Good luck dealing with your employer. Hopefully there is at least an HR contact who knows they have to accommodate you under the ADA, see http://www.ada.gov/q%26aeng02.htm which provides answers to frequently asked questions like: When does an employer have to make an accommodation? Answer: when the employee asks. I would read this section carefully b/c it explains what a disability is, how an employer must accommodate, and how an employer can claim they can't meet your demands (hardship).

i hope my info was helpful, let me know how it goes

Personally, being Canadian, and reading what everybody in the states has been saying, I really think you all get a heck of a bum deal! I mean, this is THE changing moment in your life, and the fact that you guys have to fight for every minute of your time off, or take it without being paid, really rubs me the wrong way. You have my complete sympathy. I just don't get how one of the most developed and "sophisticated" countries in the world can be so disrespectful to new moms....NOT FAIR! Hell, in my province, I get a YEAR off with up to 75% of my pay, AND one of the political parties here is trying to start something where they'll give you a hundred dollars a week if you DON'T send your child to daycare.... Again, my sympathies on the shameless way they don't help you guys out.....

I am not an expert, but the ADA, Americans with Disabilities Act, provides that an employer MUST make accomodations for an individual to perform her job. You can inform your employer that you are high risk, per your Dr., and they MUST accommodate you. Furthermore, as JessnKirk advised, FMLA provides that if you're employed where there are at least 50 employees and have been employed at least a year, you are ENTITLED to job security after taking 12 weeks (not 6, not 8, 12!!!) leave. I am an example of how this works since I am also high risk and may deliver as soon as Monday. My employer has provided a manner in which I can perform my job from home in order to accommodate my schedule. I will not begin my FMLA until the baby is born, and will perform my job until she is.

well u can fill out the FMLA form and do disability, where u would be safe, and still have ur job. then after the baby comes, threw the FMLA act again do the maternity and u can have 12 week after the baby. its all unpaid leave, but u can have time off, thats what i am doing, im at high risk, and my due date is july 29 also, i have been off work from apirl 24 till now, so far, and my job is there for when i come back ...

Thanks - I am also nervous about going into labor on my own and since my first was born at 36 weeks. Thankfully all was well with him - no complications at all.

galina - Friday, 30 May
Well it's finally over. It was not as bad as I made it out to be. Although I still freaked out and they had to drug me LOL. I have not had any pain at all, just a little discomfort and no bleeding, not even spotting. So far I'm doing great and going back to work on Monday. Thanks for your support!

SandraD - Monday, 26 May
I have thought about washing all the clothes and getting them ready and the only thing that is stopping me is the fact that the babys room will not be ready for another 4-6 weeks. That is going to be hard to have to wait that long but I am already planning to start my leave at work a week before my due date. That way I have time to get everything in order. Now when its time to pack my bag I will make sure that he has his coming home clothes ready then too. Just hope he doesnt want to come early...lol...but you are right we will be prepared.

Thank you sooooo much for your feedback, your comment is really helpful. I realize that I have to do it and I will just have to face my fears and get it over with. Best of luck to you! Keep me updated on your removal.

Thanks for the compliment, I really appreciate it. I know what you mean about sleeping on the side. It's actually worse for me since that's when the nasty heartburn at night occurs, ugh! I'm sleeping on my back, propped up at 45 degrees.

What's funny is that I never wanted a girl but had one in mind for if it was a girl lol...the boy is the toughie.

Thanks hun! I'm thinking of Jayce but I am scared that it won't sound "professional" when he gets older. I've always loved the name Mason too.

dannie - Tuesday, 29 April
I saw your post and a heartbeat of 160 is totally normal- My son's was that when I was pregnant.

aville - Tuesday, 22 April
It's funny you mention the constipation. I was experiencing really bad constipation towards the beginning of the pregnancy. Then all of a sudden, I had to go all the time. It turns out the baby was smooshing my intestines and was really low. Are you still taking your prenatal vitamins regularly? I know they contribute to the constipation.

aville - Friday, 18 April
I'm doing great! I'm so excited about everything... we are almost finished painting the baby's room. I went to the doctor today and found out that I gained 5 lbs in a week and a half! that makes a grand total of 24 lbs. I'm okay with it. I don't feel fat.. I just feel pregnant. I hope you are doing well. HAve a great weekend!
