It's about time that I update my page here. I am a mother to a beauitful boy named Jack, who arrived 7 weeks early in February 2008. He is amazing and I love him and his father more than anything. I first came to this site when i was 6 weeks pregnant and found this site offered a lot of support from some amazing people. I'm so happy that we have a site like this so mothers to be and mothers can communicate from all parts of the world! I had an easy labour and delivery which was great. I was attending University and had a few months left of studying when.... my water spontaneously broke (as i was eating a valentines day cupcake) and was hurried to the hospital and put on bed rest for days. they didn't want to risk having me deliver early until I had recieved a full course of antibiotics and jack had received Steriods for his lungs. He was born at 4.1 and went down to 3.11 but we were able to take him home after 2 weeks. I managed to finish my degree and began working in September. I miss him like mad but I am a Drama teacher to some delightful students.

Thursday, 27 Mar I'm on that meidication too. How long did it take for you notice an increase in your milk? I just started a week ago... kmoore -
Thursday, 27 Mar She will be two months on Saturday, she has always been a healthy eater, even when we brought her home she was wanting more than two ounces a time. How much does your little one take? jenn1022 -
Thursday, 27 Mar I remember you too.! I had forgotten that you had your baby early. My little guy weighed 7lb 4 oz. How much does Jack weigh now?? kmoore -
Wednesday, 26 Mar Thanks, I think that may have been part of it, she wasn't eating enough to fill up...I started pumping and feeding that way, now she eats four ounces every three hours and doesn't act hungry between. It's a pain to pump every three hours though, but I guess if thats what it takes! Take care- jenn1022 -
Wednesday, 26 Mar Thank you for your comment.I really appreciate the encouragement! We had a breakthrough last night though. He actually nursed for a minute and then today he nursed for a few minutes. So we are coming along, it just takes time I guess. And I almost forgot how much it hurts when they first start! LOL! xiaodaph -

