Hey there! My husband and I are excited that we're pregnant for the 2nd time. We have a very busy 2 1/2yr old boy and felt it was the right time to try for #2 !! So far the pregnancy has been going well. Some days I forget I'm pregnant...other days I can't forget! (pelvic muscle pain, tiredness etc.) but so far so good. We're hoping for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby!!

babies

Update! Jan 27/08

- Just had our 12 week ultrasound on Friday, heartbeat was 157beats/min. Got to take home a disk with pics of the little one...very exciting! So far feeling really good, still tired. No more nausea when I get hungry later at night... Still gaining weight like crazy!! (no surprise there...) 13lbs in the first trimester. BUT I have a plan this time...15lbs/trimester MAX. Going to keep the weight gain under control this time! Last baby I gained 67lbs...and it took 2 years to lose just shy of 80lbs (wanted to go a bit lower than my normal weight before I got pregnant again) Lord can I eat!!! I seriously need to use moderation...everyday!

12 week Ultrasound

March 7/08 Week 17

Baby moves!!...Has been since week 15, much sooner then with my first pregnancy. Feeling good, still tired and hungry...but definately not like during the first trimester. Trying to stay active to minimize the massive weight gain!! I've gained a good 20lbs already (oooh bad I know!), But have set a limit and am still within my own 'boundaries' for gain with this pregnancy.

We're looking forward to our next u/s on the 20th! Soo excited to find out what were having (even more than I was with our first baby). We're rooting for a girl, but either is fine by us. Our little guy is sooo busy, and the thought of 2 little boys running wild around the house is a little bit scary! I'm also dying to start shopping for baby...I LOVE to shop. I want to know if I need to hang on to all my little boy clothes or if I should start shopping for PINK like it's going out of style! I've already got a boy and girl nursery theme/style picked out and am ready to start decorating!!! A little premature? YES! But I'm excited!

March 22/08 Week 19

It's a boy!!! No girls for us...we'll have 2 busy boys on our hands!! Had our 19 week ultrasound. The radiologist said the babies Nuchal fold (skin at the back of the neck) was slightly thicker than average. This can be a 'marker' for downsyndrome. Needless to say, Harry and I were quite upset about this. Saw my doctor yesterday and she said that the slightly thicker than average nuchal fold was nothing to be concerned about. The u/s showed no other markers (ie, shortened longbones, echogenic fochi etc). Also the baby was very active, his hands were open not clinched, (clinched hands are apparently a trait in babies with chromosomal abnormalities). She feels the odds of downs are incredibly low due to my age, and no others markers being found. But I requested a more detailed prenatal diagnostic u/s that I'll have at the beginning of April. We feel relieved that the dr. thinks things will be totally fine, but are still a bit anxious.

April 8/08 Week 21

Feeling good this week. A bit over emotional but thats nothing new! Met with a genetic counsellor last week (the maternal fetal medicine radiology clinic said that another u/s wasn't necessary). The counsellor pretty much went over what we had already discussed with my doctor. Apparently my odds of the baby having Downs is around 2%. Higher than I'd like, but still there is a 98% chance the baby is 'fine'. It still weighs on my mind all the time and I'm praying that the baby will be healthy. Time will tell. I 've ordered our furniture for the nursery, we're going for a white and blue 'under the sea' theme. Nothing too kitchy, but I did find some really cute bedding. The furniture could take upwards of 14 weeks to arrive...needless to say it's coming on a slow boat FROM China! Hard to be patient when I want to start setting up the room NOW!

May 6/08 Week 26

Babies moving all the time, especially busy in the evenings when I'm trying to relax. I'm feeling pretty good, more energy than in the past. Hubby is in Europe for 3 weeks, so it's me and the 2 year old...I'm also working full-time while he's away. WHEW! I forgot how tiring working full-time can be while pregnant (usually I work 3 days a week only). I've got to go for my glucose level test as well as book a time for a 3D ultrasound. Super excited to see what this little guy is gonna look like! The nursery is coming together...my crib, glider and change table have arrived, just waiting on the dresser to come in. We're going to paint the room as soon as hubby returns from overseas. Can't wait!!

