This is the first baby for my husband and I and we are so excited!! We have been married for over a year and half now and have been talking about adding a new member to the family for some time. We have been contemplating if we should wait a while before having children, but before we knew it, I was pregnant. God has a plan for us. My husband and I couldn't be any happier... we truly are very blessed. I just pray for a healthy baby.
We found out that we are having a baby boy!! My husband can now start the little army of men he wanted :) I am super excited and cannot wait to see my little man!
Congratulations to all you mommies and mommies to be out there! 2008 will be a great year for all of us!!!
Birth Story
All day Thursday (May 8) I was having mild contractions... not painful at all. Sleeping was a little difficult though. Friday morning around 12:30am, they started to get a little more intense, but still manageable. I definitely couldn't sleep and ended up going for a walk at 1:30am and went to a 24 hour grocery store at 3am to get my mind off things. I did not sleep at all that night. I was still having contractions every 5-8 minutes (not consistent at all). Doc said to go to the hospital when they are 3-5mins apart and extremely painful. It was about 10:30am and I decided to go to the hospital even though contractions weren't as painful because I was worried about the baby's heart rate. The nurses checked me as soon as I got to the hospital and I was already 5cm dilated and still 80% effaced. She said I would definitely deliver by tonight. So I got checked into a birthing room and away we went. I was hooked up to fetal monitors every so often to check the baby's heart rate and another device to check how strong my contractions were and how often they were happening. I told the nurses that I didn't want the epidural and that only if I asked for it would they give it to me. So a few hours had passed, probably around 5pm the nurse checked to see if I had further dilated and she said that I hadn't. She suggested I have my waters break. So with some serious thought, Jay and I decided that if I wasn't progressing I would have them break my water. Se we decided to do it. I believe it was around 6-7pm that my water was broken (Doc came in and broke it with what looked like a crochet hook). My contractions immediately started to hurt... REAL BAD!! I started having intense back labor and honestly I thought a bomb had gone off in my ass!! I really tried to focus on my breathing which worked for awhile. The nurse then suggested I hop into the jacuzzi, which helped a bit, but it still hurt really bad. The back labor killed me and was CONSTANT!! I had no breaks in between... maybe like 30 sec breaks, not even! So it got to a point where I just couldn't handle it and asked for the epidural :( I wish they had checked me to see how much I've dilated before I got the epidural because I was pretty much at 8cm. I was in my own little world and just wanted the epidural... I couldn't think of anything else but pain relief. As soon as the anesthesiologist came in and gave me the drugs, I felt sooooo much better. I still felt the contractions in my abdomen, but my back labor had stopped. Apparently the baby's face was face up instead of face down which is why I had severe back labor. However as soon as I got the epidural, the nurse told me I was ready to push! I was so excited... finally I get to see my little man! So I ended up pushing for 1.5 hours. It was intense and hard to push when you can't feel anything. My mom, MIL, SIL and my sister were all in the room when I gave birth. Initially I told them not to look, but it got to a point where I didn't care at all. I even told my husband not to look cuz it ain't a pretty sight, but they all say it was such a beautiful experience.... not gross at all. Anyhow, as soon as Nathanael came out, the first thing the Doc and all the nurses said was "Oh what a big baby!" They immediately put him on me (he was not at all bloody) and I cried. Hubby had some tears and I think everyone else was teary eyed. I'll never forget that moment, it was truly beautiful. Nathanael was 8lbs and 19.3inches long. Oh and I also had an episiotomy and have a few stitches down there. As far as recovering, I am feeling a lot better now. A day after giving birth I had severe headache's that only went away when laying down. Apparently I had a spinal leak, I think it occurs in 1 in every 200 epidural cases. How lucky. On top of that, I have numb knees. I can still walk, but they buckle when I bend at a certain point. I ended up going to the emerge Wednesday night and Doc said I could get a blood patch done which is injecting blood into my spine to fill up the space, but no freakin' way! Thank God the headaches are gone now.|
