Michael is HOME!!! He came home Wed. May 14. We are so happy. He is doing very well. I did not get one bit of sleep his first night home, but my hubs and I have worked out a system that will work for now so we can each get about 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep. The baby is very well behaved, and only cries when hungry or gassy.... for now! We are crossing our fingers that he continues to be so predictable for several more weeks at least.

May 12, 2008

Michael is doing very well! The nurse wants to pull his NG tube today to see how he eats by bottle with no back up. She also will feed him when he wants it instead of on a 3 hour schedule. She thinks he will do better that way! She said when he cries for food before his feeding time, he tires himself out crying and doesn't always finish the bottle. She also told me to bring our car seat in tonight so they can make sure he breathes well while sitting in it for a while. I am so excited, if all of this goes well, he'll be home soon!!

April 30, 2008

All is still going well! Michael is up to 4 lbs, 8 oz, and has been moved to the continuing care nursery, a lesser intensive care part of the NICU. We are waiting for him to be able to breast or bottle feed, which we can hopefully try next week. He does have a couple of episodes everyday where he drops his heart rate, but by the time a nurse can walk 5 steps over to him he has fixed it on his own. The docs say he will grow out of these too. I am still pumping, and get about 5- 6 oz a day. I started taking Reglan last week to increase my supply, and this is an increase from the 3-4 oz a day I was getting. I am not stressing about the breast feeding... just doing what I can!

April 15, 2008

Michael is on the upswing! he gained 50 grams since yesterday, so he is now 3 lbs 8 oz. He got as low as 3 lb 4 oz since delivery. We are so excited about that weight gain! He is eating all breastmilk, and I am pumping every two hours at home. I even get up in the middle of the night! They also started lowering the temp in his little isolette, and he is maintaining his body temp. They think he will be moved to an open bassinet soon. It is all good news! Thank you all so much for your prayers. I know he is doing so well because of the many people who are pulling for him. We appreciate you all sooo much!

Update- April 6, 2008

I had my little boy by emergency C-section after a second episode of severe bleeding. I had been on hospital bedrest for 16 days at that point. The bleeding started at 7:35, and Michael Joseph was born at 8:00 on the button. It was a life changing experience, and I will likely come back to add details of the c-section experience.

My little Michael is in the NICU, and will continue to be for the next several weeks. I am not changing my profile to show that I gave birth, because I plan to track him still by the week of pregnancy he should be in. He was born at 30 weeks 5 days, and I will continue to think of him by corrected gestational age until closer to his due date.

Also, I love the mommies in my gestational group! They are very supportive, opinionated, and funny! I will continue to follow them through their pregnancies, and want to share my little preemie's progress with them. What a great website this is!!

Thank you!! We got so many cute outfits that I don't want to waste them. My mother in law bought him like 3 4th of July outfits, and all the outfits that I have from the shower. I just love dressing him up. I hate undressing him to change his diaper, but the outfits are too cute!!
Good luck with your surgery, I heard it is like having a c-section is that true??

knockoutmom - Wednesday, 9 July
oddly enough i never thought of feeding her in her carseat! haha, that makes it seem a lot easier. i'll just be happy when the car ride is over. thanks!!! :D

The 7 and 3-year-old fight over who gets to give him a pacifier or who gets to hold him. The 1-year-old might possibly be a little jealous. The first month he was fine with having a baby around, but then the last 3 weeks he's been taking away the baby's pacifier and hitting at him. He's not doing it to be mean; I think he's just facinated at the fact that he can make the baby cry. But I can't leave the baby alone with any of them, so I have to put the baby in my room and close the door any time that I need to do clothes or wash dishes. It ties me down just a little. So I think that things will be easier when the baby isn't so fragile and can interact with the older children. My husband doesn't even feel comfortable with changing the baby or holding him very often because he's so much smaller than the other babies were. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who still has to get up a couple of times a night to feed their baby. :-) Oh, I saw the new picture of Michael on the boppy pillow. He looks adorable! Mine can't quite hold his head up that high. :-)

