Well hubby and I talked about having more children, but just were not sure when or if we would, then surprise I'm pregnant! Could not have been worse timing of course. I was planning on being a surrogate for my best friend and her husband whom cannot have children because of her severe diabetes, and during the doctors visits, they tell me I am already pregnant. My friend is still understanding, and patiently waiting on me to birth this one, and then six months later, go for IVF for their baby. We'll have to wait and see, I am not a spring chicken as I have found out with this pregnancy, and it is taking a toll on my body at my age. When I had our son, I was 19 years old, and my body could take the pregnancy better, plus I was a homemaker at the time which helped. Now I work full time plus, with a stressfull job, and I bring in the main income along with our medical/dental benefits, so I have to work now. So I am stressed about maternity leave, with my income dropping down (California disability doesn't pay crap), and I will have to pay for our benefits completely while on leave.

pregnancy calendar

April 5th

Had another 3D/4D ultrasound, and it is a boy after all. I had two ultrasounds (17 weeks & 20 weeks) that were told 100% it was a girl, which were wrong, because it was actually a boy. The tech stated that the scrotum usually doesn't drop until after 22 weeks, and is often confused as the "three lines" as a girl. So I have lots of girls stuff to return to lots of stores. It sucks for all the returns, but I am glad to finally know what is growing inside of me, and can actually start to plan ahead again. The not knowing in limbo, was really taking the joy out of the pregnancy. My SIL had already begun sewing a pink blanket, so I told her to bleach it white!

April 14th

I just got put on bedrest for the next 2 weeks for high blood pressure (149/94). I have never had it before, so it was brought on by the pregnancy. It really blows! Besides my feet, and legs swelling, my hands sometimes do also. The meds they have me trying makes me feel loopy and tired all the time, oh and one of the side effects is more swelling-great. I had to do a 24 hr urine test- that was fun peeing everytime in a cup for all of Sunday. Pretty much stuck to the house for the entire day, and then having to chug a big orange jug of pee to work yesterday, and then to the lab. I am so glad I work alone on Mondays, so no one had to see my pee in the fridge. Oh the joys of pregnancy! So far though no protein in my urine, but I go back on Friday to see my dr about the 24 hr results, so we'll see. Hopefully I can go back to work soon. With the meds at least my bp is now lower to 119/86.

April 18th

Well I'm off until the 29th just to make sure that my blood pressure is under control with the new meds. I failed my 1 hour glucose test, so I have to go back and do the 3 hr test. Yeah! So my doctor wants me to go ahead and watch my sugar twice a day, and follow a diabetic diet until then. Not fun, but whatever it takes to have a healthy baby!

April 30th

Still off work from dr's order for labor contractions, high blood pressure, and now for sure gestational diabetes. I didn't pass my 3hr test, but kind of figured that I wouldn't with all these other problems going on. If I feel good Monday I the dr said I can go back to work,so we'll see. Good news is my best friend is having a baby shower for me on May 17th. We figured with all my problems it is probably better to move it up one month, because I may be in the hospital or on strict bedrest. Plus June is a busy month for most families with traveling after school is out, and graduation.

May 5th

Went to the hospital early this morning after having contractions 4 minutes apart for over an hour with cramping, lots of low pressure and lets just say I had loose bowels and lots of braxton hicks contractions all weekend. I knew I didn't feel right/good, but already being on moderate bedrest, I stayed in bed most of the weekend. At the hospital they monitored me, which the contractions then starting coming 2-3 minutes regularly, and gave me meds to stop the contractions even though my cervix was still closed, and gave me a steroid shot for the baby's lungs to help mature. I have to get another steroid shot tomorrow at the dr's office, and get re-checked, and go over my future meds. The steroid shot hurts, it real thick liquid like syrup so they have to inject is real slowly in your shoulder through a big needle. They also did an enzyme test to see if I will have the baby in the next 14 days, and it came back negative-it's 99% correct, so for the 1% they are not sure! The sent me home on meds to stop the uterine contractions from coming back which I have to take every 4 hours, and bedrest. Man I feel like I got hit by a train, I will write more tomorrow after my dr's visit.

wedward - Wednesday, 7 May
oh, I also felt so achey all over afer the Brethene injections at the hospital. I felt like I had the flu. Ughhh!!

wedward - Wednesday, 7 May
Saw your bedrest forum post. Sounds like we are experiencing the same exact thing! I also had preterm labor and went to hospital and have been put on bedrest with Brethene. It's been almost a month now and I am going stir crazy. My shower is also on the 17th. It is very frustrating because anytime I am not horizontal for more than a few minutes the contractions start, but the meds do work thank god!!

WOW! I'M LIKE SOOOO SPEECHLESS! ALL I CAN THINK ABOUT IS DAMN, I THOUGHT I WAS GONNA GET MY GIRL AFTER ALL. BUT I GUESS THE MAN UP ABOVE HAD OTHER PLANS FOR ME....I HAD A FEELING THAT IT WAS GONNA TURN OUT THIS WAY. BUT ITS ALL GOOD, I'LL BE OK! WELL I'LL GET BACK TO U LATER...I'M LIKE TYPELESS RIGHT NOW! DAMN NOW I GOTTA GO AND RE-DO MY PAGE!

mommyrock - Wednesday, 23 April
Its a girl. I told my doctor about your experience and so she spent a lot of time down there looking at everything. There was definately a "taco" as my sil calls it and no turtle head. Thank you for posting your experience so I was able to see for sure.

