Birth Story
On tuesday morning i woke up at 8.30am with a few twinges but nothing unbearable by 9.00 i was having them every 5 mins so thought i better ring the hospital and ring my partner to get back from work (3 hours away). The hospital told me that i was probably not in labour and to just have a bath and some paracetamol.
So i ran a bath and got in. Within about 5 mins that contractions were getting really painful and were only four mins apart so i got my mum to ring the hospital and tell them i was coming in. My sis and mum came with me to the hospital and in the car my contractions were painful and three mins apart.
When we got to the hospital they put me on a monitor and said that they'd see if i was in labour. Then i had a really painful contraction which made me throw up and then i felt a big pop inside me - my waters had broken. When the midwife came back in she said - oh yes looks like you are in labour then! Duh!?!?! When she checked i was 7-8cm dilated.
They moved me to the delivery room about 11 and i got on my hands and knees on the bed. They gave me gas and air but it made me feel sick and i could get to grips with breathing back into it so i gave up on that. After a while i started feeling really tired so i changed positions to on my back on the bed. Then it was time to push! After about 20 mins of pushing young Alfie was born at 12.40pm! They put him up onto my chest and because my partner had not made it in time my mum cut the cord.
What a lovely labour ...
...except after i delievered my placenta i had a bad bleed. They took Alfie off me and i had to go to surgery - the doctors around me kept saying they were going t have to remove my womb if they couldn't control the bleeding. It was horrible.
I woke up 4 hours later in recovery. They said that they thought they'd stopped the bleed but had to monitor me closely overnight in intensive care incase i bled again and because i'd had 8 units of blood. So i still didn't get to see Alfie =( My partner had arrived just as i was going into theatre and had been looking after Alfie - i have to admit he did a fantastic job!
The next day i was moved onto a ward where i was allowed to see Alfie which was lovely =)
4 days later i was allowed home. Although it didn't go exactly to plan. It was still worth every second. Alfie is amazing and i love him so so so much! Good Luck to all you ladies waiting to give birth! Take Care xxxxxx