Hey! I just wondered how you and Michael were doing. My son is almost 7 weeks old, and still not sleeping through the night. I'm still breastfeeding him, but he wouldn't seem to fill up today, so I gave him some rice cereal and it seemed to satisfy him. In fact, he's been asleep for 4 hours now. I hope that you're doing well!

ladobruk - Wednesday, 9 July
Wow, I won't complain then. I thought mine was large at 7 cm!!! :) No, I can't feel it from the outside.

jcody777 - Tuesday, 8 July
How are you? I have not been on a lot, I have just been SOOO busy!! Things are good with us. I am so happy, but I have to start back at work on Monday. Not happy about that!! Anhow. just wanted to drop by and say hi.

knockoutmom - Tuesday, 8 July
ill have to try that! the tylenol thing, too. im so worried about how its gonna go. cause i know we'll have a few feedings in there and im not sure how im gonna pull them off. especially because i pump, too! i really am afraid to take her out of her carseat while the car is in motion and do it in the back. it sounds the easiest but i dont want to endanger her. i just hate thinking that we'll have to stop for 30 minutes every 3-4 hours at a rest stop! im sure it will work out though. thanks for the advice!!

You have a great attitude! Just keep staying positive! There might be a moment where you're in pain and you start to think what have I done but just keep telling yourself that a couple weeks you will be a NEW WOMAN. I stayed one night too and the first night I was very nauseous and in ALOT of pain and I wanted to get up but I had a catherter and couldn't. The first week was the worst but by the second week I was up and moving! My Fibroid weighed almost 2 pounds. You will have alot of swelling but don't freak out it goes away fast. I have lost 5 pounds since the surgery. I feel way more energetic!!!!!! That's the first thing I noticed!!!!! Just make sure you walk a little each day. The longer you sit or lay down the harder it is when you do get up. I would sit up for an hour then go to the bathroom and lay down for an hour and I just kept doing that over and over. The morning when I woke up was the hardest and it took me a while to get up and get to the bathroom but I was able to do it by myself. Everyone kept wanting to help but honestly I had to do it my own cause no matter how you move you're bending your belly and it's uncomfortable-JUST TAKE YOUR TIME!!!!! The other thing that I've noticed is Aunt Flow didn't kick my butt as bad this time. I'm usually in so much pain and it's very heavy but not this time-WOOO HOOO. The Dr. said I would bleed off and on for 6 weeks but I barely bled at all. I took a couple pads with me to the hospital and when I left I got home (hour long drive-WATCH FOR BUMPS-THEY SUCK) anywho when I got home I went to the bathroom and didn't even need it. I still wore one all the time to be careful but like I said what bleeding I did have was very light.

Gage is doing great! He's getting to be a little butterball. He has caught up on his weight and is now 18.11-BIG BOY! He'll be 10 months old on the 14th and I can hardly believe how fast the time is flying by!!!! He is kind of crawling and is starting to really love eating his fruits and veggies. He loves the beechnut sweet potatos and chicken dinner and the apples and blueberries for desert. I gave him a couple gerber puffs the other night and he was making the funniest faces. I broke them in half and he did really well. I tried them with him a month ago and he got choked-poor guy, but I'm thinking he's ready now. I'm gradually introducing things to him-I don't want to overload him.

How's Michael doing? Don't you just love being a Mama? I think if we have anymore it will be in 2 or 3 years. Give your sweet boy a BIG hug from me. How old is he and much does he weigh now?

~Laura

Haha I saw the post you posted. I get up everyday holding my little boy and brush my teeth, wash my face, make breakfast and type all with one hand. I learned not to take getting up quick in the mornings and getting ready so fast for granite!

onelove - Tuesday, 8 July
Sounds like everything is coming together for your surgery-I know you are feeling very relieved. You'll be so happy you did it-TRUST ME!!! I feel better each day! It's been almost a month and I still have pain and some days are harder than others but I feel better and that's what's important. As far as sex the first time was like after you have a baby. You're a little freaked and just take your time and ease back into it. My Dr. gave us the go ahead at my 2 week post-op appointment. Initially they said to wait 6 weeks but she said no go ahead and that she wanted to know if there were any issues. I hope this isn't TMI
I just can't get over how much my belly has gone down. My clothes fit better and now I'm working on losing the last 13 pounds to get to my pre-prego weight and then I'll work on dropping 10 more!!! I still go to the bathroom alot-not as much but still pretty often but the Dr. said that will get better too. I'm so excited for you and I am praying that everything goes well with your surgery as well as recovery. Will you have to stay in the hospital?