July 7/08 Week 34

Finally completely done the nursery. So happy with how it turned out! (take a look at the nursery pics...) Feeling good still, but not sleeping as well. I need a pillow for my legs and my tummy...getting rounder by the minute it seems! Really getting excited about the baby coming soon...he's still pretty active and kicking all the time. Had a 30 week ultrasound and they said he was breech...really hoping he turns soon!!! Heartburn and grouchiness are my worst 'symptoms' right now.. some days I'm in such a bad mood. Hormones are CRAZY! The countdown is on...praying these last few weeks are manageable!!!

It sure is tiring having a toddler and being preg. I know what you mean! My kiddo also naps every day - 3 hours! I don't nap when she does very often, but sometimes I just have to. (Yesterday I took a LONG nap!) The 2nd tri is getting easier lately - except for my horrible low back pains. Do you know what you're having yet? I won't find out until 3/20 - can't wait! Congrats and good luck throughout your pregnancy!

Thanks for the post and congrats on your pregnancy as well! I have been feeling great but worry about everything, I'm not sure if this is normal for your first pregnancy or if I'm just paranoid but it drives my husband crazy. I am scheduled to deliver at Foothills, how about yourself?

Thank you so much for your input.gotta love greek names!

Yes 6 weeks is way too soon to leave your baby. Some women take 3 months off but without pay which sucks big time..! But yea I love my job because it's flexible and fun..oh and the money is great too lol..

model2mommy - Thursday, 21 Feb
Yes i'm going to continue after the baby is born..I actually have a shoot scheduled at about 25 wks prego..so I think that will be exciting!! Since I work for an agency..I make my own schedule..but most jobs in the here only give 6wks maximum after the birth of a baby which sucks..you're very lucky to have a whole year that is wonderful!!

Thank you!!! My pregnancy is going great so far..no nausea which is a major plus..find out what my baby is in less than 11 days (yes I am counting down lol)..hope you're doing great too!!!

Oh I am so tired of all of this!!! Yes, delivering at Foothills. You? Went to babycare essentials and breastfeeding class this past weekend....I'm such a bad mom...we skipped out one afternoon!!! LOL! How are you doing?

Thank you for the congrats. Congratulations to you too! I hope your pregnancy is going well. Mine's been o.k. (it's my first and I've been dealing with some morning sickness/vomitting and heartburn, but I guess it's worth it). I'm definitely liking this 'warm' weather though and I hope you are too. Talk to you soon.

Personally, I am looking forward to the Mommy and Me movie days!!!

That's the thing with pregnancy...you can basically gain pretty much anything and it will still work out ok. Look at Kate Hudson...she gained 70 lbs and she is a stick! And good ole Salema....beautiful woman, not certain how much she gained, but it's falling off her too! It just is what it is and everyone's body will react differently!
I don't know about the work thing. I am getting to be quite old (as is hubby!) and we might need to concentrate on kicking out a couple more first! I can always work....can't always have kids (or the energy required to keep up with them!!!). But I know me, I am such a type 'A' personality, I might need something to do after 6 months...although I hear that's when the kids start become really fun (less like 'a piece of luggage' as one of my GUY friends said!)

How about you...do you work outside of the home?

I think you and I have similar builds!!! I am 5'10 and usually between 160-170. Even though I weighed that much, it never really look like it. Tall and big build, you can hide it better....sort of liek all this baby weight! Right before baby I went on Nutrisystem and dropped down to 148, so I was quite pleased. It IS a constant battle. I am determined not to go past 190 lbs!!! My BF/DH is 205....he is tall and lanky and can wear my jeans.....it is so sick! I gained a LOT in the 1st and 2nd tri. When the heartburn got really bad in week 27/28 I couldn't eat 2-3 hours before bedtime and I found I didn't gain as much after that. Food really is comforting. If it weren't for the heartburn, I am positive I would be up significantly more!!!!

butterblocksmom - Monday, 4 Feb
Oh thank you...I thought I would have a really hard time with the whole weight gain thing, but I am just loving being pregnant, it all seems worth it. I think I will really start to stress when baby is out and the pounds are still on!! I'm not happy with the double chins and the orange peel thighs right now, but I am too in love with my belly to care!! Now when baby is out and belly is all flabby....that's when I'll really start to panic! My age is against me too! Did you find it easy or hard after your first one?

