Michael is HOME!!! He came home Wed. May 14. We are so happy. He is doing very well. I did not get one bit of sleep his first night home, but my hubs and I have worked out a system that will work for now so we can each get about 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep. The baby is very well behaved, and only cries when hungry or gassy.... for now! We are crossing our fingers that he continues to be so predictable for several more weeks at least.

May 12, 2008

Michael is doing very well! The nurse wants to pull his NG tube today to see how he eats by bottle with no back up. She also will feed him when he wants it instead of on a 3 hour schedule. She thinks he will do better that way! She said when he cries for food before his feeding time, he tires himself out crying and doesn't always finish the bottle. She also told me to bring our car seat in tonight so they can make sure he breathes well while sitting in it for a while. I am so excited, if all of this goes well, he'll be home soon!!

April 30, 2008

All is still going well! Michael is up to 4 lbs, 8 oz, and has been moved to the continuing care nursery, a lesser intensive care part of the NICU. We are waiting for him to be able to breast or bottle feed, which we can hopefully try next week. He does have a couple of episodes everyday where he drops his heart rate, but by the time a nurse can walk 5 steps over to him he has fixed it on his own. The docs say he will grow out of these too. I am still pumping, and get about 5- 6 oz a day. I started taking Reglan last week to increase my supply, and this is an increase from the 3-4 oz a day I was getting. I am not stressing about the breast feeding... just doing what I can!

April 15, 2008

Michael is on the upswing! he gained 50 grams since yesterday, so he is now 3 lbs 8 oz. He got as low as 3 lb 4 oz since delivery. We are so excited about that weight gain! He is eating all breastmilk, and I am pumping every two hours at home. I even get up in the middle of the night! They also started lowering the temp in his little isolette, and he is maintaining his body temp. They think he will be moved to an open bassinet soon. It is all good news! Thank you all so much for your prayers. I know he is doing so well because of the many people who are pulling for him. We appreciate you all sooo much!

Update- April 6, 2008

I had my little boy by emergency C-section after a second episode of severe bleeding. I had been on hospital bedrest for 16 days at that point. The bleeding started at 7:35, and Michael Joseph was born at 8:00 on the button. It was a life changing experience, and I will likely come back to add details of the c-section experience.

My little Michael is in the NICU, and will continue to be for the next several weeks. I am not changing my profile to show that I gave birth, because I plan to track him still by the week of pregnancy he should be in. He was born at 30 weeks 5 days, and I will continue to think of him by corrected gestational age until closer to his due date.

Also, I love the mommies in my gestational group! They are very supportive, opinionated, and funny! I will continue to follow them through their pregnancies, and want to share my little preemie's progress with them. What a great website this is!!

well what we have is Prevacid SoluTab (a tablet that you disolve w/ water in a syringe.) for older kids they can just take the tablet like normal and it disolves in their mouth. it seems to be working good though (knock on wood) she has been doing MUCH better, no more bloody murder screaming. she's back to being her perfect little angel self. she was feeling so good, i took her to where i used to work and had to show her off :-)

Thanks, for the info it's just so funny to see him doing things that he really shouldn't be doing for another couple weeks. The only bad thing about it is he's going to grow up too fast so I'm enjoying the baby, baby stage at this point in time..... CONGRATS

knockoutmom - Tuesday, 1 July
haha. ive lost i guess only 30lbs which is what my doctors scale said today but that isnt too bad. 20 more to go! plus id like to lose another 10 on top of that. if i only i could lose weight that easy again!

ejsontheway - Tuesday, 1 July
thanks for letting me know. i tried different varying the positions last night and it worked. he did it this morning, but it wasnt after a laying down position. i am going to keep watching it and see how he does, if not i will call the doctor. thanks again.

lizamafers - Tuesday, 1 July
Thank you for your advice! I just want other choices in case he doesn't react well with Enfamil A+. I see your son is getting big and out of the hospital, that's great news, he's beautiful!!! Take care and thanks again

HDugan26 - Tuesday, 1 July
I know! Definitely trying to keep him in his bed! And I would actually like to move him into his own room in a few weeks! But damn...I'm such a sucker for that little boy! Especially after the scare he gave me! I could never let a child sleep in my bed! I can't wait to go get my IUD in a few weeks so I can figure out what sex was like again!

christilynn - Tuesday, 1 July
thanks! I've tried everything! its been crazy-thanks sooo much for the advice tho!

