Michael is HOME!!! He came home Wed. May 14. We are so happy. He is doing very well. I did not get one bit of sleep his first night home, but my hubs and I have worked out a system that will work for now so we can each get about 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep. The baby is very well behaved, and only cries when hungry or gassy.... for now! We are crossing our fingers that he continues to be so predictable for several more weeks at least.

May 12, 2008

Michael is doing very well! The nurse wants to pull his NG tube today to see how he eats by bottle with no back up. She also will feed him when he wants it instead of on a 3 hour schedule. She thinks he will do better that way! She said when he cries for food before his feeding time, he tires himself out crying and doesn't always finish the bottle. She also told me to bring our car seat in tonight so they can make sure he breathes well while sitting in it for a while. I am so excited, if all of this goes well, he'll be home soon!!

April 30, 2008

All is still going well! Michael is up to 4 lbs, 8 oz, and has been moved to the continuing care nursery, a lesser intensive care part of the NICU. We are waiting for him to be able to breast or bottle feed, which we can hopefully try next week. He does have a couple of episodes everyday where he drops his heart rate, but by the time a nurse can walk 5 steps over to him he has fixed it on his own. The docs say he will grow out of these too. I am still pumping, and get about 5- 6 oz a day. I started taking Reglan last week to increase my supply, and this is an increase from the 3-4 oz a day I was getting. I am not stressing about the breast feeding... just doing what I can!

April 15, 2008

Michael is on the upswing! he gained 50 grams since yesterday, so he is now 3 lbs 8 oz. He got as low as 3 lb 4 oz since delivery. We are so excited about that weight gain! He is eating all breastmilk, and I am pumping every two hours at home. I even get up in the middle of the night! They also started lowering the temp in his little isolette, and he is maintaining his body temp. They think he will be moved to an open bassinet soon. It is all good news! Thank you all so much for your prayers. I know he is doing so well because of the many people who are pulling for him. We appreciate you all sooo much!

Update- April 6, 2008

I had my little boy by emergency C-section after a second episode of severe bleeding. I had been on hospital bedrest for 16 days at that point. The bleeding started at 7:35, and Michael Joseph was born at 8:00 on the button. It was a life changing experience, and I will likely come back to add details of the c-section experience.

My little Michael is in the NICU, and will continue to be for the next several weeks. I am not changing my profile to show that I gave birth, because I plan to track him still by the week of pregnancy he should be in. He was born at 30 weeks 5 days, and I will continue to think of him by corrected gestational age until closer to his due date.

Also, I love the mommies in my gestational group! They are very supportive, opinionated, and funny! I will continue to follow them through their pregnancies, and want to share my little preemie's progress with them. What a great website this is!!

!vickylovesanth! - Tuesday, 17 June
how long did they keep michael in hospital ? xxxx

tls080 - Monday, 16 June
It was like an ounce to two ounces that I gave him. It was a couple days ago. His bowel movements went back to normal. He had a couple good bowel movements the same day I gave him the apple juice. I haven't given him anymore because he has been regular since. Also apple juice is somewhat acidic so it can cause them to get a diaper rash. If your baby gets regular and it isn't hard then you should be fine until he gets clogged up again. Good Luck

awww :] so adoorable. man hes getting so big. olivia isnt even eight pounds yet. lol

cali.momma - Monday, 16 June
hah well crying does make you tired lol. she had it off and on all day! i was so frustrated. had another good cry last night, but a lot happend financially yesterday, and with a 10 day old baby, money issues arent the best thing to have

cali.momma - Monday, 16 June
heh, i know. its weird how alert she is. when she was born she didnt go to sleep for about 6 1/2 hours and she was awake my whole labor. doing her normal kicking and such :P lol. and she does that now. once a day she will stay awake for about 6 hours. ugh, today she had the "im going to cry for no reason" fit. i cant STAND that!!! i was hoping it wouldnt happen to me.

startingover - Monday, 16 June
Thanks for the nursery room comments!