Your Fibroid friend,
~Laura

I just wanted to wish you good luck with your surgery next week. Please keep me posted on how everything goes!

ladobruk - Tuesday, 8 July
Hey I saw your post about the fibroid. I also have one, well 3 actually but 2 are quite small. I am wondering how big yours is and where about is it? I ask because they are pretty reluctant to remove it here but likely would if I pressed the issue. I am not sure yet. I didn’t even know I had it until I was pregnant. I had pretty terrible periods in the past; I am not sure what they will be like when they return. Also explains why certain sexual positions are uncomfortable. It did make my pregnancy quite uncomfortable, lot’s of cramping etc. I am sure it was part of the reason my delivery was so screwed up although ultra sounds showed it wasn’t impeding on the birth canal.

thanx it may just be something i have to live with

Oh sorry! I meant to try belly time on the Boppy..like you said you were doing. I do put a video on something on the laptop for him. He doesn't have a good attention span...but he loves being in that position. He can hold his head up for almost 30 seconds!

HDugan26 - Monday, 7 July
Hey girl! I actually had 2 rupture right before I got pregnant! My dr. said my ovaries looked great while I was pregnant...so for me that was a HUGE perk. Lucky timing really! But now I'm getting nervous as I haven't ever been off B/C basically since I was 16 to help control the growth of my fibroids. And now, being 6 weeks out of Dillon's labor, I'm a little worried they're growing again. My follow up appt. got moved back to 7/14, so I'm not real happy about that either! Did they put you back on b/c after you stopped b/f and pumping? I wanted to get Mirena, but they really want me back on hormones! UGH!!!

colombianmama - Sunday, 6 July
Thank you for your response. I found out I had fibroids during my first ultrasound when I was pregnant. The doctor just kept watching them and said it wasn't a problem for delivery because they were on top of my uterus. My pregnancy was pretty normal (just some good days and bad days like most of us) and no major problems during delivery. I even forgot I had them. But then, when my lochia was almost down to nothing, one night I woke up with this mayor pain on my back and lower abdomen, rushed to the bathroom and was passing this huge, bigger than a lime cloths, of course I call my doctor in the middle of the night but it was a Friday and he prescribed some medicine to stop the bleeding during the weekend until I saw him on Monday. He sent me an ultrasound because he thought the bleeding was due some stuff left after delivery. But not, they were there, big fibroids making me miserable. They said it wasn't a big deal and if I was ok we could wait becuase by that time my doctor went on vacation and I was leaving to Seattle for two weeks (I came back yesterday) I decided to leave like that until I came back from Seattle. Besides I was hoping that the birth control would regulate the bleeding and everything would be fine. But man I was wrong. My bleeding goes back to normal period bleeding for about 5 days and then every week I have one or two BAD days where I have mayor bleeding, pain and biiiiig cloths. It's embarassing because I keep wondering when I'm going to have an accident and I got to the point where I have to wear depends during those days to minimize the accidents. I have an appointment on Wednesday and I want to discuss my options, because I'm tired about this situation. I'm also planning on having another baby probably by next year (well, depends of what the doctor says). But I been reading about the procedures to remove them and I'm not sure what I want to do about that.

I'm sorry that you had such a hard pregnancy, but I hope everything is ok now. At the end what really matters is that all that bad experience is part of the past and you and your baby are healthy, happy, and sleep deprived (hehe) just like the rest of us. When are you having your surgery? I hope everything goes fine and they finally go away, so you can enjoy you little one and your life better. I'll keep you posted about what my doctor says.

One more question. Because of the fibroids, do you still look like if you were six or so months pregnant? I hate that, I'm tired of using my pregnacy cloths and I really want to go back to my regular ones.