Saturday, 22 Mar ugh, sorry to hear you're having a similar problem! but I was thinking the same - my MIL used to smoke and drink highballs when she was oregnant -- totally different generation! i'm trying to keep my cool, but the bf hormones are making me sort of touchy, I think. it's like, come on people, women bf their children for thousands of years; how can what i'm doing be wrong? oh well. luckily, my husband is totally supportive and encouraging of the bf, and that's a huge help and boost for my confidence. thanks for your thoughts and best of luck to you!! :) cko1522 -
Friday, 21 Mar Hi, Thanks for the comments on BFing vs. formula. I've had an aweful time and some of the comments on here just pissed me off to no end. :) Anyway, take care, and thanks for saying my baby is cute. He is, isn't he? :) Debra -
Monday, 17 Mar make sure now then that you get the acidophilous! and talk to the pharmasist about how much you can take safely, b/c you should take at least twice a day if possible! Antibiotics can cause clostridium difficile, which is a nasty side effect of antibiotics and makes you have terrible diarrhea for days. Its because antibiotics also kill our natural bacteria that lives in our intestinal tract and helps us to digest. Acidophilous will replace those bacteria and help to keep your gut healthy. You can get it at any place that sells vitamins. Stay away from sugar if you can while you are recovering! infections thrive on sugar! Drink lots of water too. Taking a hot shower and massaging the infected area will help with the pain. Debra -
Saturday, 15 Mar IF you got any at all antibiotics or your son is on them I HIGHLY recommend getting some acidophiolous supplements. Its to treat the effects of antibiotics which takes our natural bacteria that is found in our gut out. To help with digestion and prevent thrush and many other illnesses, i recommend taking this while you are breast feeding. It will also help boost your immunity and give your son a helping hand to get stronger. Acidophilous can be found in PROBiotic yogurt, like ACTIVIA, but alot of other brands of yogurt that are low fat don't have this additive. But its easiest to just take a daily (or whatever the bottle/pharmacist recommends) supplement. Debra -
Saturday, 15 Mar Signs of thrush: From a website
It's possible for you to have it in your breast without it appearing in your baby's mouth (this is called being 'asymptomatic') - or your baby can have it in his mouth, and never show up in your breasts. If your baby does show symptoms, it will appear up as white curd-like patches, and may make your baby's mouth so sore that he won't want to nurse.
Symptoms of Thrush include, but are not limited to:
A red 'rash' on the nipple/red nipples and aureola or unusual pinkness/redness of the nipple
A taut, shiny appearance to the skin of the aureola (which is normally slightly creased and dullish, like any other skin)
Increased and eventually hyper-sensitivity of the nipple to any and all touch, and
Excrutiating pain during nursing and
Pain/burning of the nipples between feedings
Stabbing pains deep within the breast (if yeast gets up into the milk ductules), not to be confused with ordinary pain associated with let-down Debra -
Friday, 14 Mar Sorry, I'm an registered nurse. But a lot of people eat a lot of junk, and then they ask why they feel so sluggish all the time. Watch your sugar intake too- a lot of people don't know this but yeast loves sugar and new moms are prone to yeast infections. THis can also mean thrush for baby and breasts and also diaper rashes. Debra -
Friday, 14 Mar Pump more frequently- at least every three hours and make sure you are staying well hydrated and eating a balanced diet with lots of fruits and veggies! Bri -
Thursday, 13 Mar breastfeeding is hard when you have everything going right. To have a premie it makes it even harder. Your body isn't quite geared up to make milk. I had a c-section early to stop a pregnancy rash that I developed. Only I was just one week early. My body didn't want to induce labor and it was driving me crazy. But enough about me. Afterwards my baby wouldn't latch so I had to pump and pump and pump. It was awful. My doctor did prescribe me pills to take to help the milk come in. I have also found that fenugreek has worked the best to boost production. You can get it at the grocery store in the vitamin aisle, vitamin stores and some baby boutiques. It really does help. You do need to take more then what the bottle says. It is just a plant and won't hurt you. basically when your sweat smells like maple syrup you have taken enough. Good Luck! It is an up hill battle but can be won. Kekoa can now latch on correctly and it totally breastfed! 3rdtimer -
Thursday, 13 Mar Hi, I read your comment on the breastfeeding page. Does the hospital have a lacatation consultant? That might be the best person to talk to. Also I reckon 50ml is probably plenty at the moment so long as it's frequent. Their tummies are so tiny to start with and especially if your baby is prem. Mine is now 5 months and if I pump I get between 80 - 120ml if it's been 3 - 4 hours since the last feed. And I think I've got better at pumping. You might also have a slow letdown so you might not be getting all the milk. I thought one of my breasts produced heaps less than the other but I have learnt to pump it better and get more now. And that's on baby number 3! So, it would be best to see a lactation consultant who can do a proper assessment of your situation. Some things you could try eating to possibly help milk supply are: oats, sesame seeds, almonds, peanuts, barley, chickpeas. And lots of people swear by fenugreek tablets altho' I haven't tried them. Good luck, you're doing the best you can for your little darling! charm -
Thursday, 13 Mar Congrats on your baby. What I have been told with pumping is you have to pump every 2 hours to get more milk supply up (this is including nite time as well). I had Gestational diabetes with my baby and they had to give her formula thru the bottle for the first couple of feedings and now she LOVES the bottle and wont take to my boob. Anyways, I have been pumping exclusively to give her breast milk and the nurse as well as my doctor said to increase my milk I must pump more. Also my doctor gave me a prescription for Ran-Domperidone which helps increase my milk. You might want to talk to your doctor about that. Good luck with everything. angelamouzakitis -
Tuesday, 11 Mar thanks...I heard that a lot and they pretty much tell you what to do. I'll wing it I guess, as a lot of these plans tend to go out the window. marina -
Saturday, 8 Mar How is Jack doing? Are you two getting into a routine together? jessicadarling -

Wednesday, 5 Mar Good to hear the good news. Did you have a vaginal bith or c-section? How was the experience? pregnantme -
Wednesday, 5 Mar I'm so happy to hear the good news. Enjoy your little one. God Bless marina -
Wednesday, 5 Mar Congratulations!!!! I love the name! Love it. No, the baby is still in the hospital. She is about 4.11, right now. The weight isn't the problem - we just need to get her to take every feeding by bottle or breast and she'll come home! I hope by the end of the week, but we'll see. The NICU seems pretty good about keeping them progressing. Congrats again. Post pics!
