My name is Irena. I am 44 and have 3 childen, 23, 18, and 5.5. I am going to celebrate 25 years anniversary on Feb. 19. I can't believe it is going to be a quarter of century soon! My last baby girl was born on April, 10, 2002, 3 days before my husband's birthday. The baby I am carrying right now will be born (I am afraid to think so far in the future, afraid to jinx it) is due July 6, a week before my 45th burthday. This pregnancy was a surprise for for both my husband and for me. Actually, it will be a surprise for my husband when I tell him, right now he is still in a happy bliss of not knowing. I try to spare his feeling as long as I can, because I am very, very sure he will not be happy and it is a very mild way to put it.

I think there is something spiritual in my conceiving this child. We have not been using birth control for over a year now, somehow I was sure I could not concieve any longer. My mother told me she had early menopause and since my periods decreased to 1.5 days, I thought I was immune too. But something happened - first, very very sad: my co-worker, a briliant, vibrant, always happy and charming girl 36 years old died suddenly while working out in her GYM. She had an artificial heart valve that was due to be replaced, but she was putting it off. She left so many things and projects unfinished (she was a clinical nurse specialist, very involved in many projects in my hospital). She also left 2 small children and a devastated husband. Her wake and funeral was on Oct. 5th; after which I came home and I told my husband that we have to have sex every day, while we are still young, healthy, and alive, because nobody knows what happend to us tomorrow. Well, we did not last more than 2-3 times of every day, but I missed my next period. When I discovered my positive pregnancy test, I suddenly heard her name like somebody said it in my mind. I am not very religious person, but in this case I felt something misterious. The door of this lady's office is still the way she left it, with all the paers for her to sign and a big paper rapping the door has all the wishes and thoughts that people felt and wanted her to hear after her death.

So, if this baby will be born, I decided to name it in her honor, and, even though I am worry every day and every second about this baby's health and life, I feel that if She and G-d wanted it to happen, they will lead us to a happy end.

Hi Irena - glad to hear your amnio went well - I haven't had any cramping either and my husband has been great about taking care of me (he took the doctors orders for me to rest very seriously! lol)
I hope I can put your mind to rest about little boys - I have 2 nephews that couldn't be more nice, considerate, well-behaved children (well, as any child can be right?). They are hilarious, outgoing, well-liked boys and my sister couldn't be more proud. I'll have happy thoughts for you!

Hi oldie44, Congrates your amenocentsis report came normal. I am very happy for you. I am having CVS next week, very worried though. Good luck with your rest of the pregnancy. Take care.

Curious how things went. I thought about you today.

dgwmommy - Wednesday, 30 Jan
Hope your amnio went good today. Got home from having ours done a few hours ago. The anticipation was definitely worse than the procedure itself (although don't want to do that again! lol)...and we found out we're having a girl. We are so excited!

happyheidi - Monday, 28 Jan
Yes...it's a girl! Although I was hoping for a boy...healthy is all that matters. We had a regular ultrasound. We are at 16w5d according to the ultrasound and I have not felt the baby move either. I can't wait. Everything will be fine for you. RELAX!!!!

Thanks so much for the advice. Its lovely to be able to chat to people going through the same thing as me. Its so scary..as its my first..and I feel I am so young...my parents are in South Africa too and can have little to do with me for religious reasons..as I am unmarried..all this..plus not knowing whether the baby is ok-is weighing on my mind. I had a few operations because of bad problems stemming from polycistic ovaries...i was told I'd never have children without treatment-imagine my surprise when it happened!..scary stuff. Thanks again for the lovely words.
STEPH X

Hey there...had my amnio today. I'm glad it's over. It seems like such a routine procedure. Personally, I wish I hadn't stressed about it so much. The amnio was no where near the baby. With the ultrasound. Don't fret...i just went through the motions today. It made it whole bunch easier! Let me know how everything goes.

Hi Irena - just wanted to send good thoughts for your amnio tomorrow!!

teresa08 - Monday, 28 Jan
Hi Irena, sorry it has taken me a couple of days to get back to you. About the amnio I waited for the final results. The wait wasn't quite as bad as I thought.
There have been a few people who had comments about having a baby at ages but we have made sure that people know that we are very excited and happy and knew what we were doing. Good luck and keep in touch.

Also, I think it could be that the baby is laying side ways, and that's just where I pick up the beat. Because I have put my hand on my side and the baby will move. Like I can feel the legs kick me when I have put my hands on my side to feel around.

Thanx for responding to my post. I counted the heart rate to be 155-160. I tried it two ways. I counted for one full min and then I counted for 15 sec.s and multiplied that by 4 and still got 155-160 ish. This is my 3rd and I had a heartbeat monitor with my other two kids. So I learned before about my heart rate verse the baby's rate. When I was 13 weeks it was a little higher. Now it's low, by my pelvic area or bikini line. Maybe that's where the baby likes to lay. I will also get the heartbeat on my right one day then get it on my left side.

So,now that it has been a little while, how is the hubby adjusting to the news?

clreese - Saturday, 26 Jan
you can google 3d ultra sounds and find the clinics nearest you. I am getting one in a few weeks. There are special clinics around that offer them. I am not sure what types of dr offices would them.

Hi, thatnx for your reply. I asked my mum and she said i had it when i was younger for about 5 weeks so id say that was strong enough dose. I feel less worried now, but will mention it anyway on my app on monday. hope you are well. Good luck with your preg.

