Hi - I just saw your post in the plus size forum. I am a big girl. I lost my baby 4 years ago at 22 weeks. In that time I gained 80 lbs. Well I finally got the nerve up to try again and my doctor never hesitated. I have PCOS and she went ahead and put me on clomid. After 4 rounds and gaining another 20 lbs. We finally conceived. My advice to you is FIND ANOTHER DOCTOR. He or she should be treating you for trying to get pregnant and respect your wishes, not limit you because of your size. Good luck on your journey.

I agree that you should change doctors! I have been a big girl my entire life and have constantly heard "you need to lose weight" from them as if it were the ultimate answer to all of lifes little owies and problems. I had gastric bypass in 2006 and lost 150lbs before my sweetheart and I tried to get pregnant. Even then my OB/GYN gently suggested to me that she suspected that I had PCOS (something other doctors have echoed in the past) and that I may want to lose some more weight before really "trying" because even losing 10-20lbs would make it easier to conceive. I didn't lose any weight and I concieved 3 months after coming off the pill. My GYN was totally excited for me and even referred me to my OB who I love. My OB has never said word one about my weight (and I am still a big girl, even after my surgery) aside from telling me I am right on track, even though I've gained like a pound a week so far in my pregnancy.
Pregnancy is emotionally hard enough on you as it is. You need to have people who support you, especially your medical team! If the doctor you are working with is not a good match for you, find one that is. There is nothing wrong with switching off an MD's service because you and that doctor don't see eye to eye, or because his/her approach is not something you are comfortable with!

Im sorry to hear about your DR being so difficult with you. I know she has your best interest at heart but at the same time she should not deny you the right to treatment until u lose weight. You deserve to have a child like any other woman out there whether skinny or plus size. I am a VERY plus size woman, luckily i got pregnant without treatment even with irregular periods. My MD suspected I had PCOS but i conceived anyways. I had a miscarriage in '06 and my DR. offered clomid to me right off the bat if i wanted to try and conceive again. Maybe u should see if there is a different DR. who is willing to actually be a little more helpful! Good luck TTC and I hope it all works out for you. Please keep me updated!

My dr. has been very supportive, but I am starting to think that my weight might be the reason I'm not getting pg either... I could definatly lose 50+ lbs... But how is the question. I eat right and I'm on metformin which has done nothing. I am busy from sun up till time for bed. So if it is a hormone thing shouldn't the Doctors that I'm paying all this money to be able to fix it .... Well that is just my soap box for the day. I have also heard that accupuncture helps with weight and fertility. That might be what I try next... Best of luck!

Hey,
I wanted to answer your question about how expensive the fertility drugs were. Well I was on Clomid, 100mg, and it cost me $20 at Sam's pharmacy. Ovedril (hsg shot) cost about $70 at walgreens, but I do think price varies from state to state.

Hey we have more than a few things in common! Well I got married in may of last year and I also am taking birth control. I have PCOS and my doc suggets that I take Orth Tricyclen Lo along aith prenatl vitamins and an extra folic acid suppliment. you may want to ask your doc about it as well! I didn't ovulate for 5 months and with the ortho, prenatal vitamins, and extra folic acid, I DID ovulate this month!!! But I wish you the best and let me know how things gop for you!
