BIRTH STORY

I went to the hospital on Monday 3rd March to be induced and was given 2 doses to soften the servix. Nothing much happened that day but by the teusday morning my cervix had dialated enough for them to break my waters. That was a very painful procedure! There was no sign of contractions so I had to go on the drip that afternoon to start my contractions and by about 5 pm they had started. I didnt want any painkillers except for gas and air. My contractions got really painfull later that night and it felt like i needed to push so the midwife checked to see how dialated I was. It turns out I was only two cm dialated. That was a very disshartening moment and that is when I decided I wanted some painkillers. I was told that the baby had become stuck and could not be born naturally and I needed an emergency C-section, this was terrifying but my husband and the medical staff where brilliant and put me a ease. at 00.29am wednesday morning Thomas Harvey was born and the c-section was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I stayed in the hospital for five days and came home on the friday. He is so delightfull and we are all in love with him and cannot imagine life without him, the diabetes and the difficult labour does not even matter any more and it is nearly forgoten. Good luck to all of you still wating for your babies they will soon be here!

I forgot to say that he weighed 8lb 8oz. The midwives all bet that he weighed about 10lb ! but I was carrying a lot of water.

My baby is two weeks old now and I cannot believe how quickly time is flying by. I am still recovering from the c-section which is a pain when you have other children to look after. We are managing to get the hang of breast feeding and my nipples are not as sore as they where a few days ago. That is a relief because I really want to breast feed exclusively for six months. I will be going back to work so I will introduce formula as well as breast feed at this point i think, although nothing works out like you plan.

Ha ha - so if mummy stephs wishes are powerful I'll be giving birth in a week! I'll definately be thinking of you on the 3rd. You'll do fine. I'll be checking into your page and I'll update when I have news too. Best wishes!

Hi mummy steph, you are so lucky to have organised doctors who booked you in. I'm the same as you (GD, insulin etc) for 11 weeks they have been saying 38 weeks definately for an induction which would have made it the same time a yours. And now that I am 37 weeks and counting down they say - no all the way to forty for you! I don't think they know what they are doing! Its a little annoying to make plans and then have it change all the time. I now have relos coming from London to Australia for two weeks on the 29th Feb and I wont have the baby while they are in the country. (Unless bub decides to come before then which I doubt!) I'm also worried that their sizing estimates (a weeks ahead at 36 weeks) are wrong - and by the time 40 comes it will be a 12 pounder! So frustrated. Wish I was in the care of your docs! Good luck!

Hi there! I swear I have nearly forgotten everything! It's nice to know there are others in the same boat as me. I keep reading the 'second' pregnancy usually goes smoother, but are they including women who haven't been pregnant for awhile? My doctor gives the option to induce at 39 weeks and I will certainly go for it if I haven't delivered by then. Tomorrow I move to 37 weeks. So, two more weeks for me! I am kind of nervous about the age difference between the girls. Though my daughter now is very excited and soooo supportive. Are you having any problems or concerns with this pregnancy? My doctor is concerned because I am measuring 34 inches for the last 3 doctor visits, they asked me if my clothes were fitting differently or if I felt preasure in my lower parts. LOL! I don't know! I guess it seems my belly is lower, not so high as before and I am always feeling some kind of pressure, everywhere! They think the baby has 'dropped' but when they do internal exams nothing has changed there. Anyway, thanks for responding to my post in 36 weeks!

I am on the same boat. lost my mucus plug all day yesteraday. I have the same fear, if my lil man born this week, will his lungs are matured enough? my due date is march 13. (last friday had dr.appt, i am already dilated to 2cm & 50% effective). Hope it goes fine for us!

No unfortunately we live in a single bedroom cottage. So no room for a nursery so baby is sharing our bedroom with us. Its going to be a tight squeeze but I am hoping that we will either move to a bigger place or find a solution by the time baby gets to 6 months. Hopefully. I must admit that my SO has been really sweet lately. The other day he massaged my feet with cream because i moaned that they were swollen. Men sometimes you cant live with them but then i couldnt imagine going through this pregnancy without him. I am blessed.

Hey there

I just wanted to say that im sure everyone understood your rant. We all have our bad days..but i do know what you mean about your Husband not cleaning up. I asked my SO to clean up after himself last week because i didnt want to clean during the week because im still working. It lasted about 2 days and then the house was in a mess again, but my SO does wash the dishes he just asks me to help rinse them. Hope you are feeling better. Sometimes men just dont understand what we go through.

Thank you for the kind words. Thinking about how much time I have left until I hold my little boy is what gets me through the day most days...I appreciate you taking your time to give me advice. The people on this site make me much more positive about my body changes...because I know I'm not the only one struggling with the idea of gaining weight for the benefit of my future son...Thank you again! Take care of yourself and that baby and please keep in touch!

PreggieSmurf - Tuesday, 22 Jan
Hey, thanks for the reply. Good luck with delivery everything! I love the fact that we will get to meet our little ones soon! And yet, a part of me will miss being pregnant and feeling the baby inside me. But it's exciting isn't it?

PreggieSmurf - Friday, 18 Jan
Just curious... Why are you being induced? I wish I could be! Not yet of course, but in another 6 weeks sounds good!

CrazyEights - Thursday, 17 Jan
thanks so much for writing back to me
it's awesome to have so many supportive people in my life
funny that it's strangers and not my own 'family'

LiseyB - Sunday, 6 Jan
Just one more thing - I read scientific studies that shows that women who pass these tests , or failthe first and pass the second - still have some glucose intolerance and this places them at a risk of big babes because they are not managed like us. So at least we have access to medicine and knowledge about lifesyle changes!