They were born at 31 weeks on the nose. We found out today they might come home as early as Wednesday! I have a lot of work to do around the house before they get home. I'm getting my cousins who are out of college for the summer and looking to make a little money come over and help me clean! I also have a baby shower scheduled at my house on Saturday!

cali.momma - Monday, 16 June
heh. i wish she had a schedule. shes insanelyyyy laid back. she sleeps 5 hours or so. eats, then is up for about 6 hrs. shes hilarious. she squeals soo much! hah. im glad im feeling mentally alright, but im still sore as hell! im bleeding from my stitches so much and the pain meds arent helping

cali.momma - Sunday, 15 June
im good, still really sore though. being home feels normal. like shes always been here. hows michael doing??

knockoutmom - Sunday, 15 June
thanks for your help. i needed someone to tell me that! i wasnt sure about the whole weight loss issue anymore since she already started to gain so im glad to you told me that. shes up to like 2-3 ounces every 2-3 hours, it always changes though. having a pump is a blessing!!! im glad your hormones are evening out. cant wait til mine do! its worse now than it was while i was pregnant which is crazy. then again thats a big adjustment to have a baby!

hopefulmom2b - Sunday, 15 June
I just looked at all of your pictures! How cute! It's funny because we have all the same pictures... first time to hold, first bottle, no tape! What great milestones!

hopefulmom2b - Sunday, 15 June
Thanks! Yes, I too have been eating oatmeal to no avail! I think I am about to give up on the punping if no change after wednesday, that would make a week. Amd like you said, when they come home it will be too much to try and pump and take care of both of them! I hope they come home in about a week. More power to those women who can do it, but I think my PCOS and previous breat sugery are working against me! What week gestation was your son born? How many weeks was he in the NICU?

Question, I have had several friends who had preemies and they were able to file for medicaid. Do you know anything about that?

collsbaby - Sunday, 15 June
My baby is 11 weeks and I held her constantly for the first month+. I got so much crap from my MIL and my hubby's grandma. They said I was going to spoil her and i just kept on holding her. She was in my belly for 9 months and it's hard to just let them be alone. For us too, we need that closeness from them I think too. I find myself not holding her as much now because she is content for longer periods of time on her own just looking at her mobile and stuff and it lets me get more stuff done. But for the first several weeks I let the dishes pile up because all I wanted to do was hold my baby and I did just that! I don't regret it at all! You hold that baby! You're his mommy!!! Besides, it goes by sooooo fast, then they'll be too busy running around playing for us to hold them al the time!!

juliedue2008 - Sunday, 15 June
Thanks! I happy to hear your baby is doing great after his NICU stay! And oh so cute, he looks so cute in the picture with his cousin!

hopefulmom2b - Sunday, 15 June
Hi, I saw your message on the preemie site. I just had identical twins at 31 wks. They are doing great. My question is about the Reglan you took. I have been on it for about 4 days and havn't seen much increase. It takes me all day to get about 2 ounces total! I didn't know how long it took it to start working for you.

knockoutmom - Sunday, 15 June
how are you feeding him? my baby blues are killing me and i keep taking it out on myself about her losing weight. im so paranoid shes gonna lose more! at her doc appt thursday she gained 2.5oz which was great but her feedings have just been crazy! everyone tells me different and when i try to breastfeed 2-3 hours half the time she falls asleep and wont finish so i supplement her with 1oz formula. lately shes been spitting up so much though and it hurts me so bad to see! i just want to make sure shes eating enough to get bigger but its hard when she falls asleep and then i try the formula and she spits half of it up!

Rachel918 - Sunday, 15 June
Thanks. We have noticed today that inclining her to sleep and feed she does a little better. She is so content besides all of this and staying up all night long lol. congrats on your little boy that is so wonderful how well he did so early on!!!

momx4 - Saturday, 14 June
Thanks so much for the reply!! At least I know I'm not the only one feeling this way.

mizzsnazzy - Saturday, 14 June
Ha, are you getting the "Why circumsize?" too?

knockoutmom - Saturday, 14 June
thanks! i just gave her a kiss (or two) for you!! riley wants you to give michael one from her, too (apparently shes into older men!!) :) i wouldnt be afraid if i was you to have another c section at all. ive heard the same thing about emergency c sections being more of a pain than scheduled ones. ill definitely be doing it that way from now on! uh oh, poopy diaper is calling me!!

mizzsnazzy - Saturday, 14 June
All that matters is that your baby is healthy and happy. You have no idea how many people look at me funny when I tell them I'm formula feeding already. They seem so disgusted by it. I can't stand people like that. The baby is happy and healthy and formula might not be breast milk, but it's pretty darn close and is nowadays basically the same. Nathan is thriving on it :) He went for his 4 month shots today and weighs 15lbs!

jenlove - Friday, 13 June
Thank you so much. That really helps.

How are you doing?

sherryh - Friday, 13 June
I'm glad I'm not the only that has switched to formula , I wasnt getting enough milk either since my lil guy was eating 4 ozs instead of the 3. I felt so bad about it but I looked at it as I tryed for 4 weeks better than nothing right. The only thing is my lil guy has trouble pooing what formula is your lil one on?
