This is my first pregnancy. It was really an accidental thing, but I guess we will make the best of it and so far we have been planning everything and making sure we will be ready for our first. My due date will be around July 9th, but we will find out more exact numbers probably at our first ultrasound. I have a few fears but I have been preparing myself mentally and physically and I think I will do a good job as a new mom. If everything works out well, I plan on not working when the baby is here and might not go back to working until he/she starts school, unless I can find a good work at home job (I've done alot of looking) I am trying out a home assembly job for a dollhouse miniatures company and it seems a little promising so far. By the way, we do not plan on finding out the sex of the baby until it arrives so it will be a surprise. As for names, I guess we will just have a male and female name ready and choose the one that applies. I've already made a few decisions when it comes to things like baby food and diapers: I would like to try those gdiapers because I've been trying to be more environmentally friendly (I've worked with cloth diapers before and don't like them). Also, I want to make my own homemade baby food from fresh ingredients cause I don't like to eat food that's full of preservatives and unnatural things and I want to start the baby off right. That's it for now!

I went to my first prenatal exam today, which wasn`t much. I am 17 weeks and 2 days. They just took my height, weight, and I went to a short class. My next appointment is Feb. 5th were I will be there for like 3 hours while they check everything, take tests, but I won`t have my first ultrasound until 20 weeks. I kind of thought I`d get an ultrasound earlier than that, oh well. We don`t plan on finding out the sex of our baby until it`s here but I will be looking forward to how the baby is doing and how it looks. We are also planning on scheduling a tour at the hospital to check out what the birthing rooms are like so we will get a good idea of how it will be, I`m hoping it will be nice and homey looking.

Tuesday Feb. 5th, My boyfriend and I went to my first real appointment. They did some tests like blood, pelvic exam, etc. We got to hear the heartbeat for the first time and it was a good strong one. Also, they said I `d probably have my first ultrasound at 20 weeks, but they went ahead and scheduled one that very day which was cool. It was a great experience and since I never seen an ultrasound in person before, it was very interesting especially since it was my kid. My favorite part was when we saw the baby grab it `s toes very clearly. Everything like body parts, bones, spine, brain, heart, umbilical cord, etc. measured out good and the baby was actively moving around and despite my small size, she said it had plenty of room. The baby's heartrate was 140-something. She said that normal was between 120-160 so it's about in the middle, which is great in my opinion. I don `t have a scanner, but if I get the chance, I will put up pictures of the ultrasound. I am happy that the baby is doing very good and that so far they haven't detected any problems. I believe I will be getting the results of my blood test sometime (they didn't tell me though) and hopefully my blood is good, I don't even know my blood type lol.

No...she does. It's just in her diaper.

I wanted to post this here in case you didnt' see it...It should be ok to do a sitzbath. I tore like crazy too, same situation as you, and the nurse gave me one in the hosp to take home. (It's AWESOME, and it helps you heal.) Prep H is fine too. Get the cooling pads though and just leave them there until you go to the bathroom next, it helps to soothe the area. Also, use your peri bottle after you go to the bathroom, with warm water. I put a little witch hazel in the water too (sitz bath) to help with healing. Get the spray 'Dermoplast' or something like it and spray the area. It can kinda burn, but it will help to heal. And you've gotta air that baby out! Hang out without anything on to air out the area as well as your breasts if you are breastfeeding. Healing after labor is fun, isn't it??

The best thing for the hemmoroids and the tearing is tucks pads. It has witch hazel that helps soothe both the tearing and the hemmoroids. My doc told me to fold one pad in half after I use the bathroom and clean up, then leave it there until the next time I use the bathroom. Congratulations to you, and best of luck.

Congratulations! I know how happy you are to have your little one!

preciousangels2 - Saturday, 19 July
When I had my first I could barely sit or stand or walk or anything for the first week. It was horrible. It's because of tearing. Especially the sitting, because you usually tear from front to back so yeah... It should get better. They gave me Dermaplast spray at the hospital but you can buy it pretty much anywhere. That helped a TON and then there's the Tucks Pads. Those help a lot too. Anyway, hope you feel better soon and congrats!!!

i'm hoping i'm getting back to you in time. i absolutely think the cervadil is a good option, especially if you are already dilated. i wasn't dilated or effaced, and it took me to 1 cm and 50% effacement--given that getting all of that started is the hardest and it woked for me, i'm sure it will get you to the point you need to be to labor. my doula was very supportive of the cervadil, and being as dilated as you already are, you'll have more options after the cervadil than i had. good luck! giving birth is an incredible experience and i am excited for you!

bo - Sunday, 13 July
I am getting induced on 15th as well and feel exactly the way you do. Good Luck!