HDugan26 - Tuesday, 1 July
I'm actually feeling great! Fully recovered I think! Hitting the dr. next week to get a status report. I have to go back to work on the 11th...UGH!!! I can't believe time has gone by so fast! Good news on Michael's reflux! Funny that now we have a new problem...A VERY SPOILED BABY!!! I guess since we were in the hospital for 3 days and let Dillon sleep with me, it seems now my precious little brat doesn't want to sleep in his bed! Only will fall asleep on my chest! And he's so damn precious I can't say no! Ugh...BAD MOMMY!!!

HI, I seen your post about the milk going through the nose and I cant find who or what the questin was about.. anyhoo. My son does it every morning. It is freaking me out because he gurgles and i swear I think he is going to choke. I thought maybe he was holding the milk in his mouth after he fell asleep nursing, but that just cant be it... It is very scary! so much so that I have been keeping him in my bed during the time he does it early morning. I have found too that he does it also after a night of doing the side lying breast feeding position. But i was curious as to what you went through, reflux? I havent called the doctor yet, as i truly think it may be my position feeding at night, which i am trying to stop but i am just soooo tired.. thanks!

meggz - Monday, 30 June

no cooing yet. im dying to hear her do that and see her smile though but i dont wanna make her grow up too quick! i heard the first smile makes all those sleepless nights worthwhile. riley went to the doc today and weighs 9lbs 12oz! two weeks ago she weighed 8lbs even. i cant believe how big!

christilynn - Monday, 30 June

chute - Monday, 30 June
i do use it everyday. i give it to him at 6 and then at 10. i managed to have 3 colic free nights. i love it.

HDugan26 - Monday, 30 June
Thanks sweetheart! It's never easy to have your newborn in the hospital...I know with Michael being a premie you know how hard that is...but when you have to struggle and scream to get anyone to hear your child's problems, and then realize if someone had just listened earlier, it could have been fixed before he had to go through more pain...ugh...it just broke my heart! I'm a pretty strong woman, but I really don't know at what point I was more angry or scared! Dillon and I made an agreement that we have had enough hospitals for one childhood! I had to wait 32 years for his birth to have any stitches and here he is 4 weeks later getting surgery! Thanks for the well wishes baby! How's Michael doing?

heatherz - Monday, 30 June
hi There...I have registered...now do tell...what is worth it and what is not? I try to do the reading up on products and candid customer ratings, but do you have a top 3 must have and top 3 don't bother list? Congrats, baby is PRECIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

knockoutmom - Sunday, 29 June
she does that! shes always been so aware ever since she was a week old. if i walk behind her she turns her head as far as she can to follow me. and of course my heart melts! haha. its the best thing in the world being a mom. i knew it was going to be great but i never knew it would be on this level! my incision is still just a bit sore. if riley or zach accidently touch it i feel sore, but it never hurts by itself. i got a huge supply of underwear from the hospital, the big ugly ones, and they dont go anywhere near my incision. its so nice not having my underwear hugging it. im afraid of what its gonna be like when i run out! i think i have like 20 pairs left. i got a ton!! hows yours feeling? you said you had the classical cut and not the bikini cut right?

believe24 - Sunday, 29 June
Thank you! I'll have to register for it today!

So I was reading your post about travel swings. And I was wondering, Which one did you buy? I was thinking it would be nice to put it away when its not being used.

deannalynn - Sunday, 29 June
congrats on your recent arrival! ;)
i was reading that you bought one of those fold up travel swings instead of a big one.. we bought one of those last year when i was pregnant with my first and used it alllll the time when she was first born. we also bought a regular sized one, which she used more as she got older. but that travel swing was awesome. we love it. :) i'm sure my baby boy will use it a lot when he's born.

JsMomAndOneMoreComing - Sunday, 29 June
Thank you so much :D

Cherryb0m - Sunday, 29 June
yes, that is what she has!! we finally went to the dr yesturday. friday she screamed all day long (13hrs) and finally just passed out around 8pm. i was in tears the whole day. it was so hard to see her like that and there was nothing my hubby and i could do. her dr put her on prevacid. i hope it works!!!! does your little one have it so bad he needs meds???

JsMomAndOneMoreComing - Sunday, 29 June
Yea, I had a csection with my first, scheduled for one this time too... Its just been so long I kinda forgot :D I am just planning to stay ahead of the pain, as far as taking pain pills. This pregnancy has been SUPER ROUGH. I am home from the hospital for the 3rd time now and am on an anti-nausea pump. Since then tho, things have been fabulous. I cant WAIT for october and am most likely going to get my tubes tied after this. I am happy your story has a happy ending. Best wishes for a HAPPY, HEALTHY lifetime with your new bundle :D

newgirl - Saturday, 28 June

JsMomAndOneMoreComing - Saturday, 28 June
