Michael is HOME!!! He came home Wed. May 14. We are so happy. He is doing very well. I did not get one bit of sleep his first night home, but my hubs and I have worked out a system that will work for now so we can each get about 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep. The baby is very well behaved, and only cries when hungry or gassy.... for now! We are crossing our fingers that he continues to be so predictable for several more weeks at least.

May 12, 2008

Michael is doing very well! The nurse wants to pull his NG tube today to see how he eats by bottle with no back up. She also will feed him when he wants it instead of on a 3 hour schedule. She thinks he will do better that way! She said when he cries for food before his feeding time, he tires himself out crying and doesn't always finish the bottle. She also told me to bring our car seat in tonight so they can make sure he breathes well while sitting in it for a while. I am so excited, if all of this goes well, he'll be home soon!!

April 30, 2008

All is still going well! Michael is up to 4 lbs, 8 oz, and has been moved to the continuing care nursery, a lesser intensive care part of the NICU. We are waiting for him to be able to breast or bottle feed, which we can hopefully try next week. He does have a couple of episodes everyday where he drops his heart rate, but by the time a nurse can walk 5 steps over to him he has fixed it on his own. The docs say he will grow out of these too. I am still pumping, and get about 5- 6 oz a day. I started taking Reglan last week to increase my supply, and this is an increase from the 3-4 oz a day I was getting. I am not stressing about the breast feeding... just doing what I can!

April 15, 2008

Michael is on the upswing! he gained 50 grams since yesterday, so he is now 3 lbs 8 oz. He got as low as 3 lb 4 oz since delivery. We are so excited about that weight gain! He is eating all breastmilk, and I am pumping every two hours at home. I even get up in the middle of the night! They also started lowering the temp in his little isolette, and he is maintaining his body temp. They think he will be moved to an open bassinet soon. It is all good news! Thank you all so much for your prayers. I know he is doing so well because of the many people who are pulling for him. We appreciate you all sooo much!

Update- April 6, 2008

I had my little boy by emergency C-section after a second episode of severe bleeding. I had been on hospital bedrest for 16 days at that point. The bleeding started at 7:35, and Michael Joseph was born at 8:00 on the button. It was a life changing experience, and I will likely come back to add details of the c-section experience.

My little Michael is in the NICU, and will continue to be for the next several weeks. I am not changing my profile to show that I gave birth, because I plan to track him still by the week of pregnancy he should be in. He was born at 30 weeks 5 days, and I will continue to think of him by corrected gestational age until closer to his due date.

Also, I love the mommies in my gestational group! They are very supportive, opinionated, and funny! I will continue to follow them through their pregnancies, and want to share my little preemie's progress with them. What a great website this is!!

LOL, thank you!! I was ready to take over last night, but I had to fight myself... I don't want to be the one who runs to Colton every night. I would go insane working and being up all night!!

I slept on the couch for 2 weeks cause our bed is kind of low to the ground and it sucked trying to get out of it. I was so happy to get off the couch and back to my bed. She said at my last visit that they checked my tubes and ovaries and they looked great and my c-section was done very well and I had no scar tissue. My Husband is now saying that he would like to try for a girl but I'm not even close to being ready yet. I feel like my body has been through hell and back this year and I'm not about to put it through anymore stress for a long while. I am so happy that you got it done and now those nasty little fibroids are GONE!!!!!!!! I wish you lived closer cause we'd be making plans to go out and have Fibroid Free Party!

I will definitely share the pics with you!!!!!

WOW you are brave!!!! I had my surgery on Wednesday and didn't get in the shower until Sunday. I didn't want to move and I was scared to get my incisions wet. You are super strong. Try and hang in there! It helped me to keep a pillow on my belly that I could kind of hold oh and one more thing DON'T WATCH ANYTHING FUNNY CAUSE IT SERIOUSLY HURTS WHEN YOU LAUGH-I found that out the hardway!!!!!!!!

Thanks for keeping me posted! I go back next Friday to have an Ultrasound done to check everything out and the Doc said she would give me a copy of the DVD and some new pics. I should be able to post some then or if they are too gross I'll e-mail them to you!

I hope you have a RELAXING weekend!!!! TAKE IT EASY!!!!!!
Much Love!
~Laura

Thanks for giving me some info on acid reflux. She pretty much has all the symptoms. She spits up almost her whole bottle and then she's hungry shotly after. When I feed her sometimes it seems like she is in pain. She usually fusses right before she spits up. So I usually know when it is coming. I have an apt for her on friday, so hopefully they will find out what is wrong with her. Is there a test they do to diagnose acid reflux? Thanks again, and congrats to you on your bundle of joy.

Thanks for your comment! I usually have the tv on at night, it helps me stay awake for mid night feedings, but last night i kept it off and also unplugged one of the night lights. I am trying to keep Alyssa awake during the day and make her awake time fun, so hopefully she'll get switched around. When she is wide awake at night, do you think it's best to let her lay in her crib, or get up and play with her? I feel bad making her lay there alone, but I also don't want to be the one encouraging her to stay up at night. Also, I think you're right about not staying in the house all day. I didn't leave the house at all monday or tuesday so today I ran some errands, and it really felt good to join society again!

Hi - thanks for your comment on my page. Look at your sweet little man! (I also have a Michael...) What a story, I'm so glad you both are doing ok now.

Good luck with your surgery.I'm sure everything will be ok! Seems like I'll have surgery too in a couple of weeks. I'll have a MRI tomorrow to check on the size of my fibroids. I know there is one the size of a softball. I'll keep you posted and I'll be thinking of you! Good luck again.

ladobruk - Tuesday, 15 July

HE SO CUTE SLEEPING LIKE A LITTLE ANGEL!

mandalou81 - Tuesday, 15 July
Hi!!! Eli is sound asleep AGAIN!!! I'm so happy! He's even going 4 hours between feeds now instead of 3! It's a miracle!! He's been so happy! He even smiled!!! And no - it wasn't just wind! A community nurse came to visit this morning and I mentioned that I thought he had begun smiling - She said it was possible at 4 weeks but that it was more likely to be wind... Then right on cue when I started talking to him he gave me a smile and she confirmed it was an actual smile and not wind!!!! I am sad though cause then I immediatly wanted to tell Wayne but I don't want to upset him with something that he's missed :0( We're hoping his visa will be processed soon... his papers gt sent to the wrong department AGAIN but this time the Australian High Commission has agreed to step in and try to help us get things sorted!! Fingers crossed he'll be with us soon. How old is Michael now??? He's so cute in his pictures - he looks like he's doing really well. How are you finding things??

breezee - Monday, 14 July
Thanks, I am going to go ahead and give it a try!!!

LOL...thank you. I gotta snap fast cause she gets cranky after a minute. We have to do them in segments!

mandalou81 - Monday, 14 July
It worked already!!! I had already given him a bath this morning so we didn't do that but after his feed we went to our room and I put on a lullaby cd I then just sat down and held him until he started to look sleepy. I then put him in his bassinette and he was awake so I just stayed in the room and made my bed and folded a few clothes... when I was finished I just said goodnight to him and walked out... that was over two hours ago!!! Thanks soooo much for the advice!
