BIRTH STORY

I went to the hospital on Monday 3rd March to be induced and was given 2 doses to soften the servix. Nothing much happened that day but by the teusday morning my cervix had dialated enough for them to break my waters. That was a very painful procedure! There was no sign of contractions so I had to go on the drip that afternoon to start my contractions and by about 5 pm they had started. I didnt want any painkillers except for gas and air. My contractions got really painfull later that night and it felt like i needed to push so the midwife checked to see how dialated I was. It turns out I was only two cm dialated. That was a very disshartening moment and that is when I decided I wanted some painkillers. I was told that the baby had become stuck and could not be born naturally and I needed an emergency C-section, this was terrifying but my husband and the medical staff where brilliant and put me a ease. at 00.29am wednesday morning Thomas Harvey was born and the c-section was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I stayed in the hospital for five days and came home on the friday. He is so delightfull and we are all in love with him and cannot imagine life without him, the diabetes and the difficult labour does not even matter any more and it is nearly forgoten. Good luck to all of you still wating for your babies they will soon be here!

I forgot to say that he weighed 8lb 8oz. The midwives all bet that he weighed about 10lb ! but I was carrying a lot of water.

My baby is two weeks old now and I cannot believe how quickly time is flying by. I am still recovering from the c-section which is a pain when you have other children to look after. We are managing to get the hang of breast feeding and my nipples are not as sore as they where a few days ago. That is a relief because I really want to breast feed exclusively for six months. I will be going back to work so I will introduce formula as well as breast feed at this point i think, although nothing works out like you plan.

Oh my gosh, that is sooooo cute!! Nathan is just starting to really smile at me. It's almost like the lighting on me has to be just right for him to really take a good look at me. I still think he's a few weeks behind. His pediatrician said the few weeks early could definitely be the reason.

Nathan is doing much better now. How is Thomas? Do you call him Tommy at all?

You can get it at any health food store. I don't think they have it at the regular grocery stores, but I could be wrong. You just have to make sure you get the ones for infants since thier gut has different bacteria in it than adults. Do you have a whole foods or wild oats?

Thomas and Nathan were born on the same day :)

Hi there. My Nathan had his 2 month shots yesterday and he is sooo miserable today. He won't let me put him down and he just cries and cries. His appetite is terrible. He just sleeps in my arms. Are you finding that too??

I saw your message about the green poo -- my baby had the same problem. After some research I found that a foremilk / hindmilk imbalance may have been to blame, and "block feeding" has almost eliminated them... and she seems happier. Check out this website: http://www.indiaparenting.com/diet/data/diet23_01.shtml

Our little girls poop was green all the time and we started giving her probiotics. It turned yellow and was a little bit more solid and she has been going 2-3 hours in between feedings instead of 1-1 and 1/2. It has made a huge difference for us. Just a thought.

I still had bleeding at 7 weeks postpartum and I still had some placenta in me. I would suggest going to the dr so your bleeding will stop. Let me know how it goes if you go to the dr.

crabscanfly - Saturday, 26 April
i went to the doctors about my bleedin, and had a peice of placenta still inside.. but still bleedin but should be gone soon

thanks for the comment! but he has very little baby acne, and the mark on his face is a lighter shade of his own color but when he cries it disappears, im stumpped as to what it could be, so i guess my final answer will be the dermatologist, but thanks for your help :o)

mommylaurie - Monday, 21 April
I thought the same thing at 6 weeks. Mine just had a growth spurt and now I swear she isn't eating enough for my boobs! LOL

Hi and congrats on your lil one! but I read your comment on the milk spots, but I wanted to know exactly what is that? My baby has a spot on the side of his right eye, Im not sure if it will be a birthmark or what it is? The pediatrician recomended a dermatologist but its looks like lightening of the skin..can you give more information, and what cream you used?

first-time-mami - Sunday, 20 April

Hi there, congrats on the baby. I know how you feel about the pacifier. I spoke to our lactation consultant, our pediatrician and the nurse at the hospital and truly, baby's have a natural affinity for sucking and do it the womb. It has helped me tremendously to settle him down and prolong feeding periods so that I don't feel like a human buffet. If you plan to give it to him at six weeks and he is latching on pretty good - you should be just fine giving him it a little early to ease your stress. I know it's personal but I thought I'd let you know I was feeling the same way. My little Jaxon is a week old today - it is so crazy!

your page looks funny, so I hope you get this. The pumping is working good for me. It's nice to give my nipples a break here and there and it makes breastfeeding more enjoyable because it doesn't hurt anymore, so if you haven't tried it, you should. She doesn't seem to have any nipple confusion with the bottle and breast (her doc. said it's a myth about the confusion anyway which made me feel better adding in the pumped bottle).

hey-I finally made it to this side too :) I have a really sore nipple as well-actually the whole 1st min she's latched on is painful. I am going to pump tonight and try that to give my breasts a break for 1 or 2 feedings and see if that helps-if it does i'll let you know.
