BIRTH STORY

I went to the hospital on Monday 3rd March to be induced and was given 2 doses to soften the servix. Nothing much happened that day but by the teusday morning my cervix had dialated enough for them to break my waters. That was a very painful procedure! There was no sign of contractions so I had to go on the drip that afternoon to start my contractions and by about 5 pm they had started. I didnt want any painkillers except for gas and air. My contractions got really painfull later that night and it felt like i needed to push so the midwife checked to see how dialated I was. It turns out I was only two cm dialated. That was a very disshartening moment and that is when I decided I wanted some painkillers. I was told that the baby had become stuck and could not be born naturally and I needed an emergency C-section, this was terrifying but my husband and the medical staff where brilliant and put me a ease. at 00.29am wednesday morning Thomas Harvey was born and the c-section was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I stayed in the hospital for five days and came home on the friday. He is so delightfull and we are all in love with him and cannot imagine life without him, the diabetes and the difficult labour does not even matter any more and it is nearly forgoten. Good luck to all of you still wating for your babies they will soon be here!

I forgot to say that he weighed 8lb 8oz. The midwives all bet that he weighed about 10lb ! but I was carrying a lot of water.

My baby is two weeks old now and I cannot believe how quickly time is flying by. I am still recovering from the c-section which is a pain when you have other children to look after. We are managing to get the hang of breast feeding and my nipples are not as sore as they where a few days ago. That is a relief because I really want to breast feed exclusively for six months. I will be going back to work so I will introduce formula as well as breast feed at this point i think, although nothing works out like you plan.

Message to all This may be interesting to some of you. Seema`s email is seema.modhvadia@rdftelevision.com

Hi there,

I work for a television production company based in the UK . We are currently making a documentary for ITV1 exploring the issues surrounding pregnancy and eating disorders. The film will be a thoughtful and insightful look into this extremely sensitive subject.

We’re in the research stage of our production and very keen to chat to women who are, or have been, pregnant whilst having an eating disorder.

If you’re interested in having a chat or finding out more about our documentary, it would be really great to hear from you. All communication would be in complete confidence.

You can contact me on: seema.modhvadia@rdftelevision.com

I would say its worth a shot to at least ask him. I found a lot of information online by searching for "breastfeeding and antidepressants" and most of the literature I found said Zoloft and one other medication were the best because trace to no amounts were found in the breastmilk. I even called my pediatrician's office and talked to them about it and they said if I was able to get on Zoloft that was fine. I'm sorry you to have to go through this but I would think weaning at this point would make the depression worse, it would in my situation.

Maddux - Tuesday, 15 July
Hi, did your doctor say you have to stop breastfeeding in order to take medication? I as diagnosed with post partum depression as well but I have been taking Zoloft from the beginning and I have been breastfeeding for 4 months. I just told my doctor that I wanted to continue breastfeeding and he told me out of all the depression medications Zoloft is fine to take. I then went home and researched it online and it looked like everything backed him up. I feel much better now and I watchd Julia very closely the first several weeks while on the medication and she has had absolutely no signs of problems.
