Michael is HOME!!! He came home Wed. May 14. We are so happy. He is doing very well. I did not get one bit of sleep his first night home, but my hubs and I have worked out a system that will work for now so we can each get about 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep. The baby is very well behaved, and only cries when hungry or gassy.... for now! We are crossing our fingers that he continues to be so predictable for several more weeks at least.

May 12, 2008

Michael is doing very well! The nurse wants to pull his NG tube today to see how he eats by bottle with no back up. She also will feed him when he wants it instead of on a 3 hour schedule. She thinks he will do better that way! She said when he cries for food before his feeding time, he tires himself out crying and doesn't always finish the bottle. She also told me to bring our car seat in tonight so they can make sure he breathes well while sitting in it for a while. I am so excited, if all of this goes well, he'll be home soon!!

April 30, 2008

All is still going well! Michael is up to 4 lbs, 8 oz, and has been moved to the continuing care nursery, a lesser intensive care part of the NICU. We are waiting for him to be able to breast or bottle feed, which we can hopefully try next week. He does have a couple of episodes everyday where he drops his heart rate, but by the time a nurse can walk 5 steps over to him he has fixed it on his own. The docs say he will grow out of these too. I am still pumping, and get about 5- 6 oz a day. I started taking Reglan last week to increase my supply, and this is an increase from the 3-4 oz a day I was getting. I am not stressing about the breast feeding... just doing what I can!

April 15, 2008

Michael is on the upswing! he gained 50 grams since yesterday, so he is now 3 lbs 8 oz. He got as low as 3 lb 4 oz since delivery. We are so excited about that weight gain! He is eating all breastmilk, and I am pumping every two hours at home. I even get up in the middle of the night! They also started lowering the temp in his little isolette, and he is maintaining his body temp. They think he will be moved to an open bassinet soon. It is all good news! Thank you all so much for your prayers. I know he is doing so well because of the many people who are pulling for him. We appreciate you all sooo much!

Update- April 6, 2008

I had my little boy by emergency C-section after a second episode of severe bleeding. I had been on hospital bedrest for 16 days at that point. The bleeding started at 7:35, and Michael Joseph was born at 8:00 on the button. It was a life changing experience, and I will likely come back to add details of the c-section experience.

My little Michael is in the NICU, and will continue to be for the next several weeks. I am not changing my profile to show that I gave birth, because I plan to track him still by the week of pregnancy he should be in. He was born at 30 weeks 5 days, and I will continue to think of him by corrected gestational age until closer to his due date.

Also, I love the mommies in my gestational group! They are very supportive, opinionated, and funny! I will continue to follow them through their pregnancies, and want to share my little preemie's progress with them. What a great website this is!!

I am SOOO happy! I love being a mom. If I knew how great this was going to be I would have tried in my early 20's!!

guess what? i finally went out yesterday! zach randomly asked if we wanted to go to target and it just happened to be right after we fed her and changed her so i was flipping out!! i got ready and actually put pants on instead of pjs, which didnt feel too good, and i put makeup on! it was extremely thrilling to me which is hilarious to say but so true. a worker there even awwed at her and asked us all about her. i made zach take pics even though he was embarrased. haha! it was the best 20 minutes in a long time and really did make me feel human again. i couldnt handle anymore than that right now though cause my incision felt like it was pinching and when i got home i started bleeding red blood pretty heavy again. so i may wait a little bit before i do that again. maybe a few days. your so lucky to go out for 4 hours!!

I'm seeing my doctor on monday so maybe he can prescribe something for me then... oatmeal?? I give it a go!! Someone else on here just reccommended a herbal supplement called fenugreek so I've got some of that to see how it goes!! At this stage I'll try anything!! Well almost anything - I got told a stout beer like guiness works - not up to drinking guiness yet but who knows how I'll feel in a few days!!! That would be hilarious actually considering my partner and I actually went to the guiness factory in Ireland whilst I was pregnant and I didn't get to sample any of it!!! Imagine if it worked to drink it now!!

Thanks for the reality check too!! It's exactly what I needed!! You're right - breast vs bottle - who cared - my baby is hungry and I am feeding him!!

Give Michael a big baby hug from me!!

I ended up having a c-section! I love being a mom!!
But it is hard to get on here! I am sore, and just want to lay in bed.

as soon as i hit 3 weeks i think im gonna venture out with riley. my doctor says to wait 2 months! im like yea right! im getting so depressed staying inside all this time and its only been almost 2 weeks. i hate it!!

rabekah - Wednesday, 18 June
Thanks for the advice. With my first daughter I bleed for like two weeks then no period for another four weeks. Every time is different I suppose. Glad to see Michael is doing so good.

Daisy04 - Wednesday, 18 June
Thanks or the kind comments..I keep waking up and hoping every day is a bit better. My Mom has been here for 8 weeks and has done nothing but complain about the way I bring up the baby...Im hoping when she goes on Saturday I will be a bit better. Im only 3 weeks post partum right now so hopefully like you say when the hormones calm down a bit I will feel better. Thank you xx

knockoutmom - Wednesday, 18 June
oh jeez that poor mom!!! ughh. i cant even think about that! my hormones are doing ok today. hah, for now! until i think about one of my triggers. i try not to but my triggers are all good things so its hard. i have my mom here with me during the day so its nice to get help with things and take my mind off stress. plus she loves spending time with her grandbaby! its gonna be weird and almost kinda boring when shes not here though. what am i gonna do during rileys naps? by the way, what are you doing with michael when hes awake? i know hes older than riley, but i feel like i should be doing more with her. i know she doesnt know too much now either. i hold her and put her in her bouncy chair or her bassinet and she just likes to look around. i wanna interact with her! its probaly a bit too early. i wish i could start a routine but shes on her own little cycle right now. i guess i have plenty of time to do that. whats your day like with michael i guess is what im trying to ask?

knockoutmom - Wednesday, 18 June
damn, i just read your post to me and i just took the strips off!! it looks really good so im hoping its ok. the strips were actually super easy to come off. my doctor told me they probaly wouldnt come off and id have to peel them off. i hope i did the right thing! i swear if i opened back up id flip out!!! hows your incision?

knockoutmom - Wednesday, 18 June
ahh hes huge! he gets cuter everytime i see him, if thats possible!

christelle - Wednesday, 18 June
Hi! Thanks for checking up on me. I'm still waiting but the doctor is adamant about inducing me on Monday if I haven't given birth yet (one week and one day overdue by then). I really want to go into labour on my own, but the good news I guess is that we'll have our baby by Tuesday next week I figure. Keep your fingers crossed for me that he comes on his own before that though! Thanks!

mandalou81 - Wednesday, 18 June
Hi there fellow Mummy!!! Elijah is here! He was born June 11th - His due date!! I can't believe he knew exactly when he was meant to come!!... well after 33 hours of labour... he sure wasn't keen to leave!! We're both well! I'm having breastfeeding issues - I'm day 7 now and milk has not come in. I'm so upset by it. I never thought I'd have troubles breastfeeding. Anyway how are you two going??

!vickylovesanth! - Tuesday, 17 June
how long did they keep michael in hospital ? xxxx

tls080 - Monday, 16 June
It was like an ounce to two ounces that I gave him. It was a couple days ago. His bowel movements went back to normal. He had a couple good bowel movements the same day I gave him the apple juice. I haven't given him anymore because he has been regular since. Also apple juice is somewhat acidic so it can cause them to get a diaper rash. If your baby gets regular and it isn't hard then you should be fine until he gets clogged up again. Good Luck
