery impossible. It can also hurt the baby trying to push it out. Plus, the baby is at high risk for its sugar level to be dangerously low after birth. Babies born to moms with GD also have a greater risk of respiratory problems. Can you tell I've been researching? :)

Sorry, my brain's not processing. Of course, you just graduated law school and I know that it takes awhile to get the BAR results back (my brother is a lawyer in L.A.). My parents were also big on education. My Dad was a public school teacher for 18 years before retiring and going into manufacturing. He had a Masters Degree and my Mom does too. My Masters is in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. You're right about the fact that you always have that - no one can take it away and what an accomplishment! I'll be crossing my fingers for you, but I'm sure you will pass with flying colors! Although I don't know how you concentrated while pregnant - my brain seems to frequently be MIA. I go to Dr. on Thursday AM - can't wait to see the baby. It still doesn't seem real, since I'm still not showing. Almost to my 2nd trimester - yeah! Keep in touch!

jobean38 - Tuesday, 18 Mar
Happy to help! I remember 5 yrs ago, one of my friends was pg with her 2nd - at 32 (k I was single at the time) and she said 'OMG I can't believe i'm having a baby at 32, I feel so old to be pregnant' I was like 'gee thanks!' Then I called her a hick LOL!

socalgal - Monday, 17 Mar
Hi there! If it's any consolation, I think people ask that ignorant 'natural' birth question at any age. What irritates me is that they mean 'vaginal.' I believe natural means natural--no pain killers or other drugs--which is a more valid question, but people love to ask if you're going to push the baby out. . . Like in the lasy century normal female vaginas became incapable of delivering babies and only super-human women can push theirs out or something.

I think people ask that Q so much these days because so many women have elective c sections and there is a myth out there that it is somehow easier and that delivering vaginally is more difficult. Of course that is ludicrous to think major abdominal surgery is 'easier' but what can you do? Especially your bro won't be able to understand-men are so clueless! Just laugh those people off. I think it is pretty funny that they are ignorant!

janean - Monday, 17 Mar
Oh it is so good to hear other people feeling the same!!!I am hoping there is relief soon once I can exercise again! I am ready to just hold her know and get this body back to normal! Good luck to you.

ack! - Friday, 14 Mar
Thank you so much for your supportive message. It was very encouraging. I am going to try my best to see this through.

Thank you so much for your reassuring comments! You're right about the sad stories can really bring you down, but that overall, I really love having the website to hear about others' stories and to have support when I need it.

Congrats to you - you're almost there. AND big congrats on passing the BAR, no small feat! I remember 10 years ago, receiving my MBA and 4 months later I got pregnant. Soon after, quit working and have been a stay-at-home mom ever since! I'm still really glad to have my advanced degree, even if I never use it for more than helping with homework. I swear my 4th grader is already almost over my head at times - I have to go back and look stuff up!

Again, thanks for posting and best wishes with your new family!

KariLynn - Wednesday, 12 Mar
HEY :) I hear ya about worrying!! I failed my one hour test, but everything else was going bad that day, so it was bound to happen lol. So as long as you are having a good day, you should be fine :) Again Good Luck !!

ellasmom - Wednesday, 12 Mar
I used the playtex nursers with the plastic liners with my first daughter....they are a godsend. You never have to sterilize a big bulky bottle....only the nipples. No air bubbles=no tummy ache for the baby. My daughter did great with them...so my baby boy will use them too. Probably the same bottles to be exact!!!! I LOVED the plastic liners and agree with pixikate...buy the silicone nipples if your baby will take them...they clean up so nice in the dishwasher. The latex (brown) ones get so discolored and start falling apart if you put them in the dishwasher.

pixiekate - Wednesday, 12 Mar
i nanny for an infant right now, and he is mostly breastfed, but when he's with me i bottle feed him. i like the bottles with the plastic drop-ins because you can squeeze all the air out of them so the baby doesn't get bubbles....also the Playtex brand doesn't use any harmful chemicals in the drop-in's, its explains on the website. glass bottles are good too! oh- and get cilicone nipples because you can throw those in the dishwasher!

ziggysmom - Wednesday, 12 Mar
hello I am from week 25 but I read your post about plastic bottles and I am concerned as well, my mother in law gave me the lowdown on it and now I am paranoid I looked around and cant find any glass bottles but did find a brand of plastics at babies r us that say they are free of that chemical. I didnt get the name but wanted to let you know to check out babies r us and see if you can find what I saw.

KariLynn - Wednesday, 12 Mar
I will keep my fingers crossed, I was so excited when I found out. Good luck to you :) Is yours the 3 hour?? If it is, bring lots to read!!

knockoutmom - Tuesday, 11 Mar
i read your post about falling over while bending down and i did the exact same thing today at our mailbox! i dropped some mail so i squatted down and literally just toppled over without warning! thankfully no one was around but getting up by myself was horrible! i felt like a turtle who had fallen on their shell! haha. how are your movements doing? mine definitly change day to day and i hate it! it gets me so nervous on days like today where she relaxes and doesnt kick too much. it seems like all she has room to do now is squirm and not kick! i hope shes not that big yet!

knockoutmom - Tuesday, 11 Mar
 awww you look great!

mommi2b - Monday, 10 Mar
I know what you mean - sometimes the reality of all this hits me and it's so scary. It seems so unreal - like, I'm gonna have a BABY in a few months! How crazy is that? I don't know anything about babies!...it's terrifying and exciting all in one!
I'm leaving for FL tomorrow afternoon - woohoo!!! I miss it so much! Just about all my family's down there. Going down for my baby shower - can't wait! I'm so looking forward to working on my laptop out on the patio in the warm sun!!! I really need a little vaca right now too :)
How have you been feeling?

padow - Monday, 10 Mar
Also...glad you finally registered. I think it will make your life a little easier, even if just a little. Yeah, I asked my friend 'which one??' and then did that. You can always change it...I've been given a few things so far and will definately modify the registry once I get more and figure out the other essentials....I don't want too many clothes. She's not going to stay small forever...:( Have a great day!

padow - Monday, 10 Mar
OH...my belly is really poking out now and I think about my weight all the time. Trying to stay near 25 lb. gain, but I don't think that is going to happen. Need to be walking on a consistent basis....and stop worrying all the time about it!! I am feeling good. Heartburn and constipation, but loving this precious angel! Yes, I am feeling lots of different movements now. Pretty regular...it takes a bit to get them on a consistent basis, and didn't it take you a little because of your position?? It will come...and it will still amaze you every time! :) Any news on the bar????? And how are you doing these days??!