natalie75 - Monday, 4 Feb
I was deep down hoping for a girl to buy girl stuff but a boy is great. I am not sure how I have gained so little weight. At first I hard MS but it wasn't to bad. I feel my belly is pretty big fo 30 weeks it is very heavy. I have lost weight in other parts like my arms, legs and sides. I didn't get rid of much of the weight I gained with my son probably only 25 lbs so I guess it is a good thing. I haven't been eating like I did with my first either, and I have been alot more active. He is a very busy boy. With my first all I did all day was sit at a desk and then go home have a nap, have dinner and watch tv. I have a prenatal Yoga video, I got for christmas but I haven't tried it yet. I was doing yoga and pilates per pregnancy and I did a few class of pilates after MS passed but christmas came and I got to busy and went away for a month and a half. I was also taking my son swimming everyweek. And when he goes swimming at the wave pool it isn't for just an hour he wants to stay for 4. So I guess all those things add up.

natalie75 - Saturday, 2 Feb
Hi How are you. Today I went through all my sons clothes and took the crib out of storage and the carseat. now all I have to do is wash it all and figure out where to put the crib. I was thinking of putting it my sons room since he only sleeps in there half the night anyway (wish I never started bringing him to our bed). We have an extra room but it is the toy room and I kind of want it to stay that way If I could find a bassinet for cheap I will use that. Before I got pregnant I stared to sell my stuff and then I stopped. Which is a good thing.

Wow, that is amazing maternity leave. Is it paid leave or do they just hold your position? We do not have anything like that here as I'm sure you've heard.

jenlove - Friday, 1 Feb
I would love to have an epidural but may not be able to. I had back surgery years ago and have metal rods and brackets in my back which may make it impossible. But I'm prepared for it, or as best you can prepare yourself! I'm getting excited!

Thanks for the compliment on the nursery. I have NO imagination, so bringing that all together was quite the coup for me! We live in West Hillhurst, close to Kensington. It is miserably cold!!!

I have had a wonderful pregnancy, thank you. Aside from gaining 35+ lbs (I was a social smoker...I stopped the moment I found out), sleeping constantly in the 1st tri, in the 3rd tri MASSIVE heartburn (thank god for Zantac), insomnia that starts at 1 p.m. and doesn't stop, and just feeling really tired. All in all, very smooth and I feel very lucky. We are starting late and I found out the first week of Stampede that I was preggers....so needless to say I was worried that bub wouldn't make it due to all my drinking!!!!

How about you? You have kids already? A little boy, I see...do you know what this one is? I guess it is too early...you must be excited about the babymoon (second trimester)!! How were the first 12 weeks?

butterblocksmom - Thursday, 31 Jan
Hiya! I'm from calgary too! How is your pregnancy going?

jenlove - Thursday, 31 Jan
Yes, we picked Day at the Zoo for the nursery. So cute! Our furniture is expresso and we are painting light green. We originally went to a specialist for NT testing and to check my cervix. Then it was discovered I had placenta previa. But I had an u/s every month and loved seeing my little man! All my tests came back great and my previa is resolving so we're all good! How are you? Have you had an u/s yet? Hoping for a boy or girl? Hope you're going great! :)

It is in the next twon over about 5 mins away. My herbalist was telling me about it. After my first was born Io thought he was going to be the one and only but if I ever did get pregnant again I wanted to have it at home but then she told me about this place and I thought it was great.

momofthree - Wednesday, 30 Jan
Thank You for your email, I see you're from Calgary as well! The pregnancy is going well so far, I'm just really tired because I'm not sleeping that great, and I cannot believe the rate of 'growth' I'm experiencing! Ah well.. all the best to you and your family

Hi, Went for my midwife appointment today everything was good. measuring 32 weeks that ok. I am liking the midwifs, so much better then a doctor I think, well the Dr I had for my first. Where I am having the baby is like a birth center in a small town hospital about 15 mins outside of edmonton. It is all natural no drugs that is what scares me the most but after the experience I had with my first I am really looking forward to this. My appiontment are different then others. from week 12-week 20 you have individual appointments with the midwife and then from week 20-week 36 you have group appoinmtent with about 10 other women that are due in the same month as you. In the groupd we do our own blood pressure, weight , etc and write it in our charts and the midwife measures you and checks the heart beat and once everyone has been checked then there is a hour disccusion with all the ladys on all sorts of topics from nutrition, sex, etc. The rooms are really nice also, the are very big they have a jucuzzi or a big bath tub in the and also a murphy bed for you husband or someone else to spend the night in your room.
