My profile

So this is my husband's and my first child; we're SO excited! It wasn't planned, but it was a fantastic surprise! I stopped using BC pills in September, and we tried the "natural" method of BC. Yeah, that didn't work, LOL! I recently graduated with my BS in Elementary Education, so this couldn't have come at a better time, honestly. So far, I LOVE being pregnant; I guess you could consider me one of the lucky ones (no morning sickness)! It has been such a great experience so far. I cannot WAIT to meet this little miracle! Best of luck to you, ladies! WE'RE having a BABY!!!

it comes with a firm matress type pad that folds in three places to form the bassinet. then you lay it out straight to put in the bottom of the playpen. you can buy sheets for them they range in price from $7-$11 depending where you buy them. if you have a babies r us near you or even a target where they are set up you can look at them a see what i'm talking about. babies r us is a perfect place b/c the people will actually take the display off the shelf and show you how everything works. if you have anymore questions fee free to ask.

Wow, I wasn't on for the rest of the afternoon so I had to catch up on messages last night and wasn't that one lady a little rude saying that we need not look at our registery and depend on people but to go out and get our own babies stuff because we decided to have them. What a dismal out look on life lady...
I actually was YELLED at by my family for buying so much stuff for my baby already and was told to wait for my shower to see what I get. I don't know if it is a cultural thing or not, I just know it is like a tradition that when a baby comes we shower the new family with gifts to show kindness and appreciation.
I missed my opportunity to commenet back, but I thought she was overall jumping the gun in the wrong direction because I don't thnk anyone here expects anything... we will live if we do or we live if we don't.. Glad she isn't coming to my shower! LOL
I noticed a lot of stuff wasn't brought on my registery, oh well, I enjoy shopping, but I have a feeling that people are going to get me what they want to give me anyways. So I am prepared...

That is exactly what I did!!! The say that it is safer to keep a baby on a more firm surface than on a really soft matress. When the baby starts out sleeping in the pack-n-play they are use to the firmness of it and don't know any different. It worked great for us and saved us lots of room in the apartment and money.

There are things made especially for port-a-cribs, but I think the standards work as well too...like putting queen stuff on a full bedI was kind of worried about that too, because I don't want my baby swimming in linens...but things like I have a huge mobile and it still fits perfectly

sugarbear8907 - Friday, 18 July
yea i understand well my bf is getting one because his room is 2 small and in the mean time saving up for a crib

jaleca - Friday, 18 July
II have a port-a-crib for my baby, and everyone says they are just as good as regular cribs. I've been offered big cribs, but I don't think it's neccesary just to have to get rid of them after a short period of time. My baby sister was in a smaller crib, and it worked fine for her also. More room for all the other baby junk anyway!

Yeah it is a totally crazy feeling..I was soooo freaked out at first...He is definitely going to be a handfult hough...he has been moving since like 14 weeks.

LOL. I've heard that gift-cards were impersonal too... however, I disagree. I am like you, because chances are I will get me something I don't want. I keep telling my sister (who is throwing my shower) that people need to go off my registery and get me what I asked for. She said people will most likely get me what they want to get me, and I said, well that is fine, but it isn't their baby!! She thinks I am crazy anyways! I keep checking my online registery to see what/if anything was purchased so I can prepare myself. I reason it with it not being a birthday, so I am not trying to be 'surprised' .
I just started having bad contractions where they are painful and feel like I was punched in the stomach. I've talked to the doctor and they told me if they don't stop I need to get to L&D but I am trying to stay relaxed and calm so that I won't have to go. So here I sit, feet elevated, laying down and drinking tons of water... Hopefully I wont go to the hospital yet... never thought I would say, "I DONT WANT TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL NOW!!"

Oh well, I lied, I thought I saw futons on sale for $40 which if that was true, I would have grabbed 2! But when I looked online to find the colors they had, they were only FUTON COVERS! What a joke... My DH was lauging at me, because he knew I was wrong.
$1 per load is a LOT! I remember when we lived in our apt, I thought that the day I would get a real washer of my own, I would wash everything. That lasted for 5 min.
I am sure that having to wash a babys clothes is going to hamper my lazy outlook in life!
I think the donation of coins is a great thing! I am hoping my friends give me a ton of gift cards!! Selfish right?! Its for a GREAT CAUSE!

Oh Lord...feels good to know I'm not alone! I too decided to cut back on some things especially the fried foods :( I don't know that I can let go of the ice cream! I did start walking on Monday though. I decided 2 miles 4 x a week should help especially since all this water retention is starting to take place! Well I wish you the best and regardless we are beautiful and this is all worth the outcome! GOD bless you and your beautiful baby bump

xxlollyxx - Tuesday, 15 July
ive got one of those too, i spend most of the night picking it up off the floor lol!!
ok i was told last nite at ante natal classes that the restless legs are also due to the 40% rise in blood flow in our bodies aswell as de-hydration, hope the water works for you. i didnt sleep well at all last night, such a horrible sick feeling, so im going for a walk along the beach then hopefully a little nap.... if my 6year old lets me

Mmm, I really enjoy the support network here on this site too. Doesn't matter how many kids you have, every pregnancy is different and there's always lots of other ideas and other perspectives to consider. I look forward to logging on and catching up with everyone, too, as I don't really have a network of "real life" friends (we're new in this town) so yeah, it's great.

