My profile
pregnant with baby girl
20 weeks US normal; 24 weeks also normal;
31 weeks US diagnosed with VM: LV 18mm RV 19mm (yes I freaked out... very sad news) = severe
The doctor suspected aqueduct stenosis. No other brain problems; all brain parts there, so this is considered isolated VM.
US two weeks later: LV 16mm RV 17mm (yeah... getting better) = moderate
US two weeks later: LV 15mm RV15mm (yeah.... better still) = mild - according to my docs
Next US: Sept. 2nd
Sept. 2nd US... vents down to 14mm and 13mm
Sept. 16th US... vents down to 12mm!!!
remaining stable...
I personally did lots of research and started megadosing DHA specifically in liquid form. I do not like capsles. They do not retain the freshness a refrigerated oil does; and I doubt the effectivenss of what is in a pill form such as what they put in prenatals. I think an extra supplement is best.
I can't say if this helped or not, but I started taking 2 tbsp of Twinlab's Norwegian cod liver oil and additional folic acid. My baby girls vents went down. I wish someone would do some research.
INTERESTING NOTE:
I have "fluid on my brain" that has been there since birth and was never detected. I found this out after having an MRI after I was in a car accident in my mid twenties. My mother never received an US (they didn't do them back then) and my head, development and everything else was normal and healthy. I always did well in school and was advanced for my age. As an adult, I've been very successful.
I never thought twice about this "water on my brain" until my daughter was given this diagnoses of VM. I didn't know what that was or what it meant.
My message to all mom's is to stay positive; eat healthy; take folic acid and extra DHA supplements (good for baby's brain). I particularly like the fish oil in bottles. Take papaya enzyme if the oil gives you heartburn. Get rest and don't stress. I honestly believe stress to be the worst enemy to our overall health.
peace and love and light to all.... stay strong; no matter what happens your child is a miracle and a gift.