LookitsErin - Wednesday, 23 April
The 3 hour test is standard. I was very frustrated by it too. I went through it with my first child also. They are probably just marking you down as border line and want to make sure you keep your levels good. I have looked into the 3d ultrasounds, but I would have to travel atleast 100 miles to get to a private place like that. Part of me likes the uncertainty. It is making it exciting.

jagas702 - Wednesday, 23 April
oh ok...so did it go in circles? It went in circles for me and all those other ladies that i asked to do the same all went in circles and they are expecting girls...so i should be ok...thnx for commenting me back...

HI I have a question about all of the mix up with your u/s and the sex of your baby. I am so convinced I am having a girl everything is different than from my pregnancy with my son and I have had several dreams before about a baby girl and then when I had my u/s, the tech tells me its a boy because she can see the scrotum. No penis. Just scrotum several times! Never a penis. So I did some research and I found that before 22 weeks the "scrotum" sometimes is just a swollen labia. So I'm wondering if the techs and docs you spoke to told you anything like that. Let me know if you have any insight. Also this was all done on a 2d u/s I am going to make an appointment for a 3d u/s to see if I can get a better look before I buy anything!!

mommyrock - Wednesday, 23 April
Oh no! I have an ultrasound tomorrow. They are 90% it is a little girl. I wonder now if I should have waited another week.

Adriennella - Wednesday, 23 April
Hmmmm...since reading your post, I'm wondering if I should've gotten all of that pink stuff! What if my he's a she, too? Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy.

Hi, I'm from week 19. I was was curious to see the photos. I'm glad I went to your page though coz I read about you taking the glucose test. I'm a plus size but haven't had any problems with sugar before the pregnancy. Around my 14 or 15th week, I started feeling numbness or a pricking sensation on my hands but not on my legs. My hands and legs also started to swell as early as then. My doctor wants me to have a couple of cardio tests and the 4-hr glucose test. If it comes out positive, she says I might inject insulin to prevent my baby from being diabetic. I am curious to know what the diabetic diet. Please leave me a message on my page. I'd highly appreciate it. Thanks so much. I'll try to look at the photos now though I would have no idea what to look for. We're keeping our baby's gender a secret until birth. Hubby wants a surprise so we'll be buying things that are white, green, yellow or orange... lol

ilyrpz143ilyenz - Tuesday, 22 April

I just have to say.... we have identical stories! This is my second child. I have a daughter who is 19 months old. I just got put on bed rest also for high blood pressure. I had toxemia with my first. I also failed my glucos test, and I am basically refusing to take the 3-4 hour test. I had diabetes with my first pregnancy, so I don't understadn why i can not just follow the diet. I hate drink that stuff. Also... I had my ultra sound at 17 w 1 d. They said girl, but wouldn't put any money on it. I am nervous because this pregnancy is so different from my first that I almost positive it is a boy. Unfortunatley I only get one ultrasound. I am nervous now! After reading your story and seeing how much our cases are similar.... I think it's a boy for me!

megcantwaitforherfirst - Tuesday, 22 April
i hope my little girl stays a girl ill be very frustrated since they told me 100 % girl all her clothes are washed and military insurance only gives me 1 US

jagas702 - Tuesday, 22 April
oh hey..i forgot to mention another thing, well have u ever tried that hair strand test, where u lay down and grab a piece of your hair and one of your rings, put your hair thru it over your tummy and make it dangle like a pendant and if it swings sideways your suppose to be having a BOY and if it swings in circles it suppse to be aGIRL...try it and see wat happens and get back to me and let me know wat u came up with...i'm jus curious...and i also want to see how accurate this is for you....thnx

jagas702 - Tuesday, 22 April
oh my god..reading your story is kinda scaring me...i was told by my dr. @ 18/5 weeks that i was having a baby girl. and reading your story is totally freakin me out big time. I already have 3 boys and I most definelty know how an ultrasound of a baby boy would look. and while my dr. was doing that ultrasound on me we both did not see boy parts. i have my level II ultrasound tomm. i'm so nervous, that they'll say something else...but really deep down inside i know that this baby is a girl. Do me a favor go onto my page and check out that ultrasound pic and tell me wat u see...would you say its more girl parts or more like 50/50 chance of it being boy or girl..check it out and let me know ASAP..thanks

MelisaK - Tuesday, 22 April
Ok, now you have me freaking out! I was told a girl twice!!! I have another u/s on May 5....hopefully she is still a girl!

tracmac - Tuesday, 22 April
Queenbee, I had my 20wk scan last week but didnt ask what we are having. However I have guessed anyway what my baby is by watching my scan dvd, and its a boy. I have confirmed my dvd to a least 30 pics of boy ultrasounds and I have now confirmed my boys bits to your boys bits also, so I dont think you have to worry this time, but what a shock for you after being told its a girl!