It's funny here we are, longing to finally hold our precious little babies, it's hard to imagine how trying they can be. Here's a tip you might wanna share with Christian. Whenever I get overwhelmed and my husband can see I'm getting into a state over a screaming baby that I just can't seem to settle, he steps in and says, "put him down in the bedroom, make sure he's safe, come out here, and shut the door." Just taking a minute step away from him (or her) can really change your focus. Maybe even step outside and take a few deep breaths. You'll soon feel the protective motherly love rushing back, and you'll desperately want to go pick him up and give him a cuddle instead of feeling like you wanna throw him out the window! That's sometimes the moments when your DH can be the most support, just by keeping you sane.

I posted some pictures up on my page of my finsihed product. The only thing now is that I need some more furniture. We are waiting until after the shower to see what we get/need and then I can go buy a few more things. I cannot believe I am 30 wks either... and if one more person tells me, "OMG Your HUGE!". I am actually having dreams that I am getting into fights with people for calling me huge or fat. Talk about messing with your psyche.
We actually killed our 'guest' room so that we could make the nursery. The 3rd room we had was always a 'work-out' store all room... Now we have no place for guest! :tounge LOL. I think we are going to get a futon for the 'work-out/guest' room... I saw them on sale at Bed Bath and Beyond for $39.99!! Too good to be true right?!
I've read that Dreft is good for newborns and sensetive skin... I figure I would use it for a while until he is more adjusted to being in the real world, and then I would introduce him to TIDE which is all we use. I am not sure about washing all the 'new' clothes... I've heard different opinions about it.. some people swear by it, and others say they didn't. My concern is, everything I have still has tags on it. I have no idea what size he is going to be or for how long, so I don't want to 'wash' all my clothes and then be stuck with them. This way I can exchange them at the store should my guy be extremely huge (or small!). So I am opting to not wash everything. However, everything that was given to us (slightly used) I washed...
Are you going to wash everything?? I think I would be sitting at a washer for a few days if I even started that route!

xxlollyxx - Monday, 14 July
ive gone through a stage where i can only eat cold food, ie salad, wraps, s/wiches etc everytime i put hot food in my mouth it makes me feel sick!
i bought a V shaped pillow today to see if that helps the pain, i also start ante-natal classes tonite so hopefully ill get some tips on comfy positions to help me sleep.
i googled the restless legs as ive had it for a couple of weeks and all i can find is that it can be cause by de-hydration so i started drinking loads more water and it helps a little. x

judi - Monday, 14 July
Oh yeah, I'm very thankful for not having the restless leg thing happening. I'm finding it hard enough to just get everything done in the day because I get tired and need a sit down every few minutes, and it seems like before I know it, the day's gone!

We have a little sort of travel crib thing for Baby Penny. It's like a little foam bed, not much bigger than a big pillow. And yes, it will be VERY convenient to have her in our bedroom for those late nights and midnight feeds. With our first we tried to keep him in his own room, and it was awful. I was constantly tired. We relaxed the rules with number 2 and even more and more as we've had more kids. Tycho ended up sleeping in with us until he was like about 2 years old!! He still had his own crib but mostly only used it for naps and only at night until the first wake-up of the night, if then. You either get more flexible or you go completely mad, I reckon.

I think whether your kids grow up to be caring kind adults pretty much depends on you treating them with respect and kindness. Then it's all they know. A lot of people talk down to their own kids, especially in their own homes, and yell at them. We never do. We treat them the way we expect them to treat us and each other. Explain when they do something inappropriate, and they very rarely do it again - you don't need to punish them. If they do chose to be naughty, they can understand from a very young age when you explain how it makes you feel, and how they need to be tolerant. Course, when they're very young, a strong assertive, "NO!" is often the best explanation you can give, but when they can understand about how things can be dangerous and how you have to show concern for other peoples feelings, it gets a lot easier. Still not an easy job, of course, but we didn't decide to have kids because it was easy, did we!! LOL!!

xxlollyxx - Sunday, 13 July
ive eaten differently this time, last time i was eating loads of takeaway and sweets etc, but this time ive been craving lots of salad and water and healthy food, i havent been exercising this time as i have bad symphysis pubis dysfunction, so ive been in alot of pain!
clothes look so strange at the moment as they are all made to fit bump into but i think they forgot about the boobies! lol xx

newmom08 - Sunday, 13 July
LOL. 2am! That happens to me too if I take naps during the day. I have a list of stuff to pack and what I started doing was packing all the stuff I currently acquired, even if I am not going to 'use' it on the trip home... I am just excited to have a bag and can call myself making progress.
Today I plan on hanging a valance over the window in his room and a few more odds and ends. Oh, and I washed a load of his clothes in that Dreft detergent... wow, that stuff smells like candy!

judi - Sunday, 13 July
I've heard of pregnancy causing "restless legs" but thankfully that's one side-effect I haven't personally experienced. It is hard to sleep a lot of times, though, just because it's hard to get comfortable. Sometimes I have trouble relaxing, too. Brain gets overactive, and I just can't convince it to sleep! Hope you've managed to get to sleep by now!

I've never had a baby shower, but if your friends and family want to give you lots of stuff, then it makes sense to hold off on most of the shopping. You're lucky!

Making the room ready for Baby is an exciting project. Have fun!! We don't really have space for another one, as we live in a 3 bedroom house. Hubby and I have the main bedroom, the girls share, and the boys share. Baby will just have to sleep in our bedroom until we get a bigger house or she gets big enough to go into the girls' room, whichever happens first!

Oh, I love having a big family. Kids are all just great. I guess I'm lucky, or have been doing something right, because they are all just really good kids. The older boys think I'm crazy to be having another, but everyone's happy about it. Hopefully by the time I get clucky again, in another 5 years or so, my 17 year-old will be making some grandchildren for me!
