Monday, 17 November Hey i seen your question on gestational diabetes. I have been dealing w/it since week 24 of my pregnancy I'm now 33 weeks pregnant. I'm able to eat a lot of things that are yummy just really have to watch my sweets and my portions. I think bread is one of my major killers. I can actually still have fruit loops in the mornings which is awesome. Yes like someone else mentioned I would stay away from the juices my dietican told me NO JUICE. I have found some diet juices that have splenda and they are yummy! Lorien -
Sunday, 16 November I totally hear you I went to burger king one day because I had just got done at the Dr. and wanted something fast and it made my sugars go way up to. I have a hard time with anything white. My Dr. told me nothing over 130 2 hours after a meal. I check mine 2 hours after I finish eating. And nothing over 90 when fasting (first morning) Try getting things like cheese sticks and whole grain crackers, Apples and peanut or almond butter, Cottage cheese with some fruit, veggies with ranch or hummus, hard boiled eggs, all of these are good easy snacks. Try to not have anything sweet with breakfast if you are having problems with your after breakfast sugar. I know when I was in the hospital they wouldn't let you order juice with your breakfast but they would for lunch/dinner (but then they bring you white french toast, lol). Try avoiding carbs during the times you are most likely to have a high reading. Keep a journal and you will be able to keep track of when you have your highest readings and what gives them to you. Like with me I can have fruit and even drink juice but if I eat white bread/buns, pizza or fries it's over lol. Eat something like every 2-3 hours if you can. Larger meals, higher sugars. You can also take things like, tuna, chicken, turkey or egg salad. If you have a trader joes or a health food store they will have good protein snacks as well that are pre-made. You can get a good quality protein powder (nothing with any type of sweeteners, and should only contain a couple ingredients avoid long ingredient lists, whey or rice is best, avoid soy) from a health store and make smoothies if you can tolerate fruit. I do like 1-2 cups milk or rice milk, 1 frozen banana, about 4 frozen strawberries and a couple of Tbl spoons powder (read the container) and blend. I'm sorry this is so long and I hope it helps! I agree with the glucose test though I feel like I'm going to die after I take them! Laura Ward -