HI, I am 45 years old and was surprised with a positive pregnancy test too! I already have a 27 year old son, 25 year old son, a step-daughter 22, and identical twin daughters who are 12. My husband and I were very surprised with this news needless to say! Due to the fact of my age and medical history, I have psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, high blood pressure, and type II diabetes, and since I bled the first 8 weeks of this pregnancy, we chose to have an amnio test to inform us of any problems that there might be. I had the test done on the 12th of December and found out all is well! My amniotic fluid had some old blood in it, which the Dr said was probably due to the early bleeding and that it could cause me to possibly have preterm labor, but other than that all seems to be going well. The test, was very tolerable. In my case I had chose to carry the baby no matter what, but I just wanted to be prepared so I could provide the best possible future for her. Now that we received this good news I think the rest of this pregnancy will be more relaxed and I can enjoy it! My Dr.s are really watching things closely and will deliver by c-section a couple of weeks before I am due. I like you am not a very religous person, but I too feel God has a plan for us! We lost a 3 month old grandson on Sept, 6th of this year, and according to those charts where you plug in your due date, http://healthlink.mcw.edu/article/923526833.html Sept 6th was date of conception of this pregnancy! I was speechless needless to say, but this is a part of our grandbaby that will carry on!
Looks like according to your due date your conception date is Sunday, October 14, 2007. My best wishes to you and your family!

Hi there. I read your post on the amnio and I wanted to tell you, I was very nervous also but I too had a specialist who did these all the tinne and I think that is important. It was really painless during and after and everthing turned out great for me. I had read before mine that it is important to have a specialist who does these all the time, makes a big difference. I think you will be nervous no matter what. Good luck and God bless.

Read your post about not showing yet..Im almost 17 weeks and Im not either...Sad story about your coworker. I had a similar experience when I got pregnant. My grandmother died a couple years ago and about the time I got pregnant(Docs told me I only had about 5% chance of conceiving naturally) I kept smelling my grandmother. I would ask my husband 'Do you smell that?' and he would always say no. Well, when I turned up pregnant, I immediately thought of her. :) I dont think Ill name the baby after her, her name was Mayme lol but I will definately use her middle name which is what she went by :)

Hello Irena ~
I have stumbled upon your story and am completely feeling for you. Perhaps hearing from yet another older Mom-again may encourage you! I am 43 and my husband is 55 - and we will both have a b-day before baby arrives. His children are 30 & 28! He was single for over 20 years and then met me one weird (ordained!) day when I brought him his mail! That was 2005 - now here we are! Just a few short weeks ago we were talking about retirement plans!! NOW there are a whole new set of questions and demands and requirements and... ...
We are both very happy and believe that God is in control of this thing and that it is very good, but we are both ALSO adjusting!! I have cried several times - certainly not because I don't want the baby, but because I wanted to do OTHER things. I have raised 3 boys, whom I cannot imagine my life without, but was looking so forward to travel and more acting and just freedom...

I hurt for you and yet I understand...

Will be thinking of you often and praying things will heal.
Sincerely,
~SueAnn

Hi Again. I know your husband will come around, they always do somehow. It is a big thing to have a baby when we get older. My husband (thank god) acts much younger than he is. I am fortunate for that. He loves to have fun and love life. He keeps me on my toes. Sometimes I wonder if we are being fair to Olivia for being older, but shoot my parents when they adopted me r my Dad was 39 and my Mom 31. I just want to see her get married, graduate college. My husband is going to be much older, so I hope he hangs in there. Yes, I have heard of craigslist. I just know a lot of people around here and the neighborhood I live in and around my area and very nice. My mom taught me about the bargains in garage sales. At first, I did not think I'd find anything good or it would be crap. But it is not! I know it is a crap shoot, but I've been very lucky so far. I sure hope things go smoother for you and hubby. It will all work out in the end. Take care of you!

jewlo - Thursday, 17 Jan
There are several reason why I am high risk. Last pregnancy I had extreme preeclampisa, toxima, I was on alot of meds for my back and also got setriod injections, the bleeding and a couple other things. Just a mess I say lol. We'll see though what happens after today's ultrasound.

jennya4 - Thursday, 17 Jan
Hi There. I am sorry you are going through this with your husband. I guess the question that I bring up is he was there when baby was made. What makes him think that you could not get pregnant if you were not using protection? It can happen and obviously it did. I would think a husband of that long would be understanding and just love you. I know it is starting over. My husband is 60 and I am 38. When I told him, he was in shock, but nonetheless, he was happy and now very, very excited. I am not trying to trump my story, just that my husband is 60 and starting over. He knew I could get pregnant and we just decided it was meant to happen. I sure hope he comes around. I know it must be tough on you honey. Hang in there. Maybe he will come around sooner than you think. I wish you the best! Hugs

dgwmommy - Wednesday, 16 Jan
Hi Irena - thank you for the well wishes - good thoughts and big hugs for you!

your story about your friend touched my heart! I lost my dad on Sept. 11th this past year and we found out we were pregnant not that long after that so I honestly believe my father is sending all his good wishes for his grandchild. We plan on naming this child after him (boy or girl)

Please let me know how your amnio goes on the 29th!

madameb - Wednesday, 16 Jan
Hang in there, you'll see he will come around! Men can be total cavemen at times! Whats he worried about? You will be doing all the work! I am 39 and expecting twins in July. We have 4 kids and are happy to have more!
You'll see, in time he will be happy too!
