June 21st 2007

Hello all. I am 25 and live in the UK. Myself and my Husband had been trying for a baby for a couple of years and now it has happened i find it hard to believe it, i have taken 8 pregnancy tests and my husband has now banned me from doing anymore!!! My first scan is not untill the 12th July and i am just counting down the days untill it is here and i can see that everything is ok.

July 12th 2007

I am so happy now, had my scan and everything was perfect. I had only seen the midwife once and the dr once before, where they only took a medical history. I was starting to worry that i had imagined it all and that it wasnt real!! but now ive got my little scan pic. They said from the size of the baby, i am due the 9th January, which is only 3 days later than when it is worked out from my LMP.

19th January 2008

I woke up on Saturday morning at 3 30am with what felt like very bad menstrual cramps that were every 7 mins apart and lasting about 50 seconds each. I rang the delivery suite at about 4 am, and they said as long as i was happy to stay at home for the time being and to ring if they got worse. By 6 am they were every 2-3 mins and lasting about 1 min 30 seconds, we rang the delivery suite again and were told to make our way in.

We got to the hospital at about 7 am. They gave me 2 Co-Dydramol to help take the edge off as the pains were quite bad by this time. They checked me over and i was only 1cm dilated. They transferred me to the labur ward, where i had a hot bath that really helped. The pains were getting steadily worse, and by 11 am, they were every 30 seconds with no build up at all anymore. I was checked again and found to be 7cm dilated, so i was moved back down to the delivery suite. I started using Gas and Air, which was working quite nicely along with the use of the birthing ball. Unfortunalty, after an hour, it made me throw up all over my poor husband and a big part of the floor. For the next hour i was reluctant to use it again because of this, so at about 2 pm, they gave me a pain killing injection - meptid , not as strong as pethidine, but it didnt cross the placenta so would not affect baby as much, but it helped take the edge off and i stopped using the gas and air as i was making me feel fuzzy, and i didnt like it, i really did not want to throw up again!!!. By 3pm i was feeling the urge to push, and my midwife at this point was telling me to push with every contraction i felt. She also had to break my waters. Unfortunatly, my contractions slowed down and were coming every 20 mins and lasting only 20 seconds or so.....By 5pm, i still had the very strong urge to push with every contraction, and the midwife kept checking baby over and saying he was definatly moving down and was ready, so i had to be given an iv drip to help speed up my contractions and make them last longer....after another 2 hours of pushing, a total of 4, and a 15 hour labour, Baby Lucas Gabriel was born at 18:53pm and weighing 8Lbs1. When the baby's head crowned, the midwife let me feel his head, as she had been saying for a fair few minutes, as she could see the head moving down, that he had a full head of hair. It took another 35-40 mins for me to deliver the placenta, the Dr gave me to 19:30 to deliver it on my own or i would have to be taken into theatre, which i really didnt want, as, my sister had had a retained placenta with 2 of hers, and after given birth with no epidural, to have to have one to deliver the placenta was not something i was looking forward to. Luckily, at 19:29, i delivered the placenta.....just in time.
I also had 2 2nd degree tears so had to have stiches put in also.

That procedure to have done as an adult is VERY expenisive. I don't know if they told you that but I know b/c my husband isn't circumsisized and he has had problems with it every now any then with small infections and if you aren't shown how to push the skin back the skin can get attached to the penis. My husbands is and sometimes during sex it can get pushed back really fast by accident and he says it hurts.

Thanks Sam!
I think we are doing good then!
I have to change his diaper after each feeding! And he looks happy!
I was just worried because my mother in law thinks I should be supplementing with formula... And I didn't know how to tell he is getting enough. The page is very good and gave me peace of mind! =)
How are you doing??

kayla-love - Wednesday, 5 Mar
Hi, just wanted to say my little one is the same. Sometimes she eats every one hour or 2-3 hours. She is also cluster feeding on the nights so will sleep 4-5 hours. How old is your baby now ? mine is nearly 4 weeks. Kayla x

Happy Mother's Day!! Hope you have a lovely day. xx

My baby is 10 weeks old and is still doing all the things your 5 week old is doing. She takes 10-15 minute naps if I don't hold her. I am constantly holding her to get her to sleep longer. She screams when I feed her and then latches back on then screams then latches back on?!?!?! Sometimes it's because she needs to burp and sometimes I have no idea what's wrong. I have learned that the whiney crying means she's very tired and can't sleep so I rock her but that is all I've figured out so far. Sometimes she eats for 3 minutes and others for 30. I don't get it. Just wanted to let you know someone else is going through the same thing too. Best of luck :)

ifeta - Friday, 22 Feb
hey, my baby does exactly the same thing;he is 6 weeks old also he likes to suckle to sleep! but he seems to be doing a lot of spit ups.the doctor said if he is gaining weight then no worries. i have given up trying to get answers as to why he spits up minutes after eating . he also has wind anyways i just thot to let you know that i am experiencing the same thing maybe it is a stage.how old is ur baby? let me know how u get on.

Angiepangie - Thursday, 21 Feb
Your baby might be experiencing reflux, which is where the lower esophageal sphincter doesn't close completely, and the contents of his stomach are backwashing into his throat, or even all the way into his mouth sometimes (spitting up). The difference between the occasional 'spit up' and reflux is how it effects the baby. Chronic 'backwash ' of his stomach contents causes irritation to his throat, and pain when he is swallowing. My son had reflux, and your sons behaviour sounds just like how my little guy was. I didn't want to medicate him so I opted to place him slightly upright in all his seats, and his crib (a thin pillow or a folded towel under his mattress at the top should do the trick). This helped him tremendously, and I saw a difference in his behaviour within a couple of days. Reflux is often misdiagnosed, so you may want to mention it if you intend on going to your doctor for help. Best of luck!

Thanks for your comment. I wish I could get my little girl to sleep when we do. Every night at 11:00 she starts her fussing. I think I will try what you do and see if that works.