DanaO- - Saturday, 12 July
Hi, I'm from week 26 and read you post. I was induced with my first two and they used cervadil,sp? for both. My understanding is Cervadil is a prostaglanden gel that is placed on the cervix and will help soften your cervix and possibly start labor. With my first, which was almost 11 years ago, I don't recall needing pictocin, and I had no epidural. With my second, labor went faster and I did use pictocin, but still no epidural but pain meds The cerivdal had no affects on either baby. My son had the most problems from the pain med staydal sp?, because I had him so fast. I had about 2 hours after they gave it to me and he came out really tired and it took them a few to get him to cry. Hope this helps. Oh a natural prostaglandin is semen. So if you want to try to prevent it, you might want to have lots of sex,

crystalwinds88 - Tuesday, 8 July
you will possibly have a small baby. I was 105 lb prepregnancy and I was 140 when I went in to deliver... so i gained 35 lb.... now im 122lb... losing weight quick. But it helps that Im breastfeeding. Its true that you lose the weight quicker (your uterus shrinks faster too) and I am walking all the time. When she was 4 days old, my family and I went to Nashville for a convention and it was constant walking... which is very good... I believe that if your sick or weak, the best medicine is being outside :)
If you have any questions, feel free to ask bc its coming from a first time mom who is experiencing new things everyday!

I am glad you are okay after the accident. Sometimes I am thinking maybe us pregnant women shouldn't be allowed to drive. I accidentally ran a red light yesterday and generally found myself to be a lot more spacey and distractable. Let's hope we have those babies soon so we have have our shrunk pregnant brains back in their normal sizes

mdbabyno1 - Saturday, 21 June
My mum said kidney stones were worse than labor.

bernadette - Monday, 16 June
if you have a good threshhold to pain you will cope not a problem. dont let your waters be broken until about 7 cm unless they go by thereself as pain will get a bit worse. take your midwifes advice and you will sale through it.

momof2oneonway! - Sunday, 15 June
Of course, you can be dilated for weeks before you deliver. Usally once your water brakes that is when labor begins. Hope this helps

scorpgrl20 - Friday, 13 June
Ohhh good luck! Your almost there....after you deliver let me know what you ended up doing!!

scorpgrl20 - Friday, 13 June
I am actually on the same boat as you...meaning I do not want them epidural. It's so weird but I'm more scared about thinking about my legs being numb then being in pain....but I will see what happens when I get there. Most people told me (including my best friend who is nurse in the maternity ward( that if you opt for any meds to get the epidural. The ones in the IV just dope you up too much.

corrin - Friday, 6 June
when i went in in was thinking the same thing..i was already at 4 cm and was think oh i made it this far im gonna see how far i can go and wanted to stay away from the epi and just get the meds that numb your uterus..haha yeah right...well my waters didnt break so they broke them....and when that happened dear lord it was horrible...i had pitocin so my contractions would get on a regular basis...but they soon turned that off and was going on my own...i thik i may have made it about 2 hrs after my waters broke and was screaming get me the damn epidural!!!lol...i could still move my legs but i did lose the feeling somewhat but it was fantastic because i was able to enjoy it...and they turn yuor epi down once its time to puch that way you can feel when you have a contraction and are able to control your legs and puch...at least they did with me anyways...but than in the end they ended up shooting my crotch with meds because i had to have an episiotomy...not that those drugs affected the baby....but if you can make it without one that cudos to you...but i wasnt trying to be a hero!!lol...you never kow your labor may go so quick that you dont even know whats going on ...or your labor could go on for 20+ hours..u just never know...but seriously the epi is not that bad and i was in so much pain i wasnt enjoying it..once i got it i was able to enjoy the process and had my mind clear and knew what was going on...just do whats best for you and what yourbody can handle...nobody is gonna be mad if you need the meds..its not a bad thing...!!! but good luck and enjoy the rest of your time beingpreggo!!!!once the babes is here it flies by!!!!

goaskalice - Sunday, 25 May

anr - Friday, 9 May
you misunderstood...im just saying you're baby is almost here...tell them asap whether you can get to them in person or not..their feelings might be a little hurt.

anr - Thursday, 8 May
i think you should tell them no matter what the situation. i put off telling my family for a while...they were more upset that i waited so long to let them know. whether its in person or not you need to tell them...you cant wait until the baby gets here. i think they will be hurt.

stephs1 - Wednesday, 7 May
I think you need to tell them ASAP. Don't be surprised if they are a little upset cause you only have 9 weeks left in your pregnancy. I am sure they would have wanted to know earlier even if they were not told in person. GOod luck!

smerty - Wednesday, 7 May
Just read your comment about telling your family... we waited a while too mostly cause our fafmily lives ALL OVER so we wanted to wait until we had most of them together from my side to say... as well as his! My family found out when i was 5 months... his when I was 6 months... I wish we had told them sooner... but I think it was best to do it in person!!! They are all happy now... but some wanted to be more involved from the beginning... reguardless of when you tell them... as long as they are told before the delivery I think all should be fine :0) I feel you on the stress factor though! It is always a little nerve racking to wait for their response! Best of luck to you and your partner and CONGRATS on you baby :0)
