Saturday, 23 August Hey lady! We had the meeting with my stepsons teachers today. The counselor and the curriculum (supervisor or something, can't remember her full title) were there also. We got some seriously shocking news. Out of 89 questions on the math placement exam he got 2 right. He got less than half of the language arts questions correct. He's failing every class. His writing is on a 1st grade level. We've decided to put him back in 4th grade and he'll start IEP as well. I thought he was way off from where he should be but 1st grade?! How in the HELL did his mom not notice? Anyway, so that's where we are. And if that doesn't seem to be helping then we bring in the school psychologist and talk about testing for learning disabilities. Apparently his teachers in California did try to talk to his mom but she just wrote it off as his teachers are mean and try to make her feel like she's a bad mom when she should have listened to them and freaking checked his homework every once in a while to see how bad it is. So thanks for all of the advice! Hopefully this will get him started on the right track. ll bree ll -
Saturday, 23 August shes seen them twice since she had them. she had them yesterday. she had a lot of bleeding after her csection and her skin was rejecting the staples so she couldnt get up and down into a wheelchair much. the girl opened her eyes when we were there. omg!! so adorable! ahh.
when are you trying for more? ll bree ll -
Saturday, 23 August :[ yeah. they gave the boy (the bigger one) a 90% chance and the girl 80%. so REALLY high. theyre doing so well. but it crushes my heart knowing they cant see their dad for a while. :[ Rachel918 -
Saturday, 23 August It is sad but there is only so much me and my husband can do and say to her to get her to listen. I think she is making a bad choice but its not my life! venusenvy -
Saturday, 23 August Isn't he precious! I am so in love with him sometimes I can hardly stand it!! As my mother would say, "I could just eat him with a spoon." Though I suppose we all feel that way. :) azmommytobe -

Thursday, 21 August Thanks for your comment about napping... glad to hear I'm not alone! I think you're right... if they get over-tired, they just don't sleep during the night. Tonight will be the real test for us though... my mom & I brought Maisie to meet her great-grandparents in Iowa, and she was in the car a total of 8 hrs. Slept the whole time. We'll see how she does! melliebellie -
Thursday, 21 August wow, that's amazing. i guess sleepless nights are probably nothing after making it through all of that. i can't believe how tiny he was! almost smaller than his bottle. : ) he's absolutely beautiful though.
i just keep telling myself that she's only 11 weeks and will get it eventually. we're really just now trying to start the whole routine thing so it will just take a little while. just so stressed about having to go back to work next week. although she did just fall asleep after only a few minutes of me putting her down at 830 so that's awesome. ll bree ll -
Thursday, 21 August we got the house! :D socalgal -
Wednesday, 20 August Good luck on your first day back at work!!! socalgal -
Wednesday, 20 August Oh yes. Unfortunately, I am familiar with the clutter problem. How did becoming a mommy turn me into such a packrat???!!!
I think maybe my camera is just too old. My friend gave it to me as a birthday gift in April 2003, and it's not like it was high end to begin with. I think there have been lots of improvements in five years to where it should be replaced. Especially now that being the genius I am, I dunked it in a tub full of water. I put it around my neck to snap some shots of Alex bathing. . . As soon as I put her in the water I hear a big "DUNK!" Lol! lilgracie -
Wednesday, 20 August Wow. Low ability, low achievers. That's harsh. I think, based on what you've just described, that he really may have a learning disability. It seems to me that his achievement is VERY far behind where he possibly could be.
Thanks for the prayers. lilgracie -
Tuesday, 19 August I guess he seems like a smart kid when we're just talking. Again, I have no experience so I don't really know.
What do you mean by a two year discrepancy between ability and achievement? Andais -
Tuesday, 19 August Thanks! Michael looks so happy in all of his pictures, I always smile when looking at them. ll bree ll -

Tuesday, 19 August That's right, you teach 5th grade!! I emailed his teacher late last night. I explained that I was very concerned but wasn't sure if he was simply a normal 10 year old and I don't realize that because I don't have any experience with them, or if he IS behind and struggling and what can we do to help him. My mom taught for years (middle school mostly) and she had some concerns of a learning disability but didn't want to bring it up to us because she tries not to butt in. When I finally brought it up to her she was so relieved. I'm sure that someone would probably just write him off as a kid with ADD but I was one of those kids who were just written of as ADD and spent years on ritalin and I remember how that stuff made me feel and I certainly did NOT have ADD. His writing is barely legible but I was thinking maybe that's because he's left handed? He has no concept of which words to capitalize. He'll write a sentence and just randomly capitalize words on a whim. He can't spell words which I honestly feel like a 5th grader should be able to spell. He didn't know the months of the year. Should they know that? He thought Washington DC was in Washington State and had no idea that DC was our nations capitol. When we make him read to us he just glazes over words, guessing what they are, and continues on. We stop him and have him break them down into syllables (he didn't know what that word was) and by the time he finally gets the last syllable he's forgotten the first. He adds letters which aren't there. He takes away letters that are. His math is decent but it takes him FOREVER. He was doing factors last night and had to ask me SEVERAL times how to figure out the sum of the digits of a number. If I hold his hand and walk him through every single problem he will eventually get them and we'll get a good pace going. As soon as I walk away it's like he forgets everything we just did. He knows I'm going to check his homework. Then he hands me a math assignment that's only 50% done. I said "Were you just going to hand this in half done?" and he just stares at the floor and apologizes. And he said he didn't understand that half of the assignment but it was the same exact thing as the first half. He had to read 30 sentences and label the sentences as interrogative, declarative, this is not a sentence, etc. He labeled the two incomplete sentences as declarative. I told him those two were wrong. They were clearly not sentences. He comes back and has labelled them as something else. I made him read the directions again to make sure he understood the assignment. He then proceeds to mark two DIFFERENT sentences as not a complete sentence. Does this sound like somethings up? Tuesday, 19 August LOL @ him sleeping all day long. Just your luck.
I love the profile pic. Adorable lol.
Little mama is so nosy it's hard to get her to stay on her tummy for too long. She gets pissed
because she cant see anything. She watches TV especially gymnastics. She was totally into that. Kenya said the other day she was watching Sesame Street and gigglin
her butt off. LOL Gotta love it.
Your little man is a fighter. You can see it in his eyes. He's got mad spirit. I'm super happy for you. socalgal -
Tuesday, 19 August Thanks! I always enjoy reading your posts.
