Birth Story....

On 12 April around 1030pm, me and my husband had just got back home from eating dinner and just laid down on the couch to watch a movie. About 20 min later I felt a little trickle and I went to the bathroom and the trickle wouldn't stop! I noticed it had a pink tint so I called Labor and Delivery to see what I should do and they told me to come in. So we were frantically trying to make sure we had everything and started on our way to the hospital (which is about 45 minutes away). On the way there I felt a huge gush! When we finally got to the hospital I got out of the car and water was just pouring everywhere! When I got to L&D they had me change into a gown and all of my clothes were completely soaked, shoes and all! I hadn't dialated at all so they gave me a pill to put under my tongue and told me I had to stay in the bed. She said she would give me another pill in a couple of hours but I probably wouldn't have the baby til sometime the next afternoon. A little while later the contractions started and they were coming fast and strong! The nurse checked me and I was dialated to 2cm, and she gave me some medication in the IV. It made me feel a lot better for about an hour and then I was in excrutiating pain again and I paged the nurse for more but she told me they could only give it to me every four hours so I asked for the epidural. She checked me again and I was already to 6cm so they let me get the epidural. I was told it would kick in after a few contractions but the pain did not decrease at all, at this point I was in so much pain and ready to push! The nurse was like "ok i'll check again since you keep begging to push" than she was like "it's time!" I had dialted from 2cm to 10cm in no time at all! It didn't take much time at all to get her down and they told me to stop pushing and wait for the doctor. By the time she put on the gown and gloves it only took a push or two and she was out! They laid Ariana on my chest and it was the most amazing moment of my life, she was laying on my chest crying and I remember thinking "she has chunky cheeks!" After the nurses checked her out she was perfectly healthy and stayed in the room with me til we left! She was 8lbs 13oz and 20", I hardly tore at all but swelled up so bad! Everything happened so fast! Ariana Jazelle was born on 13 April at 0547am. I was one week overdue and was supposed to come in the next day to be induced! We tried everything to get her to come, bumpy roads, raspberry tea, EVERYTHING, guess she wanted to come on her own time, not ours :)

It took me a few days to get much milk out with the pump. I think the first time I did it I got like 1 1/2 ounces and wondered how in the world I would be able to fill a bottle. But after a few days it starts to come pretty easily.

Sorry you are exhausted I am sure we all understand what it is like. I have a baby bjorn but he hates it and he loves his wrap. It is a Sleep Wrap. Save the receipt to the bjorn just in case.

Oh I hate it when Jamison acts like that. Lucky for me he has a little bouncer chair thing that he loves to sit in. In fact when he starts acting fussy in my arms I put him in that and he relaxes. It is old and was a hammydown from my boss who used it with three kids. We have all these other high tech swings and glider things and this old little bouncer is what he likes. Do you have a wrap? That would be a good way to hold her hands free. I know it isn't the same as actually getting some time to yourself but it is better than nothing. I have used my wrap with Jamison when he refuses to be put down.

my lttle one was going the same thing while nursing, starting a few weeks ago...she still does it occasionally. So odd, but I guess somewhat normal.

My son does the same thing when he gets really hungry! He seems frantic and at night, when my breast are much fuller, he seems to spit up his eintire meal! It seems like so much and when I put him down he seems uncomfortable like he needs to spit up. Someone had mentioned elevating his head some so we put a small towel under his bassinet and it seems to help. Good luck!

One time I fed Jamison and then put him down to bed and as he was laying there my husband heard a funny noise and looked and he had literally projectile vomited. He was laying down and none even got on him because it shot past him. He never did it again and he is happy and healthy so sometimes they just do that stuff. Keeps us on our toes I guess.

Jamison acts fussy on the breast when he needs to burp. He spits up a lot too. You make it sound like your baby fully vomited but I am guessing it was really just spit up...right? A little bit of spit up looks like quite a bit. Anyway, I have read breastfed babies don't suck air like bottle fed babies and that may be true but I will burp Jamison after just a couple minutes of breastfeeding if it sounds like he gulped air and I always get a burp out of him...always!! He usually swallows more air when he is fussy on the boob like you explained so then when I burp him I usually end up with more spit up because he swallowed so much air. Jamison pretty much spits up after almost every meal just more when he fusses at the boob because of all the air he sucks.

I rented my pump. It's a Medela Symphony. It's super.

hi have the medela double pump. it is awesome! it is also expensive. i would at least get the medela single pump. i think evenflo is one of the worst and they hurt. they also do not properly mimic the babies sucking action. thanks

BabyHelton - Friday, 16 May
hi there! I have Medela Pump In Style at it works fabulously, I highly recommend it. I've actually used two different versions of the Pump In Style b/c I am borrowing them from my sister. Anyway, I exclusively pump b/c I had some latching issues, and pumping has become so easy. It's wonderful :)

hi there :) saw your post about breastpumps -- I have the avent isis iq duo and I like it a lot. it's not TOO heavy (and I take it back & forth to work w/ me), I get good, quick results, and there's a lot of flexibility with suction settings. you may want to try renting a couple til you find the one you like best. hope that helps!

I don't know when babies roll over, but I think it's not until month 4 or so. My baby is 6 weeks and has gained 3 pounds and is exactly the right size (according to the charts).
